i think it's time to move on and do a refresh or revamp of the doom franchise. doom 2016, eternal, tag1, and tag2 were all fun, but with tag1 and tag2, it's clear the developers are struggling to add new things that are interesting, entertaining, and inventive. time to wipe the slate clean, call it a day, and reset the franchise once again.

hopefully they keep the things that made

hopefully they keep the things that made eternal fun - weapon swapping, weapon combos, dashing around, enemy weakpoints, special grenades and skills, etc.

but hopefully they leave out questionable additions that certainly make the game harder, but not more fun - mauraders, blood makyrs, cursed prowlers, tentacles in swamps, fog, spirits, etc.

and it wouldn't hurt to have a story that just isn't doomguy standing menacingly while someone talks at him.

all in all, it's been fun. thanks for the good times, id software. see you in your next project.

I adored Doom Eternal and Ancient Gods part 1 but I was a bit disappointed with Part 2. I still had my fun with it but it feels like they toned the difficulty down for reasons I’m not sure why. The arenas are filled with fodder and less intense and there aren’t as many memorable demon combos like the other parts of this game. Also some of the enemies are unnecessarily nerfed. The art direction and various locations are fun to explore and the soundtrack is just as great as part 1 and I even enjoyed the story quite a bit even if it’s a little convoluted. The Meathook platforming was also a great addition. The arenas were lackluster and it pales in comparison to part 1 but I would be lying if I said I didn’t have fun with this and don’t get chills at the intro to the final battle. Expand

Best appreciated by Doom veterans, this is a ferociously challenging, fresh-feeling, satisfying end to Eternal. Brace yourself for more platforming, though. [Issue#1, p.82]

The Ancient Gods Part 2 is a good conclusion to DOOM Eternal, with some funny new features that will please the players.

id Software delivers a memorable conclusion to the Doom Slayer epic. By erasing the flaws of the previous expansion, Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods, Part II offers the most complete games of the series. The new enemies are integrated very well and create new well thought out challenges. Apart from its lifespan, which can be explained by its release model, this new content has nothing to envy to the base game and closes the saga of the Doom Slayer with panache.
