Let me start off by saying I never played the original Dragon Ages, but I, like many, heard all the bad opinions on them. So to say I went into Inquisition reluctantly is an understatement! The game play was sometimes repetitive, but mostly enjoyable. The music was also sometimes repetitive, but well done. The skill trees were good, but not groundbreaking. The story and characters were put together very well, but the pacing is poorly executed. You can find yourself over leveling if you're a completionist like myself, causing later areas to become too easy. All together I think it was a really great game that I got around 100 hours playtime out of but I think this game gets a better rep simply because of the lack of quality titles that came out around it's release date. 8.5/10 but I lean more towards 9 than 8. This is a very good game. Some of the side quests are dull but every RPG game in history has the same problem. Controls are quirky in bigger battles but still not bad. It is worth the money. Very few games on the PS4 can claim that. Its not perfect but a great game.

I m fan of RPGs. And if a game doesnt meet requirements of RPG , I give low rate. But This game meets requirement. The problem is lack of Next gen graphics. and there should be more fun activities and civilisation in an RPG . Skyrim was better in this case. I like the games. Its too long and exciting but it doesnt deserve AAA.

I love Dragon Age: Origins. Dragon Age 2 wasn't great, but playable and somewhat enjoyable. I also really love Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. This game, however, is not only the worst in the series but also the worst game Bioware has ever made by a large margin.

The entire freaking game is made up of simplistic filler content like fetch quests. The combat is atrocious and completely dumbed down. The writing is bad and the story is uninspired. The characters are superficial and boring. The Iron Bull beast romance option is disgusting. Tolerance and equality is good, but having what feels like half of the characters in the game to be LGBT feels forced. The UI is horrible and really annoying. The game is full of tons of bugs.

I finally gave up after forcing myself to play this abysmal game for 12 hours and sold my copy as fast as I could to the next sucker. Avoid this completely unplayable drivel at all costs. Don't believe the bought critics or the perfect 10 user ratings from EA drones. I used to be a huge Bioware fan, but have now come to the realization that this once great studio is truly dead. I am done with them.

Charmless, dull, repetitive. Doesn't hold a candle to Skyrim, which is a MUCH better game. If you love interactive storytelling adventures, and adore watching endless poorly acted cutscenes, this is the game for you. Otherwise you'll get sick of it fast.

I got to say that this was the Dragon Age I was more or less expecting. I originally bought it on the PS3, but I fell in love with this game and felt I had to get a PS4 to see the upscaled version. (I had been meaning to by one for a while now, this was just the push that I needed.)

Graphics aside (I'll get to that later) the combat is slightly less action orientated than DA2, however it tends to focus more on steering you on a tactical route, making you think before you jump right in to every fight (at least on hard and nightmare difficulty. Easy not worth mentioning.) This change was welcome, but to be honest I did find the tactical camera a bit needless, aside from pausing combat and scanning the enemies stats.

I liked most of the side characters and companions (except Cole, he's weird.) Story was enjoyable and for once the split path does give the game a bit diversity (limited, but more than many other games have offered on such a scale.)

Now for the visuals: Most of the areas a re simply massive. So much space that you get a little intimidated at first. Also the diversity in backdrops is impressive. Makes you wonder why they didn't put this kind of effort into DA2.

A comparison between the PS3 and PS4 version: Visuals are significantly better on the PS4 (making the PS3 version look ugly by direct comparison.) This is especially noticeable in the backgrounds as they have allot more detail. I also noted the PS3 version is buggier and has longer loading times. Asdie from that the game plays exactly the same.

    Overall:
It's been a while since I found a game that I immersed myself into like this. I thoroughly injoied this game and hope that this is what we can expect from now on from Bioware.

    Developer Tip:
If any developer read this, please give the Inquisitor a choice in casual clothes while at the keep. It seems a bit funny that he/she has only one look yet has dozens of different looking armors for each class. Not essential, but would be nice.

First off, you'll need to be able to connect to the EA servers to activate this game to play it.

Now, if you were hoping for the sequel to Dragon Age : Origins, give it up. In fact, they handled the situation so poorly with The Warden's absence (sorry, yes everything I hold dear is dying, but I'm not interested, here's a worthless belt you can sell for 18 gold) and Morrigan's presence

Now, if you were hoping for the sequel to Dragon Age : Origins, give it up. In fact, they handled the situation so poorly with The Warden's absence (sorry, yes everything I hold dear is dying, but I'm not interested, here's a worthless belt you can sell for 18 gold) and Morrigan's presence during this huge threat, that it'll disappoint you (if you chose the Dark Ritual in Origins you're really going to be angry). Overall, I played the game for 121 hours and I found the whole Inquisition plot not very interesting. The power and respect you're given is forced too quickly without seeming to earn it. Rulers of Orlais and Ferleden don't care if your raising an army and fighting by yourself in their territories, and concede to your will automatically. You tend to stand around more in the game listening to people talk about adventures than actually having one. Unless you count fetch quests as adventures. The plot itself isn't very big, but it meanders around causing the game to drag on for hours and you to lose focus on what is important. It's not like Origins' more intense, focus plot. Dealing with the Mage and Templars. isn't anymore fun than it was in the last game. The use of the word "Inquisition" doesn't make much sense considering your job is to do people favors, find things and build an army like a ruler; not torturing people to admit to and rooting out heresy. I wonder if someone was just so in love with the title that the developers were forced to keep it regardless of the storyline or gameplay. But mostly, the problem with this game is its over numerous side quests that are straight from the MMO format of checklists; find twenty of this, find forty of that, kill these, kill those. It is a lot like that game Kingdoms of Amalur: 1001 Dull Quests. I'm also disappointed that all your decisions from the previous game, when you load them up on the EA web site, really don't matter but for conversational pieces, codexes and lackluster cameos. As part of a series, it's disappointing. What started out so great with the first game and had so much potential going forward, just falls flat because there's no payoff in progression with your decisions or characters like in the Mass Effect Series. It is another stand alone version as DA2 was. You could say that this game undoes everything that happened in Origins. Which makes replaying through the series useless.

There are some issues with this this games overall performance. Glitches in the "save game" can corrupt and freeze you out of playing any further. I recommend alternating between two save files.

It certainly isn't the prettiest game that has graced my PS4. Much better graphic wise than the first two, but far shy from where graphics are today. It must have been a rush job trying to port this game from last gen to next gen because the frame rates in the cutscenes and during conflict drop. Overall, the graphics just aren't that good as some things look great, like a rolling sea in the background or dragons that'll chomp you to bits, and yet others look bland and void of texturing. You see people losing their feet through floors and ground, people walking through each other, weapons disappearing in people (and not in a good way), and disappearing/reappearing objects or people as you walk around certain areas. I guess I found the whole animation just plain ugly. Nice facial features and more detail to characters wardrobe and weapons, but overall ugly looking npcs and the bodies that look like marinates. My dwarf just looks like a walking barrel. I hope when they retool Dragon Age 4 that they decide to put their effort into art animation like they did in their other series Mass Effect. The sound is most excellent, as you can hear many noises and conversations occurring a the same time.

As for Gameplay, combat is like DA2 not Origins, except you'll squeeze the trigger instead of pushing a button. There is no auto-attack where it needs one. And they're missing the Origins cool finishing moves, AGAIN. They added the "tactical view" but that doesn't work very well because it is way too sluggish to operate. Why didn't they take advantage of the touch pad for the PS4? What I really dislike about the combat is that enemies will respawn in certain areas like the game is an MMO. I also believe that they wasted their effort on making mounts to ride, for it is just as quick, if not simpler, to walk through the game. Leveling up has sadly changed as you can no longer put points into your attributes like strength and wisdom, but only in which type of attack you can have on your hot buttons. And it certainly has the most complicated, with the most numerous steps in craft making that I have ever played.

Overall, huge effort in making this game, but lack of direction and poor choices makes a lackluster game and ruins the series.

So there was a major incident when I was chatting to some grey wardens which forced me to skip dialogue to continue the game, skip dialogue in such a story driven game? Unsatisfactory.

Multiplayer’s bugs extend to people never loading ingame loading in bugged being unable to turn unable to attack res insane lag times. It’s hard to believe they would even release multiplayer in this state and it is a massive spit in a players face.
I did a lot of side questing like almost all of the side quests I was getting bored with the game and decided to start the end sequence. All the choices I made, getting cole an amulet, helping French chick get out of debt, in the wrap up were utterly and completely ignored.
I got what faction I sided with the power struggle with the king queen, I got one other faction and a minor detail about the inquisition.
I don’t play 40 hrs to get 3 small narratives some of which were not really of significance.

Definetly unworthy of a ten let alone the critics 9.

    The 9+ side:

For starters, the classes are what you can expect from an RPG.
Rogues, mages and warriors so everyone can find a class they're comfortable in.

The looks on your character can be changed beyond belief, showing of the "next-gen-ness" of this game.
You could play around for hours, just creating a character.

The gameplay is nice and it feels natural from the first moment.
You get rolled into combat smoothly and the game builds up at the tempo it should, not too fast, but definetely not too slow either.

Some parts such as tactical-combat mode, are a bit more challenging at first but as soon as you master them, they become a joy to use.
These "more difficult" parts of the game can easily be left out if you don't feel like diving into them right away, however they can give you an advantage on the battlefield from time to time.

Some people below seem to claim that gear and tech-tree don't matter, I've noticed significant changes when modifying both. It's not all "Zomg i'm full epix I 1shot evrithing", but it's very well balanced in my opinion.

As for the quests and storyline, so far they haven't failed to surprise me. From time to time there's new little sidequests and bonus parts you unlock as you walk yourself through numerous minigames and challenges.
Once again, they're not too hard (on normal mode) but not too easy either.

The maps and environment are beautifully built up, and haven't failed to please me.

    The -1 side:
Sometimes I find it oddly difficult to find out what I'm supposed to do with some of my loot.
From the 60 slots in my bags there's 30 in use by schematics, plants, and materials.
So far there hasn't been a push in any direction when it comes to these materials for what I should do with them.

I think that because of that, people might make the mistake of selling / destroying the lot until they find out they can turn them in at a quartermaster / smith / ...

(That might be my mistake for skipping over the beginning quests where you learn how to deal with these.
But those quests aren't obligatory, so it's easy to make the same mistake I did.)

There's no real boundaries in where you should go either, but when you're a level 4 and run into level 12 elite monsters, I guess you can tell you should turn around and start running. (lol).
But then again, that's the disadvantage of playing an open-world RPG.

Also there's a few minor bugs I've run into, (Unless my rogue can teleport in and out of Rocks). But they're not really disturbing the gameplay. If you're stuck, you just switch characters and you pop out sooner or later.

    CONCLUSION:

I really, really like this game.
In my personal opinion, without any subjectivity towards Bioware or EA-games, they have done a great job creating this. It's a must-have for every gamer who likes to play a somewhat challenging fantasy game once in a while.

I've had a lot of "Wow", "Will you look at that" and "OH SH*T THAT BEAR KEEPS CHASING ME" moments while playing, and I don't doubt I'll have a lot more in the future.

The main story is.. passable, i preferred the companion quests.
The (tavern) music is lovely and i very much enjoyed the banter your compaions would have during exploration.
I found the dragon battles to be a lot of fun.

Negatives: Just like DA2 i felt the main story lacked hard decisions or decisions which really effected the story long term.
You are given way to many side missions at the start of the game, and as im someone who has to complete all side missions before i move on, i was pretty much always 5 lvls above what you were suppose to be at throughout the game. Meaning i found all battles extremely easy and unrewarding.
The boss was the easiest battle in the game. (for me)
The war table missions seemed a lot more exciting that any of the side quests, its a shame all that is done off screen.

Overall I enjoyed it as i'm a fan of these kind of games and have always been a huge dragon age fan, but for people new to the series i can see them finding it slow and hard to get into.

Heart: I loved this game, and I played it through twice, got platinum trophy, and clocked up something like 160 hours overall. It was a lot of fun. Probably the most I've that enjoyed a game since Skyrim. The world is beautiful, the characters are well written, the graphics are fine. Fans of the DragonAge mythology with enjoy developments and discoveries that are intriguing. Finally, the DragonAge Keep deserves a mention - an excellent way to personalise the game experience (even if it doesn't make that much difference in reality).

Brain: "Doesn't make that much difference" hits the nail on the head. This game masquerades as a choice-led rpg, but actually the way you play makes hardly any difference. I obviously noticed this a lot more in my second play through, and it was disappointing when the game progressed and ended exactly the same except for a few slides at the end. There's no way to steer the fate of the Chantry, or influence the events of the world, or the opinions of characters, or do anything of any importance except for the one (admittedly cleverly disguised) linear storyline. I didn't feel like the politically powerful, string-pulling leader I was supposed to be. Finally, the lack of any "evil" story-arc options was disappointing. You could be good-good, sarcastic-good', or grumpy-good.

In conclusion I'd give this an 8. It falls short of Origins, but it's a lot better than DA2, and despite it all I did really enjoy it and that's what gaming is about right? Just a shame they didn't push the boundaries with this one.

Are you kidding? I'm wondering if Bioware is paying people to review this game, or if these five star reviews from people are those who've never played the previous games, and enjoy choppy dialogue, pointless quests and a whole lotta cheese.

I bought this game a bit worried, after the first bits of gameplay were revealed, none of it focused on the story. Then...seeing some negatively scored reviews on here(though surprisingly few) got me even more nervous.... Rightly so.

When I first started playing. I was so excited. The game was beautiful. And despite having to restart twice, because my Dragon Age Keep wouldn't load right, and then 20 times after just to make sure I liked my character's face, I was still psyched to play.

However, in the opening scenes I could already see issues. The dialogue was clunky, odd and unnatural; though I quickly ignored it. There was a bit of that in Dragon Age 2, and I still managed to love that game. But ...wait... were the characters....lip-syncing?

I'm sorry, but in all the other games, it has never been so off and so distracting. I believe I could've done a better job at matching the words to their lips half the time, and I'm total bs with editing!

Still, I kept at it. The main plot was just intriguing enough, though I had to ignore the "Oh! There goes our lord and savior the Herald" and other unending cheese-fests within the dialogue to enjoy it. I believed it would get better.

Eventually I played about 25 hours, and realized I was going nowhere. I had just gotten to the part where I can increase my relationship with my characters, and the dialogue with them was the most awkward, unnatural dialogue, I've ever heard in a video game. Let's just say...if you were interested in romancing a character before... You won't be now.

But even if you decide to not romance a character, and even if you decide to not do the pointless(get me 5 of this herb, deliver this letter, tell this person that person is dead)quests of which there are an unending amount, there's still the fact that, as you go, the main quest gets weaker and weaker.

I could seriously write a book on how disappointed I am...but honestly, this game isn't even worth it. You can dress up crap in the prettiest box, with ribbons and bows and bells and whistles...but the fact is...it's still crap.

Here are some things to keep in mind before purchasing this game:

-The tactical system is worthless. ...I actually enjoyed DA2 combat better than DAO despite popular opinion, because I also love action game combat. But this one, was a horrid "abomination" of the two(hehe). Ah! And I heard it's downright awful on the PC, so if you're a PC gamer, I would check that out.

-The dialogue will seem weird, clunky, stupid, and might cause rage attacks. Also, if you are romancing a character, it will probably seem odd or even just plain creepy at times. If you want to have a relationship with any character, you just have to get used to it. The only love interest character that seemed to mostly avoid bad writing was Dorian(although I haven't played all of the romances to completion)

-Silence. And get used to it. There's almost 0 party banter now. I never realized how much I enjoyed it, too.

-Herald on high(this needs to be a point on it's on). Now this seems like it would be cool, but when your companions/strangers/enemies, revere you for being a God, for doing, pretty much NOTHING, but being the Inquisition's puppet....it get's pretty old.

-The character is not you. And there's nothing you can do to make her feel like you.
First of all, I have a problem with voicing characters that you want to be "The Player". In Hawke's case(from DA2), it made sense. We were playing Hawke, not ourselves. In this game, not so much. It's supposed to be me...and most of the time, I wouldn't say things with the inflection or tone that this character says them.
Second of all, none of your dialogue choices make her a different character. You are the same either way. The Herald: Nice or mean. But judg-er of all. There was a moment were I felt unbridled hatred for "myself", when she sat on her throne(not kidding) and tells her men(in a condescending voice) either to kill the person you're judging or banish him or throw him in prison for the rest of his life. I wanted to cut off my own head!

But besides all this: The fact that Bioware's writing has gone to hell, poor/AI reliant combat layout, mindless busywork that's only enjoyable until you realized you spent 10 hours doing things that got you no cool cutscenes and no interesting dialogue, pretty much every "new" thing that advertized works poorly or with difficulty if at all(aka crafting, horses, modifying armor), not to mention the ridiculous amount of glitches...

I can say...the music was pretty, the graphics were amazing, and the game shows a lot of grandeur that may appeal to some's ego.

But nothing saves bad writing. Nothing.

I'll think twice before purchasing my next Bioware title.

Also the character development and personification is very poor and lack personality.
Graphics are good and there was potential for a great game.
If you are RGP fan you may enjoy it but don't hope anything new or fresh.

So, after the disappointment of DA 2 and ME3's ending, i lost in faith Bioware. But after i played through Inquisition, my faith in them was restored. This time around, the world is under attack by demons, not darkspawn, but demons, and before say it, no this game's story is not ripped straight from oblivion, in Oblivion the story focuses on finding the emperor so he can help you stop the invasion of the deadra, In DA:I you are the leader of a faction called the Inquisition (hence the name Inquisition in the title) preparing to defend the world against demons. You also can use a feature called Dragon Age: keep, It lets you customise things such as decisions in previous title so they can effect the state of the world in Inquisition, Hawke's look, gender and class, if the warden survived or not, his/her race, look and class, if you choose to let him/her survive etc... And you me heard right, many characters of previous DAs make at least a cameo, including: Alistair, Leliana, Varric and even Morrigan. Speaking of characters, i liked the companions who made a first appearance in this game, expect for Blackwall, Bioware was clearly going for variety in their personalities. Now let's talk about gameplay, the combat borrows the fast pace of DA2 and adds a super move-type ability, and combines it with the overhead camera of DA: Origins. Unfortunately the overhead cam is clunky and is overall useless. And according to what one of my friends who bought this game on PC said, the PC version has clunky controls with limited remapping options, no mod support and is very poorly optimized, so I'd say that the PC version gets a 6/10, and iv'e also heard that the game looks awful on on last-gen consoles, so I recommend getting for the PS4 or Xbox 1. Let's see, we have 12 very open areas to explore, and unlike DA 2, they have excellent variety, you have deserts, snowy wastelands, Orlais's capital Val royal, the lush forests of Ferleden, you name it, not only that but there are mini-locations that open up temporarily open up (the areas are not interconnected though),overall the game is huge. And since your the leader of the Inquisition, you get an awesome castle called Skyhold that you can upgrade and customise, not only that but there are some game of thrones-type politics (you can even sit on your throne and judge criminals, deserters, traitors among others at certain points of the game), There's a ton of side quests, and for the most part, i enjoyed them. There's the war table, from there you can send agents to deal with issues so they can bring things such as unique weapons and armour, you also can receive side quests from factions to earn their support and some valuable resources, and you can get perks that allow to access locked off sections of some areas. Dragons are back and hunting them is pretty epic (not as epic Dragon's Dogma, but it's still epic). The game also has high production qualities such amazing animations, very good lip syncing, good graphics, and excellent voice acting. I'd that the biggest negative of this game is that building up the Inquisition barely really affects the ending and that the final Boss battle is slightly disappointing. And the multiplayer is a f****** mobile game, it forces to either grind endlessly or spend money on new characters and potions, f*** you EA. And i should mention that it took about 80 hours to finish the game, including quite a few side quests. Overall though i really enjoyed this game, sure it has faults, it's not a flawless gem but i really enjoyed it.

And remember, you have the right to disagree with me.

It is so boring, that I stopped playing around 20 hours in, left it for a month, came back and could only stand to play 4 hours before quitting again. I really want to like this game but it has no redeeming qualities. It is a adventure MMO with very light rpg elements thrown in just to be able to label it an RPG. Customization is narrow and the story... oh my god the boring story and worthless characters. Imagine the worst MMO you ever played, with forgettable characters, cheap fetch quests over and over, meaningless plot development, and classes with "I win" buttons. That is DA:I to the letter. Even graphics, which are supposed to be incredible are ugly except maybe the environment. I hate the shiny finish everything has but I will let that go. The worst part of this game is gameplay. DA:I forces you into a story that you cannot really influence. You play it their way or you are SOL. For instance, in the winter palace, they actually put a timer on you to finish the quest when all I wanted to do was kill everyone in the palace. I actually wanted the assassins to win because I hated the other side. Do you have a choice in the matter? Nope. This is why it does not feel like an RPG. Nothing you do matters regardless of choice and the entire plot is very linear despite trying to fool you with a plethora of side quests and large psuedo-open maps. You either do as you are told or you lose. Back to gameplay, Mages and Warriors are poorly balanced. Mages can beat the entire game on any difficulty with 1 button (maybe 2 in case of emergency). Same with warriors. Rogues are absolutely attrocious because of all the melee AOE enemies in the game and their lack of survivability. Their only choice is to be archer which is fine to stay alive but they are so weak that they cant do anything on their own. Enemies get stuck while getting attacked, and so do your allies. You allies do not follow commands when told to do so. There is no strategy at all in this game. Crafting is worthless so far (25 hours in and the stuff i found is much better than anything I can craft). The loot system sucks the big one.

I have nothing good to say about this game except that it works and does not crash very much. I wish I could get a full refund.

Great game, didn't live up to the hype but what really could?I wasn't a fan of the roster of characters to adventure with. The whole bi sexuality/homosexuality angle overblown. I did love the environments and the random loot generation(to a point)and the dragon fights are great. Still one of the best games I've played this year. Definitely worth a purchase in my opinion

I think when you look at it realistically ;), what Bioware did was add in a bunch of huge locales with lots to do, but not much depth. They put this open world gargantuan on top of a narrative structure that is very similar to DA:2, the war table is the frame. This is fan service at its best, really. DA:2 was all narrative, with little exploration. DA:I is the same 30-40 hour narrative put within a huge world. However, a world with not much actual meaning or exposition in terms of player experience. The player is forced into exploring in order to essentially 'level up' the story. This gets boring at best, after around 20 hours, and then it gets annoying, and then it gets frustrating, and then it seems unbearable. So if you are a story nut, like me, do as little exploring as possible, trust me. I went almost everywhere and there is nothing that really shines in terms of sidequests or discovered quests. They all just seem empty, although some contain good lore, which is a plus if you are into reading a lot of lore on the screen. An overall decent game which is redeemed through its story. Expand

At time of typing, I have completed every trophy in the game (sans the Nightmare mode [and, by proxy, the Platinum] one; the Persuasive one is bugged although I have 15 agents) and have collected every mosaic, bottle, landmark, blah blah blah. I was at 104 hours when I finished so I really don't get why people are saying they have 150+ hours and still aren't done.

I digress. I have several legitimate concerns about the way DA: I padded out content. I see a lot of people saying "if you don't like it, don't do it!" but the problem with that argument is the fact that the fluff-to-content ratio is extremely lopsided. When I completed the game, I still had 273 Power left and nothing to use it on. That right there tells you there is an EXCESSIVE amount of fluff that does little towards the progression of the game's story itself. Likewise, since the game opens up many of the areas early on - right after Skyhold, really - it's possible to go through and hit a wall with character progression within the first 30-ish hours of the game. By the time I went to the third major story mission (Halamshiral), I was wearing the very gear I would be wearing for the remaining 50+ hours of gameplay. This progression ceiling does not only apply to the story progression but also to the fluff as well. When I finished collecting all the shards and opened the final door in the Oasis, I was rewarded with gear that was markedly inferior to the stuff I had crafted or found 10+ hours prior. This doesn't even touch on how poor the context is behind most of these side missions. Most of it boils down to: Go do this because Inquisition.

The War Table is a great example of poor design and fluff in action. Multiple 5+ hour missions that grant minimal reward. Even some 12+ hour missions! Here's a practical example: I sent Josephine off on a 15 hour mission of negotiations in northwestern Ferelden. The next day when it was complete, I got a four line paragraph explaining what happened, a whopping 106 gold and an Amulet of Power. Woooooooo. Likewise, the War Table is a poor substitute for materials gathering. If I send Cullen out to gather minerals, it takes him 15-ish minutes (give or take, depending on agents) to come back with 6-8 minerals. When I gather minerals from a node, I gather anywhere from 1-4 per click and there are almost always 2-3 nodes in close proximity. In the same 15 minutes, I can easily gather three times as much. Plus, you cannot send all three of your people to gather from the same resource or region, thus making gathering via your War Council an even bigger slog than doing it yourself.

I found a lot of the character development quest lines and conversation trees banal and paper-thin, not anywhere close to the same level of character development found in other Bioware titles. The Cassandra/Varric character development seemed to the most well fleshed out while Iron Bull and Sera were the most entertaining to keep in the party for random banter. But, by the end, I felt no real attachment to any except the ones who started the quest with me (notably Cassandra and Varric) and doing the ally quests wasn't all that satisfying. If anything, it felt like an obligatory BioWare staple of throwing a whole bunch of allies at the player just because they could. Assuming the full party is acquired, did the player really need 3 warriors, 3 rogues, and 3 mages, in addition to whatever class the player character is?

The main story arc was decent enough, if not slightly generic, and at least it kept me invested. In looking back, I could have finished the game around 30-40 hours and felt satisfied, perhaps even moreso.

Beyond the fluff issue, gameplay is often clunky, especially if you play melee classes on harder difficulty level, and the game pushes the player into FAR TOO MANY menu screens for inventory and character management.

I don't regret purchasing or playing the game and I gladly give it a 3 out of 5 (6/10) overall but I see little compelling reason to play it again. The characters hold little interest and the outcome will be mostly the same (only very small changes in the ending slide show) regardless of choices made.

This game a beautifully diverse and vast world just waiting for you to explore it. The game also has a fantastic voice acted cast of 9 companions, and since this a BioWare game you have the option to romance these people if you wish. And let me tell you, these romance scenes are top-notch. The story is fantastic and as long as you would expect a good RPG to be, at about 80- 100 hours. Also, the dragon battles are incredibly satysfying as they actually require strategy to defeat because of their size and power, and every dragon is different! Some use armor, some don't, some have major weaknesses that other dragons don't have. This game is great but does have some flaws. Some of the side quests are really just fetch quests, making some of the game feel MMO-like, and there really isn't that much armor variety in the game, so you may keep your same armor set for dozens of hours at a time. But the negatives pale in comparison to the great things this game does. I believe this game is a great addition to the Dragon Age series and is rightfully the game of the year! Expand

After reading official reviews on this game, and seeing multiple articles mentioning it as a GOTY contender I decided it was definitely worth playing. I hadn't played a fantasy RPG of this scale before, the closest to it was probably Oblivion years ago on the PC, so it seemed like it would be a fresh experience that I would enjoy investing a lot of time in to.

The short of it: I enjoyed playing DA:I, but found many elements of the game weighing down on the overall experience. Bioware made a huge game, which they may have tried to throw everything and the kitchen sink in to; much of the game comes across as uninspiring, repetitive, and clunky after the time it takes to complete an average play through. After the 40 hour mark, I began feeling like the game had lasted long enough and that I just wanted it to end. There was still so much I could do, but it just didn't seem like it was really worth it.

I'm left thinking, had Bioware cut down on a lot of the filler then they may have had more time to commit towards building a more engaging/fun experience (with less bugs!)

7/10 - unlikely to revisit this franchise.

    - Great mix of characters, some interesting romance options, but great friends too.
    - The story gets quite complicated, but there are some very satisfying scenes which tie up many of the threads.
    - Combat is a slight down side. It's intended to be a bit strategic, but comes across as button mashing much of the time (but then I think I prefer guns).
    - Biggest weakness is the user interface. This is way too complicated for a console controller, and can become frustrating.
    - Questing turns up piles of loot, but unfortunately your inventory is tiny so you'll spend loads of time destroying or selling items just to make room. This is a major downer.
    - Lots of replay value with alternate characters, sexes, and romances.
    - The game makes you care about pixels! A major achievement.

Some cinematic talk scenes have audio issues were background conversations will be overheard rather than not being able to hear the main conversation you're trying to have with someone. Some characters won't open their mouths when they talk. On a different topic, I wish they would of put some mini games in for things like lock picking. On more than one occasion, I have done a quest and when going to complete it, I could not speak with the person to end it. I later came back to it and it let me enter the dialog but was very irritating. Exploration is always fun and they give you a lot to look for and lots of different locations to explore. Even though the maps not as big as Skyrim per say, they did a good job of having a lot to do. Whereas I enjoyed the statecraft aspects of the game, the character development and progression, and the decision matrix, those same features may come across to someone else as boring.

The fighting mechanics and fighting are gratifying if you're the kind of person who likes damage counters, life bars, and a third person perspective, but as I said before, depending on who you are this may be a turn off.

The menu system can be a bit unapproachable at first, but as the game progresses, one becomes more familiar with it, but that's not to say that things could not be simplified, but the bad UI doesn't detract from the experience.

Overall, I think it's a great game with a great story with especial nods to those who've experienced the previous entries. Item crafting was a new feature introduced in this installment. It becomes more satisfying as you gather more schematics and crafting materials. The customization options in the game go beyond just weapons and armors, but extend to your story, your main character and your base of operations at well.

At the same time it's not without its faults like the aforementioned menu system. There is also the "white noise" that is too common with large scale RPGs, you know, collect these, go here, do that. I enjoy exploring the map as much as the next gamer, probably more as I consider myself a conpletionist, but even I got tired of scouring the terrain for a single item that has no effect on the story or the gameplay at large.

Before I conclude, the maps are gorgeous and huge and immersive. The world of Dragon Age came to life for me in this sequel, but it's not a true "open world" game because the world is broken up into explorable regions. But yes, I would definitely recommend this game.

The amount of dialog between characters is astonishing and there is multiple ways most situations can play out and endings to the game itself. You'll find yourself playing through more then once just to see how it all can end.
The Multi-player feature to this game is amazing and I find it very fun even more if you have friends to play with. The game-play in Multi-player reminds me of the Baldur's Gate series which I also enjoy a fair amount.
Any fan of RPG's or the Dragon Age Series should take the time to play this installment of the franchise and experience it's story telling and vast world for yourself. Don't forget about "DragonAgeKeep.com" witch allows you to build a background story to Inquisition and shape the world you play in.

A long wait, but well worth it, this game up there with the greats, 100+ hours in and I still see no ending in sight, yet I am compelled to keep playing by the interesting side missions, exploration, collectables/lore-codex. Most of the negative reviews I have read are bizarre, often more akin too "I don't like to read" and "My PC crashes".

The reason this game doesn't get a 10 from me is the fact that you can alter stats (just skills) and the side quests could do with a little more diversity at times. Otherwise, a fantastic game I'll be playing more than once.

i don´t get how people can give this game a negative score. Best game for me on the PS4 so far (Jan 2015). Played nearly 90hrs to end the main story, but there was so much left to do and i can imagine myself playing this game again from the start later in this year.
EA and BIOWARE did a great job on this. The atmosphere you get in this world is amazing, much to explore beautiful setting

    • Quests are MMO type quests once again not a strong suit especially for a single player game

    • Bugs, bugs and oh yeah bugs. You'll need to keep a few saves. This is a beta, not a release. Don't listen to what they say - the quality of this game is late alpha or early beta quality at best.

I am loving my time in Ferelden. The combat is challenging at first (however I would like a few more tactical choices), the world is absolutely magical, so much to explore and take in, the story is well done as well (and I say that encompassing ass dialogue, side quests, lore and main plot). Overall, DA:I is a wonderful game, and I feel dirty saying that because it has EA on the logo.....

I recommend getting used to the system of DA:I, and then turning every assist feature off (pause during AoE, spells not hitting friendlies etc) and put the game on hard. Also, turn off any HUD and explore the world with your eyes. I feel this is the best way to engage yourself in the game and truly take in the experience. This also points tot he flaws I have with the game. Even with HUD off, I should be able to quickly check party health (especially during non combat) without having to open the tactics menu, I should also be able to gauge my controlled characters health (verbal comments, red screen etc). Also, the search function should give some kind of visualization towards the direction an item was pinged (similar to when locating key items).

Overall I would definitely recommend DA:I to any person looking for an RPG experience. Well done Bioware.

You can't do anything without your party, and I absolutely hated that. I prefer games where you can just solo groups of enemies, if you want to. I realise you don't "have" to take a party with you, but you're pretty much screwed if you don't. The only way to solo any group of enemy in that game is if you went with the Champion line on warrior.

Dragon Age Inquisition is a definite pickup for anyone who has a PS4. This is even more true if you have little to no games for it currently

Story - The story is basic. you had the luck of surviving an onslaught that no one at that time even knows the cause of. You are captured and questioned, as you are the only survivor of a fade rift opening. about 15 minutes into the game, you find out that you have the ability to close fade rifts, tears in the air that allow demons to invade our world. Using this new found power, you gather a force in a effort to close the fade rift, dealing with political, religious, and military problems along the way.

Character - the character is a Created person. You have the choice of human, elf, dwarf, and qunari (dragon/demon looking guys) each have their own special abilities and limitations. Almost everything is free reign in terms of creation, though funny colors for skin and the customization array of weaponry and armor are not in the game, but we will touch on that in gameplay.

Universe - The world this game creates is the best part This world feels complete, with caves, dungeons, ruins, towns, and landscape to explore. All while telling their own piece of the lore. There is a deeper are wide array of side stories through letters, books, and discoveries throughout the world that would appeal to the explorer gamer, the one who likes to pick apart the world their are playing in and see how everything runs, and every story that the game can tell. The best part is these specific side lore are completely optional, so those who wish to stay focused on the task at hand will not feel they are missing out on anything detrimental to the plot.

Cast - The characters that join your Inquisition are the heart and sole of the game. The chemistry between the different squad you run with makes every trip a fun time, as conversations between the characters occurs. This also makes you run with different people, mixing and matching to find both the squad that is best suited to take down a dragon, and the squad whose conversations are so entertaining you would run them during fetch missions.

Romance - this is a fairly weak part of the game. To put bluntly, for the guys out there, the most attractive female in the game (Liliana) cannot be romanced. The romance feels like a tack on simply for being a bioware game. While it feels more realistic in terms of defining who is homosexual, heterosexual, and bisexual, the lack of choices leaves most gamers picking the same one, which of course takes away from the game in a way. Mass Effect have a subclass of people based on their romance options, you had the guys who took tali, you had the guys who took miranda, you had the guys who took ashley, and so on. This is not the case in Inquisition, as in the case with male characters, most people pick Josephine, with the only other choice being Cassandra or taking the homosexual path.

Gameplay: This is both the strength and weakness of the game. The dual usage of the third person rush in guns blazing is available, as is a more strategic overview with order giving for the strategic people. Using both comes in handy, and adds that little extra froth to the combat, though that's really it. Most of combat revolves around (depending on your class) charging, aiming, or flanking, then holding the right trigger while occasionally pressing Square or Circle for power hits. Running around can get tiring, especially when you have to backtrack to an area you already cleared in order to get a couple elmroots for another fetch mission. If it wasn't for the occasional character interaction, this would be a lot worse than it is. Along with this comes the Bioware conversation piece, which features optional dialogue that is diverse in delivery. Unlike Mass Effect, which only featured Paragon or Renegade, Inquisition takes this a little deeper by not assigning good or bad to any of them. You can play the game truer to who you are, whether it be a mindless idiot who needs everything spelled out for them, or a violent fanatic who draws his blade at the slightest flinch. you can even be a flirt by running a romantic dialogue with any and everyone. This in term affects the people around you's opinion of you. While this holds no real significance in gameplay, the story will be slightly different in terms of interaction. Also if you piss someone off too much they will leave your party and you will never get them back for the rest of the game.

Overall the game is good and definitely a pickup if you do not have anything to play right now.

It brings a lot to the table and has at least 100 hours of meaningful content to entertain you. It could have easily been A LOT better which I will highlight in the pros and cons, but this certainly sets the groundwork for this to be an epic and amazing series for next gen.

    PROS:
-You can run through the game on casual or normal and the combat will be pretty easy so you can focus on the characters and story. However you can also crank it up to hard or the brual nightmare mode (no thanks) for a ridiculous challenge that will make you think a lot more. It satisfies any level of gamer.
-Yes the story is a bit banal but it serves the purpose and I enjoyed exploring the worlds and hearing the character dialogue and banter which made up for the story. You have a good amount of choice in who you hate on, or who you end up seducing, which is always fun.
-Huge open world keeps the experience fresh and there's A LOT to explore. You can continue to change up your team to suit your surroundings and quests. I don't agree with other reviews that it's boring or has too many fetch quests.

    CONS:
-You must use tactical camera in hard and nightmare mode, but unfortunately tactical camera is not polished the way it should be for its required use. I'd say 60 % of the time it's all good - but in tight and awkward spaces it can be very frustrating to maneuver and gets wonky.
-Yes there are frustrating bugs and most of them for me revolved around the tactical camera. I had the camera warp ALL THE WAY across the map on the Storm Coast, dragging my entire party with it and placing them out to sea. Wasn't even touching a button.
-I don't love the static NPC model you find in this game within towns. I'd like to see more living breathing towns to interact with.

Overall DA:I is solid and I will continue to enjoy the last 15 or 20 hours I have left. It could have and should have been at least an 8 or even 9 but the bugs and unpolished tactical camera are pretty egregious. My personal enjoyment of the game keeps it in the green at a 7 and I think this is the right direction for the series.

In DA:I, you will need to fast travel to get to different places or cities. But once you go somewhere, there are really huge areas for you to explore, maybe the biggest improvement in the series. The game presents nice visual effects, like the sun light or the water movement. The downside is the characters interaction. In the DA:O, you could go to your camp and talk with your party members to change their approval, give them gifts to love or hate you, etc. In this game, I didn't feel the same need, for example, to choose my answers to party members carefully, because the worst thing that could happen is read that they slightly disapprove, disapprove or greatly disapprove. And it stops there. It may change a couple of lines later, but doesn't make a big difference. But the dialog parts are still nice, with the option of being "correct", funny or more brutal, or even more options depending on the dialog. Good sets of customizable weapons and armors based on crafting and resources collecting. You can date most of your crew members, same sex or. Good game lenght as well, with lots of (sometimes silly or repetitive) side quests. I will not review multiplayer, since I've not played it enough yet. Overall, it's a must buy for new/old RPG gamers or... any gamer, actually. Expand

In demo' sat E3 & pax they showed things that never appeared in game, such as telling soldiers in a battle to save a town or to attack and then living with the consequences. However your decisions in this game mattered none the less. You truly feel as if you are the head of an organization that is helping this world be a better place.

The world itself is probably the biggest game on next gen so far. It consists of atleast 10 massive location from deserts to Forrest's to plains. The opponents are also varied as are the dragons. This game also has the best crafting system I have seen in a game. You can have dozens of furs, cloths, metals, or gems that all do different things to different armor or weapons you craft. The story isn't the best story ever, and the villain is dumbed down a bit. But the game isn't about the villain. It's about you and your followers, you build relationships with them all and delve into their pasts and their hopes and dreams. Based on the choices you make for them they can become a much different person from one play through to the next.

This game also has hours upon hours of content. If you are one of those gamers that likes to 100% everything plan to play this game for 100's of hours. I put in over 200+ hrs on 2 speedster play throughs and didn't even do half the quests.

The leveling system is ok but not great and I wish the skill trees branched out a little more. The combat could of been a little more complex but it satisfies none the less.

At the end of the day as of right now dragon age is the best rpg on PS4 (transistors a close 2nd but it's too short) in terms of content you can't get more bang for your buck, and it's just fun. If you like RPG's you can't go wrong with this game. If your going to buy one game this year, if it was me, this would be it.

I'm about 24 hours in now and bugs have been absolutely minimal. Loading times are next to nothing. This game is polished. The lore is rich and the artwork is beautiful. There are SO MANY different ways to play this game- it's entirely up to the player: your abilities, the characters, the stories you take: there is so much playability within one game path and there are so many paths a player could choose to take. My favorite feature is the war room and the meta-strategy involved with leading advisers. Each sandbox is just phenomenal- from forests to desert- they're all good. Of course there are things I wish were different or better: I would like to have more villages to explore, a full first person mode (which would be too good to be true), even deeper character relationships, "evil" choices, and mounts for everyone in your party. But, I am obviously satisfied. This is gaming as an art form -it's what the new gen desperately needed- in its scope, detail, humor, immersion, challenge, and imagination. Expand

If you didn't like this game, it isn't because EA attached their social media site and name to it, its because you DIDN'T LIKE THE GAME. Shocker. The game-play is a good hybrid of DA2 and DAO, leaning more towards DAO (don't let the reviews fool you, it isn't DA2 2.0 as some have put it). My guess is many of these people leaving negative reviews didn't bother to play to end-game. That's like watching a movie halfway and proclaiming its the "worst movie EVER". A little dramatic I think, but to each their own. I didn't find the writing to be that bad, story was lacking but characterization was strong, and that's why you play a Bioware game really, to build a character and see what your choices effect. No DA game ever had complex combat mechanics, so I don't get that argument. Really its a solid RPG at a time when little to no RPG's were being released. Something is much better than nothing. If you want to wait for the next regurgitation of the FF series, have at it, but this title was solid. Don't expect anything ground-breaking, but there are TONS of references to the previous two titles, making it a fun excursion for fans of the series. 8/10, hater's gonna hate, decide for yourselves and stop bashing EA for wanting to make money...all developers/publishers do that, its why they can keep making games. That this crap-heap of a game has so many positive reviews and has won awards proves that the video game review industry is a wholly owned subsidiary of the game development industry, and the latter has its lackeys employed in falsifying user reviews.

If you want a terrible single-player MMO designed by the B team from Blizzard, if you want endless fetch quests with crafting materials for rewards, if you want largely ineffective skills that hit like a wet noodle, if you want a game so dumbed down that it used a group of cocker spaniels as a focus group, if you want a game with no healing, if you want a single-player game balanced for an MMO grind wherein every MOB takes a year to kill, if you want to continue after dying in the middle of a dungeon with your whole party having 1 HP, if you want to support the continued desecration of the Bioware legacy at the hands of gaming's greatest mediocrity, then you might want to get Dragon Turd Inquisition. Then again, you probably won't like it unless you have brain damage, like the persons who developed this POS.

The game's major let down is it's healing and Health situation... or lack thereof. The mage has NO Heal spell to help you thru combat. This is needed if playing on hard or above hard. To make matters even worse, when your party dies and you need to reload, you may find yourself respawning with 5% Health for the whole party. This is potentially a game-breaking , broken feature because if you are far from a camp and a tent therein to heal your party by then you may find yourself actually having to RESTART with a brand new toon from the beginning if you become sick of being played by Bioware in this manner. I actually found myself in this situation. For me the game is just talk, talk and more too much talk. The Heal situation is frustrating and will have you wish to have the game's devs called to account. Also despite the hype we were overfed before launch, the game is not open world at all. It has the same boxed in maps as the last games just a little larger. I would avoid this game like the plague. Don't waste your money on a game that is made to frustrate. Perhaps if the devs actually played the frustrations they make they might be able to do something about avoiding them, but it takes actually trying your mistakes out first before any real change can be affected. One of the best games you will ever play… If you put in the work. And when I say work, I mean you have to feel for your character. In most games, your custom character is your avatar, a blank slate that allows you to interact with the world and be either insanely good or maniacally evil.

This is not the case in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Your character can have depth, doubts, a character arc, and all the things you would expect in a game where you're playing a pre-made hero. This means you need to take the time to pick a class, race, and sex you'll enjoy playing. It took me longer than expected to get a character that I felt comfortable with and looked good in cutscenes but, once I did, the Inquisitor became a living, breathing person in a way no other game like that has done before.

The reason I lead with this is because without an invested interest in your character, I can see a lot of the big story moments falling flat. I've spoken to multiple people who had played for several hours, trashed it, then went back and took the time to make a character they liked only to ended up loving it. I think the character creator, while very impressive, could certainly do a better job of letting you know how your character will look in the world. It seems like a small thing but you can't image how important it is.

It is true that the game feels smaller than you'd expect in the early going. The skill tree looks limited and the worlds feel small for a next-fen game. It isn't until a fairly large moment in the story and the selection of a specialty that you truly realize how massive this game is. And I like that. I actually thought for awhile that I had explored most everything and had a fairly powerful character only to realize that I was so so wrong. This feeling fits with your characters place in the world and lets you find a certain level of comfort in the early going before jumping into the madness that is the massive scope of this game.

In conclusion, this game is fantastic but it doesn't necessarily have the pick-up and playability of a Call of Duty or Shadows of Mordor. But the rewards for patient players are incredible.

Though they still sometimes occur, there is still the occasional issue with dialogue (solved by simply saving and reloading). You may want to wait for another patch--some abilities, actually a fair amount, simply do NOTHING and this is obviously a major flaw that should have been fixed far before release. It would be like playing a FPS where half of your guns are firing blanks and you don't know it. Great game, great story, great graphics. The characters are excellent and constantly shine in this game, and the replayability is through the roof--using Dragon Age Keep online, you can create different histories of the Warden that ended the Fifth Blight (DA: Origins) and Hawke (DA2). I definitely recommend this game, once that major flaw is fixed.

This is one of the few games I played that have story choices with major changes and consequences.

The graphics are vivid, not too dull nor bright, but just right. The combat is fluid and allows users to perform combos. The tactical menu is an amazing feature, allowing players to set up how their Inquisitor and his/her companions should attack stuff. It's not too grindy and it's a nice change from RPGs that force players to kill monsters endlessly in order to reach a certain goal, be it a level or a rare item.

There are a few grips however that brought down the score just a tiny bit. Obviously there will be glitches but there are certain game-breaking glitches as well. I really wanted to romance a certain character but a weird glitch prevented me from doing so, and I hadn't realized it was a game-breaking bug until I looked it up, many hours later. Also, after completing the story, there's this feeling that the game is hollow, empty and there isn't much to it anymore. Every companion I talk to doesn't have the conversation wheel anymore. Even more so, the companions themselves and some furniture disappear every once in a while. I don't know if this is a glitch, but good thing I have a save before the final fight.

Even with the glitches, it's still a must have for any RPG fan. This game, in my books, is also a GOTY contender.

Instead of giving us time-killing nothings to compete with juggernauts like Skyrim why don't you give us a competent storyline; something you haven't done since Mass Effect 2?

The one saving grace are the interesting characters that kept making come back and playing, they made me "FEEL" something.

Why, oh why, are there game-breaking bugs and crashes in this AAA game? What the hell do you think you're doing releasing a game earlier? Making a worse game.

The combat is dreary and repetitive, the number of abilities and customisation of said abilities is severely downgraded from the previous titles.

Unfortunately I couldn't make myself keep playing, and I've left it to fester within its case. Never again will I pay this much money for something that has disappointed me so very harshly. I've learned my lesson.

Shame on you, Bioware and your EA, putting money in your pockets and the pockets of "professional gaming reviewers".

You venture to different regions of a larger world, each strikingly unique. Once you're in a locale, you can do as much or as little as you want. There are minigames to complete, dragons to slay, and a host of tasks and collectibles. I spent over one hundred hours completing every task and scouring the map for every missing item and I still couldn't grab everything before confronting the final arc of the main story. Not that a completionist mentality is needed to attend to the final boss. The main narrative is only a fraction of the game. What the designer have done is bound the side quests to the over arching goal of influence and power for your organization. In doing so, the plethora quests (even the menial fetch quests) seem like part of your hero's journey to station as the Inquisitor. There are plenty of options when creating your hero as in any good RPG from this generation. As the story unfolds you gain new options and customizations to your abilities, to the way you can craft, and even to your home. All are useful, save the castle features which are purely for aesthetic. As you grow, so too do your interactions with your supporting cast. They each are fairly interesting characters with unique motivations. Thankfully, unlike DA2, their stories don't culminate in depressing outcomes. A nice touch is that many of your friends alter their environment as the story progresses. Solas' room is the most striking example. The one concern I had with the story was how heavily it was entrenched in DA2 dlc (which I never played because I'd given up on it after completion of the main game... thrice to see if there were different outcomes). Playing the dlc isn't required to get the point of who your enemy is. Still, based on the previews, I thought Morrigan and the events at the end of DA:O would be the counter to the mage/templar war. Cameos are well placed. The story itself was well came to a fulfilling conclusion and leaves room for the future. There's also a multiplayer that's no where near as complete and compelling as that of Mass Effect 3's. Still, it's easy to sink a few hours into the dungeon crawling without realizing it. You can also pay to get ahead, but I don't think you'd get much for your money and paying doesn't give you a distinct advantage over others. While you may not find too much replayability in the multiplayer, there's plenty of content in the campaign to keep you invested for hundreds of hours. For the first time since Mass Effect 2, I'm begging for DLC. Expand

DA2 with all of it's flaw (of which there are plenty) created a compelling hero and sped up the action. Inquisition is tremendous in scope. The world, unlike traditional sandbox games, is broken into several smaller, yet still impressively massive and dense landscapes. What's better is that each location feels different, rewards and encourages exploration, and takes hours to bring to completion. These locales are as much the story of DA:I as the central plot, changing as you make allies or conquer objectives. The narrative itself is fairly well written, but does hinge greatly on a piece of DA2 dlc that all but the truly enamored with Hawke as a character bothered attempting. Still, the story is supported with a compelling cast save for a Qunari who sounds oddly familiar. The narrative's pacing is good and progress as a hero and an institution feels earned. Some cameos are well placed and don't feel forced. There are many opportunities for customization; skill set, armor and weapons, mounts to ride, and even your fortress. Though, to be fair, the Skyhold choices are fairly limited and the larger irreversible ones are rare and have very limited effect. After 121 hours, the campaign completed, every dragon slain, and every task mastered; I'm not only satisfied, but impressed. There was much to enjoy in this outing and very little to complain about. Other that Freddy Prince Jr (he's the same character only with a slight refrain), the voice acting was excellent. The customization options for characters was ample. As always, the soundtrack was superb. Multiplayer is engaging for a time but becomes repetitive quickly and lacks the same level of enjoyment of ME3. Expand

It feels like Diablo but with a different visual viewpoint and with a party rather than solo. There's lots of dialogue but none of the quests or drama feels like it means anything at all. And the combat is not about much more than clicking X. In fact, just about every action is not about anything other than clicking X. YES I KNOW you CAN press other buttons, to execute alternate attacks based on skills you gain as you play, but you don't have to in order to win. That's the problem. All those extra attacks and spells are no more useful than a new pretty outfit in an MMO. They are unnecessary. No strategy required. Hold down X during a battle and run all around the battle zone. You might die a couple of times, but it won't take very long to win. In Skyrim I felt more like I was the character and that I was a part of the events happening around me. Discovery felt like discovery. Dragon Age; Inquisition feels extremely artificial. I can't even swim. Try to swim in the ocean and you hear a screaming sound (it's supposed to be your character; why would she scream in the water?) and then the game resets with you just next to the shore again. There are slopes that are not very challenging but for some reason you can't climb them. Small walls you inexplicably cannot climb over, even though any 7 year old in the real world could. So, basically, beautiful visuals, but the environments don't feel open world-ish. Instead I feel somewhat channeled artificially. There are tons of barrels and other things that you cannot open. They are just decoration. You can only open select ones. You cannot loot everyone you vanquish. Nonsensically their weapons and armor are not available to loot unless the game decides to give you something, and what it gives you is not really related to the animal or bandit you killed.

Ultimately, the game is fun in a mindless sort of way, kind of like a very elaborate Tetris. For a much more involving RPG try Skryim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Arena. The combat in Arena and Daggerfall is more interesting because as you wave your mouse around, your character waves his/her weapon, so you feel connected to the combat - no just hitting a single key. Arena is very old and has crappy graphics by today's standards, but it is gripping. I think it's free now and legally; just google it.

That being said, when put in the context of a game, it should involve a balance between action, that being the gameplay, and character, that being able to portray a protagonist one can connect with. Games like Skyrim and Dark Souls have, in many peoples’ eyes, perfected the gameplay aspect. Though they had enticing characters and stories, whether they achieved sympathy from players is debatable. Dragon Age, being a franchise of games that has had polarizing entries, has never really perfected both aforementioned sides in either of its earlier entries. Dragon Age: Origins had great strategic gameplay that was praised for being just that, yet it was criticized for being tedious at times. Dragon Age 2 tried to correct that with its fast-paced action, yet it was panned for being too repetitive – especially for its repetitive environment- and being too “button-mashy” in an attempt to cater to a wider audience. In terms of story and characters, though this being a personal opinion that would definitely find some opposition, Bioware always succeeds to draw the player in, even to a certain extent. Dragon Age: Inquisition is a game that tries hard to atone for the previous entries’ sins, and it does that quiet well through its enticing story, immersive game-play and varied missions.
A spoiler-free summary of the game would be that it revolves around your character being of customizable race (qunari, human, elf or dwarf) and gender waking up after a, literally, explosive event that only he or she has survived. With a glowing mark on his or her hand, your character slowly takes a place at a top of a newly re-instated faction whose main goal is to bring peace to a land plagued by conflict and civil war, while also trying to save the world from an imposing and glooming evil. Though the story at first glance may seem predictable, it becomes after a few hours and after the first major event twenty hours in that that is far from the truth, and that in actuality you have not even scratched the surface of what the game really is. The characters are so well written, each with a certain and unique personality, past and motives. Ever character seem realistic and alive. These characters have been alive way before the events of this games. Thus it is not hard to connect at a certain level with each and every one of your companions and advisors, or even the non-playable minor characters. Thus, the plot and its elements are as perfect as perfect can get despite some faults here and there.
The game-play, as stated earlier, is immersive as you explore greatly varied lands, battle a wide range of enemies, and make significant choices. The areas you get to explore, to be simply blunt, are huge. Even the smallest of areas has so many secrets and landmarks to find. Though there is no physical evidence of it, one can say that the size of the game when it comes to land that can be covered is comparable if not bigger than Skyrim. Each area in the game has specialized opponents to face, yes some can be encountered in several areas, but they never feel out of place and native to said areas. Furthermore, each type of enemy should be approached in a certain manner that would be more effective for defeating it, like ice attacks from mages for fire based enemies, or bash attacks from warriors for others. Of course it should be obvious that gameplay varies greatly from the class you’ve chosen, but do not fret as you can experience others by taking control of one of your four out of nine selected companions on missions. There is also a tactical view that involves pausing the game, positioning your party, and creating a well fleshed battle tactic in real-time if one would like to call it that. There is also a great crafting system that allows players to scavenge for resources and create equipment. The equipment is set in terms how much of one kind of said material is needed, as in four leathers, five metallic, and ten other metallic material. The material can be chosen by the player, which thus changes the color and attribute of the crafted armor or weapons. Moving one to choices, the player is always involved when interacting with other characters, and one’s options can have significant outcomes and even the most minute and seemingly irrelevant conversations. This seeps into how missions are carried out, even the most “side-questy” type. You are also allowed to analyze certain situations at the war table, and choose who is most fit to carry out resource and influence bearing missions for you and in what manner. And so, the gameplay all in all falls nothing short of keeping up excitement and inclusivity of the player.
In conclusion, Bioware has crafted a great RPG that is worth all the time and money that one would put into it, as it is always striving after player satisfaction when it comes to the game-play

Wow. This game overcame my greatest expectations. For the first hour or so of gameplay, it left me a bit confused, not because it's unclear or misguiding, but because there is SO much to do and so many new features to discover it literally makes your head spin at first. And that's a good thing. The game is very deep, unveils an amazing (and customizable) story line, has compelling characters, a vast and beautiful open world, rewarding combat system (it's the perfect mix of DA:O and DA2) and incredible next gen graphics.

One of the most interesting aspects is the same one I didn't really like at first; To continue the main quest chain, you have to unlock it by spending ''Power'' points you get by completing side quests and other open world tasks. What's great about it, is that it forces you to explore the world and see what the side quests have to offer. I usually stick to the story quests and go through a game in 15 hours or so and end up disappointed that it wasn't longer. With Inquisition, I finished my first playthrough after a whopping 60 hours of gameplay, and I didn't do all the sidequests.

Get the game, take your time to explore everything it has to offer and I promise you won't regret it.

There just too much too list on why and how great the game is but will say on my first playthrough I put in over 200 hours and still haven't completed or done everything game has to offer, now that's something you always want and should expect from any great RPG and there is also the coop multiplayer mode which to be honest is a lot better then I thought and really does have a lot to it but at end of the day I would have preferred they they took the time they put into a multiplayer mode and have put it into the storyline and storytelling of the game since that's what is more important and why people buy and play these type of games for. Also I would have prefered a true coop mode in the single player campaign mode itself that allowed others to join you on your campaign the way they always made it not these separate coop multiplayer modes that nowadays are made and thrown in as money grabs and not to actually better better the game or experience.

Only reasons I didn't give it a 10 was due to the storyline and storytelling not being on par with DAO but still good enough just not as great and due to some game design decisions like not having healing or blood magic class for what is obviously due to game design choices that they decided to go along with which at least with healing I bet was due to the new coop multiplayer mode and how they designed it to be played.
I won't even go deep into blood magic class but will say after allowing it for two titles and it perfectly working and fitting using lore as an excuse is just stupid and doesn't make sense on so many levels if you actually played both DAO and DA2 and that's all I will say on that.
The last hiccup and reason for me was not having storage chests after also having storage chest in both DAO with the Warden's Keep DLC and DA2 period you would think they would remember to add this one simple and important feature to any RPG nevermind RPGs that have any form of housing.

Aside from those minor dislikes still a masterpiece and great RPG and game at end of the day that can and will only get better and even more so if DLC for DAI is as plentiful and full of quality as DLC from past DA titles were. This game should be candidate for both 2014 game of the year and RPG of the year that's for sure.

Amazing game, a must buy for dragon age lovers! It truly delivers an action packed game play with a story that keeps you griped when start to finish. No more of the reused dragon age 2 areas those days are gone and behind them, they listened to the fans and produced a game so good I believe it is easily a contender for game of the year

I haven’t finished the game yet but invested a little more than 55 hours into it. So far every minute has been a blast :) !

The world is huge and offers a lot of variety. Actually the game often reminds me of a typical MMORPG like World of Warcraft, just without the other players. You have resources that needs to be collected to build new weapons or equipment, you have dungeons where you can find treasures and hideous monsters, different kind of mounts to quickly ride through the enormously large landscape, several races with different stories and of course different classes to choose from.
I wouldn’t be surprised if EA and BioWare use this game as a template to publish a real MMO in the future. I, for one, would definitely buy/subscribe it!

Even though the graphics might not be the very best for a next generation console, it’s really pretty and doesn’t need to hide behind the competition.
The zones are huge, show a lot of detail and offer a rich variety of animal life and plants. It’s impressive to see that the game doesn’t need to load when walking through a zone… even though they are really large. Even moving from one zone to another doesn’t result in a lot of loading time. Destiny’s loading times are far worse, for instance.

The sound is great, too. The music is wonderful and whenever I’m in combat, the sound effects are great and authentic.

The controls are tight and action oriented, which is absolutely fine by me. There is a tactical view but I prefer to fight in real time, giving the game a slight hack and slay character. I play on “hard” difficulty, which is manageable in the action view if you know your abilities and know what to do. I only switch to the tactical view when fighting dragons from time to time.

The story is great and entertaining. I personally liked the story of Dragon Age Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy better, but Dragon Age Inquisition is still doing a splendid job in sucking you into its story.
The only thing I sometimes find exhausting is that you kind of regularly “have to” talk to your party members and NPCs to get hidden quests or to gain other benefits. As I said, you are not forced to talk to them but I feel that you would be at a disadvantage if you don’t do your regular rounds and talk to each and every one of them.
This has been a BioWare issue from the first hour, though.

I do miss a kind of bank where I can deposit all the stuff that I don’t wanna carry around with me all the time. At the moment you either have to sell or salvage it.

Conclusion: Dragon Age Inquisition is a superb Action RPG with beautiful graphics, great sound and a gripping, well-told story! With 50 – 200 hours of unique gameplay (depends on the number of side quests you are doing), it’s hard to claim that the game is too expensive or that it doesn’t offer enough content for its price tag. Recently it received the Game Of The Year 2014 award and I can only share this sentiment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a step in the right direction for Bioware. They made a massive sprawling world with several unique locations to visit each substantial in size. A lot of new changes this time around in DA:I such as first time tactical camera for consoles, the War Room(Which is awesome by the way) you can go to the war table and complete operations and gain gold, materials, power, influence, etc, fights with high dragons(It's awesome), Skyhold your own base of operations- which you can upgrade and model to your liking, I made a mage so I use the mage throne with Tevinter Imperium decor giving Skyhold a very mage-like look it to it, etc. The combat in DA:I is quite fun as well u can have up to 4 people in your party you included and play as you like. There are 3 different classes and 4 different races in the game and each follower is unique and each has a special personality. The party options are literally endless, If you want to go 4 mage's you can do that or if you want to double up on your warrior's you can do that too. The dialogue and interactions between characters are superb. The writing is awesome in this game and the storyline is pretty good IMO at least even tho critics are saying it falls flat and maybe in some aspects it does at some points it does but overall pretty damn good. I mean *SPOILERS you get fight Corypheus the ancient Magister who started the blight how cool is that.* This game is open and endless I'm in over 100 hrs and there's still plenty to do. Play as you like in this game if you want to go full on strategy then use the tactical camera if you want to go more action oriented then you can do that too. This game is not without it's faults though. Some minor bugs/glitch such as audio bugs, character record screen freezing sometimes, followers go silent, etc but nothing too big. The tactical top-down camera can be iffy and annoying at times, set amount health potions plus no healing spells, lastly the thing that bothers me the most you can only access the spells/abilities mapped to your buttons on your controller no longer can yo access all your abilities in the radial menu. Overall Dragon Age Inquisition is a great rpg experience without outstanding writing and character development and awesome fun addicting game play. P.S. don't listen to the people saying this game is crap because it's not it's mostly people who haven't played it who are Bioware haters and are thinking this since EA is evil that Bioware must be too. It's a great game that will fill that great rpg void in your life and it doesn't deserve a 0 whatsoever. Expand

MULTIPLAYER! DA:I has multiplayer, similar to bioware's Mass Effect 3 multiplayer right down to the buying chests and the lobby system. But where ME3's multi was straight up horde mode, DA:I's multi is a dungeon crawl through semi-randomized dungeon segments that ends with a horde fight and boss.

So what is wrong with the game that it gets an 8 instead of a 10?
    - Well, there are no DRAGONS in multiplayer, yeah, a game called DRAGON AGE and you can't fight any dragon bosses in multiplayer.
    - Demon boss in multiplayer is ridiculously overpowered and can wipe a party in one hit that is almost un-dodgeable.
    - Multiplayer characters can only have FOUR spells equipped, compared to the EIGHT spells single player characters can access at once.
    - Screen tearing. It happens kind of frequently.
    - Horses are dumb and garbage, not nearly fast enough.
    - Some areas are stupidly huge and devoid of anything interesting in ~85% of the map (hissing wastes especially)
    - Partymember AI is dirt stupid and acts like it willfully disobeys your commands.
    - Iron bull, while a funny guy, dies so easily in combat it is ridiculous.
    - Crafting is limited by schematics you randomly find, and horned dudes cannot wear any hats, only ugly makeup which, as far as I know, cannot be crafted.
    - Weird bugs, like being launched into space after running up a rock and activating command mode, only to blast off when you deactivate it.

Really though, at release this is one of the best games out for the PS4, in a hailstorm of re-release cash grabs. If you are looking for a western RPG to play, you don't have much reason to skip this.

The story is boring, the quests are redundant, the companions have no personality except for maybe Dorian, Sera and Iron bull but you really don't care about any of them like you did in DA:O. I'm playing on a PS3 and the graphics are horrible. The characters all look too shiny. Controls go wonky at times like you hit one button for a spell and the map comes up. I've had the game crash about 3 times. There's something wrong with the sound as well, voices are speaking when the NPC is dead, music plays then stops, etc. I've also just killed a deer and he amazingly rose from the dead and is standing in a forest all frozen! The crafting system is tedious and too big, the character creation process is tedious and too big as well plus the hairstyles are horrible - how many bald headed and short-short haircuts do we have to have?? There's about 5 or so. Tactics system is gone and the new tactics camera is ridiculous. I do not want to have to micromanage every fight I have. There are no dwarves to speak of, no children, no funny townspeople, and even my hero is boring. I'm playing a mage and the way the camera angle is I can't even see what my companions are doing because I'm so far away. I can't even tell if my spells are hitting. If I get closer the enemies all come after me. The AI is inconsistent - I'll wipe out one group with ease then get killed with one-hit by an archer in the next! Very frustrating. The spells are weak, there are no healing spells, and potions can only be gotten in camps. You also have to run all over the place to find your companions in a town - not like Origins where they were all in your camp. This game is a perfect example of bigger is not always better. Expand

The sheer amount of things to do, explore and lore behind the series is almost too much - you just dont know where to begin! But once you get past that, it is ridiculously engrossing and enjoyable to play. I have really enjoyed the environments within the game, though not all connected as one huge open world, they are none the less huge within themselves. Everything looks nice and the attention to detail is quite impressive.

The storyline from my viewpoint is good, though I was a bit confused at the very beginning and did not understand how I came to have the powers that I had. Character creation is undoubtedly the most impressive thing I have ever seen - you can TRULY make your character yours....

The only negative things I have to say are that the character animations can be quite rigid at times and when your character jumps he looks like he/she is constipated.. and mine makes the weirdest sounds. I have also found, at least in my copy, that during cut scenes the camera focuses on background objects a lot of the time which leaves the character out of focus... aside from that, I really don't have anything bad to say. It could be contender for game of the year 2014.

IF you enjoy RPG's and want to spend days and days and days engrossed in a massive world with a lot to do - this is for you. It's a great game.
