I LOVE this game, but it’s not a game I would recommend to everyone. I love the lore, the cut scenes, the music, the world, the graphic, and the game play. I’m totally invested in the story, and can’t wait to push forward! I’m also that kinda guy who enjoy slow russian science fiction movies from the late seventies (Stalker, from 1978, watch it!), so this game is definitely an acquired taste. Expand

unique and intuitive, a very fresh and fun experience

i personally find the challenge of being a postman in this dystopian future to be thrilling and fun. Its such an absurd concept for a game, but somehow between the story and the game play mechanics i find it to be very rewarding.

This game obviously divides audiences and I love it for that. It's not boring, it makes every little thing interesting... but also, it's not Fortnite. One note, it's a bit "easy" to me, so I recommend "hard" difficulty (can change it whenever you want). This game has me thinking both when I'm playing and about the real world more than any game ever -- one part of that is the "like" system in the game, which is a kind of meta for some of the game's themes, and I love it. I find myself wanting to play slower, so as not to run out content to play. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Death Stranding is a fantastic game with intriguing and fun gameplay, logically coherent background but too much cutscenes. I haven't played a lot of Hideo Kojima games but this one is at least way better than MGSV.

The gameplay itself is outstanding in the whole game industry. It is indeed a misplacement to categorize it as a walking simulator which the mechanisms are almost nothing or designed solely to serve the narration (like in Edith Finch). The core playable content is like Human: Fall Flat which is an adventure with puzzles that is enhanced in freedom by a bit of physical simulation and sandbox. As the game proceeds, you will be able to use a large amount of tools with upgrades to make the delivery, and the use of them can get very deep.

Building a world together is not a fresh idea but it can easily become homogeneous and repetitive when it comes to strategy games, or require impossible amount of resources. The game applied a smart asynchronuous online playing that implement this idea while bringing some fun from social media.

I didn't mention anything about the soundtrack and graphics, because those are peripheral elements of a game as a kind of art. However this game is a masterpiece in interactive art. On my opinion, the best of a game them in other kind of arts is that the background and plot can be deeply embedded in the game mechanisms and in Death Stranding the relationship between them is very tight. For example, the mechanism of deleting facilities is the timefall, which also account for why you need to make deliveries in person. The growth system is well designed, unlike some media said it is nothing, the previous EXP in other games is granted the meaning of LIKES and each kind of level will give our character Sam different kinds of buffs. There are even more outstanding details that make the game coherent but I don't want to spoil them here.

All in all, 10 for the gameplay and -1 for the cutscenes, I don't really care about the decorations on the prototype.

Seeing people be so pathetic and ignorant with this review bombing is just sad... Instead of appreciating a new, complete and unique single-player AAA experience that clearly carries the vision of a single man, unaltered by the publishers greed and without any kind of microtransactions or other monetization practices, they act like children wailing in their own sh*t.

The game robbed you of nothing, it never lied to you nor deceived you - It always showed you what it was: A slow-paced narrative driven game that's focused on making deliveries, featuring a vast amount of rich, complex traversal and item management mechanics, and not your mass fodder "pew pew" and "bam bam". And in my opinion, after playing quite a chunk of it already, just those traversal mechanics are deeper than most of today's games full gameplay mechanics, especially in the AAA segment.

Even if you don't have as broad a gaming horizon yet and still don't have enough of today's mainstream games - Why not just be happy for the game and the people that like it, while continuing to play the stuff that YOU like instead of downright sh*tting on and making fun of something you don't find interesting (and don't even fully sem to understand because you haven't played it, judging by most of the "reviews" I see on here).

Basically you are a porter, delivering stuff to people around a post apocalyptic america. You have to plan routes, connect with different npc's, use vehicles, stealth through enemy camps, avoid or fight monsters/bosses. But the online play brings the real joy. Because you can build stuff in the world that makes traversal easier for you and other players. See a cliff? Place a rope so every player can use it for climbing. Its a really addicting part of the game. You really feel like you can accomplish something, working together.
But be warned, the first chapter takes its time to explain everything to you, after that you are already mastering most gameplay concepts.
If you like Kojima's other games you will like this as well, trust me

I’m gonna be honest I was really looking forward to this game pre E3 showings etc... I loved Hideo Kojima’s metal gear solid games and I knew the guy is a genius and all his games with Konami have been nothing short of spectacular!

Hence I was expecting the same from his new studio. However I was really disappointed with the press release up front and average reviews! I almost said that I won’t buy it because I’ve got so many other brilliant games in my backlog. But then I thought to myself hang on a minute I did this all once before when Days Gone released and ended up not buying only to purchase it a few months later and to be blown away by such a great game!! Plus it’s a Kojima game how could I pass it up?

So glad I listened to my inner voice and purchased Death Stranding day 1! The game is a masterpiece and Kojima is still just as talented as he was with Konami. I don’t want to go into spoilers and details but I’m now 27hours through and on chapter 3 still and the game shows no signs of giving up, finishing or slowing down, actually I think I’m about half way through and I’ve loved every moment of it. There are very few games which make me shout OMG and make it difficult for my eyes to believe what they are seeing and experiencing that is exactly what this game has done multiple times, be it the opening act where your first walking down that mountain with that amazing view and the game starts playing “Don’t be so serious” or the first time where you lay your eyes upon Port Knot City from a distance and another song plays! It’s unbelievable I’m telling you and I wish I could experience those things again for the first time.

At first it can all look a bit complicated with so many menus and data at your disposal but a few hours in and it’s all very easy to control.

Any improvements? Yes of course, I wish there was more FMV videos like what Konami is known for in MGS. Sure there is a hologram image of the owner of every new base/safe house you reach in the game but it’s not that exciting. What would have been amazing is if the people were actually there at each of the bases and you met them in a proper fmv scene. That would have made meeting all the people at all the bases even more exciting and something to look forward to. Maybe there was budget constraints so they chose this route, anyway here’s to a sequel that comes soon, really hope they add this in it.

Death Stranding is not your standard game, to be honest you wouldn’t even be able to explain it to anyone for them to get excited over it, it’s an experience, an experience which once you embark on becomes highly addictive and one that you just can’t put down. It’s a very stress free, relaxing and fun to play especially when you come home from work and have maybe an hour to play and chill. The game is a masterpiece and I can’t wait to see where the epic adventure goes next! Buy it and play it without any doubts and you won’t regret it.

An easy 10/10 for me and one of the best games ive ever played!

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
