I feel the need to post a review for this as I don't think other user scores represent this game fairly.

For the base game itself, I don't think it was worthy of a 10 back when it was originally released, but it was definitely in the 8-9 score range for me, closer to 9. I didn't realize that until about 5-10 years ago when I finally fully experienced this game. The music is wonderful, I

For the base game itself, I don't think it was worthy of a 10 back when it was originally released, but it was definitely in the 8-9 score range for me, closer to 9. I didn't realize that until about 5-10 years ago when I finally fully experienced this game. The music is wonderful, I love the colors of the game, and I love the concept of the parallel worlds. Not a new concept, but it was done well. People expecting a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger were disappointed. Admittedly, Chrono Trigger was perfection, and outside of producing basically the same game again, people were not going to be happy. I like that Squaresoft (now Square Enix) wanted to do something different for this game. The personality for this game was similar to Chrono Trigger, yet distinctly different. I do think that the element grid system is cumbersome (thank god for auto-allocate, but still, what a drag), and there are too many characters to really have significant character development for any of them. I think Radius probably had the most interesting story.

    Remaster:
As for the remaster, I do agree partially with other reviewers commenting on the frame rate. For the bit of the little bit of the remaster that I tried, I wouldn't say the frame rate was worse than the PS1 game. It's about the same. The original game did not have a great frame rate. Don't believe me? Go and boot it up and you will see. I think there's an opportunity for this game to really wow people with a remaster by fixing that. Is it broken? No, absolutely not. The character models are better, it just needs an improved frame rate to give the game a polish to it. Now as for the soundtrack and sound in general, the quality to me is noticeably improved. That was the first thing I noticed was the sound quality. And to ease any fears, those remixed tracks are not used in the game itself, it's the original soundtrack with the sound quality improved.

For those of you that enjoyed this game before, you will enjoy revisiting it, now with trophies as an incentive to experience this game in full. An easy recommendation to buy. For those of you that are determined to hate this game with all of your being, you will undoubtedly continue to do so. I'm someone that was disappointed with the game initially, revisited it about 10 years ago and changed my mind. I definitely recommend the game to those that are already familiar with it and enjoyed the game in any way.

My personal best RPG of all time. Not without flaws, this remaster does a MUCH better job at cleaning and re-doing the backgrounds and characters than what they did with FF VII, VIII y IX for ps4. We can only hope that they use AI upscaling for the backgrounds in the future. THE MUSIC!, is the best OST of all time, again, for me. Back in ps1 this game was a must play. The remaster keep the game adding some quality of life improvements. If you like the original game this i a must for you. If you're gonna play it for the first time, well, no nostalgia for you but you'll enjoy a great history (although i'd strongly recommend you play chrono trigger first). Square Enix could do a better job? Yes, but it's not bad at all.

Please buy it. Don't listen to trolls that don't know the difference between remake and remaster. It looks a lot better than the original and have the same charm and music.

A classic game that no RPG lover should miss.

My save data was corrupted back in 2001 so this was the best time ro give it another chance.

I loved it! The backgrounds could be betyer but the gameplay, story and music is as good as always

The update 1.01 really improved the game and now it's a true remaster. Now every negative review is outdated. I hope everyone can enjoy this game one more time.

Despite a few framerate issues I thoroughly loved replaying through this masterpiece! I like the remastered soundtrack a lot. And the story, worlds and characters were all great to return to

Here we enter a particularly difficult case to judge: is it worth playing Chrono Cross these days? Absolutely. Is this faulty port worth buying at its launch price? It depends. It's a shame the remaster turned out this way, but Chrono Cross is still a gem even after all these years.

Chrono Cross has been and still remains one of the greatest JRPG titles of all time. As such, remastering it properly would require utmost care and love, making the game shine once more in the modern era of video games. Unfortunately, this remaster is of no such sort as some of the improvements made the game look even worse than the original. But as it still remains what it is at its core, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers edition is undoubtedly worthy of your time.

An ambitious but often confusing game, further held back by an unsatisfying remaster serving neither old fans nor new adoptees adequately. [Issue#14, p.86]
