Aug 5, 2020This remake of Destroy All Humans! is really quite incredible.
-
Jul 27, 2020With a strict adherence to the style and performance of the original game, Destroy All Humans! brings all the fun of 2005 (and the frustrations) of the original. This is a game that was fun 15 years ago, and that fun still holds up, only now it has a shiny new coat of paint. Though some cultural references are a bit wince-worthy and there are some ridiculous difficulty spikes, in general Destroy All Humans! is a rollicking good time.
-
Sep 5, 2020Another masterfully done remake from top to bottom. Jump into an aliens skin and reek havoc upon the humans with blasters and space saucers. New and old players should definitely look to picking this remake up.
-
Jul 28, 2020Destroy All Humans! keeps the best parts of its 2005 game in mind while rebooting the series with a short, but engaging story and addictive alien destruction.
-
Jul 28, 2020Destroy All Humans! remake is a great option if you are looking for a different action adventure title, and while it has its fair share of flaws, it can still be considered one of the most entertaining games currently available on the market.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans! is a rare example of a remake that changes just enough to maintain the essence of the original while improving the overall experience. The gameplay enhancements give this a more modern feel but it maintains the original story and visual style to appease those seeking a nostalgia fix. Destroy All Humans! was always a fun game though hasn’t aged all that well. This version revitalizes the title, changing just enough to make revisiting Area 42 a worthwhile invasion.
-
Jul 27, 2020Rather than completely re-imagining its core aspects, Black Forest Games has recreated the best portions of Destroy All Humans! for a modern audience. Aspects from the 2005 original that have been brought over hold up well, and the studio has introduced a handful of smart, but important, improvements.
-
Jul 27, 2020In some ways, Destroy All Humans! shows its age, being a remake of a game that's now 15 years old, in a genre that's grown a lot in those years. But it's also got a sense of humour and parody of American life that feels more relevant today than when the original game first came out. That's a depressing reflection on the state of the world today, but it also means that the satire that underpins everything else in the game hits harder than the original creators ever could have imagined.
-
Jul 27, 2020If you have not played the original Destroy All Humans, and the mindless destruction of the human race is appealing to you, the 2020 remaster is a must-play. While some of the gameplay fundamentals show their age, the fantastic dialogue and voice-over work, especially with Crypto and Orthopox, is entertaining, funny, and top-quality throughout.
-
Jul 27, 2020The remake of Destroy All Humans! brings back a little cult classic from the early thousands, with great respect for the original material, a shiny new engine and a couple of QOL improvements.
-
Aug 20, 2020A decent remaster. Despite some shortcomings it still is fun to join the destructive alien on his adventure, that not only appeals to a new audience, but to old Crypto-fans alike.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans’ impact on you is definitely going to depend on how much you played the original release. As a fan of the original, I was sat gleefully destroying all the humans and basking in the improvements, but I could also see people who haven’t played the 2005 release not quite “getting” it. For those in the same boat as me, it’s exactly what it needs to be: a faithful improvement on the original game, and an indication that Crypto has plenty of life in him yet. Hopefully it can pave the way for an all new adventure someday soon.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans is a faithful remake of a great action-adventure series from our past. It brings the series to a new generation while retaining its classic quirks and gameplay systems. In many ways, this works, but not without noticeable systems appearing dated. That said, I was happy to have the chance to get beamed up to invade Earth once more.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKAug 22, 2020Mission objectives are simplistic and the multiple sandbox maps are small by modern standards, but creative abuse of the game’s destructive weapons never fails to raise a smile. A welcome reinvasion. [Issue#179, p.70]
-
Aug 13, 2020Destroy All Humans! honor its past, and if you place yourself in your 2005-self, you'll have fun, but in the end, this game ends up not being a remake, but a relaunch with a nice visual skin.
-
Aug 4, 2020Destroy All Humans! is a remake that won't make much of an impact. While it feels like a modern title thanks to its gameplay and graphics, there are other elements that give its age away, as a title originally published in 2005.
-
Aug 4, 2020This is the kind of game you don’t realize you missed until you start playing it, one that doesn’t demand much of the player’s time or commitment or discipline but is just trying to find new ways to amuse you from one stage to another.
-
Aug 2, 2020Perhaps it isn't the most polished or modern game of 2020, but it's definitely one that I'll keep coming back to, and it's absolutely the best remake to come out of THQ Nordic yet.
-
Jul 30, 2020While I’m disappointed that the developers didn’t fix the original version’s upgrade system and challenges, Destroy All Humans still succeeds at most of what it attempts. It’s a silly, brutal trip through a nostalgic version of America’s past that excoriates the empty values the country claimed to stand for.
-
Jul 29, 2020The clunky controls, the camera control of the alien ship, the overcomplicated UI along with the already mentioned shortcomings are the heritage of a long-gone era. Destroy All Humans! to be considered truly a remake would have needed updated gameplay, not just graphics. Despite these issues, Destroy All Humans! keeps its charm and unique appeal. If you can overlook the obsolete mechanics and level design, the adventures of Crypto are actually fun. Thanks to the budget-friendly price tag, the game can be recommended to those who finished games like Maneater and are looking to a new dose of mayhem.
-
Jul 28, 2020Overall, this remake of Destroy All Humans is essentially the 2005 original with a fresh coat of paint and a few tweaks, and it carries over everything, warts and all. While there are definitely some frustrations in the gameplay mechanics, taken as a whole, the game holds up surprisingly well.
-
Jul 27, 2020Despite everything, the fun is still present and exploding buildings, disintegrating agents of the Majestic or extirpating the brains of humans still has its small effect, 15 years after the original.
-
Jul 27, 2020It remains an enjoyable and amusing title, capable of offering 8 hours of leisure amid hilarious clichés and sensational doses of lighthearted devastation.
-
Jul 27, 2020Kryptois back in this remake of the original 2005 game that still delivers a quite entertaining '50s old-gen TPS experience with an all new level and the predictable aesthetic lifting.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans! brings back all the mindless fun of this series of extraterrestrial action. It might not be the best-designed game out there, or the most graphically advanced... But how many games let you throw explosive cows with the power of your mind? Yep, just this one.
-
Jul 27, 2020The Destroy All Humans remake’s skeleton is geriatric in some respects. Repetitive audio, antiquated objective types, strict fail states, and repetitive audio are dead giveaways that this game is firmly planted in 2005 in detrimental ways that this remake did not address. But the overhauled control scheme and thoughtful new mechanics add a layer of muscle on top of that skeleton and keeps old age from breaking those bones down into dust.
-
Jul 27, 2020What Black Forest Games and THQ Nordic have achieved with the Destroy All Humans! remake is impressive. It certainly doesn't feel worlds away from the original, which is always a concern when there's a classic of this calibre being remade. Although some of the enhancements are a bit hit and miss, most do work really well, and can make you wonder how you coped without them in the original. It's clear that a great deal of effort has been put into enhancing what already was a stellar title, whilst also introducing it to a new audience. Players who have been dying to play as Crypto-137 once again will feel right at home when they're tasked, once more, to Destroy All Humans!
-
Jul 27, 2020I would recommend the remake to anyone with a nostalgic thirst for the original, but so, too, to those that like their laughs with a dark bite.
-
Aug 10, 2020Destroy All Humans is a fun game, there’s no doubt about it. A slick coat of paint and a control reconfiguration helps make the game feel fresh, but the bones of a fifteen-year-old game are everywhere, especially in mission design. In this sense, Destroy All Humans feels like an aberration in terms of gameplay and content. Franchise fans will find an enjoyable chaotic stroll down memory lane, but it might be a hard sell for anyone who hasn’t played the original.
-
Jul 27, 2020If you can put all of that aside or appreciate Destroy All Humans! in a state that is undoubtedly close to how it played back in the day, there is a lot of fun to be in the PS4 remake. The combat is responsive, colorful, and over the top, and it lends itself well to short bursts of entertaining chaos. The same goes for its saucer gameplay; blowing up tiny buildings is not going to get old anytime soon. The title hasn't aged well, but it still possesses a certain charm. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I think I've raised some fair points. If you know and love the original, this PS4 remake is a great way to revisit the game. If you haven't played the original, the DAH remake feels difficult to recommend on its own; the two originals, which were remastered on current consoles in 2016, might be a better way for newcomers to test the waters without paying a premium.
-
Aug 17, 2020The updated version of Destroy All Humans certainly looks a lot better than the original did on two-generation old hardware, but it really needed the gameplay to be updated as well. Artificial challenge created by horde-tactic mobs of enemies, a clunky skills and weapons system, repetitive gameplay, and claustrophobic open world levels all work against the graphics to really show the game's age. The game's premise still holds up today, so it's a shame that the gameplay was left stuck in the past.
-
Jul 27, 2020A mostly visual remake, Destroy All Humans brings a dubious cult classic onto modern consoles and PC with most of the same issues it had to begin with. It’s a clear example of lost potential as the original game was never all that well regarded. Thoroughly reworking the gameplay could have vastly improved the game that was only passable in its time. As it is now, the remake doesn’t do enough to lift the title from mediocrity. Aside from updated visuals, the one new mission, and slightly tweaked gameplay, it’s a game that still doesn’t have much going for it besides the comedy factor. Though the remake is definitely the definitive way to play Destroy All Humans!, I still find it difficult to really recommend it.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans! is a respectable clone of the 2005 original, featuring impressive visuals and moments of explosive fun, but painfully-dated writing and some frustrating missions bring the game back down to earth. Destroy All Humans! is like a pristine 4K Blu-ray re-release of a campy cult movie – a certain niche audience will appreciate the effort, but many may question the point.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans is a faithful remake that retains the charm of the 2005 original, while dramatically overhauling the visuals and making some improvements to the gameplay. Perhaps a bit too faithful, with missions that now feel too simple and limited to the point of just being a bit boring.
-
Jul 27, 2020Destroy All Humans is a good attempt to bring back the cult classic in 2020, but it misses the mark in a few key areas. While there are some nice improvements to the core gameplay, they don't do enough to rescue the old fashioned mission design and difficulty spikes. It's a shame, because there's some fun to be found here -- you just have to put up with quite a lot of PS2 era baggage. Fans will be delighted, but this remake is hardly out of this world.
-
Jul 27, 2020For players who remember and enjoyed the original Destroy All Humans! from Pandemic Studios, this new remake from THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games will be exactly what they are looking for. However, players who aren't tinged with nostalgia (or people who take issue with occasional dropped frames and progression bugs) may have a somewhat different experience.
-
Jul 30, 2020The entire concept will still bring a smile to your face, especially when you consider the drastically improved graphics. The game is severely outdated, though, which is mostly noticeable when you're actually playing it. This could - and perhaps should - have been better.
-
Jul 27, 2020This remaster has been the sort of letdown that’s made me reconsider if anything from my childhood was as good as I remember. Atrocious character models, excessively repetitive missions, framerate drops, pop-in issues, and an overbearing sense of monotony and boredom cursed my time with Destroy All Humans. You did it, Crypto. You destroyed this human.
-
Jul 27, 2020If you played Destroy All Humans! when it originally released and have some nostalgia for it then this might be worth playing but for the rest of us, this is a game that should have stayed locked away in Area 51.
-
Jul 27, 2020Fans have been clamouring for the return of Crypto for some time and Destroy All Humans for PS4 is their chance to relive the bygone PS2 era and relive those ill-tempered, extra-terrestrial antics from fifteen years ago. The remake looks great but unfortunately, THQ Nordic’s 2020 effort introduces more issues than it solves; keeping repetitive audio while adding in lengthy loading times, performance issues and poorly implemented gameplay updates. For the one small step of increased graphical fidelity, this version takes one giant leap back for overall quality.
