Minor gripes aside, Crown Trick surpassed my expectations and taught me much about what two of my favorite genres can achieve. Though the game is undoubtedly derivative of Hades and other recent roguelites, it establishes a character, charm, and gameplay style all its own that are genuinely standout. Its combat and progression systems are among the deepest and most satisfying I’ve encountered all year, and its turn-based mechanics instill its gameplay with a thoughtfulness I wish other roguelites would emulate. For delivering dozens of hours of the most engaging dungeon-crawling you may find this year, this game truly earns its crown.

I cannot overstate what a pleasant surprise it was, and I’m sure it will be for all tactically-inclined gamers like me. Every defeat only rejuvenated my interest to see how the next levels would be constructed — definitely the most remarkable ‘trick’ up Crown Trick’s sleeves. This one is a true pearl.

The ever-changing labyrinth, brimming with creative design choices, renders Crown Trick greater than the sum of its parts. There is only ever a dull moment when the player gets very, very unlucky. Otherwise, the game is a revolving door of “wow” encounters, colorful combat, and epic loot drops. It’s the amalgamation of turn-based RPGs, Chess, and dungeon crawlers in one erratic rogue-lite package. So if you want to exercise that brain matter, feel free to give this experience a go.

Crown Trick is a surprisingly bright and fun roguelike, net of a few defects

Crown Trick is a Rogue-lite, turn based, grid based RPG with a heavy emphasis on luck. The permanent upgrades you can unlock along with your own experience do tip the scales in your favour the more you play and turn it from a harsh game into an enjoyable title.

A well designed, turn-based roguelike with a winning art style and a wide variety of options – even if it is a bit too random.

Many different weapons, I have not stopped to look at it but perhaps more than 150, very differentiated and which can be of different elements and have characteristic passives each one. Good use of altered states, permanent buffs in each run that allow very varied synergies with the weapons, very pleasent aesthetic style, very polished graphics and effects, good performance.

It's an amazing job and it is a pity to see that I am the first to make a review. You can see a lot of effort and love in this game, it deserves more visibility

Great fun. Huge choices in weapons, items, spells. Strategic battles, simple puzzles and secret rooms....etc. Great game to play late at nightGreat fun. Huge choices in weapons, items, spells. Strategic battles, simple puzzles and secret rooms....etc. Great game to play late at night when you are relaxed and want something fun, but still challenging. It's a Rogue Lite, but without the need for fast reflexes. Full Review »
