Nov 9, 2016Infinite Warfare takes the series to its logical conclusion, delivering one of the best single-player campaigns in ages. But the trademark multiplayer modes need a serious overhaul.

Jan 12, 2017Such is the grand irony of the ludicrously-named Infinite Warfare – the only decisions that breathe fresh life into it are the same that have scared long-time fans of it away. To those devotees, rumors of CoD's radical reinvention have been greatly exaggerated. Not since the likes of 2002's Jason X has taking a well-known franchise into space produced so little tangible change; if anything, it's a testament to how it needs to be altered even further.

Nov 7, 2016Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is three very different games. It’s a character-driven military sci-fi action adventure with spaceship battles and a villain carved from the finest cedar. It’s a lighthearted co-op survival game with a bitchin’ period theme and some classic tunes. And it’s Black Ops III’s competitive multiplayer with a fresh coat of paint. I suppose it’s easier to push boundaries if you take them one at a time.

Nov 11, 2016Infinite Warfare is not a bad Call of Duty. I’ve played nearly every game in the series, and as someone who sees the merits of the systems that make up the moment-to-moment experience of playing a shooter like it, I enjoyed myself, sometimes a good deal. But Infinite Warfare stalls out in the terrestrial shadow of itself and the political context it’s trying to run from. It wants to be a lot of things, but ultimately it’s a lesson: We can go as far into the cosmos as we want, but we can’t go alone. Our problems are stowed away in the cargo hold, and they’re coming with us.
