I really like this game. Specialy the BR mode is the best compared to Fortnite and Pubg. But as someone who never played COD online multiplayer before, I think the matchmaking ie in Team Deathmatch or Free for all is not very balanced. I am a level 2-3 player right now and have to play against level 30-40 constantly. Thats not very much fun. So I give this game a 7. with better matchmakingI really like this game. Decent multiplayer at best, mediocre entry of the black ops franchise at its worst. I hate to say this but this game was SEVERELY hindered with boots on the ground; the specialists and boots on the ground are not as fun than in bops 3. It's almost as if this game was intended to be black ops 3, and they flip flopped iterations with 4. I mean it's literally the same specialists, with one new generic ability. and some that are score streaks in other cod... The maps are cluttered and feel like mazes, one thing all other black ops has are open maps whether medium or large. I also feel like the guns have the same blueprints as other black ops guns, they just renamed them and made them sound different.. (ak?.. skorpion like smg?). Bottomline is you've seen 75%-90% of the game before in previous iterations. I'll skip reviewing blackout, never been a fan...but..um.. campers..getting shot from behind..so yeah. And even after all that trashing, this is still a decent game, especially if you're looking for a casual multiplayer game to pour hours in that has some addictive elements. If over watch and black ops sound good to you, then this is the game for you, if you're looking for innovation to this franchise, look elsewhere. Btw... ignore all these 0's and 10's, they're clearly the vocal minority. Expand

I personally think Zombies is horrible (loved the original) and multiplayer feels like glorified laser tag these days. So while I’m having a blast in Blackout on the gamefly rental, I’m definitely not buying just for that. BFV will probably have just as good a Battle Royale, plus a ton of other modes that are similar enough to be liked by the same kind of person (for example me).

I have not played Zombies so can't say anything about it... only that i never play zombies.

I am not a fan of Сall of Duty series. I will evaluate only the royal battle. No kidding - this is really the best royal battle at the time of writing a review. Thank you, Activision. You have removed the useless buildings as in Fortnite. You did a better quick session, not like PUBG. Respawn, shootouts pass quickly and interestingly. No dull gathering of items and resources.

Black Ops 4 in my opinion, brings back the simplistic entertaining gunplay of the Call of Duty of old. Gone are the confusing and unnecessary gameplay gimmicks of the last few installments and back are the simple symmetric and asymmetric maps with killstreaks and no enhanced mobility. I am not the most skilled COD player but I felt that I could hold my own in most game types.
Balancing seems to be much better in this game than previous installments but it still has its issues. If you are someone who is not a fan of leveling up in order to get more powerful guns and better attachments, you will be disappointed, as this staple mechanic is still present. It is not as bad as it has been in previous games but it is still noticeable. However, as I stated earlier balancing is much better and new players will notice that the barrier to entry is much lower than it has been in the past.
Personally, I have never been a fan of the class system and limited the classes I can use to a specific hero, which only two players per team can choose, which also come with their specific abilities. I feel that there is some major rebalancing needed in this aspect and it is a big turnoff for me. I would prefer to not have them at all honestly. But that is about it for the core multiplayer portion of the game.

    Blackout:
Blackout is a ton of fun personally. It is much easier to jump into Blackout for those who are new to battle royal games compared to the other options. Gunplay feels tight and fair, there has never been an instance where I lost a battle and felt like I was cheated in some way. Customization is very limited and most skins are locked behind some very difficult challenges or unrealistically large time-sink requirements. If I am being honest Blackout, in my mind, plays a lot more like Halo than Call of Duty. It is slower paced, it has much more focus on map and power weapon control and communication is necessary for team success. I really enjoy it and it is a very different experience than the classic COD experience. They invested a lot of time into the mode, and while it may not be for everyone, it is definitely a welcome addition.

    Zombies:
As for zombies, I do not have much to say. It's zombies. Map expansion and character dialog do feel much more meaningful and IX specifically has been a blast to play. The maps themselves are pretty creative and unique but still contain the staple zombies gameplay loop. On that same note, I do wish there was some more innovation to the game. There are much more meaningful story elements as I noted earlier and some levels have unique challenges in the form of different zombie types and some bosses and mini-bosses but that is about it. Don't get me wrong, it's still fun to play, but with how many zombie installments we've had, I really wish there was more that made this one stand out.

    Conclusion:
Overall Black Ops 4 is a fine game. The campaign will be missed. (However with how poorly received they have been lately, maybe it is better we didn't get one in the Black Ops storyline). The multiplayer is as fun and fastpaced as it has ever been and balancing, while still not where I should be, is much better. Simplified gameplay has made a welcome return and overall the game is of a decent quality. I stopped taking COD seriously after Black Ops 2 and this game has brought me back into the fold, a commendable feat, considering the many alternatives that are currently in the market. If you miss the old Call of Duty, I suggest giving Black Ops 4 a shot, but maybe try it before buying if possible, it's not for everyone.

This is the worst Call of Duty I’ve played, but it still isn’t bad. The game play is too fast, their is no story, but the zombies are fun. The multiplayer got better when updates released, and the zombies stayed good. Without a story it wasn’t as good though. The game is fun and good, but not great.

To make things simple Black Ops 4 is best described as a step backward. But not entirely in a bad sense. It is more about core gameplay modes, about "that" feel and pace and that step backward seems right to me. I get that some players might not like it, and that some think there's still too much sci-fi going on. I like it. I do miss a single-player campaign though, which has been sacrificed for the focus of online multiplayer, which is what this game is all about. It's still character-based abilities with a familiar customisation of weapons and gadgets. The maps are all really good and updates keep coming. You get cosmetics like skins, camouflage and stickers by normal gameplay progress, as long as events are up, and most look really good. It's a solid buy which you at least should get at a seasonal discount at this point, especially if you and your friends plan on getting something new to play.

I'm not a hardcore try hard player, but I've been playing most of these games, and Black Ops 4 is breath of fresh air. Not the sensation of that time when we all played Modern Warfare 2, but a nod towards that time saying "Ok, yeah we're stepping back a bit to resemble that". I found it easier to play as a senior player too, maybe because of the exclusion of wall-running and all that, but also because of how you still can get top Killstreaks with a little bit of luck and good effort. So, if you liked the old games, this flirts with you.

(Also, there's Blackout. Which is a battle royale setup. I've only played it a handfull of times and twas a new experience for me. Quite fun. I haven't played much Fortnite, PUBG or whatever so I can't compare that much, but from what I hear through my friends they really like it by comparison. My review here aims towards the core gameplay, playing mostly Domination, Team Deathmatch and the usual stuff.)

This game is a great game. I really like the Blackout and Zombies. However, the Multiplayer is the worst. Infinite Warfare is way better. Zombies could use more maps, because my friend bought all the DLC and only got like 4 maps. Though, if you're going to play a Battle Royale game, BO4 is the way to go.

The Blackout mode is a ton of fun and I'm actually quite a fan of the gunplay in this game, but the overpowered kill streaks and uneven operative power-ups during regular multiplayer take away from what could've been the best Call of Duty game in years.

CoD campaigns have just been a formality for me personally, so I wasn't affected by that choice.

Blackout was pretty good to me. I haven't really gotten into the Battle Royal phenomena the last couple of years, but I did buy PUBG and have donated dozens of hours into Fortnite trying to force myself to liking it. The reason I give Blackout my thumbs-up is because it feels more like a legitimate shooter that both PUBG and Fortnite couldn't really do. Although I have now put in about a dozen hours into Blackout, it seems I will never fully feel passionate about a Battle Royal gamemode. It's fun every once in a while, but not why I play FPS games.

Multiplayer is where I am conflicted. Ran into very few errors this past 6 days, other than network errors, but still ahead of most games in this league on opening week. Treyarch has completely ditched the wall-running and double-jumps, and that's how I like it. I got pretty competitive with BlOps3, so I got used to the movement there, but I now know this is what I prefer. As for the classes... meh. They really feel unfocused. To keep classes in a game like this balanced, you gotta be all in or not at all, and it felt like Treyarch went in half-way. It also feels like they are trying to add some "teamwork" and tactics in a game that is primarily a twitch-shooter. There is a game-mode like Counterstrike where you lose your abilities and just buy better guns and perks as the matches go on, but I kind of doubt there will always be a big pool of players lasting on that. Collision still seems a bit off, which makes me think this will never be a highly game for me as it's not sharp enough. But I had a good time. Just don't think I'll be playing this game at all in six months... So overall, do feel like a 7 out of 10 fits this game about right. I'll also be purchasing Battlefield V, so time will tell which one I will like more.

I will say that buying this game on disc opening day really accentuates the growing problem with our modern physical game-copies: even with the disc, I had to download somewhere close to 90 GB over my internet connection. I imagine that size will grow as the game goes through updates. Since you can't pick what downloads first, I was only able to play Blackout that first night. I think it's almost time that physical game-copies need to start coming as some sort of solid-state drives that wouldn't require downloading the entire game to the system's SSD.

The game comes with 16 maps at release compared to the normal 13, three zombies maps instead of one, and of course battle royale. But, all this extra multiplayer content comes at the expense of a single player campaign.

As for multiplayer, outside of a few changes to health and specialists, there's nothing new, and the changes aren't exactly for the better or may not appeal to the casual audience. The changes made such as the removal of auto health regeneration and only allowing one of each specialist per team may turn off the casual player base. Streaks are copied from previous titles with nothing new or exciting. The maps follow the same three lane design that has been overused throughout recent titles making them bland and repetitive. BO4 multiplayer does enough to separate itself from previous entries, but whether these changes are good or not have yet to be seen.

CoD finally has battle royale, Blackout. The mode itself is well done, but it does nothing for the battle royale genre itself copying mostly from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It does have some unique gimmicks though to help it standout such as famous maps from previous Black Ops titles, Black Ops campaign and zombie characters, and even a few zombie locations with AI zombies that you have to deal with, but as for adding and expanding the BR genre, it does nothing special. Overall, it's an enjoyable BR experience due to its optimization and performance. Casual fans that may not have enjoyed PUBG and other hardcore BR games may enjoy Blackout far more than other hardcore battle royales while still offering a somewhat serious FPS that may pull fans away from the silly and cartoon themed Fortnite BR., but hardcore BR fans may still prefer the realism of PUBG or the uniqueness of Fortnite more. But overall, it's an enjoyable experience that you will definitely sink your time into if you are into battle royales.

Zombies has been my favorite experience of BO4 so far. Offering the most maps at release than any other CoD, zombies is going to pull in the CoD zombies fan base hard. The mode is definitely more difficult than previous zombie modes which may turn off the casual fan base that grew in love with BO3 and IW zombies, but I welcome the challenge of bettering myself at the mode.

CoD continues to still push the Season Pass, however, in the form of the Black Ops Pass. The Black Ops Pass offers a bonus zombies map at release in Classified which is a remake of Five from Black Ops 2 and 12 multiplayer maps, 4 less than the usual Season Pass, while still maintaining the $50 price tag. It also includes character skins for Blackout BR. If you are a zombies fan then the BOP will definitely be worth it, but fans of multiplayer are stuck with 4 less maps than usual in the least hyped mode of the game. As for Blackout fans, it only offers skins. So unless you are a zombies fan, the Black Ops Pass does not seem worth it.

As a whole, Black Ops 4 is a decent entry into the CoD franchise. It does enough to pull in the battle royale and zombies fans, but fans of multiplayer have been given the short end of the stick with campaign fans left with nothing but specialist training missions. I give Multiplayer a 6/10, Blackout a 7/10, and zombies an 8/10 for a combined score of 7/10.

I would give this game 7.8 out of 10.

I have been playing CoD since its first inception on the PC. After playing the SP I quickly became addicted to the MP aspect of the game. Joining up into clans and having my first taste of competitive gaming was amazing. I loved that I could mod the game to my liking and customize what I wanted in general servers.

The first take away I have with BO4 is that it plays very well on the PC. More so then the last few CoD games. Everything feels natural and I can react accordingly which is great.

The multiplayer feels like a more polished BO3 with references to past BO games. A few of the new maps do feel a bit like repeated versions of other CoD maps though unfortunately.

Updated specialists' abilities and the way you can heal yourself are a good upgrade to the core game.

While Blackout is very polished and retains CoD's signature gunplay, it lacks in bringing any innovation to the already saturated game mode.

The graphics are as good as to be expected. There is nothing that really stands out and feels dated.

The sound design is excellent though. A few corrections here or there and I would say they are perfect for a game like this.

I will admit I have never been a fan of zombies but I do like the 3 campaigns they have. I actually got into them a bit more then I use to. I don't want to say much else or criticize because I know the mode has never been my favorite.

The lack of an SP campaign is the major draw back for a CoD game calling itself BO4.

If they would have just called it, BLACK OPS X... or ULTIMATE BLACK OPS... or seriously anything else I could have been okay with it. There is a VERY small storyline they have that lasts for about 15 minutes through cutscenes that are mixed with bot matches but that is it.

Black Ops had a great storyline going and to say this is its predecessor … even given the multiplayer is just going to far.

Black Ops 4 is almost like a best of all the Black Ops... but not quite.

I feel like this game lacked direction in its making.

It would have been great to have the m-16 from BO1 fighting in the Jungle level against some future solider with the gravity spikes. Instead they just kind of gave up on making it what it truly could have been. A best of collection of all of the Black Ops games we loved.

Never the less... the game is great to play. The multiplayer has the CoD speed and fun you know and love. Blackout is great if you've never played a Battle Royale game before or have been searching for a more twitch based version. Zombies impressed me.

BUY IF: You are a lifelong CoD fan and your main focus is on MP and want a CoD Battle Royale. You will enjoy the gameplay more then ever and if your a PC player, you will enjoy the optimization.

DISREGARD IF: You are a casual CoD fan, like what CoD has to offer with SP and not a fan of Battle Royale. You will find this very repetitive to Black Ops 3, without any SP and no real innovation that stands out.

I hope this was helpful. First review.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very odd take on the Black Ops series. The game fells almost like a free-to-play app. The removal of a campaign and the addition of a battle royale makes Black Ops 4 feel way different than it's previous installments. It was well received when it was first announced back in May 2018, getting everyone hyped for a new Call of Duty. When it first came out in October, the game was praised for it's intense gameplay and its cool new battle royale, but the game's glory didn't last for long. The graphics from the new engine BO4 ran on was a bit potato compared to BO3. The DLC rolled in, and the hate began to hit real hard after that. A lot, and I mean a lot of the DLC was "recycled content", consisting of guns from older CoD's, and re-used zombies maps with a "new story", and the return of supply drops; Because you can't make a Call of Duty game without micro-transactions. Blood of the Dead, Ancient Evil, Alpha Omega, and Voyage of Despair were very big let downs and were developed with the intention to make them "better than ever." The guns in previous Call of Duty's were balanced very well between each other, and while the base guns that don't require a supply drop to get, the other guns are very pay-to-win. Although some are okay (And some suck), others are very unbalanced and unfair at times. The S6 Stingray, AN-94, Grav, and Peacekeeper are all pretty powerful, and you don't even need a supply drop for the Grav. The Locus is a re-used weapon as well, but it's "meh", and the Vendetta is weak. The point is, Black Ops 4 is a game that was primarily made to compete against other Triple A titles and for nostalgia. I can't finish this review without talking about Tag Der Toten. In BO3, the final map to end it all was supposed to be Revelations, but everyone paniced, so Treyarch had to continue the Zombies story for just a little longer. Tag Der Toten (Day of the Dead) was named to be the opposite of Nacht Der Untoten (Night of the Living Dead), which was the first zombies map ever. The map is a re-master of Call of the Dead and takes place in the summertime, rather than winter (It's still cold). The map has the Victis crew (From Tranzit) as the last crew to ever see. The map is overall a great ending to a well-loved series, and I for one think that even though Black Ops has some pretty bad flaws, doesn't make it terrible enough to stop playing. Expand

This game has many problems in it. That does not mean it is not fun. Specialists can be annoying at times but it will cost you a bit if you are one to getting long streaks. Let’s talk micro transactions. These are a pain in the neck most of the time. But, Treyarch nerfed it a bit so it is not as annoying. Especially with the new black market update coming soon to make it easier to get other guns. League Play basically removes all your MP problems. Less specialists, team based modes, NO dlc weapons. Just skill and teamwork. Would rate mode 10/10. The only problem (more on Ps4 and PC then Xbox) is finding a lobby. I can never find a lobby in PS4 but I can on Xbox. Before MW, it takes a while to find a match (1 minute or less) because you need to find a lobby with people about your skill. Skill based matchmaking. The saving grace of BO4, Black freaking Out. Blackout is the reason why the day 1-(a lot) had many problems. The developers rushed to make this mode perfect. To be fair, it was perfect. Better than Fortnite obviously. Many LTMs fun ones too. Map changes between every Operation (no more Expand

But that main complaint is a huge one. I do enjoy playing in hardcore... its fun in its on way but I just wish I was better in regular modes. I've played a little of Blackout... just not my scene... not that good in battle royales. This a pretty good cod imo.

It's mostly black ops gameplay, had no problems whatsoever with crashing. In the end its an ok shooter thats still fun with the different modes, zombies being pretty fun. Definitely not the best COD but still pretty decent overall.

It’s not that I can’t respect it — it seems to offer decent value in that it’s essentially three different types of shooter in one package, but aside from the new Blackout mode, I’ve had significantly better experiences from many of its competitors. And honestly, Blackout’s main competition is a free-to-play game. It may be better than Fortnite in my opinion, but sixty dollars better? I’m not entirely convinced about that, and without a decent singleplayer campaign attached, it’s a pretty hard sell for anyone who isn’t already a fan.

Despite its generic title Black Ops IV feels like a fresh start for Call of Duty. The multiplayer and the zombie mode is very much the same as always, but with Blackout, Treyarch takes everything that is good with Player Unknown's Battleground and makes it better.

With no campaign to test your trigger finger, the trio of a safe (albeit polished) battle royale, waning multiplayer, and rotting Zombies make BLOPS4 feel like a relic next to a post-Forsaken Destiny 2. [Issue#156, p.94]
