Is a very monotonous game, it has great music and world detail, but no more. The story is compelling but not enough to compensate for the immense boredom.

I really enjoy the idea of "bringing people together," the complexity of the story, and a different type of enemy and gaming experience. But that is about all I enjoy about it. I was extremely excited to play and the story seems pretty original. However, the menu difficulty and the lack of explaination of what things do and why youre doing it makes me completely disregard the idea of playing

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kojima messed up this time. Even the spoilers on the discord before were much more fun and reasonable than the actual game.
    1. The game has a strong personal style of Kojima, perhaps he would like to control 100% of those characters’ performance, but this only leads to a result, that actors' understanding of the role are not the same as what they behaved.
    2. There's a huge gulf between the game-playing and the story plot. For a long time, it’s almost like "You can be rewarded to play as long as you've done your chores", rewarding some story after a dull (or not, depending on whether you likes to be packhorse or not) play.
    3. What the game was told, is a totally catastrophe, or say, this game has almost no narrative at all. All stories are told by everyone’s "Sam, you need to know this", even about the characters themselves! All the characters, Fragile, Deadman, Mama, Heartman and DieHard Man. Can you imagine a victim dictating her own tragic past? This is stupid.
    4. Character building is also terrible, which is the consequence of poor storytelling. All the characters dictate to the player what they are, and with too many unnecessary settings (like Deadman being a Cyborg, so what?) , it shows that Kojima is trying to instill in the player "what's the character like" Without leaving any space. Oh and besiedes, even the main theme is connection, there is no connection between most of the characters each other. They are just connecting to Sam.
    5. Comparing to others, Sam, however, is not shown much in this game. Too little characterization of Sam, and the lack of describing the relationship between Sam and Emilie throughout the story, leads to a serious discrepancy between Emilie's character and the player's understanding, and so at the climax of the game, I, and many of my friends are baffled by the act we must do to continue this game, by hugging Emilie.
    6. The main story of the game does not exist any choice, with awful characterization lead to an unconvincing end. This makes the game itself like a movie, a one-sided absorption with no way of feedback. A lot of people think Kojima should make a movie for this game, but given those conditions above, the game's narrative skills are so poor that it will turn into a horrible slapstick play.
    7. The world design is cool, and nothing else. There are too many settings are just for settings. In the game, many of the settings are even phenomenal, with no mention of the essence at all. It doesn't mean anything except, wow, this is cool.
    8. With Western-like scene and characters, yet the story is still, after all, a Japanese-style family drama. The grand design is only for a small story, and I have to say I felt wasteful.
    9. A game that makes you think about pain should not be done by making the reader or player experience pain. I'm talking about the beach walk at the end of the game.
There may be more, but due to my terrible English it’s too difficult to complain.

There is a lot of effort and a lack of sense of a good game. There are flaws that make you simply hate the game and honestly quite a few things simply to smooth the hate coming from ex Kojima's fanboys.

Death Stranding is not a game. It is meant to be a movie, maybe a good one for some audience. Guys, just don't waste your time on it, it doesn't worth it at all.

Death Stranding is a very pretty game, using the Decima Engine from famed Horizon Zero Dawn development studio Guerilla Games. It's a very large uninhabited world to explore.

The game has very talented actors putting on amazing performances. And the animation to go with those performances is quite incredible.

Now, true to form Kojima crafts a story, as he's generally good at doing and it twists and turns your brain in a really incomprehensible way as a man that has no conception of the afterlife tried to explain what the afterlife might be. This, is the games strength as it should be, but it doesn't carry the same weight as Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. But,bits a valiant effort to do so.

Where the game struggles, for me anyway, is in the gameplay department. There are gamers that quite enjoy the open-world setting that Kojima and his team have created, but in my opinion, Kojimas forte is certainly his story telling. I think Kojima is best served to sticking with linear gameplay to tell his stories and open world games are not hear suited for his talent.

For me, Death Stranding felt like the team at Kojima Productions had no regard for the value of my time, that it was like some suck joke to make you wander around and then look at the time and realize you just lost three hours of your life. I was hesitant to play the game because I'd heard it was basically a walking simulator and I didn't want Kojimas reputation tainted in my mind. Metal Gear Solid V had already shaken my faith and I didn't want anymore damage done, but as I played the game, it took me forever to get through it and it felt like Kojimas team just thought it would he funny to make people work their way around the map slowly. Everything feels like it takes forever and Kojima Productions punishes you for not being patient and playing the game by their rules The only other reason I can think of, is that they were really pressured by Sony to get a game done and they had to slap something empty together and this is what came up. They also knew gamers wanted a lengthy experience to "get their moneys worth" and ultimately this is what we got.

The game feels so lacking and Kojimas potential wasted. In my humble opinion, games like Skyrim and, believe it or not, to this point, Days Gone know how to do open world right. Death Stranding misses the mark and was better served as a linear story based driven game. It's too bad.

Sony now has an attempt to try and do things right with a disappointing recent set of games, given their reputation in years past and especially on the PS3 where they'd proven they know first-party developers and how to get them to produce, with the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima where, fortunately, developer Sucker Punch knows how to do open world with their previous series Infamous. Too bad Kojima Productions Don't do another open world game, please, MGSV and Death Stranding didn't work. And I think I'm starting to see where Konami was getting frustrated with Kojima and his ego, his name is plastered all over everything, multiple times. I'm getting the feeling he doesn't know the meaning of the word humility. I think that's what frustrated Konami. Proof is in the credits of his last two games. Rather than bundling everything together, he lists didn't title cards for each part of how he contributed to the game, it's pretty messed up, also during photo mode, the title tag bears his name..... Sorry is good, gameplay is not, the gameplay drags on so long, you forget the story along with how frustrating the climbing can be with unresponsive controls. Too bad, I wanted this to be great, I waited so long but, it wasn't.....

    - Walkabout by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Pretty much sums up this game. The marketing for this game is atrocious; it makes it seem like there is more than long and boring walks throughout a beautiful but plain world. Two out of place combat sections (one of which is the second trailer) are terrible also and are short. If the gameplay was better with these and there were WAY more of them then this game could have been good. I would say that this review is spoilerific, but I don't even know what the game is about AFTER playing/watching THE WHOLE THING (I played up until Chapter 4 when I realized it wasn't going to get better, then I watched Jacksepticeye's series for the rest (which is very entertaining, unlike the game itself)). The game feels like nonsense, just a lot of sci-fi words to confuse the audience into thinking the game is "art". With all of the great games on Playstation (Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Last of Us Part 2 (had flaws but the gameplay was phenomenal), etc.), don't choose this one unless you have nothing else left. I wish that Kojima put in super-powers or something ridiculous; the map is too big for its own good, it takes forever to go anywhere. I'm mostly left with a sad feeling that we will never get a great game that the earlier trailers hinted at (although all of them are still in the game). One stand-out though is Lea Seydoux as Fragile; I would love to see her in another AAA PlayStation game in another main role. Because of the acting and graphics, I have to rate this game something, but I urge you to stay away.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Reflection on the game. Premise, I played It with hard settings. Guys, let's face it. The setting, the music, the graphic quality (it doesn't even click to pay for it), the idea of the game, the storyline; all these things are fantastic. Planning the trip is very nice and delivering gives satisfaction, especially for the big plan behind it of course. But what's the bloody reason for having MULI or CA so damn "empty"? Why not add a bigger challenge component to travel and planning? Like "will I get away with all those MULES?" or "let's hope I don't get CA this time". But no, MULES are just dummies to throw puppets at and there's no stealth gameplay done right, and the CA, the CA... total disappointment the CA. They don't even catch you doing it on purpose, and if, out of frustration, you choose to get caught to feel some kind of emotion, you find yourself expecting a boss that calling him blind and with the reactivity of a Baobab would be reductive. Please try to give up the role of kojima fan (which I appreciate, eh!!) and think objectively for a minute. That's a serious shortcoming. A more accurate AI would have made the game extraordinary, imagine riskier trips, where really the organization of the trip would have counted and actually moved the success or failure of the delivery. It would have been a dream to play it. I do not complain about the long deliveries, menus, huge cut scenes, the combat system or the many other things on which many people hate (right or wrong you decide it). I complain about the lack of IA, we are in 2019 for **** sake. I complain that there is absolutely no difficulty in making deliveries. According to the trailers, it wasn't exactly clear what it was about and I decided to discover more about this game by buying it myself. Unfortunately, I regret it. After about a month of release, I bought the game and played it for about 10 hours and then stopped because I wasn't enjoying it. I hid the game and let the dust crawl on it for years. After a couple of years, I decided to give it another go and this time to the end. Ladies and gentlemen. I've never been more bored with a game than I am here. I've enjoyed some bad games. Mafia III was repetitive crap, but the gameplay was fine. Wolfenstein: Youngblood, which I thought was the worst AAA game to date, at least the gameplay was entertaining. These bad games may have had bad story, repetitive gameplay, but it was action packed and I was quite entertained. Unfortunately, I can't say that about Death Stranding. The gameplay in this game is an unmitigated disaster in my opinion. Repetitive and so boring to boot. The constant walking and delivering packages felt like a side quest. I found it so annoying. Walking long distances and over and over again. Later on in the game you get attacked every now and then, so you have to protect your cargo. You would think that this would make the game more action packed and better, but unfortunately for me the opposite was true. It was all the more annoying because someone was constantly destroying my cargo, delaying me from completing my shipment. Just awful. Playing this game was something terrible for me. It's not helped by the fact that the game tries to be realistic and thus the bigger the load, the more challenging it is to carry, so tripping and then falling was a classic for me after a while. In short, I've never experienced worse gameplay in a AAA title. On the one hand, I admit that this is an original approach. I've never seen anything like it before. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to experience something like this again and I didn't like it. So trying something new here didn't work for me. I'll stick with originality for a while. I grumble a lot about the gameplay here, because I think that's the biggest stumbling block in this game. Other things are better, though. The idea of linking the chiral network with the fact that other players can help you and build you things in the world is a cool idea in my opinion. I've used their builds a few times to make the game easier, or maybe I could deliver a package to someone who didn't finish it. This is where the originality worked out in my opinion and I liked this feature thing. Another thing is the graphics. In a word, wow. Very nice. The characters in particular looked really very good, which enhanced the overall cinematicness of the game. There's another thing that ties into that. Cut-scenes. They look absolutely brilliant. The camera work, the aforementioned graphics. They look very cinematic and very good. I'm going to pick up the story. In a word, WTF. I almost have no idea what I was playing. For me it was pretty **** but on the one hand it was pretty original. Mainly, I think it's that cinematicness and storyline that pulls the whole game together. The cutscenes look gorgeous, the story I sadly didn't get and the graphics look fabulous. ONLY, ALL OF THIS IS OVERSHADOWED BY THE REPETITIVE GAMEPLAY, WHICH IS SO INCREDIBLY ANNOYING, BORING AND ACTUALLY SO POINTLESS BECAUSE YOU MOSTLY JUST WALK AROUND IN IT. Every now and then you'll get a bossfight, which were good, but by the end I was getting quite annoyed and found them repetitive, or every now and then you'll go with a vehicle, like a motorbike, which I didn't find very easy to control anyway. I could swear a lot more here, but I think I've said enough. In my opinion, Death Stranding should have been a movie or rather a series that we would just watch. For example, towards the end of the game it was so incredibly drawn out and pretty much all you watch here are cut-scenes, which of course look great as I mentioned. But then the cutscene ends and it's your turn as the player, and I think that's terrible. Even the music that played here and there didn't save the feeling of the constant repetition of delivering packages and besides, the music could have played a lot more in my opinion. If this had been a series, I think it would have turned out much better. This game definitely deserves a few points for the aforementioned bravura cut-scenes, very nice graphics and originality, which unfortunately as far as gameplay is concerned, I think has been very detrimental. It depends on one side what you want. If you're not exactly a game enthusiast, but rather looking for a proper story, you might like Death Stranding, if you can understand it. But if you prefer gameplay, as I do, I recommend you avoid Death Stranding. Games can provide excellent stories, but they can also be fun gameplay-wise. I'm talking about Naughty Dog or CDPR, for example. Expand

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
