This game really does have a lot of positives.

The graphics are very good and the game itself is very much in the RE style. The game has a good set of options to make all the necessary adjustments for playing the game itself. In my opinion there are two major issues this game has that lets its overall quality down.

    1. The guns in this game feel like toys and thus detract majorly from the game and its gameplay.

    2. Even more than the first point the reload system and interaction from the inventory is so bad.

If the devs do read these reviews (and I hope they do) PLEASE fix these two issues and I feel you would improve this game immensely.

Overall this game is a very decent game that is let down badly by the two main points mentioned above in my opinion. The game itself would be so much better if they were fixed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Talk about a game thats hot and cold. Daymare is a love letter to everything horror and retro but sadly some features stop it from seeing its full potential. The good: old school survival horror gameplay. If you love the classic RE gameplay like me then pick 90's mode. Its how it should be played. The easter eggs and references are really cool to see and you can feel the love the developers have for classic horror and sci fi franchises. The soundtrack is very good, love the use of synth is used in the game.

The bad: weird how a game that was meant to be a fan made remake of RE2 has worse voice acting than the original RE2. hell, its even worse than the first RE game, Dr Atherton and Liev are the worst offenders Atherton sounds like a Btec Moss from I.T crowd and Piev's voice is just so hamfisted. The story is also baffling and more nonsensical than the room. Characters talk about things we dont know about, character motivations switch put of the blie. Liev betraying the squad for no reason and sandman surviving. All in all it's ok. Just really inconsistent. If you love classic survival horror then i'd get this. If it's on sale then defo get it

Another game I couldn't wait to play, as a fan of the 90s survival horror games! And in a way, it's exactly what I wanted, and what I expected. A game with a 90s feel and design. Is it broken? Sometimes, definitely seems that way. Is it bad? No. Definitely worth a look if you like the genre. But definitely not a great game. There were better survival horror back then, and better now. Expand

this is a good RE tribute. a good story and cool 90's cult references. the game play plays like a fresher RE title while still holding some of the survival horror shooter tendencies. have played through twice and did encounter a few glitches that required a reload from auto checkpoints . 1 glitch unfortunetly was game breaking and i had to completely restart. though i didnt like the lastthis is a good RE tribute. a good story and cool 90's cult references. the game play plays like a fresher RE title while still holding some of the survival horror shooter tendencies. have played through twice and did encounter a few glitches that required a reload from auto checkpoints . 1 glitch unfortunetly was game breaking and i had to completely restart. though i didnt like the last chapter, i'd give the rest of the game some huge thumbs ups !!!!! Whilst it’s not unplayable, it’s not far off. It’s trying too hard with its story scenario hopping all over the shop, coupled with an inventory management system that just doesn’t work in this kind of game.

Daymare: 1998 is a well-honed zombie experience that lacks originality but scratches the itch of those interested in the modern zombie game. It provides an alternate take on the traditional Resident Evil story, one that deals more harshly with the real-world consequences of investigating government science. Everything has a level of varnish, from environmental details to the documents that you read. Some of this must be counterbalanced with the fact that the game is a doppelganger. The well-crafted aesthetics also resemble the Resident Evil remakes, the Evil Within franchise, and countless others. Re-creation is many times easier than synthesis, allowing more time for attention to polish.

I was hoping that Daymare: 1998‘s intentionally schlocky feel and cheesy voice acting it would result in an enjoyably old-school experience that Capcom’s re-releases don’t quite nail, but the technical issues, dull action and lack of fresh ideas mean it’s never more than a pale imitation of the real thing.
