Even without the IP, Dex manages to be the absolute best Ghost in the Shell game we’ve ever gotten.

There really is a lot to like about Dex. A deft marriage of platforming, action and RPG elements, it struggles a little under the weight of its ambition but overall Dex proves itself as a formidably enticing effort that holds substantial charm for fans of all things cyberpunk.

Although a lot could be improved in Dex, nearly everything is good and solid. With the exception of the hacking, you'll have a lot of fun running and fighting your way across the map, even if you don't always know where you are and where you should be.

Uncovering the threads that connect the residents of Harbor Prime is a fascinating look into a flawed future, if you are willing to hack for it.

I ended up having a lot of fun with Dex, though playing it through at the same time that I was reviewing The Technomancer was a bit unfortunate for it. In belonging to the same narrative genre as a game that will be right up there with my favourites this year, Dex’s pulpy and limited narrative was disappointing. Thankfully, as an RPG/platformer, it still largely works, and will certainly help you kill off a rainy weekend or two.

Dex is a 2D RPG with a Cyberpunk style that will entertain the players that enjoy the futurist settings. Its open world and its charisma make a quite enjoyable game.

Dex: Enhanced Edition isn’t perfect. It’s a love letter to not only classic sci-fi but also classic 90’s RPG/adventure games. Where Dex falls short is the sum of its parts; so many gameplay elements have been incorporated in, but not one of them stand out as excellent.

Retro cyberpunk RPG platformer. Interesting idea and style, decent dubbing and music… but with gameplay it's been weaker. The technical issues also don’t help with playability. [Issue#266]

If you’re revisiting it on console or playing for the first time, Dex certainly have something to offer. It has a satisfactory – albeit derivative – story with a fairly strong script and it is mature in its approach. However, the static gameplay, technical issues and unbalanced experience frequently overshadow the attraction of the game.

There is an awesome world that has been built here, with so many interesting characters and areas to explore, but poorly thought out gameplay makes Dex a dull affair. Melee combat has no nuance to it, weapons control too poorly to be of any use most of the time, and hacking is repetitive and bland. There is real promise here in the world building and character development, but the terrible gameplay is too much to make up for.

Dreadlock ran their Kickstarter campaign quite well and right from the start they built a very different kind of game. The 2D scrolling is smooth and yet you can almost 'see' the 3D interaction with the things , in the places you visit and in the characters you meet or fight or "stealth" your way through the world of Dex. Check it out and become one with a quite interesting and a rewarding gaming experience. Full Review »

    Dex is a 2-D side-scrolling sci-fi RPG.

    Pros:
    * I was able to determine quite quickly that I didn't like Dex.
    * The beginning of the story seems intriguing. I wasn't motivated to play too far into the game, so I can't comment on how it evolves.
    * The skills seem interesting, I suppose.

    Cons:
    * The voice acting is awful.
    * The dialogue is awful.
    * The controls are unintuitive, and can't be re-mapped.
    * Sometimes, it looks like there's a floor to walk on when there really isn't, resulting in rather frustrating deaths.

I'm tired of the game after just a few hours. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone.

Despite those problems it makes me wanna be patient and keep playing. And suprisingly it rewards me with a nice RPG experience, great characters and methodical gameplay. So as long as it does that, the bugs doesn't bother me more then they are is triple A games like Ubisoft's games. I give it a 10 because I bought it for 5 bucks and man for that price is awesome! For 20 though that is it's main price is more like a 7. Full Review »
