The frame rate kills it. What a lazy port of a wonderful game.
Don't buy now until they patch it.

Original game is great, the remaster is a piece of **** garbage cashgrab. The game actually runs worse on my PS5 than the original on PS1, with the framerate dropping to less than 30 almost the entire time. CASH GRAB!!! 10-20fps on PS5 for a port (not even a remaster) of a PS1 game is a joke. Don't buy this lousy port. If you really want to play Chrono Cross than emulator is still the best option, by far.

I don't think I can call that a remaster. It's just a bad emulation with filters and **** framerate.
I have a old PC with 256MB RAM and a Pentium 4 and I can run an emulator with way better performance if compared with that **** show. How can the game not run on modern hardware?
That's why I'm not buying anything from Square Enix.

Frame rate is a shame, bad port of a great game, better played on emulator for free.

Do you like Chrono Cross? So play the original in your emulator. This version is worse in all the aspects.

I bought it to remember, how much fun I had playing and discovering the game, but unfortunately, it seems that the lack of respect for the game, it is just being emulated in a lazy way, and still sold as if it had been worked on.

I guess I don't know how I feel about this game. Growing up, I loved it. It looked great on a CRT. Ran great on the ps1. Everything about this game was incredible.

Fast forward to 2022 and the hype for me at least was very real. I downloaded it immediately, started it up and my first thought was "they couldn't have at least cleaned up the FMVs?". My excitement dwindled a little bit but

Fast forward to 2022 and the hype for me at least was very real. I downloaded it immediately, started it up and my first thought was "they couldn't have at least cleaned up the FMVs?". My excitement dwindled a little bit but carried on. I start playing it and it's going alright, liking it for the most part...then I noticed it...was there input lag? Why isn't it reading me pushing the x button to attack quicker? What's going on with this awful frame rate drop? My expectations of this game vanished. Do I still love the game? Yes. I'm playing on the ps5 so it's not like it's a 1st gen ps4 (even though it should run just fine on that too). But am I EXTREMELY disappointed that they couldn't at least clean up the FMVs and make sure the frame rate was steady and there was no input lag? Absolutely.

Pros - Nostalgia, soundtrack, great jrpg, story line

Cons - not cleaned up like I figured it would be, input lag like crazy, severe frame rate drops.

I feel the need to post a review for this as I don't think other user scores represent this game fairly.

For the base game itself, I don't think it was worthy of a 10 back when it was originally released, but it was definitely in the 8-9 score range for me, closer to 9. I didn't realize that until about 5-10 years ago when I finally fully experienced this game. The music is wonderful, I

I didn't realize that until about 5-10 years ago when I finally fully experienced this game. The music is wonderful, I love the colors of the game, and I love the concept of the parallel worlds. Not a new concept, but it was done well. People expecting a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger were disappointed. Admittedly, Chrono Trigger was perfection, and outside of producing basically the same game again, people were not going to be happy. I like that Squaresoft (now Square Enix) wanted to do something different for this game. The personality for this game was similar to Chrono Trigger, yet distinctly different. I do think that the element grid system is cumbersome (thank god for auto-allocate, but still, what a drag), and there are too many characters to really have significant character development for any of them. I think Radius probably had the most interesting story.

    Remaster:
As for the remaster, I do agree partially with other reviewers commenting on the frame rate. For the bit of the little bit of the remaster that I tried, I wouldn't say the frame rate was worse than the PS1 game. It's about the same. The original game did not have a great frame rate. Don't believe me? Go and boot it up and you will see. I think there's an opportunity for this game to really wow people with a remaster by fixing that. Is it broken? No, absolutely not. The character models are better, it just needs an improved frame rate to give the game a polish to it. Now as for the soundtrack and sound in general, the quality to me is noticeably improved. That was the first thing I noticed was the sound quality. And to ease any fears, those remixed tracks are not used in the game itself, it's the original soundtrack with the sound quality improved.

For those of you that enjoyed this game before, you will enjoy revisiting it, now with trophies as an incentive to experience this game in full. An easy recommendation to buy. For those of you that are determined to hate this game with all of your being, you will undoubtedly continue to do so. I'm someone that was disappointed with the game initially, revisited it about 10 years ago and changed my mind. I definitely recommend the game to those that are already familiar with it and enjoyed the game in any way.

My personal best RPG of all time. Not without flaws, this remaster does a MUCH better job at cleaning and re-doing the backgrounds and characters than what they did with FF VII, VIII y IX for ps4. We can only hope that they use AI upscaling for the backgrounds in the future. THE MUSIC!, is the best OST of all time, again, for me. Back in ps1 this game was a must play. The remaster keep the game adding some quality of life improvements. If you like the original game this i a must for you. If you're gonna play it for the first time, well, no nostalgia for you but you'll enjoy a great history (although i'd strongly recommend you play chrono trigger first). Square Enix could do a better job? Yes, but it's not bad at all.

A classic game that no RPG lover should miss.

My save data was corrupted back in 2001 so this was the best time ro give it another chance.

I loved it! The backgrounds could be betyer but the gameplay, story and music is as good as always

This is one of my top three J-RPGs. When I saw the announcement for this re-release I cried. This is how much it means to me. I was stoked about the new features even if they are barebones. I knew I was going to play this again and I knew I was going to complete all achievements. I owe that to this game. The only thing that could have soured my experience would be performance issues...This is one of my top three J-RPGs. When I saw the announcement for this re-release I cried. Low and behold they do that one thing. I cannot fathom how this got through. It's game breaking at its worst. Experience-ruining at its best. What did you do to my baby? 4/10 - below average.
(Without the performance issues - namely a stable 60 frame rate - it would have been a homerun.) 9/10 at least.

The frame rate in the game itself is just horrible. It's absolutely horrendous. When you battle, it take 10 clicks just to get one action to work. I have sat that and mashed a button 20 times just to get a button to work. The game itself is just as bad. Please Square, fix this. I'm begging.

Here we enter a particularly difficult case to judge: is it worth playing Chrono Cross these days? Absolutely. Is this faulty port worth buying at its launch price? It depends. It's a shame the remaster turned out this way, but Chrono Cross is still a gem even after all these years.

Chrono Cross has been and still remains one of the greatest JRPG titles of all time. As such, remastering it properly would require utmost care and love, making the game shine once more in the modern era of video games. Unfortunately, this remaster is of no such sort as some of the improvements made the game look even worse than the original. But as it still remains what it is at its core, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers edition is undoubtedly worthy of your time.

An ambitious but often confusing game, further held back by an unsatisfying remaster serving neither old fans nor new adoptees adequately. [Issue#14, p.86]
