A mejorar, poca

A mejorar, poca cosa la verdad, quizás un sistema online para superar niveles con amigos. No le doy más nota por que no es el tipo de juegos que me encantan, pero aún así una excelente obra recomendable, sin dudas.

That's a miracle considering that Crash Bandicoot was a dead franchise for the past decade or so thanks to Vivendi and Activision having released a multitude of games ranging from mediocre to awful (not unlike Sonic the Hedgehog, I'm afraid). Then the unthinkable happened, with Activision releasing a remake of the original Playstation games (The N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled) and re-igniting interest in the series. I grew up with Crash Bandicoot and I'm thankful for the existence of this exquisite 4th game.

Gameplay is a return to form for the series, with new abilities such as wall jump, wall running, dimension-swapping, and even a few more playable characters with different playstyles. You have to break all boxes in order to unlock gems and whatnot, but you won't be able to do all these things until you progress far into the game and acquire more abilities. After you beat a level you can replay it with a time attack mode or the so-called "N. Verted mode" where you run through the inverted level plus graphical filters that change the look and feel of the level. In other words, if you wanna 100% this game you will have to replay all the levels many, many times.

Don't let the cartoony graphics fool you, this is a tough platformer to play. I'd say difficulty is somewhere in-between the 1st and 2nd games. It's not as hardcore as the infamous 1st game, but it's no Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped-style walk in the park either where you could beat most levels on 1st try without dying once. Even if you don't attempt to break all crates and expose your character to danger, expect to die at least 5 times on each level on the 1st try on this new game (if you aim to break all the boxes expect to die 10+ times). The bosses are cool, too, not too far away from the boss fights of the first games.

Graphics are very nice, although I'd like Crash Bandicoot's design to be closer to a teenager/young adult aesthetic (more in-line with how Crash Bandicoot used to be a teenager/young adult icon back in the day) than this kid-friendly look that somehow annoys me. On both PS4 and PS4 Pro the game renders at 1080p and runs with an uncapped frame rate, ranging 30-50 fps on PS4 and 55-60 fps on PS4 Pro. This is disappointing news for PS4 users as I feel that 60 fps should have been the target for a platformer, even if it meant reducing the quality of the graphics. It's not unplayable on PS4 but if you have the option, play this game at 60 fps on PC, PS4 Pro or PS5.

I'm still playing through Crash Bandicoot 4 and it's a joy to revisit one of my favorite franchises. I definitely recommend this game to any platformer fan, especially considering that nowadays platformers are not exactly abundant.

Because levels are huge, and you have to die alot of times (8-99,9 deaths to end one level), and you didn't know where is danger, you don't see sometimes(almost all the time) danger moments and have to VERY learn each level for just to simple end one level. So, in CB4 you can easily achieve Rage quits and etc. You are getting tired fast and some times getting bad mood after game. But if you achieve your mood will be good!) I had master league in SC2, but dis difficulty in that game some times just really insane + there are still some little issues with controlling comparing to difficulty.

First levels are fun and chill (Developers are trolls =]), but middle end and very end levels are insanly hard - masochistly Fun! Yes you can end game, it's real even in Retro mode, but you can forget about platinum, or mb not...(thoughs about c**tex c*s*l

Game is beautifull itself, cartoon graphics/gameplay/sound/abilities - very good. Just Great! But absurd difficulty some times may ruining expirience in my opinion (it's platformer for kids right or...?). So the game is 8.9/10 because of The Difficulty. I don't know recomend it for kids 8-12 years or not... guess not... Nerves.. broken gamepads and etc(on boxes must be written "Absolutely not for children" or "16+" or "21+" or "not for ppls with mental health problems", because game itself want you to suffer...). I guess Nsane trilogy is better for kids: more fun-calming and human freindly...) CB4 in 3 trimes harder than N'sane trilogy if to compare.

Any Way The Game is Beautiful and so damn Hard a la Dendi platformer styles with alot of Fun, i would say alot of different kind of Fun..)

If you're used to not relying on walkthroughs you're going to have a hard time with this game.

Past Crash games required a certain skill level that you could build while playing the game. Some levels required extensive trial and error but overall you knew what you had to do and you enjoyed every part of the grinding process. In Crash 4, there's simply so much to do that you can quickly get distracted. NVerted mode, which is a fancy way of saying that you're playing the same levels in a mirror mode, feels bloated and old. The extra characters bring enjoyment but the fact that you can only use them on certain levels seems rather restrictive. The main story is easy, but 100% completion seems impossible if you want to keep your sanity. Getting all crates at most levels is unnecessarily hard. It like playing a Dark Souls version of Crash. Also getting the colored gems required for accessing bonus platforms is laughable. It's not about skill, it;s about luck or getting in the level designer's mind. Flashback tapes are way better if you want a reasonable challenge reminiscent of the past

Crash 4 just tries to do too much and the result is a jack of all trades master of none. It's not a bad game by any means, great cut scenes, humor, and voice acting, but the most fun you'll have in crash 4 is when the level design takes obvious inspiration from the original trilogy and that only happens about 50% of the time.

The original crash trilogy were master crafted platformers (besides crash 3 was a bit on the weak side). Crash 4 is not, it's a pretty strange platformer. More like a puzzle flavored platformer rather than a fluid platformer like the original trilogy. And what I mean by that is sometimes you have to stop moving to examine an area and think about the abilities you'll need to use to progress. One character is so poorly designed that you actually have to suicide if you moved forward without using the right ability. There's several characters to play with, some of them you will hate playing with, others you will enjoy. I'll give credit where credit is due. Boss fights are actually really fun in this game, better than any other crash. But overall it's just a weaker platformer than the original trilogy. I'd still recommend it. It's worth playing, it just doesn't feel like a true successor to the crash series. They nailed the aesthetics but not the gameplay.

The story is also way more vibrant and they really made coco have a prominent role in the story, and the animations are beautiful as well. My only gripe with this game though is how hard it is to obtain the costumes/skins you can unlock. In a normal play through, I was only able to get 1 costume during it and I kinda wish i was able to get them more frequently Expand

There's one power up that allows you to spin constantly, and it gives you a bit more air time when jumping, but for the most part it isn't that novel, nor that well implemented.

The game has a ton of content however, you can play as different characters, both villains, and heroes, new ones, as well as old ones.

You get different levels of all types, costumes for Crash and Coco (who you can play as, as well).

These costumes get unlocked as you obtain gems from levels, that you can get by collecting wampa fruits throughout the levels, (think of the coins in mario but specific for this franchise).

You can also get gems by finding secret passages, or replaying the same level with different varieties, like there's one that makes it so the colors turn into an strange mix that makes the whole level look textureless, despite it being called "negative" for some reason.

Good game overall, but at time really challenging, plus what they did to the pc version with the always online requirement on Battle.net is absolutely abysmal.

The game is good but too many mechanics are awful. Finishing the levels without dying, and also having to take all the crates is sometimes really impossible. The crates are often too many and too hidden, reaching the end of the level with 599 crates out of 600 and missing one that was off the screen is unnerving

Playing through this game has led to some mixed impressions on my part. Let me start off by saying that the "E 10+" rating is somewhat deceptive. While I'm only an average Crash player this game is pretty difficult even for someone like me who has played Crash since Warped. At one point Dingodile says the word "bastards". That made me chuckle for awhile. I just wanted to include those two things for any parents of young children who are reading this review. The game might not necessarily be a good introduction to Crash for them. Anyways on to the main review.

    1) Plot - Yeah it's a Crash game. Stop Cortex from taking over the universe yada yada yada. You know the drill at this point. I love Crash games but let's face it - If you want a game with a plot you're playing the wrong series. And that's fine because Crash is about fun and has always had a loose plot.

    2) Graphics/playable characters - Very good and immersive graphics. The prehistoric levels are probably my favorite in this game and in my view some of the best in the series. The redesign of Crash and Tawna annoyed me a bit but it's nothing too major in my view. Overall beautiful graphics and fun to look at. You get to play as Crash, Coco, Dingodile, Tawna and even Cortex which is enjoyable.

    3) Soundtrack - Not a lot to say here. Pretty average honestly. The N-Gin fight and a couple of others are memorable enough. But mostly just average or forgettable.

    4) Difficulty - Oh boy here we go. This is going to take awhile. A game like Crash 1 is a good measuring stick as it's difficult but fair. Crash 2 is easier but not too easy and probably the best difficulty in the series in my opinion. Crash 3 (Warped) is my favorite Crash game but it is definitely the easiest of the three originals. I like challenge in my games but Crash 4 is over the top difficult just to complete the story. The later levels, especially Cortex's Castle, are not enjoyable in the difficulty. The levels are too long and have too many boxes that are hidden in dumb places. That's okay occasionally but not all the time and should be reserved for hidden gems. It honestly feels like some of the levels were designed by fans to make the game as frustrating as possible rather than by professional developers. I have no desire to go back and try for 105% (or whatever percent it is) with this game. In comparison the original games and the N-Sane trilogy make me want to go back for more.

4a) Difficulty - Adding to that, the game includes a death counter instead of the traditional lives system. (This can be switched back and forth) The reason for the death counter is because you WILL die. And die a lot. The fact that the death counter is even included is a red flag for me as it seems the game is difficult just for the sake of being difficult. The maps seem crowded for the sake of being crowded a lot of the time. Crash 1 is somewhat difficult but the difficulty is fair. It seems like Toys for Bob took the whole "dark souls" comparison to heart and made this game as hard as they could. To me that's just not all that enjoyable. The game is still fun at times but too often it's just frustrating in ways that not even Crash 1 can compare. Crash 1's difficulty is challenging but does not take away from the fun of the game for me. Crash 4 does take away some of the fun. Crash 4 is still a decent game and I don't wish to bash it. But with the difficulty, some of the level designs and overall frustration it is not as good as it could be.

    5) Mechanics - Some flaws here as well. The mask powers are interesting, but they are frustrating and clunky at times. (Gravity and Spinning masks) The spinning mask has no reason to exist anyways. Why was this even included when we could have just kept the double jump followed by the death tornado spin (now removed) to clear long jumps? In this instance the old system was much better and less tedious. Also the parts of the game where you climb on the sides of walls is incredibly clunky and frustrating. I don't know how many deaths I had falling off the walls that shouldn't have been deaths. It was a lot. The Crash Dash mechanic was also removed in favor of fast spinning. Why? I don't know. Some of the platforming is also quite tedious when it doesn't need to be.

    6) Humor - Crash games generally have some humor. This one is no different. Even being older now some of the jokes made me smile. It's nice to have a game with humor that both kids and adults can enjoy.

TLDR Conclusion - A sometimes fun game that is weighed down by its frustrating difficulty and mechanics. I would only recommend it for long time Crash fans. If you're new to the franchise just play the N-Sane trilogy instead. You'll be happy you did.

This game is so ridiculous in a way that it caters ONLY to the hardcore gamers. Crash 1 was legit hard but average players can still beat it and have fun. The difficulty of this game consists mostly of 2 things: The length of the maps and the camera angle behind Crash which is so zoomed out that its hard to control where he will land, thats why they added the location marker under Crash which i thought was a decent fix but poor design nonetheless.

Best Crash games have Crash zoomed in more (just like some of the maps in this game like Nitro Processed which is actually one of the few maps that i liked).
The length of the maps are so ridiculous because its EVERY map and they are so tedious that each hindrance is just repeated again and again. It feels so lazy, uninspired and uncreative, because most maps actually have 1-2 good ideas that the whole map consists of.
ND did this sometimes like in Crash 1 but it was mostly the 2 stages of going over the bridge which were relatively short because they were so brutal.
Here its every map and they are so ridiculously tedious.

The audio for this game is very boring, best songs are poor remixes of the masterpieces from ND.
The only reason i give it a 2 is because of good graphics and cutscenes. I thought they were the best part about this game and i liked how Dingodile was expanded and become a retired good guy. Kinda like Crash Bash.

Anyway i regret purchasing this game on sale because i've already uninstalled after beating the game because i just dont wanna go through those maps again. I liked that they added content and more characters but alot of it is just lazy (like reverted diamonds and different colors for bosses) or super hard like finding all the stupidly well hidden boxes while not dying - Just isnt fun at all.

I had a miserable time beating this game because i dreaded every single level where Crash never got to breath or slide or anything. Every map is clustered with endless hindrances every step and thats just not Crash and never has been. The masks were remaked from Wrath but i consider that game vastly superior. Its the true 4.
I've never been this critical of a Crash game and i played Titans which were terrible but i new that at time and i wasnt hyped for those releases.

You have to be impossibly precise to not die.
The second pain point is level length and box placement. The game is not designed with smart, fun puzzles like the trilogy. It uses cheap camera tricks in levels with 300-500 **** boxes. It's frustrating as hell. And platinum? I'd say impossible. This game does not reward you for the time invested. And that's coming from someone who platinumed Demon's Souls.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is a welcome return for the title character that is competently made and gorgeous to look at. The levels are generally longer than those in the original trilogy and you get to play as other characters like Cortex too. There's a lot to do here.

However, I can state that while I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the game, I did not find myself enjoying the second half as much. The reason? The difficulty. This coupled with the very long levels really tried my patience in the latter stages of the game. I was stunned at how difficult it was to simply finish a level. The thought of trying to get 100% in this game fills me with dread!

Overall, I think this game will satisfy fans of Crash Bandicoot who were hoping they would finally get a sequel that is on par with the original trilogy.

I have never beaten a single game in this franchise other than Crash Team Racing :Nitro Fueled. I don't really count that though because that's a racing game instead of one of the traditional platformers in the series. I do think that this is a very good game and a lot of hard work went into it but after I complete this game, I'm not sure I'll ever play it again. At least not a new playthrough. I love much of the level design and the abilities that the masks provide, and the game is just so colorful and nicely detailed. However, while I expect for a Crash game to be challenging, the level of frustration I'm feeling here makes me not want to play for any more than one level at a time. I don't want it to be too easy of a game but at the same time, I either find myself taking breaks or playing other games almost immediately. The new modern mode is appreciated for the simple fact that it allows for you to have unlimited lives but that still doesn't make the game any less annoying for me. But retro mode is there too. I barely get boxes as it is now because by the time I get to a certain point in the level, I've died so many times to where I don't care about getting the Collectibles. I just want to finish. I rate the game an 8 because the fact that it frustrates me doesn't make it a bad game. The quality is there and it lives up to what these games are known for if you ask me. But be warned. It'll stress you out. I'm embarrassed to say that a game can get me that worked up but this one definitely has. Expand

Its awesome that we finally get a proper crash sequel. This game was really fun but i have to lower it by 2 points because it’s downright frustrating at times , i died up to 200 times in some levels it was that hard. Takes alot of patience to play this game
And collecting everything is way too hard it’s ridiculous. But as a massive crash fun since childhood this game was really good.

Toys for Bob's game is a welcome addition to the original trilogy, although you will hardly remember its levels or music. Crash Bandicoot 4 is two steps below the amazing Super Mario Odyssey and Yoshi’s Crafted World.

I honestly did not expect such a stellar game. Crash Bandicoot 4 is breathtakingly beautiful, features an amazing soundtrack full of references to the original trilogy, offers tons of content, and thrilled me to bits with its brilliant level design. What’s more, it stayed true to its gameplay roots, while introducing loads of great new mechanics. For me it’s the game of the year. I salute you, Toys For Bob! [12/2020, p.58]

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a worthy addition to the Crash legacy. It captures the spirit, fun, and challenge of the original games, and adds a lot more that genuinely makes the experience even better rather than simply padding out the gameplay. The game is certainly challenging and the levels could probably use a few more checkpoints, but the number in the game is truer to the spirit of the originals than modern gaming standards. A little perseverance will get you through the game, but it’s going to take a little work if you want to be a Crash completionist. Overall it’s a great platform game that perfectly blends the old and the new into a fun new experience.
