    Death Stranding
    I just couldn’t care
Death Stranding is the latest game from the legendary hideo kojima of metal gear fame, and is the most pretentious game ive ever played.. full disclosure though.. I only played 4 hours of this 40 hour game. Because that’s really all I could take of it… This is a walking simulator from hell… 12 hours of cutscenes spread out by an excuse of a game…

full disclosure though.. I only played 4 hours of this 40 hour game.
Because that’s really all I could take of it…
This is a walking simulator from hell… 12 hours of cutscenes spread out by an excuse of a game…
you play as norman reedus aka sam, a glorified post man….
that’s not even a joke.. youre literally a delivery man.. the game is you taking packages from one place to another, climbing terrain, balancing your character as you walk with the trigger buttons, and trying not to get snatched up by a whale squid while your little attached baby goes crazy
On paper Death Stranding itself sounds like a fine game…
A relaxing journey delivering post, overcoming the terrain, the occasional enemy.. 12 hours of greatly acted and well animated cutscenes… if this were all it were I could’ve maybe managed another 4 hours or even the entire game..
But Death Stranding biggest flaw is its over complication of a simple concept….
Theres just too much here that it becomes overwhelming…so much explaining what everything does and what you can do with posts, and crafting, you can take a shower or **** pound down some monster energy drinks while you go out to rebuild America….
and I just couldn’t bother to get into it or pay attention…
so much talking, so many mechanics, so many systems, so much inventory management and things to balance and worry about
and for what? A game just about walking from one place to another to unlock the next 20 minute cutscene?
Death stranding feels like a boring lecture rather than a mythotical journey that it could have been…
I havnt played enough death stranging to fairly score it so I wont…
Ill just leave you with don’t believe the hype… Death Stranding is getting great scores for no reason other than it’s a Kojima game.
Don’t waste your time, energy or money.

A 3D fighting game feels like the ones I played in the 90's and while the graphics has improved, many of the core principles of the genres stay the same. It drives me towards the story driven games. But they tend to stretch the story across many DLC's and seasons...
Back to the point... I haven't felt so emerged and drawn to a game, as I am to Death Stranding, for a long time. Im like 15-20 hours in... Probably only halfway, but I really like the trip. Seeing all the mixed reviews I started the game with a feeling that I might not like it. I felt an urge to put a positive review here. This will rank as my GoTY.

Boring, repetitive, good but long and annoying cut scenes. It would be more interesting seeing a movie of it because its not exactly a game. Technically a masterpiece, nice music but in the end of the day, you buy a game to have fun. DS doesn't respect player's time and effort. Bad inventory, dead and empty world. If it wasn't a Kojima Game, the score would be way lower.

Vaya ! Lamentablemente

The gameplay was simple, yet addictive. Helping other players via the chrial network felt rewarding. Story/music/environments were beautiful yet melancholic Only negative is the lack of good boss battles.

Whoever thought doing the delivery quests from MMOs was fun, and needed to have even more nonsense and trivial busywork added to it? Well apparantly, Kojima did.

This is a walking simulator, if walking was made into a painful chore.

Excellent in almost every way and is just let down by lack of depth to mission requirements and no skill tree or way to spend xp(likes) so getting xp is pointless. That said the gameplay is a excellent mix of exploration, inventory management strategy and a risk vs reward terrain traversal game loop. Also dark souls style hint sharing with ability to share building and items adds a community feel to the game. Only gripes about it are that it becomes a bit repetitive in the last half of the game and its difficulty curve is weird. It starts off really difficult and then gets easier as it goes on in large sections of the game and you dont really have a need for your cool new toys by the last half of the game except for some excellent mountain missions. Also no replay value because once you have explored the map there is no point playing anymore, i found myself only doing story missions and no side ones as I just wanted to go to the next area. 8.5/10 but on here a ten to counteract the zero bombs. Deserves a quick playthrough by all serious gamers as its very unique and the world is very immersive. Expand

Death Stranding is one of the most "Hideo Kojima" games ever created. It mixes all the strange and weird found in the MGS franchise with deep and elaborate hiking/traversing mechanics.

The world has suffered the "Death Stranding", a worldwide event that caused the rules of life and death to no longer apply. The result? The souls of the dead now roam the realm of the living, voidouts (huge explosions that cause craters) happening when BTs (creatures from the realm of the dead, BT stands for Beached Thing) get in contact with live humans, rain called "timefall" that basically rapidly ages anything it comes in contact with and humanity just giving up on all hope and living in underground bunkers.

However, a company called BRIDGES aims to revert this catastrophe by installing key structures all over the USA, these structures would allow americans to reconstruct what was lost one day at a time by using a very advanced 3D printing technique. The thing is, when these structures were being created, the key item for linking all stations was still in development. This is your job in Death Stranding, unite America by linking all stations with the "Qpid" (the key to connect stations).

The game loop basically consists of you (Sam Porter Bridges) carrying deliveries in different quantities and sizes from point A to point B, but it is not easy, the terrain is the most difficult enemy in the game, with big mountains, cliffs, rocky terrain that make any kind of vehicle basically useless. Cargo is fragile so you need to take good care of it as badly damaged cargo may result in a GAME OVER or a bad review from the recipient. Not to mention the enemies you may encounter, we have MULEs (porters who basically went mad), Terrorists (these guys do not like the idea of a unified America, and will do what they can to stop you) and BTs (the supernatural ghosts)

You will be very lonely in Death Stranding, but that is part of the experience, you really feel like the future of American depends on your efforts only, it felt amazing to me how Sam is so fragile, he can slip on slippery terrain and won't be able to carry a lot of weight without mechanical help, even a river is sometimes very dangerous for him. You see his suffering, he is a normal human fighting against all odd, even supernatural ones, and when you finally reach your destination, you feel like you made the difference.

Death Stranding may not be for everyone though, you will be walking quite a bit on very tough terrain and enemies will always try to make your life harder, but for those looking for something different, something that makes you think and feel an unique experience (believe me, the feeling of getting something to someone who needs that against all odds is a very interesting one) will find DS to be one of the best games released this year.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
