It's just a walking simulator made to watch cutscenes full of convoluted mumbo jumbo

You come home from work, boot up the game and get thrown into this package delivery gameplay on an empty world. You are constantly delivering packages, you get upgrades that let you carry more packages, you also get a bike that has a 4 minute battery, which considering how far you have to haul packages is barely worth it unless you get materials to build a generator (you can only build if you are in the chiral network, otherwise no power) and then you unlock bodily fluid grenades. You get ads right in your face when your character is in their private room, going to the bathroom forces you to see "Ride with Norman Reedus on AMC", water is apparently BAD so you only drink Monster Energy (I dont think I have ever seen this blatant advertisement in an actual game).
As for gameplay, its as casual as it gets, and I mean it literally. You go from point A to point B to delivery stuff, if you somehow get caught by BT, you can easily shake them off and leave the black water, I actually tested and just allowed them to tackle me down, the only thing that happened was all the packages fell, you get dragged around into a bigger black water area where a huge monster appears, and then guess what? You just walk away to the grass and everything vanishes. The bosses are just as easy, there is absolutely zero challenge.
The vast open world just feels barren and annoying to travel through since its nothing but rocks and irregular terrain that forces you to spam jump or run around.
The graphics arent that good either, Crysis is more than ten years old and looks just as good.
The music is alright but abruptly stops the moment you step into any building.
I wont comment on the story because honestly, after 7 hours, I didnt understand even half of it, none of it made sense and the characters that were introduced felt like they were written by a fifteen year old that decided to write fanfiction, for example, Deadman is well acquainted with the dead hence his name, Fragile is "Fragile, but not that fragile", there's very few actual characters that you encounter in the game and none of them cause any impact, it would be equally as impactful if they were replaced by the dozens of holograms you will encounter during your deliveries.
Overall this feels like a huge fever dream that somehow got materialized, I would not recommend this at all.

As I like even meditative games I’ve only managed to play 20+ hours. Rdr2 is not fast too but at least you have some scenario there and you always can find something entertaining...
I really tried to deal with Death Stranding but I gave up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kojima and his team were very ambitious with Death Stranding. The ambitiousness of this game is the only reason why I haven't given this a 0/10. Unfortunately unique concepts and my innate desire to support passion projects don't outweigh my value of time, this game completely disregards any semblance of value for their players' time. Death Stranding is said to be more than 50 hours long and according to many it does improve over time . . . But I am only 5 hours in and will not be continuing. The gameplay is grindy, repetitive and slow, it is like being stuck in an infinite fetch quest. And this may get better over time when other players add structures and resources but for me, it was exceedingly frustrating. The combat is basic and repetitive, it's a simplistic button mash followed by running once overwhelmed cycle. The dialogue reads like a 13 year old's HP fanfic (I watched a scene later on which has Mads say 'There's rain falling from my eyes', really?!). The vehicles are janky and at times difficult to control. To those that argue that the reviewers have not given it a fair chance because we simply have not played enough, if it takes more than 10 hours for a game to become bearable then that game has ultimately failed.

The opening of this game is arguably the second biggest obstacle for players after the blatant disrespect of our time. The amount of cutscenes could never be justified in the first place but ultimately, and I think this will be extremely apparent to people who regularly consume arts and media that are narrative-focused, Death Stranding uses so many words to say exceedingly little.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere and cutscreens look really nice, but unfortunately that the only good thing I can say about it. The dialog is way too melodramatic, and the gameplay is repetitive.

-Tedious and boring gameplay. -Empty open world. -Main quests and sidequests are the same over and over and over again.
-"Combat" is also repetitive, uninspiring. The AI is non existant even playing in Hard with the same recycled animation. -Dialogue is also repetitive. The exposition is all over the place repeating same things over and over. The only mildly nteresting is the story and it

There is a reason Fast Travel is a popular option in many open-world games, even ones that are filled to the brim with content around their worlds and with interesting ways to traverse them. The intricacies in the gameplay while making deliveries does make it more engaging than the "walking simulator" many are accusing DS to be. Still, these vaguely aspects involved in the traversal simply aren't interesting enough to justify sitting through a mediocre and unskippable 8 hour passion project, film student-esque movie made by the ego-inflated hack that is Kojima. DS fails to cater to any specific audience by trying to implement way too little of way too much.

To those who are holding out hope and believe they will enjoy it because they want a "comfy uwu" game should most certainly reconsider their definition of comfy.

After 20h walking around, i can say It's boring. When I started to play I spent 1h without using my PS4 control because I had to see a movie in which you don,t even get what everything is about. I'm playing it in "hard" difficult but I haven't died yet.
    Conclusion: Boring and easy.
    Recommendation: Watch a movie.

If this is is medium to show what he can do with writing/directing movies, he's failed horribly. The biggest part of this salt-lick is I paid $60 for this mess. Utter walking simulator and terrible mechanics, waste of money. More cutscenes than actual gameplay too. This should've been a TV series not a game... also Story is totally messed up and it seems as if only Kojima in his head is the only 1 that understands it

The game has nice graphics, but terrible bugs, the character falls all the time, gets stucked in little rocks. if you go against the big rocks, you can go through them like a hologram. Mini bosses are harmless, if you keep stand in the same place they will go eventually. Basicaly the AI SUCKS. Veeeeeery large cinematics. MONSTER ENERGY had to pay a lot of

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
