I love the Darksiders series, the first one was a masterpiece and the second, with it's downfalls was still close enough to count as one as well. The third feels a bit off to be honest. The world is back to closed zones much like the first one, with many paths and off shoots closed off with powers you get later, giving it that metroidvania style feel I love so much. The third feels a bit off to be honest. The world is back to closed zones much like the first one, with many paths and off shoots closed off with powers you get later, giving it that metroidvania style feel I love so much. Many of the riddles were fun to solve and some even had me for a few minutes and had those fun "oooh" moments. The only reason it's got an 8 is because I do not like dark souls, never been able to play any of those games as I find it frustrating. But I didn't here so it's not that bad, you loss souls on dying but the game has a difficulty bar and you can play on lower difficulties if you don't feel like farming souls and being on edge the whole time. No stamina bar is also a great deviation from the souls formula I very much welcomed. Although I hate the lack of a map and I do not understand why this one unlike the others chose to not include one in game.
The world still feel great and the characters are imaginative and fun as always (I love the always angry Fury, She is hilarious at times).
Game is an 8 but got a 10 to balance unfair 0's (no game is a 0!)

TL;DR - A great addition to the series and a must for any fan. The dark souls addition is annoying but not as much to ruin the experience.

What is wrong with you guys? DSIII is a great game and I enjoy it a lot as a fan of the series. It had issues, allright. Issues were patched a few days later, so what? This game does not deserve your bad ratings. Stop being toxic. Same goes for the press reviews. Shame on you!

I played it late, after all patches, and I must say that I had a blast with it. At first I was a bit disappointed, expecting it to be more like Darksiders 2 but, halfway through, I forgot about all my grievances. I give it a 10 even though I consider it to be an 8,5.

    Bueno, bonito y barato.

At the beginning of the game I did not like the DS system, but then it became easier to play even on the Apocalypse. There are no very large corridors that you need to walk for hours and look for keys for 10 doors to go to the boss. But in the game there are places where Vulgrim is very far from the boss and it is very distressing. The plot of the game as always is great. BUT it is very difficult to understand whether the actions of the game go before the first part or after the first part, although at the end they say that everything happens after the first part, but there are discrepancies at the beginning.
The character has learned to run and this is very cool, in other parts of this is not enough. This game is definitely very good.

I felt Furry was a cool character and she has a good story to prove herself among the other horsemen, but I still like war and death more as the main character. I really enjoyed the darksouls play style which really added a much needed difficulty level to the series. The metroid level design was a great addition as well, no maps just a compass to direct you to the next sin. On the way to defeating each sin there are many secrets and collectibles to find that make you want to search every corner of the map. The environments look amazing definitely best in the series. The gameplay is tight and well responsive the dodge window is well done and once you get the timing down on enemies you will be smashing your way through them. The boss battles are all amazing and remember-able, each sin has their own unique move set and personality based on their names. Fury will unlock 4 different weapons besides her main whip throughout her journey and each one has their own unique moves set. The only reason I didnt give Darksiders 3 a 10 was because the loading times while playing would pause you mid whatever your doing and load. Also the frame rates would drop low while in a heavily populated area. I bought Darksiders 3 on sale for $20 and to me was worth every penny, I would of gladly paid more. Expand

They are just a small team and you guy expected too much, as my opinion i see the game was fine, the combat really date back to Darksiders 1 and come on, this is game industry, it is art, and art doesn't meant to be always realistic, if it so it call photograph, every game got it own art style, why the hell it had to be always super realistic, it just give me so much headache, do the same peoples hate cartoon as well because it not "realistic" enough ?
As i see Fury was a deep character, she got her own personalities, not emotionless robot.
This 9 not just for the game but also for the developers, if you cannot support new developers for their work despite of the team, for their ambitious and confident, don't expected gaming industry get out of hell circle.

The game is pretty good based on the budget it had. The critics who say its not good , maybe has some other agenda. People try this game once, its a good game in the series. It finishes on the positive note that we might see the forth horsemen. Support a smaller studio once and play it yourself and make your opinion then its way better than most of the AAA bugged mess we see these days.

The plot is as usually convoluted and with almost no info is provided how it fits the timeline of the series. But I still like the apocalypse theme, I love the cartoonish touch, I like the combat and the Dead Souls-lite formula. It’s a little tacked on, but at least they are trying to highlight that each Horseman is different. I am simply having fun playing this. The maps are a bit bland but their design is very, very good. It’s a Castelvania style game done good. I really recommend this game to series fans. It’s a must play. For new to the series - probably you should start with Darksiders 1 to appreciate it. Over the course of the game you'll gather new weapons and abilities to open up new combat options and areas of the world to explore. With tons of secrets hidden away, there's always plenty to do as you snowball in power. The platforming starts off being quite basic but as you play you can unlock ways to glide, double jump or even freeze parts of the world. These also open up some interesting environmental puzzles to give some variety from the combat. There's also a New Game Plus mode, giving access to new tiers of upgrades and changes to enemy spawns - there's a lot of replayability here so there's lots to keep you busy.

The developers have addressed many issues raised by other reviewers here. A patch has been released to enable 'classic' combat to it more like previous games in the series instead of the Dark Souls style and while the dodge system can take some time to get familiar with, there are augments in game that make the window much easier to hit.

I noticed a few performance issues but nothing that spoiled my experience (it was largely some frame rate drops in dense areas). Because I played it a little later, it's likely they've released performance patches since the first reviews were written.

Overall, Darksiders 3 may have had a rough launch but is a solid entry in the series that's worth checking out if you like adventure games with a focus on engaging combat.

Overal the difficulty was pretty ok, aside from one bossbattle midgame which was really a spike in the difficulty

The story is ok. I would rate it a little better than the second game, but lower than the first game which sets the tone of the whole story. It has some great twists. I really enjoyed them as i didn't expect some of them to happen.
The characters are pretty solid. The best thing they nailed in this game is Fury and her great personality. Strong, sarcastic and in need of anger management therapy. As the story progresses it's easy to see that her personality evolves pretty well after each enemy encounter. She is still Fury, but finds a purpose for her life and she's not the same hot headed maniac. Ok, she'll still be the same hot headed maniac, but wiser with better decisions. The other characters are solid as well.
The dialogues are funny, the sounds are good as well. There are times when fury does some bad ass things and the music plays a certain tone. It reminded me a bit of God of War 3's epic moments.
The sounds and music are in tone with every area or level and connect very well.
As much as i liked these parts of the game, i saw the level design as beign quite mediocre. When you're hunting the seven deadly sins, you would expect them to live in fancier houses and not just that. You don't have a minimap or something like that. I can't say i got lost or something, but some areas were pretty chaotic.
I got myself in some fights while i was in tight spaces and i hated it because the only dodge that i could've made was going backwards. If i tried to dodge left or right i could've been easily hit. Some enemies through at you a 180 degrees attack.
Vulgrim returns again with his soul shop. The shop reminds me of the shop from devil may cry. Ex.: if you buy a "health potion", the next one you buy, will be more expensive.
The game also has other bugs. Sometimes the textures didn't load as intended and some characters needed a couple of seconds to load from ps2 to ps4 pro. I also encountered a crash.
As a conclusion, the game has its flaws, but it's worth playing. I recommend it.

I love the Darksiders series. D3 is, once again, different from its predecessors, but retains the core of combat and exploration. The main new mechanics are Hollows, elemental powers that you use in combat and puzzle solving. I found these to be extremely fun and well implemented.

I appreciated the difficulty settings - dark souls style unforgiving combat is insanely tedious. Easy mode was perfect for me (and you can still die pretty easily, though tear through enemies in return).

The growth of Fury's character as she hunts down the seven sins is a lot of fun to watch. The writing quality is not super consistent, but it gets the job done. And there's some legitimately laugh-out-loud moments.

It has very noticeable performance issues on PS4 - frame drops, stuttering, and an occasional crash. This port needed more work.

Even with all that, I really enjoyed my time with Fury.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another great entry in the Darksiders series and another severely underated one. I had a great time playing this game. I found that the combat was feeling great and that they built the world in a really intelligent way (each area is interconnected with the others ) and the more we progress, the more our new abilities allow us to use shortcuts. I never played souls game before but I read that the game design is similar. I can confirm that it looks like Metroid Prime also in term of level design.

I don't understand why some people are giving this game low scores like that. I mean the developers did a great job with the limited budget they had and this game is better than a lot of so-called AAA games.

For the negatives, I can say that the game is likely to crash sometimes but nothing that prevented me to complete the game. The graphics quality is a bit less than the average and there are important difficulty spikes in this game which makes it less accessible than Darksiders II. I beat this game on Normal difficulty and I'm quite experienced in videogames. I would understand someone chosing to beat this game on story mode as even normal is difficult .

Overall, a great game for me, it's an easy 8/10 !

As we all know Darksiders is a fan favorite due to it's art style, lore, story, hack 'n' slash combat, and lovable, or shall I say, unlovable characters. Also because it's a game that removes you from real life, and into fantasy. And isn't that why most of us play video games? For the escape? The franchise has aways taken inspiration from other games, and this time around we can clearly see Metroid and Dark Souls, yes, even I hate hearing that in reviews, but in this case, it's true.
In this 3rd game, they've taken bits and pieces from the first two things, removed a lot, and added a lot. Which isn't a bad thing, as this is how games change and evolve. Whether you miss the chests, the horse riding, or even the hundreds of weapons/armour loot, there are still some finishers and plenty of things to add to your inventory, upgrades, and ass-kicking to be had. The creativity with Fury & her attitude, as well as each of the Seven Deadly Sins, makes for quite the game just vocally during gameplay and cutscenes. The mixture of it all flows nicely.
Now, is this my favorite game of the series thus far? I don't know yet, as I plan to do another complete run through to help decide. But, what I will say is, at the end of the day, it's still indeed a Darksiders game. It feels, plays, and looks like a Darksiders game. And that to me, as a huge fan since the beginning, is extremely important!
Don't let some of the bad reviews hinder your experience. A lot of the performance issues have been resolved or are in process. And most of the reviewers haven't even completed the entire game and are basing their opinion off an hour or two. If you love the franchise and this game interests you, go get it, and let your own experience decide your own opinion, not someone else's. I'm sure you wont regret buying it.

The fighting mechanics are fun to me as a whole. I was stuck on fighting wrath for a little bit because I was not paying attention to his attack patterns. Once I slowed myself down and paid attention to his attack patterns I was able to beat him easy. Another thing with this game is that my opinion is that I am enjoying the game as a whole. Now be aware that as the game stands currently you can tell that they rushed it out of development in the late stages because it is blatantly obvious that they did not scrub through for glitches. The frame rate and stuttering issues are annoying. Also if you are a person on the fence about buying the game stop looking at the reviews people are putting up on various websites and go watch a few lets plays of the first portions of the game so that you can see if it is a game you want to play.

The original release had Dark Souls inspired combat based on perfectly timed counter attackes. You have to wait for an attack and then dodge during a small window to do high damage. Some enemies will block all other attacks, making counter attack essential to play the game. The problems are 1) the lack of notifaction of an attack, 2) not all attacks can be dodged, and 3) combat slows down to a crawl and is not fun. The update lets the player character, Fury, dodge attacks easier and generally strike faster. The counter attacks are still an important part of the game, but if you want to dodge and attack like in Darksiders 1 and 2, you are free to do so. Note to developers, stop Dark Soulsifying your games.

While combat has always been interesting in Darksiders, the real gem was the look and feel of the series. You see it in Darksiders III on a smaller scale. There are graphical issues Fury's hair, for example, looks as stiff as anything you might see in a PlayStation 2 game. Fury is also not nearly as stylized as her brothers War and Death and her design is as generic as anything you would see in the 1990s. You can also forget about realistic lighting and shadows. At least in a Darksiders first, I only fell out of the map once, making this the least glitchy Darksiders ever.

My issue with the design in Darksider 3 is mainly the small scale of the game. Most of the areas are re-used reused subways or ramshackle wooden platforms. The horseman's steed is gone because none of the areas are large enough to traverse on horseback. I feel like the developers only had the resources to make a large world like Darksiders 1 and 2 or a detailed world that would look better on current gen hardware. I don't blame them for choosing the latter, though I would have been dissapointed if I had spent $60 on the game. The enemies, especially the bosses, are as imaginative and resplendent as ever. The underwater areas are a major upgrade from Darksiders 2. You can sometimes see glimpses of something amazing, before you go back to the cookie-cutter tunnels. Not helping is the simplicity of the story, which is just hunting down and defeating the seven deadly sins.

The upside is that the smaller game world means less of a grind. Upgrade material constantly drops and I never felt like I had to kill old enemies to level up in order to take on new enemies. The problem is that most of the upgrades require an NPC that has to be found on the map or accessed via loading screens. To solve the first problem, Vulgrim the vendor demon is found almost everywhere, after every third hallway or so. Still, having to bring gameplay to a dead halt every few fights is not fun. The loading screens to interact with the armorer are even less fun. You can also forget about witty banter with blacksmiths like in God of War. Upgrading weapons in Darksiders 3 is simple busy work. I would love for a developer to eschew the upgrade system and have a character go from start to finish with the default gear like Master Chief in the Halo games.

Now for the unpopular opinion. I am glad the game is short. I picked up Darksiders III as a "free" PS Plus game, and the value proposition is therefore meaningless. What matters to me is the quality of the experience. The shorter game means a higher percentage of fights are premiere boss fights. It means spending less time grinding for experience, less time backtracking, and less time looking for that one path you passed early in the game that you can now unlock with your new weapon. More is not always better. For what it is, it is not that bad.

Basically just the ugly parts of darksiders one.. builsdings, subways, wood.. and one gorgeous underwater level.. but this is definitely the lowest effort game in the trilogy… no horse this time, just follow the skull on the map, do annoying frustrating not fun at all puzzles, and take down the 7 deadly sins which was the coolest part to me.. I was excited to see the twist of each one.. and sadly its just a run of the mill boss battle, .. the character design can be cool, but the battles are super lame.. as you progress the story youll unlock 4 different forms, a fire that can help you jump hier, electric that can help you levitate, some purple rock smashy power, and finally a power that lets oyu walk on water… and what does the game do with these powrs? They annoy you.. especially in the final few hours, forcing you to juggle them, hit this with this form, quickly switch to this form mid puzzle to freeze it in time to progress,.. mind you.. transforming is not intuitive, you gotta hold and press certain buttons all while making ssure youre zoomed in with the boomerand and selecting with l2 and throwing with r2 all while holding l1 down and going through the face buttons trying to remember who is who.. I hted it.. I hated every time a puzzle required 2 chracters simultaneously to solve… other than that I love the darksiders formular of collect osuls, spend them on upgrades, its as addictive here as it is in the previous games..
I midly enjoyed my time here, tracking down the 7 deadly sins, but wow did darksiders go from AAA potential to single A real quick

Darksiders 3 is an interesting mishmash of gameplay design choices that never quite coalesces into something great, but is fundamentally dragged down by a terribly mediocre story that is defined by awfully conceived characters and woefully written dialogue. It's a shame then, because the combat is relatively engaging despite some clunky design flaws.

darksiders 3 wow after 6 years they finally released another game will this game be good like the first one or is it meh like the second one let me explain everything in my review
this game is a hard core dark souls like hack and slash game that tells the story about the four horsemen of the apocalypse this game takes place in the middle of the first one when war was taken prisoner by the charred council and it happens in the middle of the second one where death goes on a quest to prove his brothers innocence now ill get straight to the pros and cons

    pros:

-game is awesome combat is satisfying and you finally start with a horseman who is not depowered or wounded

-the fact that there is no map just a compass and that's it just explore makes the game all the more thrilling

-finally you don't need to get other peoples weapons and tools and the only new weapons you get is basically this elemental ones called hollows there is fire ice electricity and force and each one has its own weapon with combos

-fury is easily the best horsemen because of her commentary over things sometimes even breaking the forth wall just makes you laugh and get connected to the character

    - the environment is just beautiful and the enemies feel like they are just wondering their own business and not awaiting your attack same goes for the bosses you can actually see them chilling over some place and you needing to get there

    - this game punishes you for being greedy with your attacks this game is really hardcore about the combat and you need to dodge and learn your enemies attacks before you attack yourself kinda like dark souls

-the currency in this game is very similar to dark souls and some other stuff you can see where they got the ideas from for example there is a shard called undying shard which is basically like Tears of Denial where when your health drops to a zero you get some health back and a second chance

-there are some jaw dropping moments that even made my jaw hit the ground

    cons:

    - the story escalated to quick barely giving you a chance to get really into the story

-the parkour and the jumping stuff got a huge downgrade compared to the second game

    - the amount of bug and glitches and rendering issues is to much sometimes making me quit the game and take a break from that it needs to get fixed fast

-story is just to short and shallow

    - bosses aren't that interesting or challenging plus no additional side bosses or side missions

-the lack of horse riding although you are a HORSEMAN but yea what ever

-no replay value what so ever and no new gameplus

    - valgrim is a pain and for some reason they made it harder to buy health shards by upping the price of anything you buy everytime by a small amount but at some point its just to much

in conclusion this game is really good and i had a blast playing it it does have some bad moments but i gotta give some slack to thq nordic because this game was really low budgeted unlike the other triple a games in the market right now i wish they will learn of their mistakes and the next game they make will be a 10 but for now i give darksiders 3 a 7.5 out of 10

However, after several hours of game play I felt rather disappointed with the experience. Not only did the game fail to live up to my (probably slightly over exaggerated) expectations, but was ultimately a step backwards from its predecessors. I feel as if the developers gave up everything that set them apart to create a less impressive dark souls clone.

While still fun, the game feels like a clunky/unrefined God of War 3 combat system mixed with multiple aspects typically associated to Dark Souls and some mild platforming. If careless, or sometimes just unlucky, normal enemies are capable of swiftly dispatching your mythical horseman Fury as if she was some mediocre foot Soldier. Even Leveling Fury’s stats had minimal impact as enemies seemed to scale up with every point I gained. Combing this with the flawed camera and less than ideal “last bonfire visited” checkpoint system, I found myself rather frustrated instead of enjoying the intricacies of combat I remember from the previous games.

Sadly, I can’t claim to have stumbled across a lot of hidden appeal beyond the dash-and-counter slash combat. With limitless potential on interesting lore, the game ultimately delivers an underwhelming and forgettable story. Nothing really connected me to Fury’s motivations or really pulled me into the game.

In the end, I feel the creators attempted to piggy-back off the success of the Dark Souls franchise while maintaining their own distinct combat style and failed to deliver a solid product in either area. I would rate this a 6.8 out of 10 for being a fun game, but far from great.

I love Darksiders. That is why my score is so high. Before D3 I played remastered versions, and I think they look better than D3. And that is a dick move THQ! Overall - I enjoyed it quite, but I can see a lot's of impovements need to be done (both - aestetic, and gameplay!)

It takes *heavy* influences from the Soulsborne games, from character progression, world design, -fast travel points, looping interconnected world- the high difficulty, and combat.

Graphics: Not top notch, but I liked the art style. They are serviceable. There are some frame-rate drops, not too bad, but sometimes do affect the flow of play, for example in the middle of combat. The lighting effects from Fury's different forms are really nice and sometimes come in to play while traversing the world.
There are really annoying freeze-frame loading spots where you need to wait for the game to load the next area.

Sound: Nothing mind blowing, but they work well, some minor audio "speaker cuts" but they aren't terribly distracting

Story: Love it, the reason you play this game is for the continuation of the first 2 games of story. The lore is awesome, the characters are interesting and offer a lot of development. Fury's character growth throughout is fun to watch and experience.

Gameplay: It has its positives and negatives. It is more difficult than the others, you'll need to pay attention to enemies and predict, dodge, and evade effectively if you want to survive. But for the most part they telegraph their attacks fairly well keep an eye out and learn the timing. You have a small invincibility window at the very start of your dodge, but it does not last the whole dodge, so if you miss the timing, you might get smacked. The i-window gets smaller with each higher difficulty so bear that in mind as well.
The other abilities you acquire add some interesting puzzle mechanics. The puzzles in this entry I feel are better than the previous ones, but there are places where you will get stuck scratching your head unable to understand what to do.
The other abilities may be interesting, but I feel the other weapons don't add much. You can beat the entire game using only your main weapon, without even touching the others and you wouldn't lose out on much. They don't really alter the flow of combat or change your approach at all, which is disappointing because there could have been some huge potential to really make the combat more dynamic.

There are some technical issues that need to worked on, game crashes, in the 20ish hours it took me to beat the story, I crashed about 3-4 times. A few minor bugs that aren't too impactful, and some issues with script cues triggering.

Don't expect game of the year, but it is enjoyable for what it is.

I have been a Darksiders fan since the first game, and I was impressed by the aesthetics of the characters and the environment of the first two games. I also found it quite interesting mixing the puzzle solve of TLOZ series and the combat of games like good of war or devil may cry.

I can say that the third installment of the series is an interesting change of direction. Making the beautiful world they have created, into a giant puzzle to figure out "where to go" or " what actions to take in this stage", and changing the combat style from hack 'n' slash to a dark souls like combat style. It is obvious to see that Darksiders 3 is a game that the producers at gunfire games are trying to make a game that they feel is good, and I will give them credit for it.

The character design in the game has also been an amazing as ever. Each character feels very unique as the design shows many of their different aspects of the characters personality, such as Avarice(greed), a goblin like boss, who carries a giant sack of treasure on his back, or wrath, a giant fiery warrior cladded in silver armor.

The environment is also amazing. Whether you are travelling the ruined cities of Earth or in the dark depths of the hallow, each environment feels distinct and gives off this idea of what it would have looked like before the seals were broken. Whenever I have the moment, would just take in the look at the environment of the level I am working in. The levels are also filled with secrets to look for, which contain items that can be used to either level up fury or upgrade her arsenal.

I do want to say that I have no problems with this game, however, due to the amount of bugs, load screens, awkward camera angles and frame-rate drops that constantly plague the game as you go through it, it makes it difficult to continue the game in one sitting. It is understandable that gunfire is working with a low budget and not as many developers as any other triple-A title would have, but I believe the first two games had the same situation and did not find as many bugs or glitches compared to the third installment.

Darksiders 3 is definitely a game to own if you are a fan of the eternal battle between the armies of heaven and hell. However due to the amount of bugs that you will encounter, will make it hard for you to grind through.hopefully gunfire will be able to fix a majority of these through future updates. Although, If you want to buy the game, the PC version seems to be the one that is running the best.

Load screens. Although save points are convenient, the time to reload is similar to Bloodborne after it first came out, before it was patched, if anyone can remember that. There are a couple of boss fights that take a few tries to learn how to get passed. Sucks.

Game freezes/pauses to load areas. If you run to quickly between areas, the game will freeze for several areas to load next area. Worst examples actually freeze and you can see I drawn areas pop in.

Unrealized Game Mechanics. Without spoilers, your character learns different abilities. One ability I felt like I used almost the whole game and then later abilities seem like there to just progress to different areas. There are some combat mechanics with these abilities, but never felt as polished as it could.

Main characters personality. She just isn’t like able..

Graphics. Not good by this generations standards. However I still play Bioshock, BatMan, and Dark Souls so gameplay over graphics any day in my book.

What I like. Exploring. It is really cool. Lots of verticality and areas that interconnect and secrets. My favorite feature of the game. Combat isn’t half bad. It’s not great though but ok. I liked the overall gameplay, but I totally get why many can’t stand it.

The game is good, but unfortunately a huge step back from the previous entry. The boss design is very creative, but I'm not a fan of Fury. The game's gameplay really lacks tge diversity the previous two had, but it's sufficient. It's a good game, but a not too good Darksiders game. The soundtrack is also very forgettable. The aesthetics and map design are pretty good, though.

Well, as much as I love the story, I have to admit that this entry into the series wasn't really my favorite. I am not really fond of playing as Fury, but that isn't the problem because I like the concept of playing as every horseman. The graphics feel like it's on ps3, not ps4 and the controls feel a bit sluggish. Still a must if you're a fan of the series

I think is the worst game of the franchise but it's not a bad game at all. The main story is simple, find the seven deadly sins and beat them down. During the journey, Fury will meet some new characters and places.
Fury is a great fighter, very fast and agile. But the combos are very limited and there is no much difficulty in the combat. They added some new features seen in the Souls

It has some technical issues. Suddenly the game gets frozen or stop suddenly, which is really annoying. The loading screen are very long when you pass from one area to another.
In any case, is a funny game but it is not a good successor for the franchise. If you have the choice, will be better to play the first two games before this one

The only other critique I have is with the overall level design. It doesn't match with the level of awesome character models. The evirons in contrast are much more samey and just not as well

And I say this because I fullied Bloodborne and lots of the Dark Souls franchise and the comparison lacks a lot.

The story itself is lackluster without depths and I cannot say that I like the puzzles much. They seem to take out the pace of the game without bringing benefits to the player.

The semi open world design brings joy to me. I dont like the senseless wide open world games that are popular at the moment and Darksiders 3 is able to deliver a nice mix of world like atmosphere and guiding linear gameplay.

The difficulty is very irritating to me. On balanced a normal minion can kill you in 2-3 slashes which seems quite unforgiving and souls-like, then why bother with difficulties in the first place? Kinda left me frustrated with my own decision and expectation which the game induced into me.

Flaws, are apparent. When I stand right before cliff for minutes and I know I should be able to reach but it doesnt, there are two valid explanations, at least on PS4: frame dips on combos in certain areas or game design which you cannot anticipate. Both ends are bad and not enjoyable for me.

After all the game makes me really sad. I wanted to contribute to the game but it feels like a bad decision. Day zero patches that kills of HDR is something that shouldnt happen. Fast paced fighting with 20-25fps cannot happen because it denies every worthwhile experience the game is trying to create. Difficulty expectations should match. If its supposed to be Souls, dont bring settings beforehand.

After all the game cannot be rated higher then 6-7 because it compares itself to titles such as God of War or Dark Souls, which both highly exceed in technical aspects, polish and world depths. I still think you can have fun with this game but wait for patches and at least a 30% sale.

I didn't hate the story but they clearly put a lot more effort into one or two of the bosses dialogue than the rest of them. Feels like they didn't care about the beginning of the game.

I’d much rather have a meaty and engaging adventure that’s happy to embrace its videogame origins over a lavishly budgeted and beautiful ‘experience’ littered with dull introspective and endless navel gazing. Darksiders III gleefully provides the former while completely shunning the latter, and I’m all for it.
