Boring is the only word I could use to genuinely and honestly describe this game to the average consumer. Upon closing the game after about a 20-hour stent, I had to ask myself if I did gain any enjoyment from this game. I did, but not enough that I could call the game "fun".

Fun is relative of course, but this is the perfect game to test exactly how far your limits on the concept go.

Fun is relative of course, but this is the perfect game to test exactly how far your limits on the concept go. Are you truly willing to wade through 5 Hours of walking, delivering and walking again to find those moments where the action picks up and the game seems to begin? If not, this game is not for you.

But when the music rises and the sprawling landscapes are laid bare in front of you, the game is pleasant, enjoyable but fun? That's the judgment that the individual must make and not simply read or watch online. I didn't talk much about gameplay here but that's mainly because the "game" very often forgets it too.

Death Stranding is exactly what you expect from a Kojima game. It's confusing, beautiful and massive. But whether it is fun, is subjective, completely depending on taste and preference. For me, it was not an enjoyable experience, the limited fun I had didn't make it up for its large patches of boredom. Some will love it and some will hate it. Its a game to be experienced and talked about, not played.

Death Stranding is on one hand a great experience and on the other a seriously lacking game. I won't go into the story for fear of spoilers and also it is probably the biggest joy of this project in finding out about the world and the story yourself. What I will say is that watching these cutscenes was actually the best part of the experience and it was the part I was most worried about due to their reported length and yep some of them are long. However a fantastic cast and great acting kept me hooked, even if the script is a bit weak in parts, like seriously hire some writers Kojima.
The game itself, for me, was really dull and tedious. Yes it had been warned about in countless reviews however experiencing it first hand is something else. It just wasn't for me and the complete lack of variety made it just too much for the length of game it is. I am roughly 15-20hrs in and it's becoming more of a case of feeling I HAVE to keep going for the story than WANTING to and for a video game that doesn't sit right. There are some fantastic ideas here and there are some fantastic elements such as the graphics and environment but it is encased in a solid shell of boredom and repetition.

I play games to have fun.. The delivery system type of game-play is just straight up exhausting, and doesn't compel me to want to do better and most importantly.. HAVE FUN OR HAVE A GOOD TIME.
Despite Hideo Kojima's fantastic work on the MGS series, his idea are just too convoluted to make into a compelling and engaging game. He would be better off as just as a visual director for future titles.

    - Great music
    - Innovative concepts

    CONS:
    - Slow
    - Repetitive
    - Not enough action

The gameplay in the game is quite boring, an empty world, maybe it should have been filled with buildings of other players, but there are not enough of them. Too many accents on Norman himself, and his inguinal part. The vehicles in the game are terrible. Also, the movement of Norman himself leaves much to be desired, sometimes he easily rolls and climbs up stones that are high, despite the fact that you have a heavy load behind you, and sometimes he falls where you shouldn't, although you have nothing behind.Stumbles out of nowhere. This review turned out to be too long, and I will say lastly that the game has many more minuses, which upset me.

When you see a enemy(no EV) you can kill al the enemies easy with only 3 punches, and i finished the game in hard! Is this a joke? The game is really easy!
Even when you need walk aside the EVs, if you are walking crouch and slow, is really easy walk around over them.

MGS has always managed to blow me away with its innovative gameplay, magnificent story telling and great characters. And it all peaked with MGS5 The Phantom Pain, which took the idea of an open world stealth sandbox and absolutely surpassed any expectations. I put hundreds of hours into that magnificent game. But Mr Kojima's latest endeavour has left me quite disappointed. I preordered it after being intrigued by the cryptic nature of the trailers, the ambitious idea of the "Death Stranding" and the promising gameplay mechanics. But they didn't do much more than promise I'm afraid. When I ask myself what is the thing that bores me the most about games, I certainly think of fetch quests and lengthy cutscenes. Which is unfortunately most of what this game has to offer. I have already been playing for 10 hours and I am afraid I have been driven to a point of absolute boredom where not even the intriguing story will manage to get me back from. After countless quests involving delivering cargo from point A to point B under the guise of "connecting the US", I simply lack the willpower to continue playing the post-apocalyptic Fed Ex errand boy simulator that this game has turned out to be. It is not often that I feel like taking an indefinite brake from a game, especially a newly released one, but alas, I feel like there is nothing more to this game than this cycle of running around, putting down ladders and ropes, sneaking around BT's and delivering items. Also, let's not forget the story which is told through seemingly endless cutscenes that showcase Sam's lack of personality and his little "touch allergy". All in all, This game's greatest issue is the fact it often forgets it's supposed to be a game first and foremost. With a lack of meaningful and interesting gameplay, a severely lackluster MC and an abundance of lengthy cutscenes, this game makes me feel betrayed by the game director I used to adore so much. I must however give some credit for the beautiful visuals, both in and out of the cutscenes, as well as the soothing and atmospheric soundtrack, courtesy of LOW ROAR and Chvrches. However, I bought a game, rather than a movie or a music album, so I must unfortunately give this failed masterpiece a negative rating. Expand

Incredible that this is the first game that makes me do a little review. Kojima's biggest disaster, the guy was already stumbling with the disastrous metal gear solid v, where kojima demonstrates having no idea how to make an open world and with this walking simulator he reaffirms it. An open world where your only task is to take packages from here to there, where the bugs make you break the game and skip all the boring mechanics that Kojima wants to force you to play. A ridiculous and pretentious story that only a person with a very low intellectual level would come to admire, the worst physics that can be seen in this generation along with other games and without a doubt the most inflated game by the press and the horrendous Diva Kojima fanboys. I don't give it a 0 because there are people behind Kojima who worked hard in this crap.

Story seems really cool. Graphics are great, atmosphere fantastic. Music is great.

But what counts is the gameplay.
And oh my the gameplay is so dull and super boring. So deep gameplay to Kojima is, balancing your packages on your back. Making sure you dont fall over, while you climb a mountain? And rocks and walk through river's.
I want different games no doubt. But when you take the game out of it. And gives us an annoying walking sim, thats not even fun to walk around. Kojima lost me. This is a new genre aye? Just like farming sim and games like that. Pizza delivery man.

You are told in the first hours things such as "connect us" but you will never see the results of connecting people. The story is just told and never showed, it's a mistake that every single writer knows, even bad ones. Characters are one dimensional and even the great actors hired couldn't do much about them. The graphics are spectacular and Kojima as the director is amazing but those are the only positive things I can say about the game. It's a real shame because I was expecting this for years, since the first trailer. I will not preorder the next Kojima game. Expand

Sigh. Where to start? I‘ve played and finished the entire game and have been an avid fan of Kojima for many, many years, including his early titles like Snatcher, but Death Stranding is a letdown on every level that made the MGS games so good.

First, the good: visuals and cinematography are good, there’s no denying that. Many talented people worked on this title and it shows; technically, it’s flawless. I encountered no bugs during my gameplay and controls felt smooth. There are very interesting concepts and themes woven into the story and all the sci-fi elements look great. Some of the imagery and metaphors are powerful and touching. The music is top-notch throughout, both licensed tracks and OST. Good and popular cast of actors, I guess?

Now, the bad…. we know Kojima’s writing has always been cheesy, but at least his previous stories were grounded in reality. With DS, he had a blank slate and boy his way of introducing a completely new fantasy world is exhausting and amateurish and all the while he’s rehashing many themes and tropes from MGS since he’s apparently not capable of writing anything else. Kojima’s writing is like a lazy college essay: you write as much as you can, as convoluted as you can to sound intelligent but in the end you are saying nothing meaningful - nothing that we don’t already know. This game does not acknowledge or respect the audience’s intelligence and ability to think for themselves.

I can forgive gameplay flaws in a game as long as the story is intriguing and gets me emotionally invested. This was not the case with DS. None of the characters are interesting, nor could I connect with them on a personal level. It doesn’t help that they’re all friends of Kojima or his favorite actors so it feels more like his personal Hollywood fanfic fantasy, rather than carefully crafted “art” with a poignant message.

As I progressed through the story I became more and more aggravated at how nonsensical, awkward, and over the top the cutscenes were, and I just begged for it to be over. Kojima is constantly fanservicing himself in his cutscenes and had to throw every whimsical idea he ever had into the game without having an editor look over it (enough people have mentioned the MULEs, for example). The other characters are constantly bombarding you with calls, emails, and other verbose text files that are tedious to read because nothing of significance is being said. At some point I just stopped reading altogether. The worldbuilding is atrocious because the player is constantly spoonfed new information awkwardly which totally breaks the immersion because the protagonist is not a stranger to this universe. The player is not allowed to explore the world and discover it themselves, organically. Kojima sits you down in a chair like a toddler and shoves his “Philosophy” and “Morals” pulp down your throat.

One of the most fundamental rules of writing is to Show, don’t Tell. Not for Kojima – with him it’s all Tell, and what he shows is often beautiful and flashy, but ultimately hollow, not least because he’s overdoing it with the imagery and it’s often too on the nose.

He also doesn’t seem to understand that in order to tell a meaningful and thought-provoking story, you do not need billions of dollars or Hollywood actors. He just needed it to disguise how poor his writing is with fancy visuals.

Overall, even if you don’t mind the repetitive gameplay (or the overloaded menu screens and tiny text that will give you a headache…) and want to give DS a try for the story, I still can’t recommend it. Very disappointed as a long-time fan; I don’t think I will be purchasing another title from KojiPro in the future.

Promises so much and delivers a walking sim with a quasi sci-fi b.s. story. Its like a first year film student tried to shoehorn every concept he thought was cool into one narrative. Creating a meandering, nonsensical mess. The gameplay? Even worse. One of the biggest let downs I've ever experienced in gaming. And can be summed up in 4 words; FIFTY.......HOUR.....FETCH.....QUEST. With all the wonderful backtracking you might expect. Actually, quite possibly the most backtracking in video game history. Thats kinda all it is.
Millions must have been spent on actors salaries, cuz I've never seen so many resources/hype/potential squandered in a videogame. On top of that the walking (ya know, the MAIN feature) is clunky and the combat is generic and terrible. Combat = use square to punch. . . . . .thats it. Until you get weapons that you soon realize arent needed. Cuz the AI is some of the worst of this generation and they go down with zero difficulty even on hard.
So apologists say, 'its not about the combat'... OK well what IS it about? What other gameplay feature do you wanna hang ur hat on? Again..the combat and walking are not good! Lol. So they say 'story'. Its ridiculously bad! Lol. Ok well....'the feeling of bringing others together'. Oh, how could i forget that...we're only reminded of that after EVERY delivery/cutscene and it gets pretty old pretty quick. Ok, well 'helping others through multi player'.. Now that is an interesting feature (although not original) and seems to be the ONE thing that all the fans are clinging to. And will probably be the only feature salvaged from this game and implemented in others. But this alone does not make up for the rest. Not by a long shot. And if thats what makes this game a 'masterpiece', then jeepers creepers dudes...you got a LOW bar for quality in game design.
I swear i think the pacing was so glacial because someone realized how shallow the gameplay experience was. So they padded it out and slowly added new equipment here and there. Along with overly complex menus/item management. All to give the impression of depth.
They even implement a Facebook 'Like' system in the game complete with little 'ping' sounds meant to create a Pavlovian response in the player. That actually ticked me off. Dont bypass the player and f with their brain chemistry to make them think they're having fun like some cheap mobile game. Totally classless move. Along with the gross Monster Energy product placement? Yuck. As an experienced gamer I know when I'm having fun/and or being manipulated. And this was the least fun I've ever had struggling through a bad game. Seems to have worked on a lot of people apparently who think this is masterpiece for being 'different'. For them, the isolation and feeling of rebuilding with mellow Pop music was soothing...i was on board with that for the first 10 hours...then it dawned on me that this might be it. And that changed the whole vibe for me. It became more like listening to depressing music my maudlin drunkin Aunt would like, whilst working in an Amazon hub reading instruction manuals. FUN!
This brings a last gen cult classic, Deadly Premonition to mind. The gameplay in that sucked lol. Almost intentionally, and it was weird as hell. Frustrating as hell too sometimes, bad mechanics yada yada. But its quirkiness and weird story made up for it. Also .. ( and most importantly) IT WAS BILLED AS SUCH. They let you know it was niche and charged accordingly. But Death Stranding is a AAA title with the full backing of Sony behind it that cost $60. Or even more if you went for bundles/stupid gold clothes. And we had NO idea it was basically a walking sim until we bought it. Shameful, dudes. Sony went out of their way not to show actual gameplay for a reason. . Sad state of affairs. Lotsa people feel burnt by this.
If you genuinely like the game, fine. I can understand how some people would. I wont insult anyone who does. It does look amazing when you view the vistas as a whole. But the environments are COMPLETELY BARREN OF ANY DISCOVERY? huh? AAA title billed as open world, but with no point in actually exploring it. If anything it deters you from exploring cuz ur afraid of running into BTs or wearing your damn shoes out. That was probably the biggest face palm of the game for me.
Outside the game itself, these fanboys and industry payola types who claim this is a masterpiece and that the rest of us should just 'go play COD' are really making jackasses of themselves. This isnt a 'reimagining' of what games can be..its exactly what they shouldnt be. A product placement incoporating, skinners box of a cash grab claiming to be ART. Heinous dude. Says a lot that they wouldnt and still wont even call it what it is....a walking/delivery/inventory management sim, tacked onto a horribly paced sci-fi movie with laughable and overly sentimental/melodramatic dialogue.
    Looks pretty though!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: Beautiful graphics Interesting story Great acting and interesting characters Cons:

The game trolls you from beginning to end. It’s like a beautiful woman constantly kicking you in the balls. Punishing, repetitive gameplay. It is literally an 80 hour fetch quest designed to be as tedious as possible. Carry your package halfway up a mountain only to be attacked/slip and fall and lose 30 minutes of time. Not to mention having to run around and find the packages that inevitably fell off. And....you do all this with a screaming child. A child that you need to rock and soothe - even during boss fights. I would have gladly paid $5 in real currency to buy an in game Benadryl so the baby would just stop screaming for one goddamn hour. You trek across the continent and make it to the end, only to be told that you need to RETURN TO THE START on the flimsiest of pretenses. In a later mission, you’re tasked with providing medicine to an ostensibly dying character. This medicine is available naturally in the world, literally every two steps in the game. Nobody can be assed to bend down and pick it, so it’s on you to deliver it. Oh, and the container isn’t airtight and must never ever be submerged in water. And the very next Boss you fight is a giant squid who floods the screen and submerges you in water. Then when you finally deliver this all important medicine, turns out the recipient didn’t really need it at all - they just had sunstroke and needed to rest. The typical end exposition by the antagonist is a good hour of cut scene - which is totally to be expected. However, that scene is broken up by forcing you to run in place and exhaust yourself in order to trigger the next part. Best of all, that doesn’t even trigger the scene every time. More like every 3-4 times you exhaust yourself (which takes a good 2 minutes). Like every mechanic in the game, it is entirely pointless and unnecessary. It exists solely to troll and punish you for playing. The main character even asks “Is this a glitch?” during the scene. No, buddy. It’s Death Stranding. If the trophies are any indication, everyone quit playing in frustration after the 3rd chapter. Because each subsequent completion earned me a rare trophy. This game is beautiful. This game is unique. But it is not fun. At all. It isn’t even rewarding in its difficulty (ala Dark Souls). It’s just a long, long slog to watch cut scenes. A more honest name for this game might be Responsibility Simulator. But even that sounds more fun.

Death Stranding is game that is made out of good ideas. It is a game that is built on aiming for greatness. It is a game that does many things that many people love. It is a game that deserves recognition for what it tried to do. But it is also a game that people are not obligated to enjoy despite its faults.

Death Stranding has a disconnect between its story and gameplay that it never tries to reconcile. People worship you for delivering 5 pounds of medicine in a mission that took you 3 minutes to deliver. People will admonish you for things that you have no control over. The gameplay never touches the story and the story tries to use the gameplay as a sort of analogy for the setting and the world it takes place in but it forgets to ever do anything that makes sense.

The story telling method they chose to go with is meaning through obfuscation. Rather than give you a story and meaning they give you words that have no inherent meaning and then drip feed the proper interpretation of them to you over the course of the game so that you construct the plot yourself as you go. Chiral chiral chiral chiral, good, bad, voidout, chiral, chiralium, beach, beached things, voidout, chiral, bridges, Sam. You start the game with 2 hours of that before the game even starts trying to try and mean anything.

But then the game grows into something amazing. When you get past the intro and you look past the story you find a game that is a piece of art - where players work together to shape and reform the world for the convenience of each other. It allows you to define your experience and engage in a community art project. For a couple chapters.

After a few chapters of this interesting concept the game dumps you into a hellish nightmare in which your movement speed is reduced, vehicles barely work, enemies can't be avoided (and are even more tedious than normal to fight) and the only way to progress is by going out of your way to build zip lines so that you can minimize the amount of time you play the game.

Once the hellscape ends the game dumps you onto exposition lane - a series of 5 chapters which repeat the story to you over and over again, simultaneously summarizing your previous 30 hours of gameplay and force feeding you confusing and nonsensical twists. The game never had anything resembling pacing but in the last 5 chapters all pacing goes out the window completely. The game revels in making you do nothing for a while (literally nothing but walking around an empty environment) because it's trying to convey a message to you about your character that it thinks is more important than player engagement.

When you finally get to the final chapter the game has you spend 15 minutes emotionally investing you before providing you with a 45 minute cutscene that is comprised almost entirely of cutscenes you've already seen before providing the final shocking twist. It is patronizing. DS does not respect your intelligence, it does not respect your time.

DS does not respect what you want in a game and instead prioritizes what it wants to be over what it could be. This is not, in of itself, a bad thing. Games are explorations of art and potential and a game deserves to strive for something meaningful. But being art does not put it above criticism. Many, myself included, will not find the games attempt at meaning worth the time or energy investment that it takes to get to the payoff. If the story had been better, less patronizing? Maybe then it would be worth it.

At its best I felt the game was a 9/10. At its best I wanted to keep playing and do everything. I wanted to explore and to participate in its world.

At its best I felt the game was a 1/10. Not fun, not meaningful, not worth my time or energy. I stopped playing several times with no intention of coming back but I did eventually force my way through it.

DS is a game of high potential dragged down by lame executions and poor design choices. It is a game that I want to influence the world, but it is not a game I will ever play again. It is a game that I think everyone should try but that I would never recommend. It is a game that deserves all the criticism it receives and it is a game that deserves all the love that its fans have for it. Death Stranding is a game that will stay in my head for a very long time, but very little of what I think will be positive.

This is probably the most disappointed I've been with a game in years. Like many others, after the cancellation of Silent Hills, I was looking forward to seeing what Kojima would do next. What we got is something that would have been better off as a movie instead of a video game; Death Stranding is proof that Kojima is a wannabe movie director in a game designer's body.

The most egregious flaw of DS is the gameplay, and its lack of variety. This is not meant to be an action-packed game, so to justify the utter lack of interesting things happening during your deliveries, Kojima saw fit to "gameify" otherwise mundane elements taken for granted in other games. Now, you must make sure Sam is balanced with rudimentary, occasional inputs and ensure what you're carring isn't too heavy so that you don't fall forward up a steep slope and lose all your packages. Essentially, your means of traversal is the gameplay loop. There is shooting, such as during encounters with MULEs (vagabonds addicted to delivering, for some reason) but these moments are few and far between. DS props up this lack interesting interactivity with additions from other players appearing in your world; for instance, a ladder you set across a river may appear in another player's game, and vice versa. It's a good concept, but not enough of one to distract from the boredom of Death Stranding's frankly samey-looking open world.

The game's highlights are its BT encounters and MULE encounters, as this is when the stakes are raised forthe durability of your packages. The former is dealt with through certain ranged items fairly easily later in the game, and MULEs can be taken out through stealth, hand to hand combat (which is nothing more than mashing the attack button) or gunning them down. These moments make DS actually feel like a game. They aren't free from criticism either, however. MULEs are supposed to be obsessed with delivering, but you don't ever see them actually trying to deliver anything. I fully expected to see MULEs out in the world, perhaps dying in front of me or already dead, necessitating the player to incinerate their bodies so that a voidout might be prevented, but this never happened. And that's the main issue with DS: not much happens where and when it should.

As a game, an interactive medium, one would expect the story to unfold through moments of gameplay. Not with DS, the main story beats, character interactions, and narrative progression almost always happen during non-interactive cutscenes. This gives the game a feeling of just putting up with the chore of the main gameplay to watch the interesting story unfold in the game's inner movie. And to DS' credit, the story can be intetesting and it does have some decent characters. But as a game, DS fails. Later in the game, travel is made more convenient through trucks, ziplines, etc. However, this speaks to me as major evidence that the main thing you do in the game, walking, is boring enough that the game eventually rewards you by skipping it.

Perhaps basing a game around player interconnection is a great idea, as shown with Demon's Souls. Death Stranding, unfortunately, is not the showcase for this idea as it lacks in the very thing it should be: a video game. And I think Kojima couldn't be happier about this, as he edges closer and closer to the world of non-interactivity in Hollywood. If you want to play a good open world game from this year with variety to its core gameplay loop, and an interesting story with good characters, play Days Gone instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

While visually impressive, Death Stranding is a game that fails to deliver compelling gameplay and a satisfying story. The game forces you to do mundane tasks for over 40 hours and doesn’t reward you in any meaningful way. If you consider your time valuable at all steer clear from this trainwreck from Kojima.

The fights with the enemies are badly made and the bosses directly better if they werent. The gameplay is slow, boring and make me desesperate.
The game cost me 70 euros. I had to choose between Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Death Stranding or Pokemon Sword. I chose wrong.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am reviewing this from the harder difficulty level so things may be different on normal. While I really liked the underlying story, the rest of the game is just boring. As others have mentioned you spend more time trying to balance your items on a mostly uneven world over anything else. The sheer level of frustration in this game is enough where I actually regret spending time and money on this. How annoying is it when you have a vehicle with all of your resources only to have it get stuck in a ditch you can't get out of?

Building the road is a waste of time and even after you build it there are destinations that it is so far out of the way that you spend so much time going around other areas. They couldn't build a roadway across the later part of the mountain??? Also the cargo truck is so ridiculously slow...like who cares about realism...I want to get from point A to B and not have to spend 5 minutes driving to it.

And that gets me to the mountain. We have these vehicles to get around the area but they couldn't create a snowmobile to get around the mountain? Instead I have to walk like I am in molasses and while in some sections can't recover my stamina because I am mid way through a mission. I ended up falling so many times and losing my cargo.

I would say avoid this game unless you feel like you want to just be a UPS/FedEx delivery driver in a simulation, get frustrated, and an added storyline.

Some people will say that the game created a new genre in science fiction and gaming, and they might be right. This does not mean therefore the gameplay mechanics are good/satisfying, that the story is coherent/wel written. This is my review after trying to play the game for about 15 hours but eventually giving up.
    First the good:
++amazing cast of actors, that have been skillfully scanned and animated
++amazing graphics, the interface and world are very pretty
++music is great and fits the whole atmosphere of death and taking journeys
++first (and hopefully not last) game by an independent game studio started by Kojima!

    Now the bad:
--- writing: the writing in the game is horrid, props to the actors for greatly performing poorly (and most times corny) written lines. For a game that has a lot of story it would have been a good idea to let a professional English (native or equally skilled) writer take a look at all the writing. Not to mention the contant pedantic in your face lines that feel awkward and stupid. "There is no future without america". We all know Kojima is a fan of the USA culture, but the game feels forced in the way it speaks about it.
--- gameplay/game mechanics: yes it is a different kind of game and I'm all for new and innovative, but, gameplay wise it feels very artificially filled with unnecessary back and forth, almost unsteerable vehicles, walking mechanics that dont make sense (reedus radomly zways left or right) preventing users from enjoying the walking around. This couldve been removed and the game would not suffer from it. Adding complexity in order to give players something to do while walking is not good game design.
---Story and world logic: any good story makes sense in its own world. The whole rain makes you old is cool and innovative but, the world does not make sense when you think about it for more than 2 seconds, the plants grow and die, rocks should decay and most infuriatingly there shouldn't be any buildings standing! How many times has it rained when you reach a brand new outpost? If those building are made of a certain material that does not decay, why not use that material on everything else? Also what happened to planes? They should be able to rise above the rain and deliver goods and everything else? Why not burn people at cities and collect the chiral dust in a container that can be later shipped off site? There are many such gigantic logic holes in the story that I tried to ignore but it was in the end impossible to. Reedus is the last resort of sorts for the unification of USA, so why not put everything into helping him out? There are literary trucks outside that reedus is not allowed to drive, why?
--UX: yes the UI is pretty, but its incredibly unclear and does not communicate clearly to the player what is happening, specially the deliver menus and world icons.
-- Player feedback: the game likes to make the player feel like an important part of the world, however the lines are overused and you cant take it seriously after the 25th time someone gives their thanks.

TLDR: game is pretty, game mechanics are awkward and often make the game unnecessarily difficult and grindy. World/Story logic often doesn't make sense.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
