If you’ve never played Dark Souls, I obviously encourage you to try the new edition. Otherwise this remaster is not worth much and to me the only notable advantage of the PS4 version was that I could finally unplug my PS3. [07/2018, p.64]

$40 is a steep price to pay for Dark Souls Remastered on consoles, especially since it doesn't benefit from the new licks of paint.

If there was more attention given towards improving what was already a great game, Dark Souls Remastered could have been perfect. Instead, it falls somewhere in this half-hearted limbo. Finally, it has a very stable and high frame-rate, but the collision and hit-detection is still unfairly off.

Dark Souls Remastered is a nice, shiny new edition of a game that I have never enjoyed. While I respect the game’s genre-creating precision gameplay and acknowledge it’s place in gaming history, I just don’t like this game, and can’t recommend it to new players. That said, it plays fine, and looks better than it ever has. Dark Souls fans already know who they are, and will enjoy this new edition immensely.

Rather than a remaster, it's a port. It will entertain mainly rock fans who want to have a complete collection on a new console or complete Souls novices. [Issue#287]

Providing you’re willing to persist with the tough nature of its opening hours, Dark Souls is one of the most rewarding games ever. And the challenge never truly lets up – you just learn to manage it. It’s not a special remaster but it is, still, a very special game.

Reviving Dark Souls means embracing these imperfections and leaving the majority of them intact. Save for a few glitches like the ability to gain infinite souls, Dark Souls Remastered keeps most of the original game’s flaws rather than significantly revamping or fixing issues with the original.

It has a steep learning curve, it will punish you, it will reward you should you persevere. Dark Souls Remastered is perhaps the best point to jump into a franchise that has defined a genre, but in at least some ways it is the most definitive version we now have, even if some details still need refining in the lighting department.

Too many people are using the excuse 'this is for new players' to defend this disgusting 'remaster'. Most remasters are FOR new players, butToo many people are using the excuse 'this is for new players' to defend this disgusting 'remaster'. Most remasters are FOR new players, but that does NOT mean that no work should be put in. This is a 7 year old game for $40 with very minimal changes. This is coming from someone who feels Dark Souls is one of the best games ever made and one of my personal favorites, this 'remaster' is a disgusting lazy cash grab that they KNOW people will buy because it is Dark Souls. That's not OK, and all supporting this port will do is show other publishers that it is OK to release old games almost exactly the same as they were originally and able them as remasters. Now I'm not expecting a remake and complete redesign of the game, but let's compare this remaster to another remaster. Skyrim SE, a game that got a LOT of hate yet was a better remaster by far. It made the game look MUCH better on console that the original did, with fairly substantial graphical updates, something DSR has not done. AND it brought mods to console, something which very few games has done. Now look at DSR, it's Dark Souls, but you can pop multiple souls at once, and roll on O. Oh and moving ivy. It gets 1 point because it's an amazing game, and 1 point because it's not full price ,(however $40 is still far too muc,) please don't support this game so this doesn't happen in the future. just because it's Dark Souls does NOT mean it's good. This game means a lot: not only is the game the pioneer of this genre, but also the foundation of later games such as Bloodborne and Nioh. IfThis game means a lot: not only is the game the pioneer of this genre, but also the foundation of later games such as Bloodborne and Nioh.
