It's been 6 years since Destiny came out. Back then, the trailer flashed me straight away.
The fact that the content of the trailer was only fully available a year later and the graphics were worse as promised is a reason for the new rating for me. A lot had been promised but little had been kept.

A promising game to drive the looter shooter genre to greater heights following the success of Borderlands 2. Unfortunately, it failed miserably. Nice paywall. Boring grind. Just a bad gaming experience.

So far biggest disappointment of the year for me. Lvl 15 titan and that's it, no more interest to play the game anymore. Boring as hell, story is bad, missions are very repetitive, looting is weak, PvP is terrible and overall lack of content. Graphics are great and so is the music, but that alone doesn't make the game good.

I cannot return the "game" to Gamestop as it is open. Now I have a $40 coaster.
During my troubleshooting I saw others have similar issues where it does not work on their home-Internet-connection, but at a neighbor it works. Other had to change their DNS-servers to make it work ... and so on. Needless to say, I tried all of those suggestions as well - to no avail.
What game needs tweaking with DNS-servers to make it work??? I only see issues like that with crappy written/ implemented software at my job.
Save your money (and time of troubleshooting) and don't spend it on this junk (I would rather call it "time waster" and not "game").

My main reaction to this game is the frustration of seeing how much missed potential there is for the franchise. There is so much more that Bungie can be doing with Destiny, and I was hoping they'd hit the nail on some of them with D2, but alas it's not the case. It's like no one at Bungie plays any MMOs that have really well designed customization and progression systems.

Then Bungie began making it nigh impossible to be a solo player. Deej kept insisting they'd continue to support the solo experience for a very long time. Well, he's just a damn show pony and a flat out liar. The tide shifted for me when Taken King came out and Eververse was introduced. I've never been so disgusted in my life. I could not believe I spent $150 on this farce. I really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this was the last straw. People will pay for good content. Resorting to microtransactions just shows how incapable Bungie is of doing that. So, they add a gate for content which forces you to get DLC. Otherwise your character is essentially useless.
I don't know what happened to Bungie (Activision?) but Destiny completely changed my outlook on games. I am now very cynical. I used to be happy go lucky and optimistic, but nowadays companies have to earn my money. I take very little on faith anymore.
People quitting or being fired before release should have been a huge red flag.
Their incompetence on having to rely on out of game assets to do things is also appalling.
All of this is a damn shame, because Destiny was really fun to play.

Within a day of the release, people could already tell that the lack of character development, plot, story arc, or anything other than a mindlessly repetitive grind-fest. The AI is made of dumb bullet sponges, and the spawn enemies and spawn points were exactly the same every time... no matter how many times a new quest required you to play through the same tired levels (expect dozens or hundreds of times for some maps). Bosses are just larger and/or take more bullets to kill. No real change in strategy anywhere. The online multiplayer and coop have no matchmaking... so prepare to find groups offline.

I've never been more disappointed in a game that promised so much. And after the subsequent DLC rendered vanilla destiny unplayable... I kind lost any respect I have for Bungie and Activision who were previously my two favorite developers. It sets a terrible precedent for game making that you can massively under-deliver and coast on pre-orders, then pull content out from underneath the day one adopters unless they continue to buy up. This is my last pre-order, and the last game from either of these developers.

The reason for all of this is simple. I paid $60 for a game that I beat in 9 hours and was left with nothing to do end game except running the same boring quests over and over again or jumping into PVP. PVP was extremely lopsided in favor of particular classes and particular weapons with no genuine healing class. The game was marketed as a sci-fi World Of Warcraft shooter with an "immersive" world to explore and rich story lines. First off I will say that the idea and direction they were going in was great in my opinion. The whole concept of the plot was new and invigorating, however the game simply did not deliver the world to gamers in a great way. The opening intro gets you very excited for the possibilities in the game, but then a few hours into it you realize there is hardly a story to the game. Rather there is just an overall goal: Protect the "city" that you never actually go to, but just get to see from the top of the game's social hub "The Tower." You don't even understand what your are truly protecting, and the story offers no interesting elements or twists to spice the game up. The good news is that you quickly learn it isn't the story that you play the game for. The game while advertised as a shared open world shooter and an RPG, is also in many ways an MMO, as it includes large, comprehensive raids and strikes. You can only do them once a week if you hope to get a reward however, leaving players waiting until the Tuesday "weekly reset" to do anything productive. The base game is very dry and has no depth whatsoever. The only good aspect of it is the only raid offered in the game pre add on: The Vault of Glass. It is incredibly fun, and difficult, and requires great teamwork to complete. The rest of the game however lacks in enjoyment. The multiplayer is fun if you are a Hunter with an exotic hand cannon, as Bungie has a hard time creating any balance at all without making all the weapons completely terrible. Same goes for the class specific "supers" as hunters dominated the scene with their offensive oriented supers. The DLCs have plenty of content, however that comes with a high price and little of the content in the first expansion Crota's End" was any good. The raid was a significant downgrade, as most of it could be BSed and was not complex or unique in any way. The House of Wolves brought in Prison of Elders where you fought hordes of enemies at a time plus a boss in the end in an effort to obtain terrible looking armor and useless weapons. The Trials of Osiris however were absolutely great. Every weekend this incredibly fun, challenging multiplayer mode allowed for a great competitive feature that rewarded great play with beautiful weapons and armor that you could actually use. The game is based around grinding out certain modes to obtain weapons in a random drop reward system. Meaning you do the same thing over and over every week to get a pistol. You put a lot of hours into this game, and when your character finally is a maxed out super soldier Bungie decides to release a DLC called The Taken King which makes all the things you've obtained absolutely worthless and makes everyone start from scratch. Now after this I stopped playing out of frustration so I cannot give an educated review of King's Fall. However I would caution people from playing this game as it is simply repetitive, shallow, storyless, and vanilla and offers no value, not even the graphics are impressive. Expand

The constant use and abuse of the games player base by Bungie and Activision is frankly distressing to see, and I hope this does not become the standard for video games in the future. DLC and Expansions effectively invalidating existing weaponry (which has been altered with a lazy fix) and content as well as a stream of new content that adds little in the way of story or gameplay development makes Destiny an experience that is not only overwhelmingly tedious, but also puts a major dent in your wallet if you wish to continue playing the game. Questlines are repetitive and dull, whilst weapons feel like fairly generic Bungie sci-fi fare. Nothing in this game offers anything in the way of inventive design.

Whilst multiplayer combat is somewhat engaging, narrow game mode options and raids that feel all to similar prevent this game being something one can return to or put a great many hours into unless those you play with are particularly fun or interesting to be around, and if they are, for gods sake do them a favor and stop them from buying this game.

Destiny seems to make an effort to squirrel away it's lore on an external website, which is a shame because it may well be interesting enough to add some level of depth to what ultimately feels like a very 'surface-level' experience, which is to say the game evolves little beyond what you could pick up on immediately whilst watching another play. That said, the game is very pretty to look at, and the graphical quality is certainly something worth praising, despite the fact it dresses up a fairly poor game.

This graphical prowess is ill-utilised by bland, poorly structured cutscenes and environments that have better sky-boxes than they do contents. In raids you can enjoy a series of drab grey corridors and generic sci-fi industrial structures that the game tries to divert attention away from using brightly colored lasers and enemies which, unfortunately, are as unintriguing in design as they are overused. Bosses feel like larger stronger versions of base enemies. Despite efforts to improve this in recent DLCs, enemies still feel dull. It is worth mentioning, however, that the soundtrack, whilst standard Bungie fare by this point, is actually quite compelling and well written, helping to create some sense of mood which the world unfortunately fails to generate or compliment.

Combine these issues with a community comprised mainly of pre-teen to early-teenage boys who are quick to hurl insult and you end up with an uniteresting, vapid experience. Teenage fanboys are quick to jump to the games defense and label people haters, but this ultimately shows the indefensibility of the game, you cannot rebut many of the criticisms hurled at this game because they are, more often than not, accurate.

All in all, Destiny is an unintelligent, repetitive mess of a game, with solid shooting and pretty graphics being the only redeeming features of this shallow exercise in boredom. Over-hyped but ultimately sub-standard, steer clear if you value your time.

At every single turn the game halts your progress with artificial gameplay extensions like limits on money, incredibly low drop rates for everything, and requiring ridiculously high amounts of resources for upgrades. This game takes many MMO RPG elements and puts them in a 1st person shooter, but doesn't even do the bare minimum of the required small things like, party finder, raid groups control, a competent way to pick where to start when people have started on the raid already, and the same goes for strikes also. There is no real teamwork besides don't die, there are no clever mechanics besides shoot the damage sponge, (unless you do the raid but like I said good luck even getting 5 other players that are at your skill level), level design is just wave defense non-stop. There are no real customization or re-customization options. No trading, no real path to earning specific gear it's all random, outdated engine, connection issues, no story, full of microtransactions, not to mention they ripped content out of the game to sell it back to us for twice the price so a game that was at one point complete and full was $60 and now is chopped up and nonsensical and costs $120. What a shame for a game that I hoped would be amazing but now is deleted off my hard drive. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me preface this all by saying I love the grind and generally don't care for FPS games as I'm only decent, not stellar at them.
For people that are on the fence and thinking about getting into this game as I was a month ago do not waste the money but more importantly the time. This is my first review I've ever written and I'm 29, thats how strongly I felt about this game. The amount of time required to get any of the good stuff in the game is truly prodigious. Its the same stuff over and over and even with the fix of the massive loot drop system problems, which seemed either amateur-ish or ill intended, you get the same terrible things over and over and over. Rare engrams drop a common item 98% of the time, which really drives home the point that I'm wasting my time playing.
DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYBODY who tells you its possible to beat this game and its various challenges, or raids without a strike-team of 6, which do not provide matchmaking. I got to a light level of 291 and I still wasn't able to beat a mission that had a light level requirement of 260 that not even a friend of mine with a light level 305 and I put together could beat. All that effort would be for 5 motes of light, an item you get in lieu of xp at certain level cap, hooray.
Theres a tacked on collectibles sidequest component during strike and raid missions so being a jerk and running off is a requirement in this game, thumbs down.
The behavioral RNG thing is a factor here as well. Translation, this game requires an addictive personality to enjoy and continue playing. That's not a good thing.

People who say the graphics are great must require glasses. The lighting effects and amount of things moving around in the environment are the only thing remotely next-gen about this game. The clouds are ridiculously off theme and seems like they don't belong. Otherwise lots of loading between areas, wow; tons and tons of clipping(I have a ps4, which has the good frame rate of the systems), but sound is nice...
The derth of content means you realize the game's limitations in one hour of play. Running around and shooting stuff in the head is awesome and fun for a few days but since theres not much of a story at all with a ton of questions and lots and lots of things vaguely referenced and never fleshed out, the compulsive addicting aspect becomes requisite almost immediately.
PVP is also a requirement of the game of the game to get decent gear, no matter what I'm not ever gonna beat the 12 year olds who don't do sports or activities and thus have a ton of free time. My 30 some year old friend has played countless hours and again, has a light level only 15 or so above my own.
All in all this is completely in my humble opinion of course. What do I know but what I like and what I absolutely abhor. Obviously Destiny and all of its terrible offspring are in the latter category and should be drowned in public to the worldwide cheers of spectators that have tuned in for the demise and eventual fading of the memory of Destiny

While I thought the gameplay was solid, that was about it. The leveling system, the simple rehashing of enemies, the lack of a system to find other people for "raids," and simply doing the same "missions" over and over again became tiresome. I've heard rumors that there was something approaching a story in Destiny -- that seems false.

In a MMORPG the most important thing, (imo) is content and community which Destiny failes to deliver, It is alot of grinding:
    *Run here
    *Defend this
    *Kill that
*If someone dies run away and wait for respawn.

So instead of dunping your money in this game go play Warframe, cause it's the same thing but better and free.

The technical side of it is pretty much flawless. Beautiful environments, great music, and some of the best controls I've ever seen. Exactly what you'd expect from the creative minds behind the Halo series.
What really hurt Destiny was Activision's greed. In order to make more money, Bungie was forced to gut the game and remove a significant amount of content to be sold as future DLC. What's left logically feels incomplete. The story barely makes sense, and many plot points are never resolved. Every single character is shallow and underdeveloped. What's their story? What is their goal? The game never tells you.But it's okay, pay $50 more and you may get a continuation of the story in the latest 'Taken King' DLC. I'm sure you'll love it, especially if you're like me and you already spent over $100 on the base game (I pre-ordered the Guardian Edition, which came with the first two DLCs for "free").

There's plenty of missions, but they're all very repetitive and boring. Collect a certain number of items, kill some enemies, protect your little A.I. companion... and that's about it, really. If you ever hope to get any better gear, you'll be repeating these missions over and over and over again until you're absolutely sick of them. The endless grind doesn't feel rewarding or even remotely fun - and this is coming from a person who's spent the past 10 years playing World of Warcraft.

As far as multiplayer goes, you can do the boring missions in a group of three players. But really, why would you even bother? There are also drop-in/drop-out public events. You're in the middle of one of your boring missions when suddenly a massive tank appears from the sky, and you and any other player nearby need to work together to destroy it.

Then there are 3-player strikes (it's like WoW's dungeons), and these are actually quite fun. There's a handy player finder tool, so if none of your friends play Destiny, the game will hook you up with two more players. Some of them are pretty bad, though, and more than once did I have a player tagging along doing nothing or simply sitting in a corner, while the remaining two of us did all the hard work. You can report these slackers, but there seems to be no penalty for this behavior whatsoever.

Destiny also has raids, which are basically strikes with larger fireteams and tougher enemies. Unfortunately, there is no player finder for these. You are forced to go to various websites and find your raid team there. It's inconvenient, and the number one reason why I've never done any raids. They're supposed to be fun, but I'll never know unless Bungie adds a player finder.

PvP was Destiny's biggest selling point, and it seems to be the focus of its developers, seeing how pretty much every single event they've introduced since launch was all about PvP (the only exception was The Queen's Wrath). If you're like me and prefer PvE over PvP, you'll find this rather disappointing. If you love PvP, add 2 more points to my rating. Bungie is constantly tweaking weapons and trying to make PvP more balanced, so that's good, I suppose.

And that's Destiny - the game that promised to be the next Halo, but bigger and better in every way. It could've been good if Bungie was allowed to do their work without Activision's interference. As it is now, it just feels like a desperate money grab. Despite all this, Destiny seems to boast an active fan base (if the official Destiny Facebook page is anything to go by), so the game obviously isn't all that bad. Just really, really flawed.

If you're interested and you'd like to give it a shot, I recommend you wait for a few months until the game gets cheaper, or ideally wait for some sort of an "ultimate" edition, which will inevitably come out and which will contain all the DLCs for a few bucks.

I gave this game one hell of a chance. I've played it from January 2015 till last Friday and now I give up. I give up on trying to convince myself and others that this game is as good as i wanted it to be. It's not. It just isn't that good at all.

The story takes the concept of repetition to a whole new level. Referring to it as a story is also being pretty generous. The npc's are flatter than a run-over hedgehog, the story is given little to no depth, it really is "go there, shoot those dudes. Then go there and shoot those dudes, wash, rinse, repeat."

PVP was entertaining but didn't really stand out among other PVP shooters.

When i think back over the hours i spent on this game, i find myself regretful. But what really makes the regret sting is that i spent money on DLC that brought so much promise but delivered so little. House of Wolves really only offered a new wave game (prison of elders) and some semi entertaining bounties and Dark Below did similar but with a new raid (Crota's End).
It struck me as very odd that there was matchmaking for certain strikes but not the raids. This meant having to try and gather friends or convince random players to do the raids with you.
The social side of things was rather weak. You could only really chat to people once they'd agreed to join you in a fire team.

The most crushing disappointment with regards this game was that a few months after shelling out £30 for both dlcs, Bungie brought out update 2.0, a prelude to the release of their new DLC, Taken King.

This update removed all but one strike level, took away easily 50% of the story content (paid DLC content included) 2 major parts of PVP and the ability to select which pvp game types you play.

Basically, they took my money, and i can go f*** myself. Nothing in the news about the coming update mentioned the loss of content. The destiny youtube community that had been given a taster of Taken King had mentioned nothing of the loss of content. I only found out the moment the update had finished (about 12 hours after it had started!).

I can only assume this was meant to make me hungry for Taken King but it's had the opposite effect. It's made me sick of it.

Bungie and Activision took a tandem dump on me. I've learnt my lesson, don't buy their **** anymore. I hope you don't either.

    Be well folks.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As you can tell from the score, Destiny wins the award for "Big Poo Sandwich" for worst game of 2014. The game is very bland. The formula never changes from "go here, shoot these things for some reason." The story was an abhorrence to the entire game, and it rather brought the whole game down for me. The story didn't really exist. It was just an excuse for people to shoot things. Even Tyrion Lannister could not save this game from being a bland shooter. The only thing the game to do to mix things up is put it in another brown and gray environment, which gets boring after the first million aliens. This game lasted as long in my house than Pixels did when the Oscars were considering whether or not to nominate it, and I'm guessing it lasted as long on the shelf at the store than Larry King has ever breathed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game while I think is great in many ways just falls short of what it was trying to be. This game tries to be a FPSMMO. While I think the gun play and mechanics are amazing for a shooter. This game falls short terribly on the MMO portion. The backstory and story itself is completely non existent. Some of the story you can get to by going outside the game itself to read on Bungie's website. The exotic weapons all have a story outside of the game where you can read about the weapons and stories with them. Why not include that in game to add to the immersion and excitement of getting a weapon. Playing through the campaign is saddening. It's the same exact thing over and over again. Deploy your ghost and defend him from the countless waves of enemies. In the story itself you feel no connection at all to the guardian you are playing or the city and Traveler you are defending. There are not enough cinematic story telling cut scenes either to keep you awed throughout your experience in game. Even in the raids in this game you don't feel as if a story is being told while you are progressing through the raid itself. There is no in game match making or in game chat besides randomly messaging people on PSN that you see in game but with typical MMO ethics that is not a good practice to do. In order to find a group for something you must once again leave the game and go to either Destinytracker, PlanetDestiny, or Reddit to find groups for raids and other end game activities. PvP is the only thing that is keeping this game alive for me. But even that has its drawbacks with the constant one shot barrage of ranged shotguns out there. Expand

I've put 100s of hours into Halo, Halo:Reach, and Battlefield 4. I also put 4-5 years into World of Warcraft. I know games. I know when I'm playing a good game or when I'm playing a bad game. If anyone was excited for this game, I was. I mean the marriage of the two gaming genres I've played my entire life. An MMOFPSRPG!? I was all in on this game.

But here's the problem with Destiny:
I've put 100s of hours into Halo, Halo:Reach, and Battlefield 4. I also put 4-5 years into World of Warcraft. I know games. I know when I'm playing a good game or when I'm playing a bad game. If anyone was excited for this game, I was. I mean the marriage of the two gaming genres I've played my entire life. An MMOFPSRPG!? I was all in on this game.

But here's the problem with Destiny: it is actually 2 games. I'll explain.

    1) Early progression. When you first start playing the game it is a great experience. Leveling your class, collecting awesome new weapons and items, first unlocking your super, getting your first sparrow and killing your first strike boss. The beginning stages of this game are great. It's a very fun experience. Gameplay is great. Gun play is perfect, but once gameplay kind of sets in you start to realize where this game has flaws.

    2) Max Level - when you hit level 20, it's like you hit a wall. You are forced to play the same strikes over and over again for a chance at a better piece of gear. And in these strikes, there's no way to kick anyone from the party so now a days people will just sit there while you have to do all the work. No really, they will just sit at the beginning part of the instance and you have to run on and do it all.

When you hit this wall, you also realize how completely embarrassing the story was. I mean horrible. One of the worst stories of any game I've ever played. Just embarrassing coming from Bungie. None of the characters even have a name....seriously. I still to this day don't know a single character's name from the base game.

The raid was probably the most fun I've had in this game. I beat the raid multiple times, so I wasn't one of those people who didn't push through to get to level 30. I actually hit 30. I played WoW for years. I'm used to the grind, but WoW actually has good lore and story compared to this. Gameplay is EXTREMELY important in a game, but when you also have an amazing story and lore it's a perfect combination. Destiny has great gameplay, but I didn't care about what I was doing in the PVE because the story was so awful. It's like you're told, "Alright, you're the good guy, now go shoot the baddies because they want to kill that orb over there." Besides this there is no context.

Then once I hit level 30, all the controversies started to come out: Reddit, figuring out they had cut content prior to the game being released (people glitched into them), lead writer and lead music composer had been fired or let go or quit. All these things started to weigh down on me because of what this game COULD have been. All of my friends feel the same way as I do about this game. My friends were so disappointed and hurt by bungie and Destiny that they sold their ps4 completely. They just couldn't over come the disappointment, false advertising, and trust that Bungie completely broke with their fans.

The longer I write this review, the lower I click the score because honestly, this game cut me deep. I was really looking forward to this game from Bungie and I find it to be one of the most disappointing games of all time. Don't buy this game. Activision and Bungie need to be taught a lesson.

This game could have been great but then came the dlc and then more dlc and more. Then the partnerships with other companies. To top it all off the story was once much better than the repetitive crap that is in the game now.
Bungie, I expected greater from you.
Activision, stop ruining games to maximize profits.

Absolute disappointment. The gameplay is really the only thing that's here, theirs no story, and within the first few hours the gameplay becomes tedious as all you do is grind. Nothing of what they promised and implied would be in the game is in it. if your looking for that its probably a 0/10, if you look at it as a game that didn't promise that, its a 4/10.

Destiny is by far the biggest disappointment of a game ever seen. Not only was the game false advertised, but it was stripped from the potential it could have had just so they could make more profits from it. Yes, this means the game is a money vacuum. The game with the expansion pass costs like 80$ or 100$, but you only get two expansions from the pass that cost 20$ each if you don't have the pass. Then, the future DLCs that are NOT included with the expansion pass cost a whopping 40$! The entire game with all DLCs bought costs HUNDREDS of dollars all of which are wasted by how much of a failure this game is. The game is not innovative at all and is filled with the most bland and repetitive game play. There is hardly any story at all whatsoever, the loot system is 100% RNG (random number generator), and is hardly acceptable as a MMO. There are huge and painful limits as to how many players can do a mission. Now to the weapons (sorry if you don't understand this). The weapons in this game are a creative idea, but all the creativity is lost when you find out that the higher level weapons are just re-skins of the lower level ones. Also, the exotics in the game are the hardest weapons to get which means they should be OP, but people kept complaining at how OP they were so they got nerfed and are rendered useless. People claim the game is getting better with the DLCs that are being released, but it really just adds to the repetitive mess of doing the same thing over and over and over again 1000 time sin one week. Over all, the game is an absolute effortless waste of time and money. I personally spent a lot of time on this game looking for something good about it, but I couldn't find anything. Not it's just collecting dust. Expand

Bungie loses head writer and other staff during development, game's directions seems to change. Game is released at $60 with two $20 planned expansions (lolz). The two expansions have been recolors of old enemies, old missions revamped, absolutely nothing new save a couple of maps and weapons. Now, they want $40 for the latest expansion that I already didn't plan on buying?

One major complaint of mine is that they increased the strike difficulty for solo players, and with the way the RNG based loot is dolled out is unbelievably unfair, and so it wasn't worth it to me to try and find a strike team of strangers, because the chance at a good reward just isn't good enough. It used to be fun for me to run the nightfall solo, but Bungie essentially took away the game I bought and was having fun with, and for what, so I might force my friends buy the game so they can run the strike with me? When one hears stories from people who have played the strikes and raids every single week since release, who STILL haven't got the loot they want (usually the gallarhorn) it really hits me that you can go through all that effort and struggle for nothing?

If you are a solo gamer don't get this game, there is nothing for you except an extremely weak story that only takes a few hours to play through, and then you are on a pointless and frustratingly random loot treadmill. And their attitude towards their fans really sucks, right now the issue is they want fans to rebuy content they already own if they want the new emotes, but they have always had an arrogant attitude of "you will play this game the way we want to you to play". Yeah I'm probably still a little salty about how Bungie basically said get with a group or GTFO of our game, with regards to running the nightfall solo, and this was back long before they finally implemented matchmaking for even the weekly strike. I suppose I should thank them for lifting my veil of addiction, I won't be spending my money at their casino anymore!

This is every mission in the game, as well as every strike mission. There is no story whatsoever, and the only way to learn more about the world and what's going on is to turn off your game, go bungies website, and read some cards of info that are unlocked by playing the game. Not only is this a cheap device to get people to play more, but it breaks immersion completely, which makes the music and the beauty of the game pointless. There's 4 groups of enemies in the game, and each group has different kinds of enemies. There are no unique enemies besides the bosses, and those are actually just larger, slightly different looking versions of one of the normal enemies. The loot system is completely broken, and in such a way that you must play for days just to find a better item. There are 3 categories of weapon; Primary, Secondary, and heavy weapons. Primary weapons consist of rifles, and pistols. There are only 3 kinds of secondary weapons, and only 2 kinds of heavy weapons. Because of the multiplayer battles, the best weapons are eventually nerfed, making them nothing special. When I find a really nice gun, I don't feel good about getting it, because I know it took no skill. I could have just been weighing my team down, and still got the weapon. Bungie and Activision sold us a game that was incomplete, expecting us to pay for expansions to complete the game. I will never buy another game from Activision because of this game. It's the last straw for me. None of this is even the worst about the game. Bungie released videos of story and interaction between the player and other characters. None of this exists in final game. This is LYING. Expand

Other $60 games I've pre-ordered are Dragon Age: Inquisition and Witcher 3, and while they're certainly different types of games (so maybe it's unfair to compare them), I have a hard time ignoring how easy it is for me to disparage Destiny's overall consumer value in light of such worthwhile games. If you haven't already bought the DLC packs, I urge you to stay away. Don't allow this to be the norm. End game content expects you grind through it's already repetitive content so you can play more repetitive content not to mention you'll need to hook up with other reluctant players because of bungie's refusal to basic cooperative features like matchmaking.

I actually don't mind repetitive content if it's good but here it's only mediocre here and the longer you play it's mediocrity only gets exponentially worse. On top of that this game's main focus is it's loot, but with such horrible weapon variety the urge to keep playing is not there at all. There is no story in the game if you care about that sort of thing, you have to look up the story online somewhere (I'm not kidding).

I started playing FPS games back in Duke Nukem, followed by unreal, halo, tribes, call of duty and so on. Been around a LONG time playing these types of games. Was never the greatest at any of them but enjoyed them all. That brings me to this disaster.

This is the single biggest disaster I have ever played on ANY platform. First time in my life I wish I could return a game. I always figure that not everything is for everybody so if I bought a game and didn't like it, I would just move on. Until this garbage.....

This trash is nothing but frustration and confusion with a side of anger. No walk through to actually tell you what's going on. Storyline is well... I don't know what the story is. Gameplay consists of wandering around trying to figure out what the heck your suppose to do and some shooting at things for reasons I have yet to understand. No clue what the objectives are, how to level, how to progress or any understanding what the point of this "game" is.

If you are unfortunate enough to buy this garbage, try and find a HUGE guide to help you. I have played for a few hours and literally have no clue how or why to do a single thing. News flash for devs... Confusion is not fun and games are suppose to be fun. A guide should be used as a reference not as a step by step instruction on what to do and that's what you need to figure this out. Complete failure of a game.

I'm sure that once you figure this out that is ok but to play (feels like work) for hours and to still have no clue about ANYTHING? Well that's just a failure by the devs.

On another note, I went on their website to get help and their website is as awful as their game. Couldn't find any help what so ever! They don't even give you a way to contact them. No working email or anything. It's like they new they were putting out a game that was going to ANGER the FPS community and they didn't want to have to deal with it.

Best review I can give is..... Incomplete. I can't effectively review a game that I can't figure out. Complete failure! I'm offended I spent money on this and if I had the option I would return it with a smile and never look back. Never felt like this with any game in my long life.

Yet it felt like there was less content in this game than a Sega Genesis game! The story is so bare bones that I don't give a **** about any character, even Peter Dinklage's performance feels like a waste. Nothing is explained, you're just revived and here go fight these aliens without an explanation whatsoever. From what I've heard, the main writer for the story got fired 6 months before release and they had to scrap the story and start over, no wonder the story sucks.

The graphics don't feel or look much better than PS3, they're just average.

The levels are the worst aspect about the game, I heard it was supposed to be an open world MMO FPS RPG, you just drop to the same spot in the same level every time and fight the same enemies every time. The enemies are beyond boring and bland. The back drops are boring, lifeless, and bland. Every mission is the same mission, just defend your little guide from hords, that's it.

There is so little content in this game that it makes it so boring, I have never played such a boring game in my life and I've played some boring titles.

In addition to being boring and bland, there is one other problem I have with the game, the loading, there is so much loading. Your ship is the loading screen no less, which is so BS because it gives me the idea that the developers missed a GOLDEN opportunity to have space battles.

The whole game just screams laziness, and that's the worst part, $500 million for a budget and this game is more boring, bland, disappointing, and irritating than an Adam Sandler movie! It just goes to show that graphics, big budget, AAA doesn't mean JACK! The fact that this game supposedly won over 100 awards is just an outright LIE!

A good game has a clear and engaging story, good controls, engaging not too repetitive gameplay (core gameplay can be repetitive, but it's the story, level, or mission that can make the gameplay fun and enjoyable), good characters that you care about (REAL missed an opportunity here, the fact the game is an mmo is just SO boring, and that you can't get AI party members at all to join if you don't have friends or don't make friends, it would've made the game so much more enjoyable at least like Mass Effect), graphics at this point is just icing on the cake if they're good or charming (like Minecraft charming).

This game could have had so much more! It lacks so much, yet has the balls to be full price for what feels like an unfinished rushed title.

Oh, it's published by Activision, that explains a whole lot now...

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
