I mention that because as a title that launched in a state just as bad as, if not worse than, Fallout 76 did, here is where it was said to have had the worst performance. Things have certainly come a long way. There are still bugs and glitches, but Cyberpunk has at least reached a point on the console where it is entirely playable. So while that does not make up for all the scummy things that went on behind the scenes, it does mean I have finally been able to experience the content it offers and can review the actual game itself, rather than just remarking on its technical shortcomings and CD Projekt RED's lies. A game that, while still good, is nowhere near what we were promised it was going to be.

Night City is a massive place filled with enough side-quests and odd jobs to keep you busy for hundreds of hours. Almost all of which have a level of writing comparable to that of GTA V's. The world itself is diverse, teeming with life, and is one of the best I've experienced in all my years of gaming. I often found myself forsaking driving and walking to my objectives just to take in the sights.

Unfortunately, your interactions with it are painfully limited narrative-wise. It's a good story. One filled with incredibly well-written and acted characters I grew to genuinely care about. It's just not even remotely as open-ended as they told us it was going to be. The main plot thread is very linear with each quest largely playing out the exact same way every time right up until you choose an ending. It makes multiple playthroughs kind of boring as you've basically seen everything it has to offer the first time around save for the actual different endings themselves. Yeah, you can pick another background for your avatar, but outside of the occasional dialog option this only affects which prologue you'll receive and has no real impact on the rest of the experience. Compare this to CD's earlier work The Witcher 2 where a choice you make relatively early on can take you to two entirely different areas complete with their own content and you have a noticeable and significant step back for the developer.

There are some other, more minor aspects of the game that aren't up to par as well. Like the character creation system that favors superfluous feeling cosmetic decorations over rather basic means of crafting facial structure. Did we really need the ability to select genital size in lieu of being able to shape foreheads? I think not. The shooting and driving controls are also loose, which led to a lot of tinkering in the menus before they became useable for me.

Forever marred by the dishonest and even illegal business practices of its creators and (at times VERY) rough around the edges, Cyberpunk 2077 is still worth playing for the things it does brilliantly and the myriad number of ways you can use technology to transform your body into the ultimate killing machine. In a lot of ways it was the futuristic gangster life simulator I never knew I wanted. Yet, this is far from the genre redefining RPG it was marketed as and lags behind its peers in some embarrassing ways given the talent putting it out. So when all is said and done this is merely a "good" game when it should have been the next big thing.

I've played a lot games in my day and this is one of the most creative and innovative stories I've ever seen. I wish the romances were a little meatier; they consist of 1) do a few missions for that character 2) flirt 3) have sex 4) basically never talk again until the final mission. A lot of promises that weren't kept and shady marketing practices hurt my final score as well. CD Project Red can do better and releasing the game in its current state is simply unacceptable. It's ironic that corporate greed has damaged the image of CDPR given the subject matter of the game and their new hero of Johnny Silverhand. Something tells me Johnny would think of CDPR the same way he thinks of Arasaka. 7/10 with lots of potential. Expand

I have just finished my second playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077, my first playthrough was on PC at release, and my most recent playthrough on PS5.

Replaying this game on console, in performance mode on my TV felt a bit more immersive however there were some issues straight out of the gate as I couldn't seem to configure my controls to feel snappy and responsive, I also experience frequent crashes, none of these entirely ruined the experience as save points weren't too bad, but it's still quite jarring and frustrating, this shouldn't be happening so many years after release.

As for the game itself, CDPR clearly poured countless hours into creating the world but didn't populate it with enough side-content. There are some great side missions, but the vast majority of them are just boring cut and paste (go here, kill/steal that, leave),

Vehicle handling is frustrating, taking some corners feels like you're driving on ice with how dramatically the car spins out, and there isn't a lot of variety to the vehicles themselves. Most are terrible, once I picked up the Caliban? I didn't need to bother with any other car.

The main story is decent, the voice acting is solid and overall presentation is great. I enjoyed the gunplay and hacking mechanisms, I also enjoyed the fact I didn't have to mess around with stealth, if things go loud you don't fail the mission and run through it guns blazing if you choose.

The item upgrade system is fundamentally flawed, I was at level 47 when I finished the game and did as much side content as I could stomach but I still couldn't fully upgrade my items. If you pick up an EPIC gun early on and upgrade it, it can end up more powerful than if you pick up a legendary later.

Overall I enjoyed my second time around in this game, I expect the new DLC and rebalances will be good, the game is rough around the edges but in no way deserving of the nonsense 0/10 scores below, nor the ridiculous 10/10 scores.

Let’s start with the pros, Cyberpunk 2077 is beautiful, lush, and violent that have you wonder what will you do next in Night City as things gets more interesting after settling with your own creation of V. Night City is grand and gritty to get lost into, the three different story perspectives are engaging, and the activities and customization choices are limitless that perfectly defines how a perfect RPG game should be made. And yeah, Keanu Reeves and the killer soundtrack of this game makes you feel like a badass when completing quests or killing civies just like GTA. Cyberpunk 2077 is indeed really fun and kickass, but the poor gameplay performance made it very frustrating as bugs and constant frame rate drops makes the game unplayable on base PS4/XONE consoles, but for those that don’t mind can still try to have fun. Even though, this is the last major game for the eighth console generation, it’s honestly rather disappointing that all that hype just plummeted down like it was nothing. The PS4 and XONE still have good GPUs to run this at native 25-30fps like how Rockstar has perfected with Red Dead Redemption 2 and Naughty Dog perfected with The Last of Us Part II and Uncharted 4, but why can’t CDPR deeply optimize it like they did? And is this a proper sendoff to the eighth console generation then? Anyhow, we’re grateful that CD Projekt Red finally released the “Blade Runner” game we’ve always wanted and we already got it. It sure as hell it ain’t a masterpiece due to an unexpected disappointment regarding to poor performance on last gen consoles at launch, but the whole entire game design is by far the most prestigious piece of work I have ever played until the game’s properly patched up. So don't be fooled by the hate. The game is very much playable.
During the game I was charmed by the atmosphere and writing of the game. It is one of the best storytelling you will see in a game. Dialogues and characters are written perfectly. Every relation with NPCs in a game feels almost real. They are not just quest givers but after series of events they are becoming your friends.
The main plot may be not original but it is masterfully told with plenty of tension, relations, twists and atmosphere. All the side missions are worth doing and each arc has some unique flavor (detective work, nomadic families, houses of pleasure, braindances, netrunners).
When it comes to gameplay, I would say that, Cyberpunk 2077 is a great story, but at most decent game. Sometimes it feels like the developers fell in love with story so much that they forgot that the player should be in control. There are whole sections where it doesn't matter what you do or what dialogue option you choose. Moreover I was surprised that I didn't wanto to level up. The leveling system is so complicated and yet meaningless that I was never looking forward to gain a level. Same with random tasks in the open world - I didn't care about them. In theory each of them had some story behind them, but it was told only through a note or call log and got repetitive after a while.
But even with all these flaws I spent more than 100 hours in the game and didn't feel tired of it until the end quest. I can recommend Cyberpunk. I think that the hype did caused a lot of harm to the game. The expectation were too high.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. im currently playing on ps4 pro, digital copy of game.
patch 1.04 in place. played around 20 hrs so far, met with teke at cafe in main story.

hardest thing i found is searching for a place to give feedback on the game, to help get bugs fixed. that annoyed me to no end
however, what i have found of the game so far
    good points
story has pulled me in, and the world being built is very contagious. i can see where they have put the tabletop into place ie roll the dice, perk and skill tree etc
graphically looks amazing, and sounds so good.
music and tone is there. NPCs, random convos and background chatter is good. news and adverts are crazy but funny. hovering speech to see if ya miss is a good idea.
gun combat is fun, melee is bit crazy, dying light/dead island style. i can see ppl having a problem with this though.

    bad points
-ok, sometimes a NPC doesnt load/render properly, looks out of place but is quick to go most times.
-car driving is good so far, jackies bike can be a mess at times, other bikes so far seem fine.
-open menu, and back into game, tells me i have broken down items. every time.
    - had a bug with bugbear, if accidently dropped body, it warped to diff locations of buildings. or vanished
    - hacked a camera, and when in normal game, the camera options and normal options on screen, had to go back a few autosaves to fix. (fixed possibly with 1.04 patch)
game closed down a total of 5 times now, which aint great.

all of this though, im still playing it. i am giving it a go, as i do bloody like it. it has a lot of potential, and i think if we had a easy to find bug report location,
( i had to go to CD project red website. if i searched 'cyberpunk 2077 feedbag/bug report', went nowhere ) then i know CDPR will get on it and fix it.
looking at some of the 0 or red reviews, i find none of those helpful, except **** and griping and barely plauisble feedbacks at all.
at ACT 2, game came more alive, seemed to be more ppl in streets and more activities, so i wonder if ppl are going multiple places instead of main story, and nothing has opened up yet.
again, id feedback to block areas off a little, till a certain story mission is open, then act 2 hits, boom everyone there. but cant blame gamers for going off into the world, i tried it myself.

so far, fun to play, bugs dont overly stop play, except when that error occurs ( incidentially, same error and blue screen close happens in COD cold war, spiderman and outer worlds, games i played)
not 100 perc, but not as bad as people are saying it is.
red dead redemption had flying ppl, the witcher 3 had problems to, but then was fixed to epic proportions, the division had ubisoft stop everything for a year to fix
(plus most of ubisofts games including Valhalla) have had its problems.
again, the red reviews are a bit much in my eyes
    hope this helps you all

    Negative:
game is very crashy and very buggy. Story and world building is not on the same level as Witcher 3. Feels like too much stuff was cut out from world building it is not as vertical world as people say , and half of pasifica is unreachable no subway system.etc, feels like more than half of the main story was cut out and other stuff and just by watching trailers you can see lots of stuff that is missing, Where is trauma team and psycho squad? at least i did not encounter them except in cut scenes. World kinda looks and feels empty and this makes game less immersive. World size also feels unbalanced compared to difficulty of main storyline not enough story compared world size and side missions. after grinding side missions you can easily be too over powered at the point when you go to final segment of the game. it seems game was designed to be played trough in hurry without really going trough most of the side content. Or most of the main story was just cut out and there was no time to balance side content with main story for me many character arcs started around time just before final segment and those were harder in difficulty than the end segment feels kinda stupid.

    Positive:
Game runs smoothly on ps5 until it crashes suddenly about every 2 hours but no biggie it loads game fairly fast back.. Nightcity and world looks stunning, I loved the storytelling and character arcs and story choices i can make in the game. Gameplay mechanics are fun there is many possibilities for different play styles, and all of those seemed deep enough to dedicate one playthrough. NightCity at its best feels very alive, immersive and real specially at start of the game but after about 15 hours it starts to feel generic.

This game has some same issues that ff15 had except this game is not that bad it actually it is very good but very unfinished and unbalanced and over hyped. Just give CDPR some time and they will fix this mess for sure. It is just shame to see cdpr crash and burn like this they seriously have to fix their internal problems before making next game.

The reason I revised the score is because I've now played for 70 hours and (bugs aside) it is actually a pretty good game. Yes, there is a lot of cut content that CDPR lied about, yes there are a lot of half baked ideas, yes many things are shallow or unfinished. Yes the AI is absolute trash (it almost doesn't exist at all. Really bad). But if you can get past all that (and I understand many people won't) then its a great game.

The attention to detail in the content that is there is incredible, far beyond most other games I've played in my 25 years of gaming. The characters are also some of the best of any game, as is the music. The main story is a bit meh (again, feels rushed), but the individual story beats and side stories are fantastic. Hopefully they will flesh it out more in DLC... Also, many complaints about missing missions/unfinished quests are actually not true: you can end a questline without knowing by making the wrong choices. There IS player choice, its just not in your face (no "blah will remember this") and while I wish there was more and more impactful choices, its wrong to say they aren't there. The city is also quite fun to explore. The filler content annoyed me at first, just seemed to water down the good bits, but now on my second playthrough, I'm actually having a blast playing the filler. At the time of writing this, I've played about 90 hours and I'm far from finished.

Its also worth pointing out that there is still more content here than most games (ignoring the big competitors like red dead 2) and the quality of "most" of the (non-filler) content that's here is top notch. Its just overshadowed by many many shallow, half assed or downright cut features and the CDPR exec's lies. And the bugs. Oh god the bugs.

So in summary: its a good game, with lots of cut content. CDPR hyped it up with features that don't exist (they lied, you could say) and that's not acceptable. Its also a buggy mess which is not acceptable. But beyond all of that, there is some really great content that few other games have.

MY RECOMMENDATION: If you can ignore the bugs and shortcomings, play it, its great! But for most people, I recommend waiting a few months and seeing if the bugs get fixed and what (if any) extra content they add or cut content makes it back. Its a good game, but most people should wait.

    Original review:
I'll start with the good and work to the bad:

The good: story, characters, atmosphere and overall world are great. The writing is very good.

The neutral: most gameplay is decent. Not amazing, but not bad. Eg shooting is ok, driving is ok, etc. Nothing mind blowing, but not bad. Personally, I'm not a fan of first person shooting with RPG-damage numbers. I hate when I shoot someone in the head point blank and they don't die because it only did 200 damage instead of 300. If I shoot you in the head, I expect you to die. For this kind of game, I greatly prefer third person games. I don't mind first person, but I would have preferred third person.

Now for the bad and oh boy its bad: The game is a buggy mess. Seriously, not fit for purpose. It should never have passed certification. It crashes, it glitches, it freezes, it has rendering problems, audio problems. Lots and lots of problems. Overall, besides some crashes (approx. one every 5 hours) it hasn't been "game breaking", but it is annoying. Very very annoying.
And the graphics. Oh my **** god, how did they think this is passable? When the game scales its resolution down, eg when driving, it looks much worse than GTA5 (a 7 year old game!), its super low resolution, super grainy. Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, Detroit, Red Dead 2 -- all of these games look far, far better.

Its a good game that should never have been released for current gen consoles and needs another year of development to fix bugs. Shame on CDPR for thinking they could get away with releasing this mess.

    - Some side jobs are repetitive and boring af.

Okay In one hand the core game is good the level design the side quests the story and the plot is awesome but in the other hand CDPR clearly was hiding something and it's unacceptable it was a shady move no base PS4 or Xbox one footage was shown and it's a lack of transparency and dishonest marketing because they know most gamers now have the base PS4 or Xbox one consoles and it's theOkay In one hand the core game is good the level design the side quests the story and the plot is awesome but in the other hand CDPR clearly was hiding something and it's unacceptable it was a shady move no base PS4 or Xbox one footage was shown and it's a lack of transparency and dishonest marketing because they know most gamers now have the base PS4 or Xbox one consoles and it's the largest audience i felt cheated and this is no way to handle the most anticipated game and the fans unfinished and broken I feel sorry for gaming industry in general I learned the lesson to never pre-order any game no matter how is the hype
Update : after hot fix 1.04 the game is more stable but not everything is fixed still poor graphics and frame-rate dips and sometimes games freezes for a second or 2 and to be honest I enjoy every bit of this game shout out to devs I know it's not their fault but rather a poor management and I am confident that the game will come around sooner or later to be what we expect in the end

I've waited for this game with such a passion. Wonder what can beat this emotion... Oh, right - the refund confirmation.

After patch 1.05 the game looks and plays better. Changing the score from 2 to 7 for now.

I was so hyped for this game. When I saw the gameplay (PlayStation Version) video by CD Project Red, my doubts where put to rest and I preordered the game. I stayed all night playing cyberpunk. It is not a sh*t game the user reviews reflect. When the game works and there is very little technical issues, it is a masterpiece. The Narrative is amazing!

It is not a sh*t game the user reviews reflect. When the game works and there is very little technical issues, it is a masterpiece. The Narrative is amazing! Characters are compelling and the story keeps you engaged. Night city is incredible! You really feel that you are in the future. Unfortunately the bugs are hurting it. T-posing, stuttering, characters getting stuck, lips syncing issues, items floating and flying, game crashes, frame drops, low quality textures and models, dumb enemies, sound bugs and etc. It required at least 2 or 3 months to fix the technical issues. CD Project Red said: “Coming when it’s ready”. I very disappointed at this beloved company, who seems to have a more friendly approach to gamers, unlike Activision and EA. If you are interested in the game do not buy it write now. Wait after they have released updates and patches.

I launched Cyberpunk 2077 on my PS4 Slim several weeks after the release and most of the bugs were fixed, so I was able to play the game from start to finish. However, the quality of textures was painfully low, I usually had only 20-22 frames per second while driving around the city (with dips below 20), and some objects tended to disappear. The technical state and graphics of the PS4 version are awful, which is a shame, because the game itself has one of the best stories I have ever encountered, its gunplay is really good, and Night City is very impressive. Cyberpunk 2077 is a game brimming with potential, and it damn near reaches it on so many occasions, but the pitfalls of its development ultimately drag it down. There's still a lot to like here for RPG fans and lovers of the genre, but it's far from the generation-defining masterwork that the world was waiting for.
