This is by far the best Disgaea game we’ve seen, and it is a strong contender to be the best tactics RPG ever created.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance has so much content it’s just at times amazingly overwhelming. The amount of quests to do is staggering.

Longtime Disgaea fans will want to get Disgaea 5 as soon as possible. It takes everything that has worked before and makes the gameplay better than ever. While the storyline isn’t all that amazing, it does have some excellent characters and Killia is a blast.

Sound issues notwithstanding, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is the first worthwhile exclusive for Japanese RPG fanatics on PS4. It has everything that made its predecessors great: a fast-paced, addictive battle system, an abundance of content and a cast of humorous characters.

In terms of game mechanics, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is possibly the strongest entry in the franchise. Almost every change it makes is for the better, and the core gameplay has been polished and refined in countless ways.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance manages to be the best game in NIS America's beloved series. Not only does it add additional complexity, it's also the most newcomer friendly entry.

Disgaea 5 is the best game in the series to date. I might prefer the story/characters in other games sure, but the game mechanics have never been more refined and fun to break.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is a tactical RPG deep and infinitely durable. The innovations made to gameplay, though not epochal, can give the right breath of fresh air to the brand. A great game for all fans of Japanese RPGs, and a good start for anyone who wants to approach the genre.

Few franchises can get away with feeling this similar from version to version, but Disgaea is just that deep, requiring you to understand and exploit character stats, equipment attributes, and class abilities at a level most modern RPGs have abandoned in the name of accessibility.

It may not have the same impact Disgaea 4 had, but it feels like a better game, and it's one of those very few Japanese franchises that continues to surprise us after many years.

So many strategy games bury players in stats and micromanagement, offering an impressive amount of depth but they’re presented with the same amount of lifelessness as an excel spreadsheet. Disgaea is okay with poking fun at itself, kicking back and having fun. It may not entirely excuse its problems, but we'll take a good time over a more technically proficient and ultimately less exciting game any day.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance adding new mechanics to the structure of the original series. A perfect game for anyone who enjoys a hardcore RPG that utilizes a good dose of sadistic humor.

Bigger in every feasible way when compared to previous series iterations. I’m not so sure it’s better in every way, though, as the sheer amount of content can feel either muddled or oppressive.

This is the Disgaea you know and love, but with a fresh coat of paint and enough new features to warrant another trip through the Netherworld, dood.

Disgaea 5 serves up a hearty helping of enjoyable tactical RPG combat, and lives up to the expectations established by its forerunners in the series.

It's a sound evolution for the series, but it maintains the tactical and complex gameplay that makes it so loved in its niche of players. From certain angles, it's also probably the best game in the series, even if there are still quite a bunch of things that could be perfected (most of all unit balancing and graphics).

While I didn’t really engage with the characters and narrative as much this time around, the action and sheer wealth of content more than made up for it.

Disgaea 5 is an excellent title for any gamer, but the interesting mechanics, impressive visuals, and expansive universe make it a must-play for tactical RPG enthusiasts.

There are simply so many things to do that I'm reminded of an MMO where players have to spend an hour getting ready for a 30-minute fight. As a result, I find myself only playing for an hour or two at a time now whereas I was playing for several hours in a row during the first half.

Maybe it is not the best iteration of the classic Tactic JRPG saga, but nevertheless Disgaea 5 it´s good enough and plenty of funny situations.

In the end, Disgaea 5 may not have evolved much from its glory days, but the latest entry proves that the tried-and-true mechanics still hold up, even if the aesthetics and characters remain somewhat antiquated. There is no other RPG that features this many options, which will undoubtedly win over the hardcore RPG crowd with far too much time on their hands.

Disgaea 5 is a Disgaea game for better or for worse. This means solid tactical combat, over-the-top attacks, and more game systems than you can shake a stick at. The cast isn't as good as Disgaea 4, but the game itself is undeniably bigger and more robust. Veterans will be happy and new players have a lot to digest. Prepare yourself.

The game and its numerous systems are a complete time sink that allows you to spend dozens of hours building your perfect character, and then tempt you to do it again a few more dozen times. Disgaea 5 is the biggest and most satisfying installment in the series to date, and It could easily be the last one you ever need to buy.

Disgaea 5 could have easily been one of the best games in the series if it wasn’t for the missteps in the post-game content, but even with those faults, the solid SRPG foundation along with a few exciting new tweaks/additions makes it a worthwhile experience all the same.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance implements some of the smartest choices the series has seen since its debut in 2003, making this not only the best Disgaea game to date, but one of the best Strategy-RPGs available.

Alliance of Vengeance may not have the best story or cast in the series, but it gets the job done, and brings a ton of advancements with it in the process. I'll probably be playing this one for years to come, and I sincerely hope NIS is able to continue this series. It's still one of the best SRPG franchises in the business.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is arguably the most complete package in the series. Despite an unnecessarily long campaign that's home to some surprising difficulty spikes, it's still an excellent strategy venture that will give you plenty of bang for your buck.

Another JRPG that, unfortunately, doesn't come in Spanish for those in need of it in order to enjoy the game. A characteristic sense of humour makes Disgaea 5 a good game, although it would probably benefit of an update of its visuals.

An enjoyable strategy RPG that refuses to become po-faced, Disgaea 5 is let-down only by a so-so narrative and an over-reliance on XP farming.

While Disgaea 5 definitely had me hooked once things got cooking, it's unfortunate that so much of the game is tucked away at the start. I understand not wanting to bombard newcomers with too many systems, but doling them out at a snail's pace over ten or so hours takes far too long, and runs the risk of alienating returning vets.

The least funny Disgaea yet, but arguably the best in terms of the actual gameplay – even if there is a lack of genuinely new ideas.

If you enjoy grinding numbers, goofy anime antics, and over-the-top style, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will give you hundreds of hours of replayability. If you don’t like the idea of spending hours and hours replaying levels and building up characters, then you might want to look somewhere else.

At its best, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is charming. At its worst, it’s very tedious. Unfortunately, its lack of flow and terrible voice acting really hurt any momentum the game picks up from the fun and rewarding parts of the game.

Disgaea 5 : Alliance of Vengeance is still a very good tactical-RPG. But maybe one day, Nippon Ichi Software will realize they need to bring something really new to each of their entries to make the IP moving forward. To be honest, this fifth installment is not that far from the very first, and it's not something to be proud of.

When it isn't being a frustrating game, Disgaea 5 can be a lot of fun. Once things slow down to grind, however, the story may be the only thing that will keep players going.

Give them a few days to fix the issue before you condemn the game to a bad rating.

For poorer folks like me who have very little money to go around Disgaea 5 is a godsend. With the wide selection of characters, and the numerous variations with classes, and the fact that they can all go to level 9999; this game lasts a very very long time. You never run out of places to battle either since the Item World randomly generates itself, with each randomly crafted stage providing a new selection of strategic ways to tackle it. It takes a while to get the basics down and expand on the overwhelmingly massive amount of selections to choose from but you'll have plenty of time to prefect your playstyle since this game can support itself for hundreds of hours. You can quite literally build your own army from scratch and use them to conquer every obstacle in your path. Customizing every aspect of each individual soldier along the way, from colors, to voices, to stats and weapons, there are an endless number of combinations for you to experiment with. For those willing to put in the time you'll find yourself beaming with pride at the army you've raised from rags to riches.

Like all Disgaea games, and with some improvements.

It has a revenge system which is similar to limit break system, and open up special moves just like Limit Breaks did for FF7.

Characters can now be promoted up in class without going though the reincarnation system that forced a reset in character level. I'm unsure if it was level, or a skill requirement, but when I met the requirement for my mage she promoted up from red to green in battle. The assembly is still an option along with reincarnation, but it's not a requirement anymore.

Unlocking new classes is a bit more straight forward. A quest system has been added, and it seems a bit trivial at first, but since it does give you quests that have the same requirements previous games had for unlocking a class you're not as dependent on prior knowledge, or on internet search skills.

Resident mechanics seem improved since now you have a way of banking them without juggling them accost items.

All in all it's everything you'd expect from Disgaea, with improvements.

One of the best Disgaea's out there, and has a lot of new features that will make you spend over 200+ hrs. Some of the new features are, you can send units to explore netherworlds to get items and prisoners, give classes a sub weapon, go beyond a characters natural evilities, an Innocent Farm that allows you to store and grow your innocents, and many more. Like many other Disgaea games out there, this one is focused on revenge, with a somewhat more mature story. Without spoiling the game, the story follows Killia and teammates on getting revenge on Lord Dark. I would say this is a must buy if you like tatical games that also require a little grinding.
