i played about 8 hours and i like it. something i wanted for long, a chill game that you walk around in deliver package. im a bit done with the action games so yeah if you like a chill game this is definitely for you! but sometimes mechanics are a bit broken in my opinion that you want to pick something up from the ground but sam decided to just jump around for a bit like wtf dude take it easy.

Death Stranding is a weird game indeed. When you start playing you come across beautiful graphics, engaging story and one by presenting everything that has come. At first you start asking yourself, "Am I going to be pacing all the time?" But the answer comes over time and makes the gameplay very attractive with little touches of tension.

About 10 hours in and it is an interesting and enjoyable game but is not for everyone. It is a really high budget walking sim with lots of long and many cut scenes Kojima is known for. The beginning few hours in particular are heavy with walking to destinations with not a ton going on in terms of action (mostly stealth sequences) and at least an hour worth of cut scenes. The beginning few hours in particular are heavy with walking to destinations with not a ton going on in terms of action (mostly stealth sequences) and at least an hour worth of cut scenes. So if you aren't into any of those things, this game is probably not for you.

If you are, well you are in luck! It's a unique take on a post-apocalyptic scenario that most in the genre is usually either filled with zombies in an urban environment or a Mad Max type of hellscape world with marauders. This game is actually full of varying environments from moss covered mountains with rivers and streams to rocky desert environments (and this is just the two first zones). Flora and locations are very detailed and a few times I stopped and soaked in the scenery. Character models are amazing in terms of detail as well and definitely is pushing whatever version you have of the PS4 to the max! Only games in terms of graphics that rival this game on the PS4 is Detroit: Beyond Human. Voice overs are top notch, again on par with Detroit or close to any Naughty Dog game. Ambient sounds are well done such as thunder, rain, and rivers and over a long mission the game will throw a mellow indie song to go along with your adventure.

Gameplay is unique or annoying depending on your prespective. You are essentially the Special Forces of package delivery, making treks over long distances and your packages take damage from falls, time-altering rain (yes that is a thing here), other humans who want your packages, while avoiding the occasional invisible ghost called a BT. To elaborate more on the falling part, you can trip on rocks, tip over if you are carrying too much weight, fall off cliffs...but you have a nice arsenal of handy equipment like ladders and rope to help you traverse these obstacles, with full blown bridges, truck, motorcycles, and user built roads later in the game.

The multiplayer in this game is unique too as you don't play directly with anyone, and I'm not sure how many people are assigned to a zone/server with you (20-50 is my guess) but you can find other player's gear, vehicles, buildings and use it. For instance, you may be coming to a wide river and have no ladder to put horizontally across to ease the crossing but luckily another player thought of that and you can use theirs and distribute "likes" to the player for the ladder like you would a funny meme on Facebook (and that you should).

Story is interesting IMO, but maybe too convoluted for some and the game doesn't go into detail about the who, what, when, where and how of some things until later in the game. Not going into the details of the story because it's all to some extent a spoiler. You play as Norman Reedus aka Sam and take items from point A to B is most simplistic summary I can give without giving anything away or straight confusing people with the actual details. Will just tell you this isn't your typically Call of Duty single player campaign of shoot bad guys, stop nuclear/biological/chemical weapon. Nothing wrong with those games ( I enjoyed the latest Modern Warfare campaign) but this game adds lots of unique ideas that I've never seen in other games, so most is going to be unfamiliar and hard to follow for some.

All in all, really liked my time with the game thus far but as mentioned this is going to be a love or hate it type of game I think. People who enjoy walking sims will really like this because unlike most indie versions, this game has a lot going on in terms of finding things to do and exploring and really doesn't force you to continue the story or force you anywhere if you don't want to go there yet. I like that kind of independence in a game and think many others do too. Again, if this doesn't sound like your cup of tea but are somewhat intrigued, rent it. You will be able to tell in the first 5-6 hours if this is a game for you or not.

I've never played any MGS games before and didn't know much about Hideo Kojima before seeing trailers of Death Stranding. Here's my summary of good and bad points (I've only played like 4-5 hours in total so far)

    Good:
    - Great graphics on the PS4 pro with beautiful landscapes. I love walking around and exploring the post apocalyptic world, traversing rivers, rocky mountains etc.

    - Great cutscenes, feels like being a part of a Hollywood movie. Like a mixture of Lost, Stranger Things, Black Mirror.

    - Lack of action and pacifism was appealing to me. I have no rush and I see this as a relaxing experience as if I'm actually exploring a new world trekking around. This really might be a new genre and it has tons of potential for improvement.

    Bad:
    - The technology of the world seems to be too advanced for sending deliverymen around on foot. This feels weird. Could be better if the survivors weren't this "clean" and plastic. I like the world presented in the movies "The Road" and "Book of Eli" when it comes to post apocalyptic environments.

    - Could have been better if there was vehicle physics and gameplay like Spintires.

    - The async multiplayer feels weird. Makes the game easier but funnier. Might be better if you play it totally offline, giving you more isolation and realism of being alone in the environment.

The game was slow to begin with alot of cutscenes when I just wanted to get into gameplay but now I am really enjoying it and keep coming back to play, I got so excited when I unlocked vehicles lol but I didn't even mind the walking (it's not a walking simulator) I love all the micromanaging aspects of the game and the way Kojima has integrated the online is so cool the story is very interesting and keeping me involved. I'm not sure where everyone's getting this "obsessive advertisement" from have they even played the game? There is small amount of advertising when you visit your private room with 5 cans of monster energy on the table but they actually have a purpose you drink them for extra stamina and when Reedus takes a poop the doors advertise Norman Reedus rides on amc which I actually thought was funny didn't bother me at all people are making a big deal out of absolutely nothing.

And one last thing and probably the most surprising and best I have been playing since day one and have not experienced one bug the world is massive but nope not one it's great to see such a well polished game released, normally if I buy day one it's riddled with bugs so I was so surprised, Kojima should be proud just of that he has done a very good job here and other developers should take note that you don't need to rush and release a buggy mess I think we appreciate it more if it's finished to perfection which this game is, I will be playing this game for a long time I absolutely love it.

The game looks and runs beautifully on a regular ps4. The game is a literal UPS/USPS simulator but with guns and bombs and more tools at your disposal with rhe addition of ghosts(bt's). Some people might find this boring and some people might find it satisfying to deliver the packages safely to their location.
I believe that the people giving the game under a 6 is either a hater of kojima or just plain casual gamers who went in expecting this game to be like a ghost recon or cod type of game. Unfortunately those of you were wrong lol.
Now, i give this game a 7.5/10 because it's repetitive nature of the beginning. And the positive of great actors, voice acting, amazing story and lack of bugs (so far after 20hrs no bugs). Other than that it's a solid game you should buy when in sale if you're skeptical. So if you read this review thank you and have a wonderful night/day.

No, this is not a "walking simulator," anymore than Alien Isolation was a "hiding simulator," or a Quantic Dream/Telltale game "one big unending quick time event." That reduces what it actually is to a ridiculous level. It is also, not for people expecting a Metal Gear -esque game. I will tell you who will like this game, people who liked Journey, who liked Silent Hill (there is an element in this game where you are notified of a change in the world, and the world becomes much more dangerous, much like whenever the siren sounds in Silent Hill, it is intense when it happens), Fumito Ueda games, Cyan Worlds games, Quantic Dream games. If you dislike any of the above types of games, this game likely isn't for you. The "clumsy" mechanics is intentional, to mimic the actual difficulty of traversing land. You do repeat the singular task of delivery, over and over, much like the task of travelling to the next temple in The Last Guardian, over and over. It's the types of things that can happen to you each time, which gets intensified, more complex, each delivery and the next, which creates the tension, addictiveness, meaning and challenge of the game. Not to mention a very compelling story. It is bar none, one of the best game I have played this year.

I gave this a 8, due to two flaws: 1) the world is too empty, they can populate each station with a few people on the surface to give it a sense that it is a living world, though I understand the intention of creating isolation in the main character and due to aesthetic, much like a Fumito Ueda game like Shadow of the Colossus. 2) There is not enough stakes for the deliveries. Instead of cargo that are essentially all interchangeable with one another, it could have been that he's delivering a bomb or weapons or some secret codes or something that you SEE being used. Maybe this occurs later in the game (I'm still in Episode 2: Amelie). But these two flaws are a bit too jarring to not be noticed.

Otherwise, this has been a personally utterly immersive and gripping gaming experience for me. When BB cries, and thunder claps, the rainbow appears, I get the same feeling of intense dread I felt with the first Silent Hill games I played, whenever I heard the siren. It was very visceral.

It's not perfect, but between 8 and 9 out of 10 is where I'd put it. But do not buy it if you were expecting MGS. It is not. It's a great Quantic Dream-esque/survival horror-esque/Journey-esque/The Last Guardian type game, but with a lot more customization you can do with gear and a great story.

The people giving 0 are reviewing the wrong genre.

Seriously the worst mission I have ever played in a video game. I LITERALLY propped my thumb stick forward with a roll of paper towels and watched as Sam slowly drudged his way up a snowy mountain for FIFTEEN minutes. Was this seriously intended? They didn't go over the mission where you slowly walk in snow for 15-30 minutes and go "Hey maybe we should just delete that one" then you have to walk BACK another 15-30 minutes because the location you go to does not have fast travel. On top of this you get nothing from the location other than a skeleton that helps you walk thru the snow SLIGHTLY faster. Damn that would have been really useful before i wasted an hour of my life watching a video game character walk up a snowy mountain. There is a faster way thru, but it has BTs and this is one of the only orders where you have no BB. This game was a solid 10 until this mission, thats how bad it was. A lot of other orders have made me so frustrated but I usually end up realizing there is something I could have done better. For order no. 47, there is nothing I could have done better. You can't sneak past BTs in this mission so you are literally forced to just walk in the snow thru absolutely nothing, which there really is no faster way to do this as far as game mechanics are concerned. It's so annoying that this game is an easy VERY positive score with the removal of maybe 3 orders.

Also, any person giving this game a rating in the 0-4 range (especially 0) has not actually played the game or is entirely irrational. Despite the few botched missions it is extremely polished, more so than 99% of games this decade. If you're on the fence about this game, just know there is A LOT of walking/hiking around. But if you're patient and enjoy amazing art direction and story telling, you'll find a deep purpose in all the walking/hiking around.

With the processing of the game, transportation facilities will be unlocked and this game could finally be enjoyed. The most fascinating part is the help from other players which makes the process of the game never lonely again. However, somehow it is still not enough given the frame of open world gameplay. But I think the theme "connection" has been well pointed out by the performances of the actors, scenes, music and even the "poor" gameplay as well. Maybe Death Stranding is the only game I could truely feel "warm". From this point of view, it is still a good game. Expand

Kojima is known for making great boss battles so that has been disappointing. But the combat isnt bad by any means, it just needs more "spice." Over all it is a great experience but not one i recommend to the average person. One thing is for sure if they listen to criticism, this game years from now will be a cult classic, and the sequel will be amazing. Expand

I’m around 16 hours into the game and I can say it’s blown me away in terms of graphics and story telling. For anyone that wants to get away from the basic games out at the moment and wants to try something new and pretty much just chill out, get this game! The graphics is breath taking and although the game is filled with cut scenes I couldn’t see the game playing in any other way considering how immersive, new and confusing the story is it needs cut scenes to explain it and help the player get a gist of it atleast. Yes this game is a walking simulator but it’s also so much more than that. I can say in these 16 ish hours I’ve already felt so many emotions towards the game it’s unbelievable. I don’t want to say much because it’s a game that can’t be explained it needs to be played but I just want people to know if you like to chill out and ain’t afraid of something new please try this game. The only reason I’m not giving it a 10/10 is because it isn’t no red dead redemption or the last of us it’s a new genre that is exciting and has hopefully built a new image for future games coming. Not gonna lie, I had my doubts when Kojima made this big emphasis on the BB because I hate babies and kids but I was pleasantly surprised. I really like games that take a mundane thing like farming, making mass production factories and then slowly give you tools to do said mundane thing more efficiently, many would have my head on a spike but I do thing breath of the wild could take a few notes when it comes to items that you don't NEED but improves the experience that BoTW really could've used more of without ruining the open world experience or hit you with road blocks. I probably can't list all my pros but I'll try to pinpoint the main ones.

    Pros:
    - Norman Reedus is great as Sam and his improv is what make his character great, but could've used more of as he pretty much seems like Daryl from Walking dead but now in Death stranding.
    - The abundance of items and tools to make your journey easier, it made me wanna visit every prepper and get something from everyone form a harmonica to a level 3 non-lethal assault rifle.
    - Great characters, however wished I saw them more often but I assume it was in favour of making you feel more alone in this disconnected wasteland.
    - Story, very trippy but very enjoyable, although I felt characters explained things too much to be a realistic conversation for someone that's been in the apocalypse for 10+ years.
    - Beautiful scenery. I had doubts about it at first since a lot of games are just empty wasteland these days, I was surprisingly content throughout the journey despite the loneliness, thank's to very stunning landmarks.
    - Building constructs. I built a base in a mountain and maxed it out with a horizon zero dawn giraffe hologram walking on top of it and helped build many roads with other players, although don't expect all the roads you build will appear for everyone else, if you want more constructs from a person to appear, the game allows you to connect with them so you will see more constructs with said person.
    - The music!! Its so good and fits the mood perfectly, a lot are from Low Roar but there are other tracks from other bands you can listen to in the comfort of your own safe room.

    Cons:
    - Combat, although more than functional with a lot of non-lethal and lethal options, when it happened it kinda just got in the way of my goal as a delivery man and I found myself robbed more than once and giving me tools to defend myself came rather late into the game. Also when I get into combat, I'm more often than not ill equipped, as I'm covered in packages filled with sperm, eggs and old books.
    - Difficulty, I played on the hardest difficulty and it was a cakewalk. Although I haven't delivered cakes yet, only pies. However difficulty spikes are present and completely soured the experience in later parts of the game, even if they are brief.
    - BB, I hate babies and kids and having to stop to comfort it was something I found myself just ignoring, it felt a chore.
    - Vehicles. They control like absolute ass, at least since of the date of this review. They just felt like oversized rev up toys, sometimes I found myself stuck to a rock only to suddenly launch full speed away from like I never lost momentum at all, not any particular vehicle is bad, all of them are bad and require roads to be effective and roads are expensive and not everywhere.
    - No ingame MP3/music player. Unlike MGS5, there is no MP3 player or music player in death stranding, I assume its to not overshadow Low Roars great tracks that start playing depending where you are but there are a lot of silent moments and not being any way to play this big library of music I've collected even in the post game is a big shame.

Overall, really enjoyed my experience and can't wait to see what Kojima comes up with next, but I'm keeping that collectors edition baby locked up forever in that plastic tomb where it belong until the end of time.

I don't really see why people are having so much problems with it's gameplay, maybe it's just me, but i enjoyed all the weight management, different terrain traversal and construction, and even more so because of all the incredible work they've put into animation, it's really enjoyable to find your way around the land
Combat feels a bit redundant, but doesn't really hurt anything,

After playing Death Stranding extensively, it is clear to me that Kojima originally set out to create a unique experience unlike his previous works, one that challenges the current state of AAA game development. On the surfaceAfter playing Death Stranding extensively, it is clear to me that Kojima originally set out to create a unique experience unlike his previous works, one that challenges the current state of AAA game development. He has succeeded in this regard, albeit at the cost of disappointing a large portion of his loyal fans and those looking for a more 'action-driven' experience. On the surface level, calling Death Stranding a 'walking simulator' is not too far from the truth with the primary mechanic of the game being on-foot traversal, however, the true enjoyment of Death Stranding is found in the game's encouragement of players to utilize skills often unseen in many AAA games, most notably character management, problem-solving and adaptation. This makes Death Stranding more akin to the design of many indie games, where more niche genres such as strategy and simulations thrive under a lower quality expectation. Death Stranding simply captures these niche elements and seeks to elevate them with a AAA budget and a talented studio, as seen by some of the game's more polished elements such as its breathtaking visuals, intriguing audio design and high budget cast. This game is definitely not for everyone, but ultimately succeeds in capturing Kojima's vision of challenging the norms of video game development and creating a fresh experience in an over-saturated market. This game is about the journey and doing your part to make the world a better place. The sense of accomplishment when you get your destination and connect new cities is amazing. I also find myself creating structures purely in the hopes someone else might find them useful.

While battle is not a huge focus in this game, it is present. The focus is on sneaking, running, and non lethal solutions. I find myself holding my breath as my character does, my heart beating like a racehorse as I try to sneak around. The peaceful moments in between are made sweeter by the enemy encounters.

The story is 100% Kohima, so I expect I will never fully understand, but reading and watching the optional lore helps immensely.

Everybody is **** on the gameplay, just because they think it's repetitive. But in what action game do you do anything different that's not repetitive? It's a stupid conclusion, and you shouldn't judge the game by watching gameplay footage.
Gameplay: It is way deeper than what the game shows, most tricks you can find out by experimenting with it. Reconnecting with people is rewarding, you feel good about yourself when you see your ranking go up. The game has different mechanics for traversal / rest / helping other players. Traversal can be hard with the vehicles, you can get stuck on every little rock, so I prefered running to my destination. Combat with humans is fun, not that deep but combat is not the point of the game. BT's can be a pain in the ass, but when you get weapons later, you can easily get rid of them. Players will help with there buildings and ladders and bridges, and you can help others too. Your buildings will appear in other's game.
Story: Without spoiling anything, this game will make you think about our future, the world, and its people. I completed the game in 36 hours, and I'm gonna continue it, because it is fun!
I recommend it to people, who loves thought-provoking stories, and doesn't mind a somewhat clunky but really fun gameplay!

Death Stranding is the latest game from Hideo Kojima and its safe to say that its his most divisive game yet. While many people criticize the game for being a repetitive and tedious chore of a game, i actually quite enjoyed the game from time to time, even when its boring. The gameplay largely involves of walking from point A to point B, and just from that alone, i can see why alot ofDeath Stranding is the latest game from Hideo Kojima and its safe to say that its his most divisive game yet. While many people criticize the game for being a repetitive and tedious chore of a game, i actually quite enjoyed the game from time to time, even when its boring. The gameplay largely involves of walking from point A to point B, and just from that alone, i can see why alot of people dont like the game. But even then, i just got attached to the gameplay loop and it actually got pretty addicting, the reason being that its probably because of the risk and reward that the game offers.

The open world and the traversal kinda reminded me of Breath Of The Wild which is kinda weird seeing that DS's open world is pretty barren compared to BOTW's, but i think thats why i really like it, but i probably wouldnt have liked the open world or hell, the game as a whole as much if it werent for the online system that the game has. In my opinion, this is an online system done really well for a single-player focused game. Its pretty similiar to the online system of Dark Souls but its more akin to Nier: Automata in my opinion, where players can help each other by donating their items for other players or create structures together so everybody can use it. Its actually a pretty good system once you understand how it works.

Now, since this is a Kojima game, we of course have to talk about the story. From the moment this game was announced back in 2016, the story was what intrigued me the most, and well what do i think of it? Well after years of waiting, In my opinion, the story of Death Stranding is just not as good as Kojima's previous works. Its better than MGS V that's for sure, but when comparing it to Mgs 1, 2, 3, and even 4 to a certain extent, there's just something missing that i'm not really sure what it is. That being said though, i still like the story as a whole when it introduces new and interesting concepts just not when its being overly pretentious at times. Though if you are currently playing the game, i highly suggest you complete it, even if you dont like the gameplay loop and the earlier story segments because the game and the story in particular really gets bettter towards the end and around the 20-ish hour mark is where the story got really interesting in my opinion.

One last thing i wanna mention in this review is the soundtrack, which is probably the best thing about the game in my opinion besides the visuals. There are some really great moments in the game that i dont wanna spoil that wouldn't have work as good if the music werent there. From the OST's to the songs from Low Roar, it's really awesome and it adds so much to the game's atmosphere.

So to round up this review, Death Stranding is a game that i really enjoyed even with its faults. The story is great even though its obnoxiously pretentious at times. The gameplay loop, while boring at times, can be pretty addicting thanks to its world design and online system. The visuals are really great and can be mesmerizing even though there's no day-night cycle which is a a shame. And the soundtrack is the best that i've heard all year. I really wanted to gave this game a 9 or hell it could even be a 10 at some point, but there's just quite a few problems holding it back from being a 9 or a 10, which is why i'm giving this an 8. i wanted to give it an 8.5 but unfortunately metacritic doesnt allow decimal review user scores.

The balancing system feels realistic making you think hard about your upcoming journey and where to step. The stealthing around BTs is tense, only letting you see the actual ghosts when your standing still.

    Cons:
Traveling with vehicles can be rather annoying and almost completely useless early game, as no one has built flat roads, so each and every pebble seems to want to get in your way. Combat also feels rather pointless as most enemies (including bosses) are more time consuming than dangerous.

So the bad thing is, this is that kind of game that needs to be played for a while before you gradually discover the essence that makes this game interesting and unique. For me, this point alone is something that has caused some players (especially action genre-oriented gamers) got bored only after playing several hours and gave bad scores. BUT if you're like me and dare to "waste" 10-20 hours of your life to play this game, you'll find that this game is really addicting and challengingly fun to play (for me at least until midway of episode 3 which is where things get really interesting, considering this is the part where you acquire some cool new techs, weapons and vehicles).

"There's no way walking through the map, delivering cargo with minimum combat actions can get interesting".
This is also what i said to myself before I arrived to that point of the game I mentioned above, and boy I was wrong. This game has its portion of action if you want it, e.g fight MULEs and BTs with your cool weapons in open combat or stealthily knock them out (or eliminate them, if you fight BTs) and cool mini-boss fight that rewards you with resource to fabricate new equipments or build new infrastructures (highway, generator, shelter, zipline, etc) to make your journey more exciting.

The last thing that I want to point out is, if you decide to give this game a chance, please play it online. This is where Death Stranding is all about. To connect with players around the world to help each other and progress forward.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ever since the Announcement 3 years ago when a something was brought by non other than Hideo Kojima and his new studio “Kojima Production”, they surprised all of us with a brand new IP called “ Death Stranding”. I will be honest I was expecting the revival of “Silent Hills” knowing before how I was just skeptical but the more trailers they brought into other Gaming conventions at the point I was very interested even though we don’t know what it is or what was even the gameplay going to be? But knowing how kojima keeps his subtlety into his games and teases his fans including myself. We cut now to 3 years later and the game is finally release in public. Before I talk about the game, game journalist got there copies of the game first before us and majority of game journalist gave the game mixed, bad, and even calling it a masterpiece. But I was worried from the most part is the gameplay since I’ve seen a few videos online. I only had high hopes if the game worked for me and.... it turns out it actually did. Now I’ve only have two issues of the game but we’ll get to that later. I would like to talk about the pros.
I thought the story was really bizarre but at the same time engaging to see, sort of like you watching an arthouse cinematic experience. The music makes it feel like your connected with the world your immerse in. Acting performances and the cast did a phenomenal job. The graphics they used from the decima engine is very detail and very stunning to look at. And last in my opinion I thought the gameplay was really addicting, but here’s the controversial about the gameplay? Only 50/50 would any gamer would either like the game or not. But surprisingly I enjoyed it, later in the game it rewards you with upgrades to make your journey convenient, there is action parts in the game but not to where it would exaggerate a whole lot, just to where it needs to be or in this open world you can take down the BT (Beach Things) or The Mules. BT’s are describe as an entity that surrounds your area and if you get caught by them immediately they’ll sink your character down to where they can kill you. The Mules are enemy in the game that takes your cargo and kills you as well, they’re not the only enemies you have to kill in the game but there’s bosses in the game and some require skill and ways to kill them. And finally I thought the finale of the game is very well handled. If I had to issue two things about the game, it is in the later episodes you start to be bombarded with a whole lotta exposition to where I couldn’t sink in all the information what is has given me, and last this might be a minor spoiler but after you completed connecting all the chiral networks all the way to the West.... the game forces you to walk all the way back to East depending how long you get there, to where I was beginning to feel allot stressful. But overall I fully enjoyed this experience throughout and I also appreciate the game for being different and fresh. I am looking forward to the future for another Hideo Kojima game.

But yes, it's not a 10 either. This game suffered from overhype a little bit too much. It is a finished project with unique takes(!) on gaming experience and gameplay. Can't say it is a new genre, but experimentation and the willingness to try something new in the stale mess of the game industry of today is extremely important. And yes, it was super fun.

    The graphics are amazing,
    The sound design is outstanding,
What many people find boring other people (me included) find extremely engaging and exciting. But the gameplay still lacks variety, especially when comparing with other greatly anticipated games of the past years.

Again, I wasn't bored for a single minute in those 60+ hours I have in the game.

For me, it is a solid 8. Saddens me to see the game being tanked with 0s so much but it's okay. To each their own, especially with a game as different as Death Stranding.

A creative endeavour that's unlike anything I've ever played before. The game is more about the journey than the objective and what you do and experiences you have on the way. A slow burn story that ultimately has rewarding character experiences. Mads Mikkelsons character stood out as he was always going to do. Not a game for everyone, especially those looking for a quick pay off. HoweverA creative endeavour that's unlike anything I've ever played before. The fist fight with higgs was a welcome throwback to MGS4 and was a standout fight for me. I encourage anyone to try this game out as new experiences are hard to come by in the gaming industry these days and this will certainly be a game that sticks in your mind for a long time after you've finished. Marks down also for the lack of replayability here but the game is excellent as a single player experience and the 50+ hours to complete justifies the purchase. Expand

The idea of bringing everyone together in both your main story and your a-sync multiplayer is brilliant, but unfortunately will fail to engage people who just want to run and shoot. I don't believe anyone who has finished the game will rate this anything below a 5 and if you write something positive about this game your review is automatically unhelpful. If you're someone who aren't willing to play a game for more than 5 hours than please don't buy Death Stranding as you'll either ruin it with negative reviews or clearly not patient enough for a game like this. II don't believe anyone who has finished the game will rate this anything below a 5 and if you write something positive about this game your review is automatically unhelpful. If you're someone who aren't willing to play a game for more than 5 hours than please don't buy Death Stranding as you'll either ruin it with negative reviews or clearly not patient enough for a game like this. I can't stress this point enough, since none of the negative reviews mention the storyline then clearly they never made it past the first few hours so its not that unusual for them to be so confused/lost about the game as its the same as stopping Game of Thrones after episode 1 and wrote **** about the whole show...

    Pros:
Addressing the Critics first, this game should be viewed in 2 aspects and completely separately, the "Cutscenes" which is basically a brilliant made TV show/Film and should only be viewed this way and not as boring and unnecessary bits that causes the player not to "play the game". The storyline itself is incredible unique and Kojima has done an incredible good job in creating a sci-fi world that has never been seen before combining the concepts of Life and Death in a way that has never been explored before in the world of gaming. The actors does an excellent job with portraying the storyline although the cheesy lines can make some scenes really cringy to watch.

The other aspect is the "Gameplay", where in this game it turns into a supporting aspect of the cut scenes as opposed to the other way round with most games. A lot of people mention this as a "walking/delivery simulator" and while this is true to some extent, people who has this view refuse to look beyond what the game is about. Kojima goes above and try to creates a game that highlights the importance of helping other people out or "connecting" (literally the whole premise of the game). You're awarded likes for creating useful structures in aiding other players and I spent a good chunk of my time actually either building roads or structures to help the players that might potentially use them. It takes the "selfshness" out of gaming and puts in a more selfless kind of game play which i don't think anyone is used to hence the negative feedback. Not to mention the enemies (BT's/Mules) adds an element of difficult and stressfulness to the game play which helps to spice up the gameplay. Plus the people who complained about "inventory management" are retarded, there is literally a button that does it for you automatically.... I think what the critics are getting it confused about is "planning" your actions i.e what items to bring along with you and what is feasible. Again since it's not traditionally seen in games to "plan" what you are doing, it's probably why it got so much hate.

    Cons:
This game isn't perfect and there are a few really annoying things in the game that put me off.

I understand the need for world building, but it is a really slow start (about 2 hours of cutscenes when you first start the game) which i guess is what caused all the negative critics as no one is willing to make it past it. But once past the slow start it does make for a incredibly fun game later on (past chapter 3).

One of my major annoyances of this game is the credits. I think i watched the credits 5 times throughout this game and its completely unskippable. I understand the need to see who worked on this game but when it is literally the actors name and Kojima's name popping up 4 times with only 1 full length credit scene it seems way to excessive and unnecessary. It's like Kojima wants to reinforce the fact that HE made the game constantly... Credits should only be viewed once, MAX twice.

Difficulty. You literally cannot lose in this game if you have enough blood bags, which is a bit annoying since you then end up fighting really recklessly if you don't have any important cargo. Considering how well you're supposed to plan for the trips the combat doesn't make up for it. But BT's are still fun to dodge.

It can get a bit too repetitive, but what open world game isn't repetitive? The storyline definitely makes up for this.

    Conclusion:
This game isn't for everyone. But none of the critics ever mention how great the storyline which shows that none of them ever finished it or ever gave it a proper chance which the story itself is a solid 10/10. The gameplay is quite different to traditional games where there is as much of a focus to help other people as well as do things for yourself. I guess people aren't used to helping out other people or maybe never considered it to be fun to actually be a good person and help other actual real life people.

If you want some weird story only Kojima can come up with and building stuff so make your delivery man life easier this is it. Expand

I do realize that this game is not for everyone. I agree, the game does have problems, but it is also one of the most imaginative gaming experiences in recent memory.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
