Fantastic game! I can't tell you how long I've waited for a good DB game to come out. Not since the days of PS2 have I enjoyed a DBZ game this much. The graphics are spot on and decent for a next gen console. The fighting is fun and the combo system is awesome. I simply love the character create aswell. If you're sitting on the fence about this game I encourage you to pick it up.

Honestly one of the best DBZ games I've ever played and I've been playing since BEFORE Budokai 1. I love the amount of customization there is. Literally hundreds of moves and combinations. Glad this can wash away the bad taste of Battle of Z

Dimps has done it again and we finally have been delivered an amazing DBZ game. The one we've been waiting for. The gameplay is amazing and actually requires skill. It's not just a button masher or a game of chance. You're actually in control and if you're a DBZ fan, this is exactly what you've been waiting for. The story? Something new and exciting. I won't say any more than that due to not wanting to spoil anything, but it's new. Not to mention, it isn't something you're going to beat in a single sitting. As stated previous, I've put eight or nine hours into the game so far... I'm barely into the Freiza Saga. Perhaps with there being so much to do I'm a little distracted, but rushing the story honestly isn't possible. It requires actual 'training' in a sense and I love that about it.

Everything about this game is just... wow. The custom characters, the skills/clothing, the combos, the story, the side quest... Just all of it. If you've been waiting for a good DBZ since the PS2 era... this is it. I highly recommend giving this game a chance if you're on edge due to the DBZ games we've been getting for the last couple of years. In just eight hours, this one has taken the top of my list as the best DBZ to date.

Side note, online runs great and smoothly! I was honestly expecting a fairly bad online experience... I was proven wrong though. It runs great and playing with friends and even strangers regularly adds for tons of fun on its own. Haven't experienced so much a single 'skip'.

Anyways, I hope this was helpful for anyone who may of been on the fence.

Everything is effectively perfect, from the deep, satisfying combat system, the detailed character creation suite, solid voice acting and it oozes character throughout. Strangely enough, the only negative I can really give it is the graphics - obviously it's cel-shaded and it should be, but it looks a bit rough round the edges at times and can glitch out a bit on rare occasions, but it still gets the job done.

As for the combat and the controls may initially seem a bit confusing but with 3 or 4 we are already fighting to dominate, it is gratifying the fight 1 on 1, in fighting involving more characters confusion installed a little, but nothing that is not in accustom with time as was my case, and it's nice the feeling of space and "open world" during combat, and combat in improbable places like the corridors of spacecraft Freeza.
The game is magnificent, the system type rpg, character of evolção this very well implemented, and if not evolve our character also can not advance the story at the same time we save and advance to the main and secondary missions history we also unlocking new content from capsules, clothing, accessories, special moves and more.

Is it perfect? Of course not, what game is? However, they made a new game series from scratch and made some much needed changes to the DB formula. Visually the game is the best it's ever looked. As a big DBZ fan I can say that the games haven't always looked the best, but this one looks the most like the series. The animations are awesome as well. Normally the games have had a creepy puppet mouth thing going with every word being mouthed with a "Ma ma ma." motion. They actually animated the vowels out this time which is welcome.

The story, while pretty much the same, has been spiced up as well. Now you get to have your story be told as the new recruit to the Time Patrol who Trunk s brings in to right changes in the DBZ timeline. You meet new characters and villains who's stories you're curious to find out more about (especially since they don't go too far into them). The combat is fun and hectic at times. It takes some getting used to, especially if your muscle memory wants you to pull off some Budakai Tenkaichi moves. The game would benefit from a practice option which, unfortunately, isn't there. You have to learn as you go in this one. You will get plenty of practice though. With the main story missions, Parallel Missions, multiple Mentor missions, and online play you will get better at the make-your-own combo system in no time.

Speaking of Online...it sucks. The servers are in some serious need of TLC. I was able to get online for about 2-3 hours this past weekend and then was booted and never able to get back on. It even gave me trouble when I wanted to play offline. I had to turn off my PS4 internet connection to continue playing offline. Something some may find to be an issue is the roster. Key characters and scenes in the story are missing. (Minor spoiler ahead) Towa happens to be Demon King Daburas sister but he isn't even in the game. They have the Majin Buu saga but no Majin Vegeta to be found...you know...the only other time Goku and Vegeta fight. The main cause for the release of Majin Buu and how Vegeta dies. Kinda important that fight. So yes, some may find those characters absence to be an issue. I haven't really been effected by it outside of missing cool fights in the story because I only play my created character. Which is awesome!

They did a pretty good job with making a decent character customization for this game (much better than Ultimate Tenkaichi). With a little imagination you can make a wide range of characters. Also the races given have different stats that make you think how you want your character to play. One thing I don't like is the fact that your clothes give both stat buffs and defects to your character. You will be forced to either have a cool looking character that may not have the stats you want or an all powerful character that looks like an idiot....or you just wear the Goku gi like so many online. All in all though, I would say this is definitely a step forward in the DBZ game saga. After the last three games it was looking rough. Is this the best most complete DBZ games to ever exist. Probably not, but it is one of the most fun. This is a definite buy for any DBZ fan!

No longer do you have to run around the house yelling out moves and nearly **** yourself trying to turn super saiyan. Now with the new and improved character creation, you can fight alongside and at times against your favorite Z/GT characters. One of the only flaws would be that sometimes fighting sequences take too long before saving checkpoints which results in you having to re-fight through the same 5, 10 and sometimes longer fight sequences if you fail. Another thing is that the multiplayer aspect of the game feels a bit hollow and could really use some TLC. These are flaws that are merely a scratch on the surface of Namek though, and will not take too much away from what is really a great game. Incredible. The best DBZ fighting game I've ever played. Better than Tenkaichi 3 or Budokai 3.

If you're looking for a casual fighting game that doesn't take itself too seriously, and want to see alternate storylines of DBZ, this game is for you.

A great dragon ball game! The character customization is great, the story and gameplay are great, and its an all around good game. Best one to come out in YEARS. I highly suggest that every Dragon Ball fan reading buys XenoVerse, XV for short. Don't concern yourself about the "yellow" score, because this game is fantastic in every aspect.

It includes: -The Best Story Mode since BT3 -Amazing Customization and Co-Op -Parallel Quests, Just as entertaining as Story Mode -Great Combat, Though needs more combos -Many of the original voice actors

Raging Blast was okay, Ultimate Tenkaichi was a huge disappointment, and Battle of Z is a contender for worst DBZ game of all time. I have played XenoVerse for about 4 hours, and I truly believe it's a phenomenal game, with great graphics, game modes, and combat.

To put this in comparison with the other Dragon Ball Z games, I'd say XenoVerse is definitely top 3. It rivals Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the top spot.

Dragon Ball XenoVerse is up there with my favourite games of all time, such as Skyrim, Budokai 3, Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and GTA V just to name a few.

If you are not a Dragon Ball fan, I highly suggest that you get this game.
If you are a Dragon Ball fan, how will you live without it?

-The combat system is simple and deep at the same time.
-The story is not completely different, its more like a what if scenario which is perfect!
-Each character have their own unique fighting style.
-You can do tons more interactive in the hub than "Destiny" could ever wish.

Being a Dragon Ball fan, I always wanted that special Dragon Ball game that made me feel like I am a part of its beautiful universe. Thankfully Dragon Ball XenoVerse succeeds in doing so.

Being a Dragon Ball fan, I always wanted that special Dragon Ball game that made me feel like I am a part of its beautiful universe. Thankfully Dragon Ball XenoVerse succeeds in doing so.

The game starts off with creating your character and you can choose between 5 different races, the Majin, Saiyans, Earthlings, Namekian and the Freeza clan, each with their own strengths and weakness. I chose the Saiyans who are low in health but have high attack powers. Working carefully on your created characters appearance is important because it does affect your performance in battle. For example, if you increase the height, then your attack power will increase but your speed movement will be slower. I found this attention to detail in Dragon Ball Xenoverse interesting as it makes you want to create other characters as well.

Once done, you will have to choose the fighting style that you find most suitable.

The story will begin after you complete your character. You are chosen by Shenron to join the time patrol, a group of warriors led by Trunks to defend history. Trunks will introduce you to TokiToki city which is where you will spend most of your time in. Your mission is to find out who has been distorting the history of the Dragon Ball universe and changing its events. So you will go back in time through different parts of the Dragon Ball events and return history to its original course.

I found the overall story to be pretty cool as it is a change from previous Dragon Ball games which is good to see. Watching Raditz dodge Piccolos deadly beam instead of the original scene where Goku sacrifices himself was fun to watch.

Mastering Dragon Ball Xenoverse’s fighting mechanics will take some time but the tutorials does a good job in giving you all the necessary information you will need during battle. The more fights I participated in the better I got. The fighting mechanics are very good and executing special combos and powers is fun. The controls are straight forward with the normal attacks, heavy attacks, flying and locking on to your opponent.

When you hold R2, it will bring a small menu to the right that gives you a list of special moves to quickly perform and when you hold both L2 and R2, the ultimate attack list will appear. The battles themselves are deep and you will need to use different strategies depending on which character you choose.

The most important things to keep an eye out for are the two bars on the left of the screen; the top bar is your Ki bar which is used for Ultimate attacks and the bottom bar is the bar that governs how many teleports you can do and shows you how long you can block an ultimate attack.

Exploring TokiToki is fun; however, the city is small and I felt that more details could have been added to make the city livelier. Knowing what accessories, clothing or items to buy is key. For example if you leave your character shirtless, you will take more damage and if you buy the correct clothing you will incur less damage.

I Enjoyed the RPG elements and the progression system. You can talk to all the characters in TokiToki and even have the chance to recruit some to join your team. There will also be many decisions to take such as Raditz asking you to join him to attack Goku and choosing your mentor who will teach you valuable skills.

The progression system is done well and makes time invested into your character worth it. The more fights you participate it whether it is during the story line or side quests, offline or online the more experience points you gain to level up and spend on the characters attributes like health, defense and attacks. Parallel quests are like side quests that you can take part into level up. Playing if offline or online is a blast especially the 3 VS 3. Having a buddy with you and playing online is very fun.

Using the scouter during parallel quests will help you in finding hidden items and also to see the strength of your opponent.

The graphics are very good; characters are just like the Anime and small details such as the blast feels brighter than before. Exploring the world and flying around never felt better; however, I expected more environmental destruction during fights.

The story took me around 13 hours to complete and there is tons of replay value in the online multiplayer and upgrading your character. Dragon Ball XenoVerse is a smart challenging game and in my opinion one of the best Dragon Ball games to date. It has the perfect combination of RPG and fighting. With over the top characters and exciting battles, Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a game that will entertain you.

They run when on the ground, and swim while underwater. XenoVerse has dialogue while fights go on, and fighters show facial expressions when they strike an opponent or take damage. The players have some freedom to explore the planet Earth as it exists in the Dragon Ball universe along with a handful of other locations, including a mysterious new city, now revealed as Toki-Toki City, which is the point of origin for the game's new character. WARNING: RANT AHEAD

Few games have ever caused me this much rage and frustration, and at the same time, almost no other game in my library comes close to the amount of satisfaction and sheer fun I have when playing this game. The story, character creation, and gameplay (most aspects of these at least), are the positives of this game. However, online, while extremely fun and competetive when playing with good players, is a complete hell hole other times. Hit detection is laughably awful, and certain things called Z-souls combined with the right character build can lead to a completely broken and nigh-unbeatable opponent, which is only made worse when you realize they have very little actual skill. To be blunt, online play can range from fantastic to horrible, and is always being brought down by spammers (I'm not talking about Super Saiyan spammers either, I'm talking male earthling with 100 in strike supers, and the Z-soul that lets him start out with full ki and spam evil rise strike, a completely broken move that you need near-superhuman reflexes to evade, every time I try to get close; and get this: he kills me in 3-4 hits).

The story however, is where the game shines. While many aspects of both the story and character creation were taken from Dragon Ball Online, is very original and interesting. The character creator is just varied enough to feel like you've made your very own unique character every time you first bring them into the game. But even then, I still feel as if more options for hairstyles and clothing would be very welcome. I'd rather not go into plot details, because if you're a fan of the anime or manga, you'll want to experience all of it for yourself.

Now, on to the game's balance issues. There is a total of 8 different possible races/genders available (male saiyan, female saiyan, male earthling, female earthling, male majin, female majin, namekian, and frieza race) each with their own pros and cons. However, the differences are just too prominent. Saiyans are complete glass cannons, making them very inneffective for tank builds, majins make good tanks, but they lack offensive power and have slow stamina recovery, earthlings have good stats across the board, leaving them to be almost the only race you see being used by competetive players, and namekians make alright tanks, but with less health and offensive power than majins, they are likely the least used race, despite having very fast stamina recovery (and keep in mind stamina is extremely important in this game; if you have stamina, you can stay alive, if you're out of stamina, you're thoroughly screwed), and frieza race characters neither have good offense nor defense, but supposedly make up for it with... movement speed? (Yeah, doesn't make much sense, but hey, they have this paralyzing ki blast thing that is almost useless against skilled players, so...) These differences are very large, too. A male saiyan, even if he has 100 in ki blast supers with clothes and a z-soul that boosts ki blasts, will still do mediocre damage compared to a female earthling with even a slightly high ki blast super stat. However, despite how big and limiting these differences can be, they can be overcome as long as the player has skill. Another terrible thing though, is that the Super Saiyan forms were handled horribly. The most powerful forms only have a 5% attack power boost. They also drain your ki very fast, and you have almost no way of recovering it unless you have a ki charging move equipped, which only leaves you open to attack. It also gives you unlimited use of your ki while it is draining, which only leads to one thing: spammers. These guys used to be problems, but any competent player can easily dispose of them. They never seem to learn either, as I still encounter plenty of spammers in online play.

Now that I'm through ranting about this games shortcomings, here's my verdict. I love this game. Any fan of the franchise should definitely give the game a try. However, those that do buy the game should be aware of the mind-bogglingly awful balancing issues and other various things that plague the game's online, which, even with all of the problems, can be a blast to play. Despite all of the game's negatives, I still give the game a strong 8/10, and I honestly can't wait for the sequel.

The battles are quick and make you feel as if your custom character is a powerful member of the Dragon Ball world and you see them evolve with better skills, more attribute points, and armor seen in the shows and movies. Good:

-Let's be honest, you're looking at this because of the character creator, and it does deliver. It's not the greatest in the world, but there are enough options to make your character feel "special". I felt attached to my little guy, who was voiced by the guys from DBZ abridged (voice 8).

-The story is new and unique and feels like an actual DBZ story, which is good and bad. Still, it kept me invested and I couldn't help but smile when DBZ characters acknowledge your existence as you get ready to fight.

-As far as I know (I haven't played every DBZ game) for the first time EVERY move is different. No more repaints of the kamehameha. From the Galick Gun to the double sunday, each melee and blast attack has different features. You now have a reason to pick and choose your moves besides their names.

Meh (things that could be good or bad depending on who you are)

    - Combat gets throne under the bus quite a bit for this game. Here's the problem. Later missions can get really hard, and it's not a question of being under-leveled. Having a 7 majins fighting you with no allies is straight up difficult because of how the game works, regardless of level. As much as I tried to not fall back on it, I ended up "going SS and throwing unlimited supers at them". But that was only in a pinch, when the missions demanded it. Honestly, I loved throwing myself in the middle of the fray. The combat is fun, and if you can keep your character equal to the enemies, you should be having too much fun to want to just sit back and throw supers.

-The RPG elements are cool, but not as prevalent as you'd think. The bonuses armor give you are virtually unnoticeable. (you can check your stat chart when viewing your presets, and you'll need good eyesight to see any change even when you have a ton of 5x multipliers.). That being said, that means you can wear whatever you want because it really doesn't matter. If cool looking armor has crap stats, oh well, it doesn't make a difference. So that's kinda nice, kinda dumb depending on how you look at it.

That being said, allocating stat points in conjunction with the skills you unlock does matter, and I loved to watch my character go from a in-your-face close range expert to a blast throwing beast (ironically much like the characters in the show throughout the series).

    Bad
    - Just lacks some polish. Spelling errors and small things like having to run back to the PQ hut after every quest can break immersion. You kinda wish everything was a little deeper, but it's a new IP so hey, everything can't be Last of Us.

-DLC. enough said. I hate that crap.

Honestly the game is more of a 8.5-8.8, but yeah. Can't pick that so we'll go with the 9. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay

The ability to create your own character and build them in a RPG fashion is the main draw of this game, and it repeatedly rewards you as the game progresses. You can choose from Saiyan, Earthling, Namekian, Majin, or Frieza Clan. Xenoverse provides general moves and equipment but also offers specific sets of moves and equipment for each race. This makes playing each race unique.

Campaign: The first 5 hours of the game are perfectly balanced as your character levels up at the same rate as the story progresses. Xenoverse follows the storyline with Vegeta, Ginyu Force, Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, and more. Opponents are challenging and its very fun as you gain the most XP doing the campaign missions. When you get to the 5-20 hour mark, Frieza and Cell come into play and you will be required to do side missions to level up your character. Side missions offer material rewards, armor, and new moves. It's fun getting through the side missions as they offer more story context and allow you to visually see your created character in more action. Once at the 20 hour mark, the game becomes a grindfest. You will have to repeatedly do side missions in order to level up your character enough to progress the story.

Combat: Combat is pretty simple. Mash two buttons and hope for the best, block, repeat. Aquire enough ki and then start doing combinations of button mashing and super ki blasts. If you hit the right sequence of buttons, you can pull off a sweet attack that involves powerful punches that launch the opponent a far distance that follow up with teleport strikes that we are familiar with in the shows. It's not very clear how to do them, I typically just press one button 5 or 6 times then switch it to the other strike button.

Side Missions: More time will be spent doing side missions than anything else. They offer a base set of currency and based on your performance, it can increase. They also offer moves and new equipment, however the biggest problem is there aren't any conditions known to the player to acquire moves or equipment. Before a side mission starts, there are a list of things the player can obtain by completing the mission. I recall doing a mission 6 times trying to get Frieza's Death Slash. I figured I had to grind to progress anyways, and I really wanted that move. I still don't know what I did to obtain it, but I felt more happy my frustration ended rather than happy I did something to earn the move. This gets ever more frustrating when there are moves you feel are necessary to obtain in order to progress in the story. For example Super Saiyan 2 power up is acquired via side mission. It's very powerful and I tried over and over again to get it. I ended up having to purchase it for 50,000 zen. This is long after I had grinded to progress the story and it was available in the shop.

    Art

The art style is true to the Dragon Ball Z universe and looks absolutely fantastic. I played on a PS4 and the cell shaded characters make repetitive gameplay worthwhile. There is so much attention to detail. From the particle trails when traveling at supersonic speeds, super blasts, vanishing during combat, unique combat animations, and unique combo styles per each race, the art keeps your attention as you appreciate the amount of work that was done. Character creation allows for color selection for every single piece of clothing equipped which allows for endless amounts of customization.

Cinematics: The story comes with its own animated show integrated into the game. There is a mix of in engine cut scenes and full Dragon Ball Z episode type of animations to progress the story. As a Dragon Ball Z fan, its refreshing to see new episodes in a world I exist in. They are just long enough for you to feel satisfied and get back into battle, which is great because sometimes when games spend a lot of time on the story, the cinematics are too long and get annoying. The in engine cut scenes don't contain any dramatics with avatar animations, but it's really not needed. They are dialogue sessions and do its purpose.

Environment: The whole experience is encompassing. The world itself looks identical to the TV show. Couple that with the authentic audio, crazy particles, unique animations for super moves, and the small cut scenes for perfectly timed combos, immersion sets in quickly. There are also dragon balls that exist in the world, although I'm not exactly sure how to obtain them all. It seems to be random or when I do a great feat in side quests.

Firstly, the sound or lack thereof. I was constantly checking my headset to see if it was flat or disconnected because in game if you’re not fighting it’s dead silent, no background music, nothing. The sound to picture is so disjointed that when a character speaks their lips are out of sync or they just don’t move at all. I found this would happen frequently throughout the game especially in the cut scenes. Secondly, online play is finicky at best. DBX gives players the option of selecting Single or Multi Lobby play at the home screen but all too often the servers are unavailable for reasons ranging from too many players on the server to the Multi Lobby hamster needing to take a break from his server-powering hamster wheel. Do be aware that if playing Parallel Quests with friends, if you have not personally finished the Quest only the party leader will be given a ranking and ultimately have it chalked up as complete.

Overall XenoVerse is one of the most enjoyable games I have played on this generation of consoles (in saiyin that I’m a jungle iz massive DBZ fanboy so this review is a work of pure, biased junk). Whether you are playing solo or online with your friends it is downright fun and very addictive. I normally hate them but the included cut scenes are a journey back into the show we all know and love, and I think that’s tops. Dimps has done a great job with this title and with ongoing updates to improve gameplay, sound and potentially adding further skills and equipment I can see myself playing DBX until they release the inevitable sequel.

    Pros:

-The Paralell quest are even greater than the history.
-The combat system is the great aspect of this game. Is much simpler than other DB games (which makes the game playable not only to DB fans), and at the same time is the more complex and customizable of all. I really enjoy taking my time planning ahead for every battle.
-Creating your own character and getting him into the DB World is a great sensation, i must say that all the things you have to do, take your character one step further into this world.
-The PvP/Coop (which is all the game, except for the story) is great, and i expected no less, since this game is made for that.iando movimientos: Cuadrado golpes blandos y Triangulo golpes fuertes, Circulo **** comunes. Esos son los ataques basicos de cualquier PJ, bastante simple y muy accesible para todos ya sean nuevos o viejos en la saga DB.

    Cons:
-The camera in closed maps (freeza ship for example) is annoying.
-Not much graphic improvement (but i really don't expected too much).
-Allie IA is kinda stupid sometimes (that's why i play only coop with other people).

    On a last note:

The game is pretty nice and complete (and will be further complete with DLCs), you have plenty of staff to do, alone or in coop. Having the ability to create your own custom character and put it in the DB world with such immersive mechanics (mentors, looking for DB balls, unlock different cloths, pretty much everything) is what makes this game so aweseome, The new villans and twist in the history is welcomed.

So if you are a DB Fan, or if you are new to this world, i would not recommend another DB game beside this one.

For some reason when I specialised as a melee fighter, the only ultimate it gave me was a ki blast that was only effective close up. The stupid thing is that it gives the same ultimate whether or not you spec into long range, short range, or close range. It's much easier, and stupidly easy to just use the non-custom DBZ characters to do the side missions since their stats will be infinitely higher than anything you can get your character to by the time you unlock them.

If you are a fan of the anime/manga, this is a great game for you. The story's **** but at least it offers more than the same, stupid, watered down saga epic we've been seeing for the past three generations of DBZ games.

Dimps have offered the community a diverse narrative for the first time in dragon ball gaming history. Critics claiming that the narrative has nothing different or special to offer are clearly ignorant. In addition, the chance to create your own character amongst various dragon ball races now offers a degree of limitless creative potential when it comes to our imagination.

The fighting system has blended the best of the budokai franchise, and tossed some Tenkaichi influence in there as well. The result is a fantastic fast paced, BALLANCED hybrid of two dragon ball gaming giants put into one game. It is morally unjustified to rate this game any lower than 8/10. Considering Budokai 3 recied similar scores we can all tell the critics have suffered some sort of brain damage because this is, the best dragon ball game I have ever played. Bandai Namco has released the best DBZ game that has been made since the original Budokai games on the PS2. However, with the always online functionality and completely soul crushing RNG that comes with getting the essential skills and items you need to really do well in the game, things are not so peachy here. Still, it is alot of fun and there's alot to be said about that.
This game is very similar to what a DBZ MMO would look like, if it's battle system was more in line with what Budokai Tenkaichi did back in the day. However, the implementation of the battle system doesn't work well for me. While you can easily block a Super Kamehameha from Goku, a simple ki blast leaves you reeling with no way to escape the hit. Also the leveling system in the game can be unbalanced at times, making it a bit of a grind going forward.
The biggest part of the game was supposed to be the story that was made for veteran DBZ fans. Instead the leveling side battles, known as parallel battles, really steal the show. It's where you get most of the skills and equips in the game and some of the scenerios are great. However, RNG reigns king here and getting that Big Bang Attack from one mission could take 1 try or 100 tries. It's very frustrating especially since, to train with some of the characters, you need to get an item or two from these RNG-fests and it is completely awful.
The always online stuff will cause problems too. While there is an offline mode, you can't select it without having the game try to auto-log you in after the start screen. If there was a a way to start offline mode from the start it would be alot better as I've gotten to the point where the game won't even go to offline mode for me. It doesn't help that the servers have been down since launch and I haven't even been able to see what the world would look like with other people in it.
However, this is still a fun game and I would recommend it for any veteran DBZ fan that has been disappointed with the kinds of games being released in this series these past 5-7 years. With a ton of DLC already planned there's a good future here too. However, they need to get from this RNG stuff for a more set way to get the skills and items you'll need to make it and lose the always online portion. There is going to be a sequel based on how the story ended so I hope to see these changes, along with a decently revamped battle system, in the next installment. Till then, this is a serviceable game and and even better DBZ game.

I have played nearly every DB game in existence including the horrible UB22, and I will tell you that Xenoverse is the 1st time since Legends I felt like I was playing the beloved anime. The traditional "Tenkichi" gameplay has been revamped, and modernized to allow for ease of movement and simplicity in control. The game is more about good teamwork (yes teamwork in a DBZ game) than it is just solely overpowering your opponents.

This holds true especially later on when fights get increasingly more difficult and require a serious combination of reflexes and teamwork. Tokitoki City while very basic is a nice hub for all of the games activities. Making your own DBZ character is actually surprisingly more indepth than I thought. Having my bald and bearded Saiyan power up to SS and have his facial hair turn yellow was a hoot :D

I will spare the details and tell you that if you really want a good DBZ experience then this is the game for you. To be frank this is game is not perfect as a video game, but this is a game for fans of Dragonball, simple as that.

Character creation and online capabilities are great. The customization of both your appearance and your skill set is vast and allows for everyone to create a totally unique character of their liking. The story is completely original, but also involves key moments in the Dragon Ball series. Putting yourself into the series' most iconic moments is absolutely entertaining, and a childhood dream of mine 10 year old me is going crazy.

The mechanics stay true to the well-received Tenkaichi series, while borrowing from predecessors that have come in the last generation iterations of the game. Combos and supers can be chained to do satisfying and deadly attacks.

The cons I have for the game would probably be that the game doesn't allow for local multiplayer on multiple stages, and rather just the tournament stage (I could be wrong and just haven't unlocked the capability yet). The stages also could use a few more destructible landmarks, which would add to the immersion.

Other than that, as a longtime DBZ fan, I am absolutely thrilled with this game. If you're a fan of the Dragon Ball series, and you've skipped out on the gaming adaptations of DBZ since the Tenkaichi series on PS2 like I did, I highly recommend jumping back in with this game. It's the freshest and most improved adaptation of the series, and I cannot recommend it more, for fans and fighting game enthusiasts alike.

    Rock the dragon.

It's difficult at times and when that happens you need to train and a lot of bad reviews are because people just want to blow through the campaign but you really have to grind. The fights are always fun though with countless super moves and ultimates to play around with. i would recomend to anyone whos had any interest in Dragonball z ever. Expand

I was extremely hesitant to buy this game seeing as the last several dbz games were just the same thing over and over. A gamestop employee raved on and on about it so I took a shot and bought it. After about an hour or 2 to get the controls down and learn how everything worked I was hooked. i love the character creator, the countless interchangeable specials, the amazing potential for cool combos and the new(ish) story. Its super addicting to find new moves and buy new armor and fun to relive the sagas but fight new villains at the same time. This is by far the greatest dbz game to have ever came out. If youre a fan of Dbz and like collecting items and armor and moves, i think youll enjoy the hell out of this game Expand

Brilliant game, best thing since the Tenkaichi series, if you love dragon ball or are just interested in a fun new PS4 game then this is the choice for you, it feels fresh enough from the original series to have an exciting feel to it whilst also being unique in its own mannerisms.

I'd say for “fans of the genre” but this game simply isn't good for anyone. [May 2015, p75]

While it’s not really much of a looker, and non-fans won’t find much here besides a series of fights, there’s a ton in here for fans of the series to dig into and enjoy.

A lot of fussy distraction from the one-note combat. [Apr 2015, p.94]
