It does give me glimpse of hellblade senua's sacrifice when it comes to conceptual presentation ( like discussion, maze like puzzle etc ) combat seems to be inspired by infamous and the alternative World appears to be somewhat inspired by Allan walk. Good weaponry system and great skill tree. Must get it guys! Expand

This is the best game of 2019 for me so far. It is a great gift for all gamers who love "The X-Files", "SCP Foundation" and "Alan Wake". It really breaks my heart to see that this game get negative reviews from people who have don't understand the concept of this game. I'm sure, this game will become cult and "Hidden Gem" status in the future.

Love the concept of the game. The metroidvania style really works well here (albeit, that's one of my favorite game types so I'm a little bias). edge of buying it just wait for a sale but not a bad game in any sense. I enjoy games with creative forms of story telling and unique gameplay functions so I am biased but only to the extent that I have played many, and I mean many cash grab games so I know that this is one with some heart in its development. Has some lag and frame rate drops when things get too hectic or even just by unpauseing the game which can get annoying, and the enemies do share the same color form through the game. Color is dark and bureaucratic. But I do believe some of this stuff can be resolved in future updates and some were for story design. By far the worst of this game is certainly shown when the frame rates drop this it's is immersion breaking and can lead to a death when in a sever fight against the Hiss. Overall I think it was worth the buy but waiting for a sale isn't the worst option giving it is a single player game that you don't have to worry about competing with other players.

FBC Bureau very stylish and enigmatic place. Old house as a living character. But I don't like very bad performance for ps4, I'll wait for patch.

Control is the video game equivalent of the X-Files, Warehouse 13, and the SCP files. Made by Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Max Payne and Alan Wake, brings a world of conspiracy and mystery to life in their newest outing. Control is a 3rd person action/adventure game that leans HEAVILY on lore developed through written files and audio/video recordings to life. You do not by any means have to read all of the files you come across, but the world of the game makes much more sense if you do.
At its core, the game moves you through much of the The Oldest House, a paranaturally clandestine facility housing the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). You use different weapon types and paranatural abilities to dispatch a variety of enemies who impede your progress. As you go you encounter new and strange objects and phenomena. There are a number of optional side missions which can be tackled which boost your abilities or give you new ones. My one real gripe with the game is that some of the side missions can feel fetch questy and rely a little too much on back tracking to areas you’ve already been through.
The gameplay is solid, but this title really shines in its narrative. Anyone who disliked this game was probably looking for a run-n-gun game and didn’t bother to dive into the rich lore. Though, the main story is still solid without having to read through everything.
Again, this is a MUST play for anyone who is a big fan of media like Warehouse 13, the X-Files, or SCP.

That being said...Control is f-ing amazing. If you love Twin Peaks, Welcome to Night Vale, or any type of funky weird pop mystery then you will love this game. If you don't love those then you should still enjoy the game. The graphics are good, the controls are tight, the story is interesting.

You get to kill people at low hp by ripping them off the ground with such force that it breaks them. And then you get to hurl their lifeless corpses at other bad guys with such form it kills the other guy.

Hideo Kojima has a frekin cameo!

It all takes place in a building that is alive and moves and shifts and reorganizes itself right in front of your eyes.

(232 negative reviews, LOL... you kids are trash at games)

There's one problem with this game - the framerate drops. You get a lot of slowdown on the screen when a lot starts happening... but it's not that often, and the awesomeness of the game makes it a near-forgivable offense. The ONLY reason I can't give this a 10/10 is because of the slowdown, but the game is amazing. My PS4

The world building is great with some really interesting lore and characters. The lore is delivered in an entertaining way through notes, memos but mostly through video logs left by a charismatic scientist. Oh and the soundtrack is pretty great too.

The game is pretty tough, so if you aren't very good at third person shooters you might struggle later on in the game when you hit a couple of major difficulty spikes. However, the challenge is worth fighting through as it's very rewarding when you finally beat that pesky boss you've been stuck on by learning it's patterns and figuring out different ways to counter it's attacks.

I highly recommend this game to anyone that is looking for a challenging, immersive, beautiful and well designed video game with a compelling story.

Control **** me up, it was like this beautifully crafted love letter to the weird wonderful world of supernatural occurrences within games. The game is just so fun, interesting and something that feels so fresh to get in 2019. A uniquely crafted, very well thought out, action game that doesn't dumb down its audience.

I love this game. I don't think it's for everybody. It does have narrative issues, and the ending is incredibly anticlimactic (hoping that the DLC will fix this issue and pad the game out more) but for what it is, a very tight supernatural third-person shooter it truly is amazing.

I absolutely adore control. Check it out!

Solid gameplay mechanics with fun supernatural powers to wield, clever metroidvania-style level structure, good plot (wouldn't expect less from Sam Lake) and the absolutely outstanding palpable atmosphere of mystery and fleshed-out lore set this game apart from any competitor. I don't want to dwell into plot details here to avoid spoilers, but trust me, this is a game best to be experienced going in blind. If you're a fan of sci-fi and mystery genres, don't miss it out. Also, I've seen people saying it's a 10-hour game, which is misleading, as with all the side quests (mostly as high-quality as the main plot) it leans towards 25-30.
That's not to say the game doesn't have its fair share of problems. Firstly, even after the update there are mild performance issues on base PS4, with a consistent noticeable 2-3-second frame drop occurring every time you exit the pause menu. Secondly, the in-game map is confusing and often wouldn't load. Lastly, I found the ending to be somewhat underwhelming and straightforward, compared to the complexity and intrigue of the plot that preceded it.
Still, after beating the main storyline and being 3 trophies away from platinum which I fully intent to get, I consider Control to be the best game of 2019 so far.

If the setting, story, and style appeal to your personal tastes, you will have a blast with this. As far as the gameplay goes, the different powers are all satisfying to use, and the physics tech and destructible environments are simply superb. The combat mechanics are solid, but outside of some excellent side missions and combat encounters in the late game, Control suffers from one of the problems I had with Alan Wake — namely, it doesn’t always match the inventiveness of its combat mechanics with equally interesting combat scenarios. That being said, with the promise of upcoming free endgame content and future DLC, I’m hoping they will continue to rectify that issue.

As far as performance goes, I’ve been playing on the PS4 Pro — and while performance was admittedly rough at launch, the most recent patch has been a massive improvement, solving my biggest qualm with the game.

All in all, if you’re a fan of story-driven action games, I would highly recommend Control. This has supplanted Alan Wake as my favorite Remedy game, and even with some minor frustrations, I have loved every second spent with this game.

Control is a 12 hour long 3rd person sci-fi shooter set in a bit of an open world... or I should say building… more specifically the FBC’s paranormal headquarters...it all connects in an addictive metroidvania style… of more doors and areas becoming accessible as you complete story and optional missions. Here you play as Jesse Faden, who sets out to find out what happened to her brother in this facility... and would you know... you have some super natural gifts of your own…
The gameplay loop is the same from start to finish, you’re given a task... and area in the building to explore, and along your way you’ll sometimes feel an urge to venture of and explore, which can lead to you finding materials, or even optional missions that will help you become more powerful, give you more upgrade points, or even additional abilities, but you’ll do just fine sticking to the main story as well, increasingly making the gameplay here more addictive and crazy, throwing items, dashing, levitating, just to name a few.. Taking on enemies that can do almost the same... you’ll have to clear these enemies most of the time to unlock spawn points, which is also where you spend the enemy dropped currency and materials on upgrading your character, becoming more powerful… the combat though Is my biggest gripe with control… This game had the potential of being a really amazing game, in fact its won multiple game of the year titles for 2019, but the little issues with combat and performance is what sours control most for me… For starters... performance wise, the game stutters like crazy any time you pause and unpause the game.. and secondly in a Game so crazy and hectic at all times, it’s really hard to have a sense of enemy direction, a lot of the time... especially towards the end with more powerful enemies, you’ll just be hit and dead with no warning, you’ll get smacked with heat seeking missiles, shot in the back.. And you have no opportunity to fairly dodge or counter attack, which bring me to my next announce... dodging being tied to your super natural energy… this just becomes annoying… due to the nature of the game, dodging is a mechanic I feel should be a given to the player.. Not a drainer... you’ll be in fights, again unfairly getting smacked with these heat seeking missiles out of nowhere,, that you’ll need to quickly dash to health enemies drop all the way across the room, but good luck if you’ve been range attacking with your toss power, and you most likely will thanks to again the dash ability draining your energy. It makes you not want to use it, and when you need to use it, again it’s because of need to quickly move in the area because of a grenade or to grab health, but once again the vicious circle smacks you of you can’t because you’ve been range attacking with your throw ability, you see? This is an endless circle of one mechanic decision breaking all of the other mechanics, not making the game as fun as it could be, or bringing your gameplay vision to life... this game wants you moving around, throwing, dashing, shooting, hitting enemies with a nice forearm strike… but this one small decision forces ranged combat, and the games vision again just crumbles in front of you… that’s not to say control isn’t still fun, it’s a blast, it’s one more try addictive and challenging… despite its flaws I loved Control from start to finish… but control 2… I’m just saying... Focus on the balance of the crazy fun mechanics, give more opportunity to dodge seemingly unfair and over powered attacks and enemies… and this series has potential to be masterpiece level... where it stands now... Control is still a great game definitely worth your time...
    I give Control
    an 8/10

The physics of destruction is made at a magnificent level. And the company itself is well built, precisely when you begin to get tired of the game, either the maze appears or the game ends. The idea with the double ending is great! And in general, I would rate the game at 10/10, but the technical implementation of the game is not the best. On PS4 Pro, the game slows down significantly in heavy scenes, the opening of the menu occurs with friezes. This could not win with patches even a year later. Expand

Control is a great game with two particularly great qualities in its worldbuilding and combat.

The world of Control is one of mystery and intrigue. The game takes place in the Oldest House, a featureless skyscraper in New York City that is imperceptible to the public. You also travel to the Astral Plane, a bleak monochromatic emptiness inhabited by a cryptic entity known as the Board. It's a really cool setting for an action game with a brilliantly cold and peculiar atmosphere. As you work to repel The Hiss, a hostile invading force, you'll have a lot of questions on your mind.

The combat is great and super fluid, with a satisfying synergy between the abilities and the gunplay. You can levitate, dash to avoid attacks, use telekinesis to fling enemies into one another, and blast them with a shape shifting gun that can take a number of unique forms. It's really fun. There are also a decent number of Hiss enemy types which make for varied enough combat encounters.

Control is visually impressive in its realisations of odd and unsettling concepts. Environments and characters look great, but the PS4's performance often falls short. During intense action, it struggles to maintain a steady frame rate, and some of the less important textures can arrive a little late to the party. Loading times are quite poor, and I had a problem with the audio getting out of sync with the in game videos too.

An aspect in which Control disappoints slightly is in its narrative. Although Control certainly has an interesting setting and premise, I wasn't left fully satisfied by its story and conclusion. The plot couldn't match the quality of the worldbuilding in my opinion. I was drawn in by the lore and unorthodox supernatural elements, but the plot isn't as groundbreaking.

The Ultimate Edition comes with two major expansions in The Foundation and AWE respectively. I preferred the former, which is a nice tailpiece to the base game which gives a taste of where the game could go next. The Board have a fairly prominent role in it which I liked. AWE is fine too, but having not played Alan Wake I felt a little out of the loop.

Overall, Control is definitely worth playing. It's got a madcap world and some eccentric characters, and the combat is very enjoyable.

I was immediately drawn into the story from the very first moment ant it kept me hooked until the very end. It was entertaining and enjoyable but it has its flaws and is clearly outshined by the exploration and the combat. Let me emphasise for the combat system alone I recommend this game to anyone who loves for action games. It is that good!

For me the fighting mechanics are one of the very best in video game history. This is the combat system EA wishes they had for their Star Wars games because in Control some of your powers like Levitation and Telekinesis have never been done so snappy and satisfying. Period. I could literally play hours after hours killing randomly spawnings waves of the same enemies due to how perfect and satisfying the combat is. And I haven't even talked about the service weapon and its five modes which each can be individually upgraded with weapon modifications. In combination you're always switching between slinging huge rocks at enemies and levitating above their heads while barraging them with bullets from your service weapon. It is a dream come true.

Combine this with the vast and intruiging game world of the "Oldest House" which is the home of the Federal Bureau of Control. There's so much to explore in this game. The world strongly rewards players for checking out every corner. It is jampacked full of mysterious memos and audio files which adds to the dense atmosphere of this mysterious building. I think I read/listened to more than 90% of the > 200 collectibles. I couldnt get enough of it and am looking forward to the DLCs.

I also quite liked the characters of the game which are interesting and unqiue.

The only things that frustrated me were the convoluted mini-map (you really get lost too often), too few stand-out missions (More missions like in the Maze please) and some intense difficulty spikes in a couple of optional boss fights. It is a real shame that Remedy hid the two coolest and by far best boss fights in optional side-missions while presenting some rather bland and boring encounters in the main campaign.

That being said. I had a lot of fun with this game and recommend it to anyone on PC. I have heard that there are some problems on consoles though so you might have to be careful there.

The writing, direction, and performances are consistently brilliant. This is Remedy at the peak of its game. Control feels like a company rediscovering itself, waking from a long slumber. Remedy’s legs work as intended once more, the vestiges of sleep paralysis a distant memory.

I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.
