Before I bought this game, I saw negative reviews and I criticized streamers, hit up forums, asked dozens of questions. Said I wasn't going to buy this game.

I then went and bought it and I love it, my favourite game this year. It's true that it may not be for everyone, but try it for yourself, because I find the gameplay engrossing.

So everyone has been talking bout Death Stranding lately and i gotta say, the game is of course not for everyone, but thats what makes it special by itself, get your popcorn a soda and get comfortable cause this is going to be like a little bit long article.

First of all the game is so damn amazing, i consider my third fav videogame of this gem. Ok so my arguments of why im saying that.

First of all the game is so damn amazing, i consider my third fav videogame of this gem. Ok so my arguments of why im saying that. The gameplay its unique by its own terms, other Walking simulators are just that, walking an watching and see an story that you may like or not. But Kojima and his whole team took that "Walking" concept and made it evolve in a way that no one could even imagine it, maintining the balance of the character with the triggers is something that maybe no one would ever think about, the weight of what youre carrying all your way to the delivery point affects on this. All the amount of details make funny something that looks boring, dont know how, de but it does it. Now, there are fire weapons on the game and i gotta say this fire system is bad design that it feels satisfactory to kill a mule or a BT, but it feels clunky, and the same with the driving system, holy moly i can only remember a game with so bad driving like GTAIV or Watchdogs (yeah, it feels that bad). But even with those mistakes i kinda love it.

Now, is the story good? Hell yeah i like it so far, im already halfway through the game and i gotta say it, i hate MGS cause its so confusing like KH (im not even a Kojima fan tho). But Death Stranding's storytelling its so memorable for its character and its own way to tell the story that you may be remembering the adventure for so long. BB is the most cuttest thing ive seen this generation, i really love how the game builds this relationship between Sam, BB, The Player, and the other side characters, and obviously, the villain.

Graphically talking the game was a **** surprise to me, i was expecting good graphics but not like this. My God the art an the designs, every stetic part of the game if beatifully directed that it makes you feel like the protagonist.

Well that was my opinion about the last Kojima Game, im loving it so far. Srry if my english is not so good, and thanks for reading:3

I've been playing this game for more than 30 hours and I can't understand why there are so many people with hate for this game. I don't want to do Spoilers but my perception is that the game is a mix of different genres, the story is amazing, it's very long and very addictive.

Flawless graphics, great storyline, and a very original game. I don’t understand some of the hate the game gets. Do people have that little an attention span? It’s not perfect, but it’s very close.

Amazing, anyone with half of a brain will love what Kojima tried to do here, the haters giving low rates are just that, haters, people who have brains that only allow them to play Fortnite! =/

The story, the art design, and my GOD the soundtrack are all ASTOUNDING.

My only real complaint is that even on the hardest difficulty the game is way too easy, the combat in its entirety is really not great. I feel the best way to playthrough this game is to avoid it entirely, which sits well within the games lore. Running from BTs and stealthing through sections even though reasonability blasting through it and fighting would be much 'easier' makes for better gameplay.

I havr played about 3/4 of the story and absolutely loved it, the aesthetic, atmosphere, and story are all excellent. It leaves me asking enough questions to want to continue playing and is exactly what I expected from Kojima. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay is fair, my only complaint is the repetitive cutscenes that play every time you enter a specific type of combat/sneaking section.

I think that the game ia not for everyone, because its a paced game and you discover the story slowly as you play. The BTs are amazing enemies and give chills sometimes.
The construction of the map is amazing, mainly when you até delivering goods or free roam.
The pace is very good for the timing that the game delivers.

First of all, I finished the game, so I have a full perspective of it.

There are a lot of things to talk about, but the most important question is: Is it fun? And the answer is: Yes, it is fun.

But to really enjoy this game, you have to give something yourself. This world, this story will open for you, only if you let it. You have to pay attention, without imaginig yourself to this world, without your attention, you may feel that this game is boring, just because you did not experienced a fast paced, action filled segment in the first hours.

It is slow at first, yes. I would say that the first 20 or so hours are part of the tutorial, in which you are introduced to the core mechanics of the game, the settings, the world, and a few characters. The first 3 chapter is about building the atmosphere, exploring this vast new world filled with danger and sadness. But it's not boring, it's just not the usual. In the first 3 chapter you will meet with BT's, and the human enemies but they are there only for introduction, a warning of what will come. But even in these slow chapters there are difficulties. Although there are only a few deadly hazards, the point of these chapters in terms of gameplay are to teach you, how you will be able to get from point A to point B later in the harder missions, and in terms of story it only serves as a basic starting point, where you will meet the main characters. So, in two words: it's about world building.

Then, at chapter 4 things will change and while you will still have a lot of questions (more than ever), there you can finally see, that this game is more, than meets the eye.

About the gameplay: You make deliveries, that is true. But it's not a walking simulator, that is a lie. As the game and story progress, the gameplay will be more and more fun. First you don't have anything, you walk until you reach your destination. Then - as more and more cities, and people join you, and the network you are building - you will have an ever expanding invertory and knowledge. With almost every city you'll get something new: slowy you begin to build up your arsenal: machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, grenades, and trust me, you will need them. But it's not only about weapons. You will have the chance, to build different structures, that will help other players in their struggles. You can build shelters, which will protect you and others from the "Timefall", a type of rain, that will fasten time on everything it touches, you can build generators for your vehicles, or your exoskeleton, bridges across rivers and many more things, that I do not want to spoil. So even the walking will be fun with this kind of equipment, and the feeling that you help others, and you will always know when you helped someone, because the game will inform you.
But there are enemies, and boss fights too, so the gameplay is not really just about delivering. They will be more and more dangerous as you make progress, but you will have new and new methods of defeating them. BT's will be around you lot's of times, and you will be ambushed by humans too. You can fight back, you can stealth, or you can run. Choose wisely in the given situation. I heard from a lot of sources that the boss fights just didn't do justice to them. Well, for me they were almost always fun, not because the level of difficulty but because the atmosphere and story aspects of them.

So after all this, this is what I can say about the pacing: It's slow at first, but not boring. Then it picks up the story, and you start to care about the things that are happening. It becomes more and more complex in terms of gameplay and gamer choices in a given situation. Slowly the enemies are becoming more dangerous, and then, at the last 4 chapters it's all guns blazing, every detail comes into it's place, bosses are coming one after another, and in one last delivery at the end, your soul will be crushed.

About the story: It's complex, well thought out, original and very sad. It's not problem if you don't understand it first. You won't get it after 30 hours neither. But in the end all will be clear, and it can touch you on a level, that very few games are able to. The acting is top-notch, the emotional impact, especially around the ending, is strong, and the conclusion will leave you with a tons of thoughts. From the original concept of rebuilding America, you will get to a point where it is all in a different perspective.

So, in my 50 or so hours of gameplay only once I felt a little bored, when for some reasons I couldn't continue my journey, and I had to make deliveries in one region, right after the story gets intense and really interesting. But after that part, everything is forgiven, altough that 4-5 hours is the reason, why I won't give 10 points to the game.

All in all: This is a great game, try it, and judge it afterwards, because watching videos of it will not bring the same feeling. It must be played.

And the amazing story makes playing the almost 60 hour campaign 100% worth it. The thing is that this game is all about the journey, it isn't a push the joystick forward to get to the next battle sequence, every step is a choice and every rock is a mini boss. This eventual need you get to conquer nature will drive you over the valleys and mountains dotted with BT and MULE enemy encounters. And as played up as it is, the player interactions make this game amazing (wait until you need another players bridge or shelter when trekking a mountain). With all the praise this game isn't perfect, animation sometimes is jankier than rdr2 and the time to get in and out of menus is infuriating (specially during boss fights). This is my first review and im doing it because its getting bombed with scores it does not deserve but its not a 10 either its probably a bit too long some cut scenes can be a bit cheesy even if you like that and the gameplay will not be for everyone. There are a lot of Kojima haters out there also x box and Nintendo players who will just shove a massive zero on it say its a walking simulator even when the game has been out only a few hours and it gets review bombed. YOU might not like this game its gameplay and story might not be for you if you dont like Kojima games you might not like it if you dont like slow gamepay even though i found it compelling you might not like it. The social system is awesome the way you can feel other people in the game is amazing finding a ladder when you fall in a crevice and it helps you, or finding zip lines in mountain areas or ropes that help you climb up or down mountains, this system make you want to help people building roads, safe houses, leaving ladders or zip lines in helpful areas.

I could go on an on about this game but no one will read it if i do there is good things and bad things in this game if you like Kojima play it, if you dont like him dont. If a game that has never been made and will never get made again before with interesting compelling gameplay with a story i really enjoy (especially the ending) its definitely worth a try.

So the premise is that somehow the world of the living and dead has sorta kinda intersected, and it's basically post apocalyptic sorta but the apocalypse happens when a human soul touches basically a demon from hell, it causes an antimatter nuke to go off, so you can imagine early on in the storyline as cities are being demolished people freak the F out, so they bunker down and the country becomes these outposts of civilization all holed up. You, for story reasons I won't spoil, are able to somewhat feel the demons and have made a name for yourself delivering supplies between these city bunkers. So the game is one giant fetch quest. And when it started after a few hours I was ready to throw in the towel because I was not enjoying it but it's sort of done that way on purpose. You literally have nothing but a backpack, and you are totally alone in the world, so you load up cargo and have to walk, across a desolate landscape and up mountains and stuff, and the engine is pretty amazing as you have to balance your weight on the inclines and can slip and fall, and have stamina which dictates how you can move uphill or across streams, and you can get swept away or fall down causing your cargo to fall off and get damaged or go rolling down that mountain you just hiked. It was infuriatingly difficult. Then add to that you have the stealth mechanics of avoiding demons and hostile humans and it was tough. All to deliver some cargo from point A to point B. So if you get to that, I can understand why its so devisive because it wasn't very fun and it didn't feel rewarding. But I kept at it and all of a sudden stuff starts to click. You "level up" skills which allows you to carry more weight and have better balance. You start unlocking tools that will help like ladders and ropes and then all of a sudden you have a bike then a truck, ziplines and remote charging stations so that progression feels really real.
Add to that you can basically modify the landscape to your need. Going between point a and b is a wasteland but spend resources and now theres a road and a bridge over that river all the way up to a series of ziplines connecting mountain peaks together. And this is where another really cool part comes in, its a single player game but ghosts of other players structures will sometimes come through, so you may be walking along and some other player in their world put up a series of ladders to climb up a tough spot, now you can use their ladder to climb up, or you can leave helpful signs to other players like “go this way” for a hard to find path. Also people can contribute to your buildings, so when someone helps you build a bridge across a river its in your game and theirs and it’s a really neat feeling of watching the land develop and see how other people are tackling routes or areas. Its all balanced well with the pacing so it starts off real slow with very few mechanics but toward the end you are loading up a truck with 30 boxes of stuff to deliver in a circular route that you spent 10 hours paving avoiding demons and humans and increasing rep and skills and it gets pretty addictive from that aspect. And once you get a handle of that the game adds in more gameplay types, now you are fighting demons and humans, and then the crazy amazing story starts to really come to shine and wow what a ride. The lore both in the form of emails and interviews with outpost survivors to hours and hours of amazingly done cutscenes paints a picture unlike pretty much any other story, and some emotionally charged sections as well. At the surface, the first 5-10 hours of “gameplay” is rough, some people will like it right off the bat, some will hate it but it’s done on purpose and the feeling of isolation and immersion is unbelievable and the feeling of reconnecting the country one stop at a time with amazing cast of characters and biomes is just something to experience. If you like to skip cutscenes and just shoot things this is not the game for you but if you want to be immersed in a world unlike anything else you’ve played and really feel a roller coaster ride of immersion, isolation, despair and elation and experience the entire package you will come away amazed.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
