Average graphics, average story, slightly above average gameplay. At first, I was interested in this world and story, but as time progressed the interest went away. I don't think this a bad game or I wouldn't give it a 7. Considering it was nominated for game of the year though, it is overrated. Most I would spend on it would be $20 usd.

Loved the concept and the gameplay, but massive frame-rate drops at certain points marred my enjoyment of it. The story is mysterious enough that it has me curious about how it will all play out, but not strong enough to really suck me in.

I liked the game, but honestly in the end i felt a Little bit disappointed: the atmosphere Is absolutely fantastic and the "lore" of the game-world Is very interesting, but the gameplay Is very basic and in the end you are allowed to connets the dots to fully understand the plot. A good start that allows improvement ina possible sewuel

The progression of this game is also not good, you unlocks abilities by discovering secret locations that is hidden away and the game doesn't give you hints or clues to these location, so you may finish the game without unlocking or fully upgrade all abilities. Also, too much loading screen and backtracking, the performance is pretty bad pre-patch. The physic is amazing and the graphic is also very good. Expand

Personally, I enjoyed this game, I really like lore and atmosphere. Also I liked visual and sound design. Honestly, it was very interesting for me explore this game. But unfortunately game in some way seems undercooked for me:
    - Health recovery system. I really feel disappointed by the fact that if I want to cure and there are a lot of aggressive enemies around then I need to risk to cure. I think it would be better to have slow recovering in battle mode and recovering in calm mode, because it's really frustrating when you left with almost no health after finishing of battle but there are no health pieces left.
    - Checkpoint system. If you copy Dark Souls bonfires then you must provide better shortcuts. Because few times when I died I needed to make very long way to the area at which I died. This is frustrating and even can motivate you to enable cheats.
    - And yeah, facility to enable cheats in settings instead of changing difficulty levels. I hope I should not explain why this was a bad idea.
    - Also it's hard to orient when there are a lot of special effects on screen. And my PS4 Slim react on this with FPS lowing which is not very good when you are supposed to play aggressively.
    - On higher levels weapon become less effective against enemies than superpowers.
    - NPCs has potential but I would expect from them being more deeper.

I recommend to play it but don't raise your expectation too high. It's good game but its flaws can leave you with some kind of bitterness.

I felt like the story had too many blank points - dialogues that were supposed to create mystery, but eventually felt redundant or not very important. One thing has to be said for the almost perfect game length - the main story line doesn't go longer than it needs to. It's defnitely for the best as the shooting parts after a few hours start to become a little tedious, though the gameplay itself is definitely an improvement compared to Remedy's last entry. Worth playing if you're a fan of sci-fi themes or looking for something not too long to play for an afternoon or two. Or at least just to have a chance to have fun in the 'ashtray maze'. Expand

A good game, but with a fight that gets repetitive as the story progresses, the boss fights turned out to be just another fight against a strong monster.

Control is a game that had the potential to be one of the games of the generations but as a result of too many faults, I don't think it can be considered anything more than good.

Starting with the positives, I found the gameplay to be generally really good. The use of both guns and powers have been well integrated to give a fluid control system. Switching between shooting your enemies and using your powers to defeat them is seamless giving you a variety of manners beat the enemies. And there are a wide variety of mods and upgrades to help customise your approach to the game.

Level design is also really good for the most part with most areas giving you the opportunity to both run-and-gun and take cover depending on what your situation requires. There are a few places where you are fighting in tight spaces which does go against how the game tells you to keep moving but I did find these few and far between. There is also a lot to do with numerous side missions that will unlock powerful mods or even new powers and helps expand the games already impressive lore.

Sadly, as already mentioned there are quite a few negatives, especially on the technical side of things. Graphically, this isn't impressive for a game from 2019. Everything looks a bit washed out and bland whilst the character models just don't look right with a large number of characters, sadly including the playable character (Jesse), having weird looking heads. This is a relatively minor issue but other technical issues aren't. Loading times are really poor taking an age to get you back into the action. And worst still is the frame rate. Whilst it is usually stable, when you hit a situation where there are several enemies on screen it can plummet. And bizarrely, when exiting the pause menu the game stutters and freezes. It does feel like optimisation has been a bit of an afterthought with Control.

Whilst I did generally enjoy the gameplay for Control, it isn't without its issues. Often it can be hard to see where the enemies are leading to cheap and frustrating deaths when an unseen telekinetic enemy wallops you with a projectile. There are icons to show you the direction of the enemy that is attacking you, these are so small that they are far too easy to miss in the thick of battle.

The checkpoint system is also a mess. You might think that seeing the auto-save icon in the bottom corner of the screen means you've hit a checkpoint but the reality is you haven't. With the exception of the odd instance, each death will see you return to the last save point you accessed which can lead to loads of tedious back tracking throughout areas of the game you have already cleared, often to be ambushed with a load of enemies that just randomly spawn in front of you. And this system has apparently better than it was at launch!

More often than not, Control is a fun game. But there are too many irritating issues present in the game to make this the must have title that it could have been. If you can pick it up cheaply or got this when it was free on PS+ than give it a go. If not, I would just play something else.

The difficulty is also a bit weird, varying at different parts of the game in ways that it doesn't feel like it should. This is most notable in the boss fights, but even at other parts of the game, the difficult simply doesn't always make sense, sometimes being too easy and at other times being too difficult and never being super consistent. The game has an interesting story although there is certainly a lot of filler. All in all, it's certainly far from a bad game, but also not a great game. If they could tighten up the shooting and combat and make the powers more fun to use, we could be on to something here. Expand

Regardless, it was a pretty immersive story for the most part, despite having several peaks and valleys. I have to compliment the acting in this game, especially by some of the later characters. The gameplay feels like a very well executed third person shooter that belonged on the Xbox 360. I don’t mean that in any good or bad way, but after reading the developer’s history, I can totally see how the developers also made Alan Wake and Max Payne. So the gameplay feels like something we don’t see much of anymore, and this genre really ran its course a couple generations ago, it’s still fun. The only real complaint I have is that this game would have benefitted from a more linear mission-based design instead of the open world design. Since the entire game takes place indoors, I found myself getting lost pretty regularly. The graphics are also very impressive for a PS4 game, and look fantastic on the PS5. Overall it’s a dated formula that is executed with a unique story that isn’t like many other games. The best way to describe the experience: I enjoyed it, but I will forget about it quickly. Expand

I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.
