Full disclosure: I'm playing this PS4 game on a PS5. Also, I did not follow much of the hype for this game leading to release.

Full disclosure: I'm playing this PS4 game on a PS5. Also, I did not follow much of the hype for this game leading to release.

Having said that, I can't recommend this game in its current state. The number of bugs, many of which have crashed the game for me, is simply unacceptable in an allegedly AAA title. The graphics are nothing special (though I understand there is a lot of pop-in and slow texture loading on the base PS4) and the sound requires a lot of tinkering in the settings menu to get to an acceptable level. I found myself cringing for my neighbor's sake when the game would inexplicably blast heavy bass in background music, enough to rattle furniture, despite other sound elements being at a normal level.

It's not all bad. The story is interesting, and the voice acting is good. The gameplay systems are fun, even though some of the RPG elements appear designed to force the player into crafting their character into a min-max archetype. Certain perks and abilities require that you invest heavily into their associated stat, which could be good or bad. You also contend with both experience points and "street cred" points, which is odd, considering that you typically get both in equal measure.

Having said that, some of the systems don't seem to have been fully fleshed out. There is a crafting system, but not much to craft. By the time you can afford decent crafting plans and materials, you will be finding gear that is as good or better than you can make. You can earn crafting xp, which grants various bonuses as you level up, but without a good reason to craft, it's just another number to watch increase. Tutorials could have also been better. I was several hours in before I realized that I had items I could slot into my various cyber implants.

Overall, I would usually say give this one a few months to get the bugs ironed out. However, this game has been in the making for years. That this is what they have to show for all those years of work does not create confidence that the devs will be able to polish this one to an acceptable level. If you must play it, wait a few months. I expect spring '21 will see this one at half price.

They lost my trust originally but I figured I’d stick with it and give them a chance. Every update and patch has done very little. GTA San Andreas has better physics (especially water), human reactions, police, AI, and in many gameplay customization ways as well. That’s just sad. I cannot say this strongly enough…DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE FOR THIS GAME. Expand

The technical performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on Playstation 4 consoles is simply unacceptable. Hard crashes every few hours, soft locks, bizarre graphical and physics glitches, single-digit frames per second when things get hectic, and graphics on par with late PS3 titles. It's an absolutely embarrassing follow-up to The Witcher 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was so excited for this game, CDPR promised SO much, but my wife put it best as she watched me play it a few hours, "It's nothing we haven't seen before".

Every single thing you do in the game is 'go here and shoot this' when they promised a hugely immersive world with tons to do. A world where you could build your rep and such. At first I enjoyed myself doing some side jobs before starting the first big mission to grab the Relic. Well, as soon as I got the Relic all sorts of nonsense started to happen. Glitches and crashes seemed to happen more but I was also suddenly flooded with 20-30 jobs. People you haven't even met yet call and text you out of nowhere offering missions or cars for sale. I literally walked around for 30 mins getting flooded with nonsense! Let's talk about that Delamain quest where you have to retrieve his lost vehicles. Why in god's name is this not ONE quest with 8 objectives? Instead CDPR made it into 9 separate quests!? It's as if nobody at CDPR ever played any other RPG in their life and is a perfect example of all the missed opportunities they had to really make this game work.

I feel like they spent all their time just getting the thing to run on consoles and no time fixing the multitude of blunders littered throughout this game.

This game is hilariously broken on PS5****. Just when you think a new, expensive console can prevent this game from constantly hitching or dropping audio, think again.

Returned, bought a different game. I'll come back to this when it's on sale.

The game is fun when it works - when it works being the operative term.

Error code CE-1082551 which causes the game to crash has happened 7 times I’ve only played for 13 hours The driving is horrendous, texture popping horrible controls with dated crash physics Random items appearing in cutscenes. Including when Jackie is dying and handover the chip the chip was replaced with a giant pistol which took up half scene and just distracted from the moment entirely. The story will be good , the combat is okay nothing game changing but good for an RPG

This is looking like 8/9 game but there is just far too many issues which I’m seeing and it’s ruined the game. This game was announced for last gen and plays like rubbish on current gen. it’s not good enough.

Cyberpunk 2077 had the potential to be an awesome action RPG but somewhere in development it was lost. It is clear that this game is unfinished. What a AAA flop that rode in on the hype train! What we have here folks is one shiny chocolate dipped turd of a game! I definitely do not recommend Cyberpunk in the current state it is in.

First off, I will say that this game is one of the most missed opportunities in gaming history. The stroy is actually unique and interesting, however the game is a major glitch fest and ruins what may have been a classic game. I played this on ps5, so I have no issue with reported horrid frame rates.

+ Very nice city design and atmosphere with detailed environments.
+ Interesting story and many varied dialogue options.
    + decent acting.

    - Cluttered and confusing menus.
    - Politics and some woke themes forced in.
    - Horrendous Collison and driving physics
    - Glitches galore! Too many to mention, including game crashing!
    - limited side activities.
    - Some invisible walls during missions.
    - Police chases are very weak.

I wanted to love this game, but there was just too many reasons to be disappointed. Maybe a complete edition will come out in a few years and fix this mess. Until then I give it a fail mark of 4/10.

The frame rate is not bad but I'm on ps5 so I have headroom. CD ProjectRed HAS to get the NEXT-GEN version right! I can't in good conscience give this game even a decent rating because of ALL of it's issues!

The most important negative thing about this game is that it's obviously a Beta version, if not Alpha, of a AAA game. i personally believe the rumors that the Developers thought 2022 was the soft target date before they announced Q2 of 2020 during E3 2019. With COVID, this game should have been released in Q4 2023. But AAA games aren't going to be worked on for three more years after released, so I believe this game will never be what it was intended. It would take three years of a studio full time to have brought this game to "RDR2 levels", which CDPR themselves claimed. It's that unfinished when coming from a studio that made W3 and in an age of GTAIV even, should have been the minimum bar for cars, physics, and player customization? So this game is a lost cause. Not by lack of skill or effort from the talent at CDPR, but from upper management forcing this game through. You could blame the death threats that were being doled out every time this game got delayed, but part of that is the amount of times it was delayed. Dying Light 2 comes to mind. It was slated to release Q1 2020, but then just got pushed back indefinitely. Sure, people were upset, but not near as upset when there are three push-backs (April, Sept, Oct, Dec).

Now, let's talk about playability: The very first time I booted up the game, it failed. I booted it up again, knowing the PS4 was underpowered for this game, and immediately turned down the settings in the main menu. I then couldn't even back out of the settings menu, and restarted the game. I was told the games settings file was corrupted, and have since seen a dozen or so crashes in a dozen or so play hours. Cars flying everywhere, characters getting stuck in walls, music, physics, and a slew of other bugs are rampant. I can have faith those will eventually get patched, and I'll be getting a PS5 later this year and was offered a free digital copy on that console, so not too terribly focused on that right now. I should be, but the state of the core gameplay fully overshadows it. There are some really cool parts of the game as well as details, but this game can't even touch the sandbox worlds of even GTA:SA or RDR1, as well as the RPG and details of the the Witcher 3. I have much respect for CDPR, but thinking upper management will probably turn this studio into the other top AAA studios; they'll eventually cut their losses and move on to their next game long before this game will be anywhere near where it should have been. I could go on and on. I can post a video of heavy glitches and bugs for every five minutes in-game! I could compare the lack luster game aspects to Saints Row 2 and a Mafia game and come out behind even those games, but I'll stop here. Sure, not many other games like this to play right now, so some people might as well buy it and enjoy it. But the new top brass at CDPR has ruined an opportunity to release a game of the decade, and will potentially ruin one of my favorite studios forever. Absolutely soul crushing for me...

I am currently at Act 2 and if I overlook all the glitches then I am still disappointed.

    From a base PS4 perspective.
    - The fps drops massively.
    - The cars feel bad to drive with.
    - The guns feel bad to shoot with.
    - The Dualshock interactions have delayed actions.
    - The tutorials and instructions are massive.
    - The menu is bad is mainly PC-mouse focused. Using the d-pad gives slow navigation. Besides you cannot use the d-pad in certain parts of the menu and the mouse curser is always visible, it will never disappear.
    - The camera is always in first-person which makes mediocre cinematography. Thankfully you can zoom out of the car.
    - The open world is difficult to navigate through because the mini map dominates the experience. I have to look at the mini map when making a turn which makes me do lots of 180 degree turns. The game does no guide me on the road (Arkham Knight or Tsushima) or guides with an advanced compass (God of War).
    - The characters are boring especially V, since I do not know the motivations that drives the character.
    - The loading screens takes forever!
+ I do like the RPG elements where different choices makes a big impact especially the past since it gives more choices.
+ The guns have lots of varieties.
+ Body parts are varieties as well.
    + Game playthroughs are varied.
    + Lots of vehicles.

    From a marketing perspective.
    - Cyberpunk 2077 should not have been a current gen game, only a next-gen game.

The graphics are where it can be very noticeable. Sometimes buildings, cars and people look amazing and smooth, however most of the time I'm seeing pop-in and draw distance issues even when I'm trying not to notice them. Far too many times have I seen characters flail around like a ragdoll due to glitches. Far too many times I go to draw my gun but the graphics for it do not load, resulting in my character looking like a deadly street mime. There were even times where I would run into an area ready for a fight only for the enemies not to have loaded properly yet, meaning when they do I am stood right in the middle and die within seconds. These things happen far too often to overlook.

The gameplay is still an incomplete mess. Buttons do not respond when I'm trying to answer my phone or get into vehicles. At one point I couldn't activate an elevator because an NPC engaged me in conversation en-route, but I was given no indication of this. The upgrade system and menu layouts in general are very messy and far from user-friendly. There are a nice range of guns but I found myself constantly running out of ammo as enemies absorbed my bullets like raindrops. The driving is maddeningly stiff and unresponsive. Lots of smaller game design choices are bewildering, such as forcing action to pause when I want to change channels on the radio. It's very easy to get trapped into dialogue where there is no 'goodbye' option, forcing me to walk away to end the conversation. These are all things that should really have been picked up well before six months into the launch.

The story is Cyberpunk's best feature at present, and that's unfortunate because it's unlikely anyone will tolerate the game enough to get that far. I could only make it as far as Keanu Reeves' introduction before deciding to quite the game and leave it on my shelf until it's more playable. It's not the most coherent of stories in the opening hours, so I'm assuming it ties together better as you play through it.

In summary, Cyberpunk 2077 had a disastrous launch and still remains on the backfoot six months later. Even on my PS4 Pro it was massively struggling. The fan sounded insane as it struggled to run the game. This is not due to poor technology - this is poor game design. The game plays more like a beta version or an early demo. I waited six months to give them a chance to patch the game but it looks like at least another six months will be needed before it can be an enjoyable experience. Avoid.

During those times, it's evident that there's been tons of work put into THAT aspect of the game. The city itself is an amazing looking set and again something that show's us all how amazing things could've been. Graphics when it comes to the main story models (Eveline, Judy etc.) and the city itself can look incredible at times and on a high end PC, things can look better than ever. BUT as soon as you are not running from one map marker to another doing the story with tunnel vision, everything falls apart.

There are no police that can drive cars and that means there are no car chases, apart from what has been very strictly scripted to happen during the storyline. There are no NPC's that can ride motorbikes. The NPC's in their cars can't drive around obstacles.

The NPC's that spawn outside of vehicles have 1 role and they will do that role ad infinitum. You have your "wall leaners", your "standing at a stall" models, your walkers.. etc. They do one thing and one thing only. There is no variety or dynamic aspect to their behavior apart from one or two randomized audio lines that come out of their mouths when you "interact" with them. If you follow a walking npc, they will turn 180 at the end of the block and walk right back. If you fire your weapon, they will all duck and cower and if you look away from them and back again, they have diseappeared.

This is the worst NPC system we have seen in well over a decade, when talking about AAA-games. It was also advertised with a sentence "We've greatly enhanced our crowd and community systems to create the most believable city in any open-world game to date".

The AI is terrible in all gameplay, even storyline, which hampers the game at every step of the way and especially if you try to play as some sort of a netrunner like I did, putting your skillpoints to intelligence and tech, your gameplay will be limited to opening doors either via your tech skills by hand or point and clicking to "hack it". You can also quickhack anyone you see in such an exiting fashion that you point at them and select something from a boring menu. That's it. Such hacking!
A text and UI based only game called "Hacknet" on steam does a better job at making you feel like you're actually doing something hacking related. We were shown in the 48min gameplay that we could plug our cable into stunned enemies and hack their network that way and enable quickhacking, but this was scrapped too. This could've improved things so much by making it so you can even get viruses (debuffs) if plugging in unprepared. You could maybe upload viruses to their network, would expose yourself to enemy netrunners in the network (as opposed to any netrunner managing to overheat you from a different room whenever like now) and with a few minigames accompanied with augments that give you an edge in said minigame (ala mini Gwent) you could actually feel like you're infiltrating a system and hacking your way around things and battling netrunners etc.

But no, it's laughably half-assed in every way. Crafting or upgrading barely serves a purpose as you can just keep on looting, as loot is everywhere, you can't talk to anyone except questline npc's, there's NOTHING TO DO in the city if not starting something from a map marker. Can't interact with BD's, no stripclubs, no clubs with interactivity, no playing minigames - it's just empty.
Then there's also the fact how they advertised it as a visceral mature experience and are now backpedaling by adding boxers/underwear on the main character when showering and in photomode, even after someone selects to add genitals and turns nudity off. Adults still can't decide themselves. Two prostitutes, 1 male and 1 female - yet said themes advertised at every corner of the world. Can you experience this future city of sin? No, you can not, not even out of curiosity or immersion.
Not only did they backpedal in features and promises, but in vision and integrity, censoring their own product. This was still a developer I expected to not compromise, not half-ass and NOT LIE. I was wrong on all parts.

...and that's all without even adressing the bugs. The bugs will be fixed.. but the rest; I wouldn't hold my breath. The contrast between the story and unfinished aspects just makes everything feel even more sour. Many crashes have ended up in a long sigh and not wanting to boot the game again.

A more linear/structured experience that wasn't trying to be everything at once could've worked better. It could've also benefitted from not being announced 8 years before release. But hey, 8 mill sales on day one must've been worth it.

Let's remember this the next time they release something. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I feel disappointed, this is a pc game only and not a finished product. They should've delay it for another year.

This is an embarrassment of a release on the PS4. The performance is staggeringly bad, and while the visual design and a lot of the writing are noteworthy, they're hard to enjoy through the blurry, undertextured mess of the graphics. There are also significant shortcuts taken in the AI and character pathfinding, which seem to be indications of a troubled development and poor management. This is an embarrassment of a release on the PS4. Bugs are constant and omnipresent, ranging from ragdoll physics failures to scripting breakdowns that leave key missions in an unwinnable state. There's some fun to be had from memeing the more visually incongruous moments, but they play havoc on any attempts at immersion.

How much CD Projekt RED can fix remains to be seen. Even if the majority of the bugs are squished and the console visual performance brought to an acceptable level from its current abominable one, it's hard to not be left with the impression that there's too many areas where the game is simply half-baked, even on high end PC platforms where its impressive graphics engine is not constrained by hardware deficiencies.

My verdict, in the timeless words of Immortan Joe: "Mediocre."

I find this game interesting, the atmo, the story suck me in. I am okay with game mechanics.

But. Looks is terrible. I thought I must be very tired at lunch, and my eyes are tricking me, but no. I've played GoT and checked out Horizon ZD just before, and encountered this. Reminds me the times around 2000 when I tried to run new games on my cheap low-end PC, and turned off everything

Reminds me the times around 2000 when I tried to run new games on my cheap low-end PC, and turned off everything just to get the labels readable around.

To put it straight, I encountered a few glitches and bugs, a few crashes I can live with if it gets ironed. But I simply don't understand what were they thinking with the visuals. This game is not for a base PS4. I am not going to refund, since I feel for the hard workers of the company who had nothing to do with dates just work their asses off, but the result is outrageous. I am clinging to re-playability, and hoping for getting a PS5 before 2077, and maybe the bad taste in my mouth will fade away. CDPR will always have this taint on them though.

On the other hand, I want to love this game, and I got hooked. Can't wait to put the kids to bed, and go back to the ugly, disappointing, under performing Night City on a 75" HDR TV, and carry the story on.

I feel like beaten and robbed by a friend, but still answering the phone, cause I want to believe there is a reason for all of it.

I suggest not to buy it for the regular PS4. Even if you manage to enjoy the good parts, the wasted potential will be striking wherever you look in the game.

It breaks my heart to write this, but the game is broken for consoles. Even if CD fixs it, the game was supposed to be perfect (on performance), and after 8 months of delayment, this is what we have. I'm just disappointed. (The game is f*cking amazing but covered with SEVERAL technical issues. Surely I'll give a higher grade when gets better (if so)

It’s not terrible, but it is definitely unfinished. In development for 8 years, 3 delays and they still needed more time. Had they have just announced it for PS5 and taken an extra few months this game could have been amazing. Story is great, side quests are fun, gunplay isn’t terrible. Driving is awful, NPCs are boring and not half as many as they promised there would be. Night City feelsIt’s not terrible, but it is definitely unfinished. Night City feels like a dying city, not one that is full of life like they promised. Many promises made that they didn’t keep. Do yourself a favor and wait a few months for them to patch everything and hopefully it will be better.

Lowered this score because even after multiple patches the game is still boring and I have no desire to even complete the story.

I launched Cyberpunk 2077 on my PS4 Slim several weeks after the release and most of the bugs were fixed, so I was able to play the game from start to finish. However, the quality of textures was painfully low, I usually had only 20-22 frames per second while driving around the city (with dips below 20), and some objects tended to disappear. The technical state and graphics of the PS4 version are awful, which is a shame, because the game itself has one of the best stories I have ever encountered, its gunplay is really good, and Night City is very impressive. Cyberpunk 2077 is a game brimming with potential, and it damn near reaches it on so many occasions, but the pitfalls of its development ultimately drag it down. There's still a lot to like here for RPG fans and lovers of the genre, but it's far from the generation-defining masterwork that the world was waiting for.
