    New maps are fast paced, compact and interesting. Above all the new maps are very colourful and bright. Detailing in Verge and Knockout finishes of the Eclipse DLC. Zombie map, Zetsobou no Shima, comes with new interesting puzzles.

    Eclipse isn’t going to bring Black Ops 3 owners who have stopped playing the game back into the online arena, but it’s certainly good enough to keep things moving until DLC number 3 drops.

    This second DLC introduces four decent multiplayer maps and a new chapter of the zombie campaign that will please everyone who's been following the adventures of Dempsey, Nikolai, Edward and Takeo. We would have expected something more daring in terms of level design and something new for the Specialists. Guess we'll have to wait.

    Eclipse is a good map DLC pack: it features 4 PvP well designed maps and a new zombi map. The price is pretty high though, so this expansion may not interest every fan of the game.

    Eclipse is way better than the previous DLC Awakening: an expansion pack with four original maps and new monstrosities for the acclaimed Zombie mode. The price is still high, but hardcore fans of Call of Duty will be delighted by the design of the new playgrounds.

    Even with Zombies proving less of a draw than it has been in a couple of years, the well designed multiplayer maps ought to make Eclipse worth the download for franchise fans.

    As a mostly outdoor affair, the layout is a tad scrunched, and sadly, the indoor areas are too tight-knit for their own good.

    The second DLC pack for Black Ops III is overpriced for the content it offers, but if you love the Zombies mode the Zetsubou No Shima map will keep you occupied for quite some time.

    Unlike its real-life counterpart, Eclipse isn't anything to get excited about. While the Verge and Knockout multiplayer maps have a lot of personality and are excellent fun, Rift and Spire are pretty dull.

    Eclipse is a step down and a step up for Black Ops DLC, offering a half assed map pack but an extremely fun and creepy zombies map. Whilst aesthetically each multiplayer map looks bright and vibrant the gameplay design to the maps just feel half assed.

    7.5/10 - Knockout is the best out of the 4 maps, offering a unique aesthetic and giving off the feel of Castle from WaW. The middle section is a little clustered but still somehow works, the map just needs to be a little more multi levelled here with more cover. There is a raised platform on one side of the map that obscures views of each others side which makes for interesting engagements when you get to the centre, and the other end of the map has a disco room with 3 entrances that are pretty hard to fully cover. The rest of the map works alright but the tunnel under the platform can be a bit messy when trying to wall run on it.

    4.5/10 - Verge is the map I was most excited for since I hated previous Black Ops but loved World at War, however they have pretty much botched their job of the map. They've messed up the bridge, covering up the sides with metal and only having two openings to exit and now enter. The bridge, which was Banzai's (the original maps) iconology is lost here as they've also made it smaller and shorter than before. The bridge used to feel grand and tall before but now it feel weak. The cave side of the map also doesn't really seem to work properly too. The 5 entrances make it a total fustercluck along with the tunnel systems feeling too linear for BO3 new fast paced movement. The water area could've been cool but it's just a death trap now, with 3 tunnels for people to come out from and a bridge right above you that is closer than before it makes you bound to die there. The other side of the map is pretty bland and no one ever seems to use it. The dig site spawn also doesn't flow very well.

    3.5/10 - Spire is another map that aesthetically looks pretty cool. It's sleek and clean and reminds you of a modern day version of terminal. But the map layout sucks. You have one big wide opening that's pretty unusable, a floating platform on one side that people can easily camp on and another side that pretty much only has a raised tree platform for cover. Each end of the map is pretty unmemorable and the spawn suck on this map.

    3/10 - Rift was not thought out at all. Basically it consists of one linear side path, a big opening in the middle which is a death trap and a side that's too blocky and square to make any interesting engagements. It is quite fun on uplink so i'll give it that. The map is basically if they tried to make combine but darker and not well.

    9/10 - Zetsubou No Shima is the biggest Black Ops 3 zombies map and offer plenty of space to roam around in. The atmosphere is creepy and the addition of spiders is horrible (in the good sense). It definitely requires more team work so playing with randoms may not be as fun as others but overall this is the best BO3 zombies map. However, you can find one side of the map pretty missable to use after you've unlocked the furthest away lab and the bunker. Great map and lots of fun.

    So overall i'd say if you want zombies, Eclipse is worth the money. If you want good MP maps, don't waste it. I would also say that Awakening map pack didn't look anywhere near as nice as these maps but overall they played better.

We've played every FPS game that has come out, and we've played the whole COD line. While we've enjoyed playing them all, COD BO3-Eclipse suffers from the same faults as every other COD title: 1.Jerky, unreastic, movement (like watching an old 1920s Charlie Chaplin movie), 2. Inconsistent lighting (if you dive into a dark corner, you might go dark - or you might, inexplicably, light up and be EASIER to see - for no concievable reason), 3. Inconsistent atmospheric effects - as the surrounding map details fade/blur with distance, your avatar remains the same, or becomes darker. The effect being that you become more visible so that an enemy, with no scope, can easily see/shoot you from distance. 4. As maps get more realistic, detailed, and multi-leveled, there's still a bewildering inconsistency with what terrain features (foliage, trees, ledges, roof-tops, etc) that you are allowed to access/use as cover.
    There will always be the two basic types of players: the sniper/ambush - derisively called "campers", usually by those that get killed by them, and the "run-and-gun" crowd, who want to play a FPS as if it were a "sports" game, with "kills" being "goals", and who get REALLY angry when their sprinting around in the open gets them killed (as it would in actual combat).
    I expected, as gaming consoles became more advanced (and military combat-style games became more realistic), that these two gaming styles would become less of an issue. But COD BO3 seems to purposefully cater to the "sports"-type players (and the Eclipse DLC was the more of the same).I used to think it was just the limitations of game technology, but that's obviously not the case. You have beautiful, realistically detailed, multi-player maps, but you can't use 98% of the available cover, or high shooting positions. There have always been the problems stated above, but now you have NO "camo" (as in "camouflage" - something that is supposed to help you blend into your environment, and be LESS visible). You have what is referred to as "camo", but is actually just the opposite: bright, avatar skins that CONTRAST with the environment (with bright red/orange/yellow/blue/pink, etc lights all over - wtf?) And, as you advance, you can earn even more "camos" that are even MORE flashy, and visible. "COD" should stand for "Clowns On Display". Don't get me wrong, I have no problem if somebody wants to look like Liberace on the field of cyber-battle, but why can't it go BOTH ways? Why not offer the option of getting "camos" that are actually HARDER to see (and lose those ridiculous lights), or allow everyone to customize their OWN "camo", however they want? Or - in the next DLC - introduce a "realistic" mode that caters to someone besides the "run-and-gun" crowd? Make each player's visual perception more like the "campaign" mode, with "hardcore" gameplay, and keep all your "gestures", "taunts", and fluorescent "camos", in "Core" mode for the 13-year-olds. Why not stop catering to the whiny types, and let the "realists" finally enjoy the "realism" that is possible with this game? If the others can't stay alive, and fight, effectively, in a battlfield environment that is actually more "realistic", instead of just LOOKING more realistic, then they can play "Core" mode until they ARE ready to play with the "grown-ups".    … Full Review »
