The combat is fun more of a mix between the first two dragon age games and can be strategic and exciting in some of the more difficult battles with main enemies or dragons. There is an endless amount of things to do and explore, characters to interact with items to build castles and strongholds to manage. Expand

Got 100+ hrs out of this wonderful game. It's too bad that once you kill a dragon on normal, we're not able to kill it again on hard or nightmare mode later on, using the same character. Would be really great to test newly acquired gear on those dragons at higher difficulties..repeatedly! Game is worth every time & penny spent.

I will start off by saying that I hated Skyrim, and didn't even really like DA II. Stopped playing both of those games within a couple of hours. I know they are well-liked by many, but the game play was difficult for me. I'm not a hardcore gamer. I did, however, love the Mass Effect games, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning- and DA:I is kind of reminds me of both.

    What I love:
    Graphics...pretty graphics, backgrounds, totally gorgeous.
Quests are engaging for the most part. I am staying up way too late because of this game.

    What I don't love:

No. Freaking. Stash. Wtf. Its not so much that I'm trying to be a hoarder like I am on Diablo 3, but inventory management needs to be done pretty much after every quest, and its not very simple. You have to switch in and out of all your companions to check for upgrades on the stuff they can use or else you end up selling things that were useful. It takes me about 10 minutes to do, and totally takes me out of the game. You don't just look through weapons and gear. You also have schematics, upgrades, runes, recipes. Its not very difficult to figure out, but if I'm tired, that's the point that I turn off the game until the next day.
Glitches are here and there, which isn't a huge deal to me. What annoys me though is that whenever your Inquisitor is speaking to either an npc, or advsior, or companion, you barely hear their side of the convesation. Every single person I speak to is almost whispering, and I if I forget to bring down the volume, I blast out sound if I get into a fight right after. I don't have any sound issues with my PS4 or television with any other game.
Other than those two main things on the negative side, I can't tear myself away from this game. I'm romancing Solas, which is playing hard to get, but I'm working on my elf milkshake to bring him to the yard. Maybe Iron Bull would have been easier, but I'll try that next play-through. Right now I've done about 20 hours.
I'm currently playing an Elf Rogue Archer. As long as I have two mages and a warrior in my team at all times, I'm good.
Tip: most crafted weapons are going to beat out what you usually find in the game, at least until you get to Skyhold. I'll have to see how the rest goes.

Better than Dragon Age 2 in many ways, and overall it doesn't really beat Origins. For an MMO this probably worked because you could chatBetter than Dragon Age 2 in many ways, and overall it doesn't really beat Origins. The game is unfocused since the majority of your game time will be spent on quests and side-activities that are frankly too inspired by WoW's design philosophy of purposefully making objectives more dragged-out than they need to be to make the game fun. For an MMO this probably worked because you could chat or do things together. In a single-player RPG though it drags it down with the only redeeming factors really being the party banter and the fact that mostly every side-activity is made relevant to the main objective of the game: build up the forces of your inquisition to be ready for whatever stands in your way, and end the threat that dooms the world once and for all.

Sounds pretty negative so far, but that's because I wanted to get that stuff out of the way as soon as possible. Because the only other real drawback there is left is that while the main missions are great, they are just a tad too few and mostly all of them are too short for how self-contained they are, acting as subplots that are resolved before we really get time to sink in the idea. But trust me when I say, unless you're on PC you're likely to think back at this game when it's over thinking "I want more of that!" than feeing that it was a completely missed opportunity.

The core gameplay is well-made and easily made the 78 hours it took me to beat it the first time worthwhile. There's fun in finding the right party-build that works in combination, trying out different ideas: 2 tanks, an archer and a mage, or a group of Warrior Tank and 3 OP mages throwing fireballs, and freezing the enemies to shatter them, or play as a mage and go Knight Enchanter, soloing 1 of the 10 Dragons to be found.

No matter what Dragon Age you've played before you're gonna be surprised when you realize how massive the world of Inquisition is in sheer size. Arguably this is probably also one of the game's main weaknesses since too few story-missions take place within these environments and are instead placed in self-contained levels but in its own right that probably works better. The problem is just that the game-design is in identity crisis. You have 1 game that plays like a completely open-ended RPG like Skyrim and with WoW quests that's fun in its own right, but then you have the second game, the main campagin and talking to companions at your base that feels completely cinematic, story-driven and revolves around very railroaded level-designs, which is completely fun and satisfying, but one can't help but be disappointed that these two concepts don't gel at all, especially when the best part - the "2nd" game - is a much more interesting game than the first one and the first one takes up the vast majority of your game time.

As for the Bioware-fans I'm pleased to tell you without spoiling stuff that while the main story is hit-or-miss and occasionally so epic that I thought I was gonna faint from all the shivers, the companions, their subtle moments, the party banter, the romances, personal quests, all of these are good enough that you'll walk away wishing there'd been even more of it becuase it IS a great cast, and it has so much potential to be fleshed out even more in DLC. I probably never felt as attached to the cast as I was here, except for maybe Mass Effect 3, but bear in mind that this cast has only been in this one game as opposed to 3 full games like in the ME trilogy.

Chances are that within a year when all DLC is out this game will be one of my favorite PS4 games ever.

    8/10

    Pros:
    + Great cast of companions
+ The parts of the main story that work are bone-chilling
+ Cassandra is an excellent character
+ Sense of discovery is a milestone for Bioware
    + Music is very epic
+ Graphics and especially the new face-models look spectacular

    Cons:
    - Overall game-design is too unfocused
    - too much cheap time-sink
    - The latter half of the main story has many issues
    - Too many bugs (occasionally game-breaking) at launch
    - It borders on superficiality. Companions and main story, while good simply don't have enough screen-time. It feels like stuff is missing.

This game is a lot of fun, and easily my favorite of the three Dragon Age games, but after having logged over 100 hours in the game over 2 playthroughs so far...there are a few issues that have worn on me over the course of my time, and now really annoy me.

First...the story. I'm probably somewhere around 75% through the story at this point, so no clue how it ends, but as it stands

First...the story. I'm probably somewhere around 75% through the story at this point, so no clue how it ends, but as it stands now...the game starts off slow but quickly gets very interesting and has a really powerful ending to the first act. I've not run many more story missions since then, as I've been busy exploring all the zones they offer. In that time, here are my main criticisms with the game:

    1. Itemization. In short...it sucks in this game. There are so many zones that require roughly the same level range, that by the time you venture to all of them, you end up getting unique items that are worse than what you already use. You end up getting a lot of the same crap items over and over throughout the course of your exploration. Cassandra is still using a unique armor from Hinterlands, and I've cleared all but 3 zones and have killed 4 dragons. Schematic drops are also stingy, and Tier 3 start dropping far too late in the game imo.

    2. Climbing Hills. Good lord, whoever programmed the vertical exploration of this game is really sadistic. Feels so amateurish when you jump on a seemingly manageable slope and your character grabs at air like you're scaling a mountain, as you slide down to the bottom. Hills with very similar slopes can either deny you, allow you, or straight up throw an invisible wall at you. It's pretty sloppy and inconsistent.

    3. Obstacles, Obstacles everywhere! What is the point of using a mount? They put so many rocks and tree roots all over the ground, all of which your mount is completely incapable of traversing smoothly, that you'll end up wearing out your "giddyup" button while using your mount. Quite annoying. I've also been "caught" by objects on the ground countless times while running around during battle and such.

    4. Aggressive Wildlife vs Passive Wildlife. Walking along, minding my own business, when suddenly a Fennec or Nug runs past me...and surprise surprise...there goes a wolf or something chasing it. It alerts my party, putting me in combat, but the wolf runs off into to the distance and out of my range quickly. Sometimes I can sneak in a grapple, but not always. This happens so much that the wildlife ends up being a natural snare for the group, constantly throwing me into combat mode and forcing me to disengage all the time. Bleh.

    5. Game is overly bloated with busywork. Mid game feels like a grind to remove items from your map, vs doing anything meaningful. I miss the early game at the moment.

All in all, this game has consumed my wife and I's life for the last week and a half, and is pretty awesome overall...but over the course of 100+ hours with the game, the above complaints really start to wear thin on you...or me at least. Then again, I've logged that 100+ hours for a reason...it's an amazing game thus far, and these annoyances are no where near enough to push me away from continuing onward. Definitely recommend the game.

Inquisition mixes the best elements from Origins & 2 brilliantly. Nightmare modes gives a good challenge for those who enjoy one. The story is good but certainly the writing can be better but it is a good story that any fan of RPG games can enjoy. My only other problem is that the music while travelling is not always playing and while that's ok I think the gaps are too long creating a silence where I would prefer music to be playing.

Overall I'd give it a solid 9.2 but since you can only give it whole numbers its a 9. I always give the score it deserves not a 10 or 0 to "balance" out the scores because people here think their score should be the correct one.

Great game. Yes, it is not an old school RPG and the principles of the game have nothing to do with the first Dragon Age or even Baldur's Gate, however it's still a great game. The graphics are great, the story is entertaining and the RPG system is interesting, but simple. I recommend this game to both old school gamers and newcomers

Getting this out of the way, of course, if you don't like fantasy RPGs, you won't like this, but if that grabs you, you can't go wrong with DAI! This is my Game of the Year so far.

    Pros:
*I'm new to Dragon Age, but I feel like i mostly grasp what's going on, and never felt left behind for having not played Origins or DA2.
*Environments and characters are rendered beautifully. Sure, there's an awkward body movement every once in a while, but overall, I'm seriously impressed, especially by the water on the Storm Coast!
*I love the dialogue options, and the enormous freedom of choice in terms of what your inquisitor is going to be and do.
*The blend of combat, and again, the choice of how you approach it is really refreshing. You can increase or decrease the difficulty whenever, the overhead, tactical view is useful sometimes, and just running into battle is more action'y, and is good other times.
*I think the keyword for this game is choice. There are so many choices well beyond the superficial, "What does he/she look like? What class? What race?" The amazing questions to answer are: "What does he/she believe? Why is he/she doing this? Will he/she fall in love, and with whom? Does he/she believe there's some higher purpose? How does he/she think a society should be run?" It's all fascinating, and so far, I can't get enough.
*Game stability. This shouldn't be a thing, but lately, games have launched broken, and such is not the case with DAI. Sure, there are little glitches every once in a while, but in my experience, this game is polished, and, dare I say, actually finished before it releases?
*Crafting feels awesome, and material grinding is not terribly repetitive! There are so many things to pick up all the time, everywhere. I rarely feel downtrodden as if I'll never find what I need.

    Cons:
*Tactical cam doesn't work very well in some situations, like cramped rooms or caverns.
*Inventory and character management in menus isn't perfect. I wish I could equip items after buying them while in the same merchant screen. I wish some things were clearer. I wish they would've called the "valuables" tab the "junk" tab, because that's what it is, and it would've spared me some head-scratching.

It's well worth $60, and is a nice change from $60 Destiny. Try playing this for 30 hours, then go back to Destiny and tell me you don't feel ripped off.

I have put in about 70 hours into this game now and I can say that, even with the flaws, this game will easily be up for Game of the Year all across the board.
The pros definitely outweigh the cons here and it starts with content. While the first area you go to is about the worst starting area I've seen in a long time for an RPG, the amount of content available to you all throughout the game is wonderful. It's only surpassed by long standing MMO's and even then it would give them a run for their money. With a decent combat system pretty much copy and pasted from DA:2, the trek throughout this game is wonderful. I loved seeing all the environments and how I interacted with them. The characters work well too. They aren't particularly memorable but they are better than alot of other games today. The game seems to flow very well, keeping you interacting with the environment and your party. There are some returning characters from both DA 1 and 2, along with some fresh new faces. They do a good job at answering alot of questions that might have been left after the first two games.
There are some definite problems with this game though and the first one is kinda obvious when dealing with a game this size: the bugs. There are so many bugs in this game, particularly audio bugs, that follow you everywhere you go. There's really no way around some of them and, while not all of them are a problem, when the game seizes up and crashed multiple times over the coarse of the playthrough, we've got a problem. The second problem is the story. The story takes a very weird turn about 75% of the way through for pretty much no reason and doesn't give a payoff. Obviously they are setting up for a fourth game but I'm not impressed with the way they had to do it here, especially since the story here is EASILY the weakest of the games so far. It's almost a joke.
Story and bugs withstanding, this game is great. There's so much to do and so much to see that it easily pays the cost of the game by itself. The series has potential again after a misstep with DA2 but I really hope it doesn't take them 5-6 years to put out the next one or else it might be forgotten yet again.

Your ability to build your character and party has been reduced since you no longer get attribute points to level up but instead you get certain points assigned when you choose specific abilities in the skill tree. You are also limited to how many potions you can carry, reduced to three potion slots and out of all the mage skills there is 1 single spell in knight enchanter specilization that can heal.

You can also no longer use abilities with the radial menu and eventually I had more abilities unlocked than I could assign to my controller. Party members need constantly told what to do such as telling mages NOT to run into melee range of Dragons or Giants time and time again, the AI for party members is really rather bad.

The voice acting is stellar, the cast did a great job especially Sera she has some great conversation's with the player and party members. There is also some great area's to explore but so little interesting content, my favourite part of the game was a Ball in the capital of Orlais which was beautiful and a very short venture into a Dwarf ruined Thaig. Battling Dragons is great fun and rewarding, the main story is rather short and has one or two twists that will surprise but the rest of it is very basic and predictable.

Exploring different locations and seeing how they are graphically represented is really cool as they all are extremely unique and interesting. The characters you meet are brilliant, again, super unique and stand apart from one another and you end up having a favourite. Dialog is equally impressive, hundreds of lines for every character that can be easily missed. How much did they record?! Along with that, the voice acting itself is obviously amazing. BUT, I've played around 70 hours so far and have pretty much discovered all locations and feel as if I'm coming towards the end of the story. Now there are so so so many side quests it's unreal. But I'm not interested in them anymore. They feel so similar to each other it almost feels like you're repeating the same thing in a different location. Kill that guy. Collect this. The main story is totally forgettable, nothing great at all.I love the game, but after a week of playing Ive become bored and considering CEX are offering £40 for a trade in, in cash, I think I'd rather get that money and buy something else. Shame. Expand

Outstanding game. And yes, it IS a game for those who like to complain about the color of grass or the shape of a cloud. Funnily, people who complain about this praise things about DA:O (which was awesome) that were in DA:O as well (such as OTT blood splattered party members).

The first part of this game is a grind in the Hinterlands, and if like some of the numpties who felt compelled to "0" review it after 15 minutes of game time, you only ever stick to that area's endless list of fetch quests which are designed to bring people new to the series into the game world with easy to do tasks (well, until you hit that level 12 farm gate, or the dragon)... without ever venturing forth, you're going to dislike this.

But the excellence in design here is that you can begin to do things in any order you wish. You can progress the story without fear of locking out previous areas (something that happened in DA:O - I'm not knocking DA:O as its on my all time favorite list).

People say NYEH NYEH Mass Effect was so much better and non linear. Ermm... Mass Effect WAS quite linear. Roaming a planet in a bugged buggy is freedom? No, there was still only perhaps three places worth visiting per planet, and many of the story quests and exploration had to be done in a particular order in order to be completionist. And there was TONS of fetch quests, deliver messages, kill 3 bad guys, etc.

Mass Effect was an amazing game that I loved... but it's just insanity that people fondly remember games and choose to ignore flaws and frustrations that they absolutely would have **** about back then, just to throw mud at a new title.

I paid $50 for DA:I. When I finish sinking 50+ hours into (I'm 20 now and have barely scratched it), will I have got my money's worth? That will be a rate of $1 an hour. You piss money away at the cinemas for 90 - 180 minutes worth of a film you may or may not like.

Bioware have done an outstanding job again. Yeah there's things that you might not like. But when EVER has a game been truly perfect? Never. Bugs have existed since Pong, and you either accept them or if they are game breaking (which nothing in this has been), you move along.

More than any other game I’ve played recently, Dragon Age: Inquisition is a game experience that reflects what you, the player, put into it. While claims of 20 to 200 hours of gameplay based on previews and developer interviews are still being debated, the fact is that this game contains an impressive wealth of content. I’ve already experienced one moment in the game when I though “a lesser developer would have ended the game here and saved the rest for a sequel or paid DLC.” Inquisition is a great game, a more than worthy addition to the series, and in my opinion, more than redeems Bioware’s reputation after the widely criticized DA2. I’m roughly 30 hours into the game and still feel like I’m much closer to the beginning than to the end.

In terms of gameplay, Inquisition would probably be best categorized as an action RPG. It feels less tactical than previous entries in the series, but this may be due to the fact that I’m playing DAI on a console and played the previous games on PC. My character is an archer, so my experience is largely limited to ranged combat, but the overall gameplay and feel of combat is positive. Most animations are good, and the camera is generally cooperative. Character movement feels fluid and natural, though perhaps a bit sluggish at times during combat. Bioware has also included a tactical mode which can be switched on and off as needed. This allows you to issue orders to your party in a much more tactical manner, though the camera in this mode could use some improvement.

Two of the most obvious issues with gameplay involve jumping. For starters, the jumping animation leaves something to be desired, and your characters seems to jump straight up in a very limited fashion. The tendency to get caught by small objects while moving makes jumping tedious and frustrating. Fortunately, you don’t have to jump too often (though I found myself cursing my bunny-hopping rogue as I tried to dodge the fireballs spewed by a dragon). The second issue is that the jumping button is also used as your primary means of interacting the with world. This means that, more often than not, you will literally find yourself jumping up and down any time you try to pick up loot. More critically, in instances where your interaction is time-sensitive, the fraction of a second it can take for the game to recognize an interaction opportunity can have dire consequences. Perhaps they should have mapped the interact function to the right side of the d-pad. It’s counterintuitive, but I do not believe that button is used for anything else, and it would solve some issues.

Last, and absolutely not least, are the story and characters. This is where DAI really shines, but also where you have to invest some time to get the most bang for your buck. Characters are all well-rounded, with distinct personalities and strong backstories which are revealed throughout the course of the game – if you take the time to talk to them. It’s generally a good idea to check-in with at least one or two characters any time you return to your base of operations, and always after major advancements in the storyline. I’ve frequently noticed myself spending more than an hour in Haven just swapping out some gear and talking to people. It’s not simply a scrollfest, as you have to make decisions about how you talk to people, decisions which have consequences. Your compatriots’ opinions of you can and will open up new missions and War Table operations for you through the course of the game.

I’m certain there’s a lot I’ve overlooked, and I’m not even close to finishing the game yet. While there is still room for improvement, Inquisition is easily one of the best RPGs of the year. In fact, it’s probably one of the best games of the year, period. A great story that’s written and presented well, made even better through the fact that you actually have a say in how it turns out. The Dragon Age games usually lend themselves to multiple playthroughs if you want to experience everything, and DAI is no exception. Most importantly for Bioware, Inquisition goes a long way towards reestablishing the proud tradition of the Dragon Age series.

There is vast amount of quest in very beautiful areas, however they lack quality and I feel it was a grind sometimes inc comparison to large game like sky rim. The companion quest was a dissapointment, they lack depth And could be completed in 15min. Thus overall, it was a addictive game, though the ending was a dissapointment as you will feel you decision did not affect anything ( not even a cut scene). The inventory was a mess, I spend much of my time trying to determine what to keep, and at the end of the day it didn't matter. I really liked how it linked up with da 2. I'm comparison to other dragon age game it is properly on par with da 2 due to it quantity, though I think da 2 main campaign was much more interesting. Bioware should of focus on quality over quantity particularly in questing.they may lack the expertise to do this now since much of the old bioware have left. Expand
