It's city's are a mystery and there are many hard places to go. This game has a vast variety of enemies to fight. All the NPCS have a tale to there name, say one wrong thing and you could find them dead somewhere. From the amazing graphics to the outstanding gameplay I vote this game a 10 and highly recommend this to anyone. You'll have hours on end of fun Expand

From Software delivers yet again with Bloodborne. In this review, I give my opinions and ratings on the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, Last Impressions. This is followed by my final score.

    Gameplay: 10/10
    - Bloodborne plays similarly to the Souls' series. This time around things are a little faster and the game attempts to force you into being a more aggressive player with the new healing system on counterattacks. The combat is fluid and responsive. When you die, and you will die, you know it was your fault and not an error in the mechanics/controls.

    Story: 6.5/10
    - Bloodborne doesn't really give you much in terms of story, but if you played previous Souls' games you know the story is more in the lore, rather than being delivered in the game itself. You do get some sense of what's going on by talking to NPC's and watching the few cutscenes, but you can easily find yourself just killing monsters without actually knowing if there is a meaning behind what you're doing or not.

    Sound: 8.5/10
    - The sound in this game is very good. Much of the music is soft yet creepy, which suits the world and art design of the game very well. You hear the effectiveness of every slash, and visceral attacks have a brutal sound to go along with the devastating look. NPC voice acting is all done effectively, but can at times become dry and difficult to understand.

    Graphics: 9/10
    - The world looks absolutely excellent. Whether inspecting objects close up or looking far into the distance and landmarks you were previously at, the graphics do not disappoint. The gothic art style was something I loved personally, and really makes you feel as if Yharnam is not a place you'd want to be in for too long. The monster design is excellent and you can expect to see some terrifying and astounding enemies throughout your journey.

    Last Impressions
    - Bloodborne delivers in every way I was hoping it would. If you were a fan of Demon Souls/Dark Souls, you can expect to be a fan of this game. From start to finish it feels like a From Software game. Mechanics and gameplay are similar to the Souls' series, and Souls' veterans will find themselves getting used to this game quickly. Bloodborne isn't for everyone. It can be frustrating at times, but can also prove rewarding, if you're willing to give the time and effort to make it through the tough areas.

    Final Score: 9/10

Then after dying over and over again from ultra strong enemies I looked up a tutorial online just to explain to me how to play the thing. Once I learned how to actually play it however, that hatred went away and I absolutly fell in love with this game. The graphics are breathtaking, the gameplay is tight and intense. The combat system especilly shines when going up against other players online, every fight feels like a test of not just your characters level but your skills as a player. Every single bit of this game is engineered and painstakenly tweaked to make you feel truely like an outsider indulging yourself in the first class horror show that is Yharnum. This is not an easy game by any definition but anyone who considers themselves an RPG fan or hardcore gamer would be a fool to pass this game up. Expand

I love how the trick weapons offer differing weapon styles within a single weapon; cane whip, Ludwig's bastard sword, twin blades of mercy etc.
But what I enjoy most is its difficulty style, I love that it requires you to learn what each enemy does, their patterns, their weaknesses, and to exploit them. I am incredibly bored with the plethora of simple games that I can just blitz through without really paying attention or caring.

The difficulty style is what truly defines this game, and the first fight in it, will define whether this is a game for you.

I don't know too many games which feel similar to this and I think I will continue to come back to it years later, like I do with Arc the lad :Tots, Baldur's gate, and other great games.

I came into this game expecting a difficult hack n' slash RPG horror game. What I didn't expect, was the in depth and fantastic lore, created for Yharnam. It is by far one of my favourite backstories... And the gameplay is just as amazing. Better, in my opinion, than Dark souls, because of its faster pace and the more interesting weapons. If you own a PS4, then this is a mandatory buy.

The only reason why someone wouldn't like this game is if it's too hard for them to play or finish; that's all that could be notably bad about it. But with the difficulty comes great reward, whether it be beating a boss or getting past an area, every moment will fill you with joy. The setting and environment are some of the best ever made, it is not a typical horror game in a sense that there are jump scares and such, but it is more building tension due to the amazing orchestrated soundtracks and sound effects. Also, if you buy this game and finish it, and don't know what the hell the game was about, you've got some serious lore reading to do; because there are plentiful amounts of it, and every part of it is astonishing, how every single character, and every single small thing that you dismissed as a part of the environment would turn out to be some of the most important concepts in the game. But anyway, all in all, do yourself a favour and buy this game; it's simply brilliant. Expand

It is more of a good game design that rewards the player for putting in the effort. Anyone can learn to play this game and be good but I will admit it takes patience early on. As in past Souls games combat is the meat and potatoes of the game and this game takes a more offensive game and makes it even more deadly. Your given everything you need to win and succeed and it's up to you to not screw it up. Mistakes, lack of discipline and ingenuity will get your character killed. The game has a gothic setting with horrific and twisted creatures all their to murder you, the game has creeped me out more than all the horror games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil ever did. Highly recommended for Souls fans and anyone who wants to try a modern rogue-like RPG. A hellish experienced not to be missed!

Pros - Everything. Combat, controls, music and even when failing....knowing the feeling that you can beat anything the game throws at you regardless. It keeps you playing.

Cons - The load screens are a bit of a letdown, hopefully a patch down the road can speed things up.

Then some people complaining about how HARD it is, because all those groups are in the same one, the ones who couldn't make it passed the first 30 minutes. Listen up folks this is how to separate the winners from the losers. If you play games on easy, and 'for the story', go buy Order 1886. It is made for you.

The story, which is told in a very subtle fashion similar to other FROM SOFTWARE games, is deep and rich and is told through multiple methods. The world feels alive. Its as if you are trapped in the mind of Edgar Allen Poe during a nightmare of opium induced terror. The game functions a bit like survival horror in that items are limited and can become scarce while in the filed. The combat is precise and response and happens at a break neck pace. The most significant issues are the loading screen times, making the inability to succinctly fast travel a huge burden and immersion breaking. Frame rate drops happen at times and can really affect game play, particularly in online sessions of cooperative play or PvP.

If you have any interest in Bloodborne I highly recommend purchasing it.

GRAPHICS: Truly the best looking game on the PS4 to date. Incredible detail and textures, the application of cloth physics is amazing, lighting is superb and its a joy to look at.

SOUND: With only the occasional drop in audio while playing online and a few distance to reception quirks, the sound is fantastic.

SOUNDTRACK: Amazing, simply amazing. One of the best and most atmospheric soundtracks in any game.

VOICE ACTING: The voice acting is perfect, well written dialogue that is consistently delivered well.

STORY: One could play the entire game and only taste a portion of the story if they just want action or you can delve deep into the game and explore every nook and cranny for details. Told in a subtle manner with amazing side quests, the story telling is amazing. Exceptionally well written and well told without many cut scenes. This is some of the strongest story telling yet in gaming.

GAME PLAY: The game play is amazingly well crafted. The combat is tough, fair and fast with even the simplest of enemies able to exploit a mistake and capitalize on others that follow if you don't recover well. The rally mechanic, a form of limited duration regain, can make you reckless and will kill you, but if done well can make the difference between life and death. The ability to instantly store items when you are full is brilliant and allows for farming of needed items and materials when they get scarce. The refilling of needed items on death from your storage keeps you in the game and willing to take another run at the level.

GAME DESIGN: The level design is truly remarkable. Secret paths, interesting traps, interconnected and winding levels with adequate lantern (save points) sites creates a feeling of tension and urges you to explore more so you can find that next shortcut. One of the best designed games in a long time. However the choice to always require a return to the Hunters Dream Refuge (hub) and not allow fast travel between check points, coupled with unbearably long loading screens is mystifying choice. This is the only real ding I have for this game. Otherwise I find the title immensely compelling.

MULTI-PLAYER: Frame rate drops happen later in the game and particularly during online play. This and the loading screens and limited fast travel need to be addressed. Otherwise the cooperative play and PvP is really well executed and a joy to participate in.

Never played a Soul's game before. Decided to give Bloodborne a try for 2 reasons: some reviews saying its more friendly than Soul's series and the fact 2015 started really quite for PS4, so its one of the few games worth a try after 3 months in the year.

After 4 hours, trying hard to enjoy the game, I decided to give up. "Can't believe I paid full price for a game that I can't play, how can someone enjoy dying every 4 minutes, again and again?". One hour later, somehow I decided to go back. I tried and tried and tried. Now I can say It's one of the best games that I have ever played and I'm glad didn't give up after the initial frustration.

My advise: the games is not as hard as it seems, its actually hard, but its also fair. Its not a impossible task. You just't need to understand what the game is about. In the beginning of the game you don't know what you are doing, you kill 12 enemies, then die. You might think you need to do that again and again. Actually you don't need to. Every kill counts for you. If you die, you just need to recover your "blood echoes" on the floor, or kill a nearby enemy to get then back. As soon as you understand how the "blood echoes" work, everything makes sense. They are like "coins" that you can use for everything you need" buying armor, weapon, upgrading them and even levelling up. The more you kill, the bigger you be your amount of "blood echoes'.

Dying is not only a punishment, it might be reward, since when you get your "blood echoes" back from your previously death, probably you add "blood echoes" from your previous life you want to risk killing more enemies. So, all you need to do is to spend you "blood echoes" buying a new set of armor and leveling up. Then you will realize you are getting stronger and stronger, and your confidence will increase. After some hours will realize that those ugly big guys that seemed impossible in the beginning are no match for you. Killing everyone in your path without getting killed is not that impossible. But the games is never easy. Sometimes you will get killed by, what you consider weak enemies. Its your fault, because they are not that weak at all, you must always stay alert or you will die in a silly way. The game always remember you that, if you are killing everyone for fun, its not because the game is easy, its because you are mastering a very difficult game. Thats really satisfying.

In first hours there is a confusion about being necessary to kill every enemy in your path to the bosses, since there is no "checkpoints" between you and the bosses, only a hundred of deadly enemies. Actually there are checkpoints in form of shortcuts. You can reach the first 2 bosses after seconds if you discovery the right path, and you can ignore the enemies and go through the bosses.

The gameplay is fluid. Easily the best gameplay in a action RPG ever. Don't get me wrong, but the combat reminds me of Zelda games. Actually Bloodborne reminds me of darker and harder Zelda, a game where the "story" is secondary, and its all about discovering secret paths, killing enemies, slaying bosses and improving your characters abilities.

Art direction and ambientation are superb, even tough the technical aspects are not that great: frame rate decrease specially in scenarios with lots of fires. There are some poor textures here and there. Sometimes the sound transition between areas are way too abrupt and rough.

Just like Alien: Isolation, my 2014 game of the year, Bloodborne is nor frustrating or "too difficult". Dying is part of the process and is what makes those games enjoyable. They are a pleasure to play. Its a unique experience. I've never been that happy playing a game since my days of Zelda in my old N64.

I can't forget to mention abou the online aspect of the game. Its one of the few games who got this right, without forcing players to go co-op or stay online the entire game. you can read other players advise in the whole world. They are really helpful, but the best aspect is the co-op, that are related with the RPG elements. For example, you need a ring bell to call other players help. You can't use this ring bell all the time, and you might end up getting a bad guy trying to kill you instead of a friendly help. There are other ring bells that you can purchase, in order to help others or to kill them in their worlds.

In my second encounter with the boss Father Gascoigne and asked for help and the boss was dead after one minute. After that, I always help others players to beat bosses, its one of the most fun aspects of the game when you feel you are a deadly and badass hunter and you can help another player who see a boss as a impossible enemy to beat.

    A classic is born.

Gameplay: From Software is known for difficult gameplay that relies more on skill than what gear you have. That's not to say that there's a lack of items, because there's not, but it's refreshing to progress in game because you are getting better not because you're numbers are getting bigger (although bigger numbers do help).

Combat: The fighting is fast and fluid. The starting weapons I chose were the pistol and sawcleaver (a transforming weapon). In one form my melee was a fast swinging, arching, short range saw, the other form was a long reaching cleaver. While I wielded this weapon in my right hand, I had my pistol in the left. I soon realized this particular pistol was best used defensively. If you time your shot just right you can stun an attacking enemy leaving it open for a deadly riposte ; if you time your shot wrong you'll take some damage off as your target proceeds to eat your face. The firearms serve more purposes, that's just how I choose to use mine. Going shield-less (and you will for a while) keeps you on your guard as you rely on dogging and counter attacks. Any enemy can be beaten; any enemy can destroy you. If you take damage you have a brief amount of time to gain that health back by attacking. Quicksilver bullets can be found or purchased, but the ones you fuse from your own blood do more damage. I could write an essay on the combat alone, but I'll stop here.

Multiplayer: Summoning other players to die with you is great. Setting a summoning password making it easier to play with friends is fantastic. The problem is that ringing the summoning bell costs an insight point. When it's answered, and another player enters your world, it's worth it. When you spend a point and no one is summoned, it makes you never want to ring that bell again. Points are rewarded through various means, but they can be used for a purpose other than summoning. (I'm not going to spoil that)

Stability: I'm pretty far into the game and I have encountered only two bugs. I once got stuck in a cart mid roll and a I knocked a mini boss off of a tower and his items fell to an area I couldn't reach. Both of those bugs were fixed by exiting and reloading the game (the items were on the tower when I reloaded).

Story: From Software has a unique approach to story telling that some love and some hate. You start the game with very little information, but learn more as you progress through the game. The story is a mystery and is up to you to piece it together. To some this adds a sense of curiosity and discovery that makes exploration very engaging. To others they may feel like they're just mindlessly killing things for no reason.

    Cons:
*Starting with no real information makes stat allocation difficult. You don't really know if you'll want to focus on strength or dexterity (named skill in BB). You have no real idea what arcane is for and if you'll even enjoy the play-style it strengthens. My suggestion is putting points into vitality and endurance while you're figure that stuff out as you'll want health and stamina regardless of your build.

*I play online because I pity the fool who dares invade my game, but I wish I could turn off messages. Players being able to write messages on the ground warning or advising is a cool idea, but if there's a giant monster that's about to crash through the wall and try to put me in his belly I'd rather that be a surprise. Even if I don't read the messages, seeing 10 messages and 20 bloodstains (bloodstains allow you to see how another player died in that location) in one area is pretty telling.

*Summoning costing insight even if the summon doesn't work needs to be changed to costing a point only if someone is summoned.

*Because many items are hidden behind breakable objects, you'll find yourself rolling through everything breakable which breaks immersion a little bit.

Summary: In my opinion Bloodborne is the best game to release this console generation and deserves every bit of praise it has been receiving. While it's a smart move by Sony to keep this game exclusive, it's really too bad because this is such a unique masterpiece that should be enjoyed by everyone.

Advice: Do not read guides; this game is much more enjoyable going in blind.

I can see people who rarely play video games of this genre struggling with this game so maybe not entirely the casual players taste. BUT for those who have taken so many tries to beat a boss....kinda sad. I've managed to beat the first boss (cleric beast) on 2nd try and Father Gascoigne on 1st attempt. Challenging, yes, but manageable, of course. It does not take long to notice patterns in enemies and find quick methods to dispatch them. Advice: Dodge until you grow accustomed to these patterns.

Anyways, game is definitely worth the money IF you appreciate the genre and gothic brutal-ness of storytelling. Cons: Framerate is not great for the faster paced fighting. Long load times, but I find this more of a reason not to die haha. And kind of a thin variety of gear early on so far.

I played Demon's and Dark Souls back in the midst of the top FPS game wars for a change and realized I didn't have the patience to play those games. For lack of better words, they kicked my A** pretty bad. Fast forward to 2015 and here comes Bloodborne. I didn't realize it was from the same makers as Demon's and Dark Souls until the day the game came out. I was hesitant to play unsure if I'd even like it from my past experience with these types of games. Now I heard that this was more forgiving than its predecessors but does still hold a challenge. I put my first full weekend into the game and I will say I died a lot. I expected that but, I died a lot more than I thought I would. Like a lot a lot. I started hating it again but I took a break from it, took a breath and came back and died some more. Eventually I did what I read in every review, study. Study your enemy or they will kill you. After a full weekend and making a pretty good distance into the game I can't put it down. There is a sense of accomplishment when you finally get past that one part. I even had to look online for some hinters and I still died. Bottom line is, if you want a game where you'll die and feel good about coming out on top this is your game. This game has purpose and substance. Its not just some game you pop in and run through while on a cackle fest. Bring your A game. Oh yeah, it also helps that the scenery, characters, etc look gorgeous. Occasional frame rate issues and yes the horrible load times. Look at them as time to breath I almost feel it was intentional so you don't cry by dying as fast as much. I think I'll even pick up Dark Souls 2 when it comes out on PS4 with my new found appreciation for this genre. Expand

Second, this game is a master piece. It will definitely have the similar glory as god of war 3 and assassin's creed 2. The dark atmosphere, the architecture, the art design, they are breath holding. The fight and the move set of your hunter and weapons are really amazing and realistic. Just take a look at the visceral attack system and you will find it cool as hell. You are fighting as a skilled hunter, not a dumb super hero.

Finally, there is VERY RICH lore in this game. You will become fascinated by the deep background of bloodborne.

However, if you want to play a game that can be beaten relative mindlessly without re-trying and thinking, this game is definitely not for you. The reason you hesitate now will become the main point that you enjoy the game so much afterwards.

I want the challenge, I want to be absorbed into this fallen world, I want to fear and hear death, more than finding an awesome item, I want to yell when I die, and laugh like a psycho when I finally overcome a boss.

It does a lot of the things the SAME, but does a whole lot more BETTER.

Rather than running around with your shield up, you can now dodge, backstep, and roll like never before. When you get hit it highlights a portion of your life - if you can hit the enemy you start gaining that life back and if you are quick enough you don't lose it. This turns your playstyle much more aggressive. When the next Souls game comes out it *will* change the way you play.

The landscapes and graphics are mindblowingly beautiful. The soundtrack is amazing. I'm 16 hours in and have only been through 2 and 1/2 areas, having just taken down my third boss, and I'm a 600+ hour veteran from each of the DS games (about 1800 overall). It is brutally hard, but I've yet to want to stop. I can say this - the 3 boss fights I've had so far have been a thousand times better than any of the boss fights in the souls series. They are intense, they are brutal, and they are FUN. The third boss took me about 35 tries, and I really enjoyed each one and was a little sad I beat him. I want to progress, but that says something!

    And there's PVP.

Yet that's a problem if your new to the souls series then your going to have a frustrating experience that you may end up having to have to have your hand held by a veteran somewhat ruining the experience. I've got countless friend requests asking for help by new players not understanding the game, and even then still don't understand even after beating it because they didn't get to absorb this knowledge themselves. So that's basically the only flaw in my eye about this game, it's for the souls player and community, I'd say to get the entire full experience you can alone (if your new) play DS2 first, as in my opinion it's a good introduction and work your way backwards to Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls (if you want) if you got through those games than you will have little trouble adapting to this, for the people who don't want to do that then get out... I don't think I need to explain to anyone how the 'Souls' games work, as everyone is already aware. From the outset you should be aware that Bloodborne first and foremost takes the template from before and puts it into a new 'set of clothes' as it were, whilst twisting it, and inventing some ingenious new rules.

Presentation is a little bit of a mixed-bag; the issues that plagued the previous games (wierd ragdoll physics and a slightly iffy framerate at times), coupled with slightly long loading times, and a need to drop the player into the game without a proper explanation of the mechanics, can turn potential newcomers off. And for a moment there at the beginning, you may just wonder if this is what the power of the PS4 is all about?

Okay, that's the bad points out of the way - now lets focus on the good!!

The world you are in is MASSIVE, and is clearly the star of the show!! It is by far the biggest world in any of these games, and there is so much to discover that it becomes the biggest antagonist of the game by far. Its a beautifully created world, so staggering in its detail and devastating art, that you forgive the loading times and the framerate, because its clearly apparent that the power of the PS4 has been used not for dynamic gimmicks or 'showboating', but genuinely for the purpose of realising a vision, and not compromising. Coupled with enemies that are equally as well thought-out, you

The music is beautiful, and the sound effects are breathtaking, not only in how they relate to the atmosphere (and in ways you'd never expect - I'll never turn my back on a rat EVER AGAIN!!), but they telegraph events to you, providing a dimension that I've mentioned before, and no doubt has been criminally overlooked - the fact that the sound provides the extra dimension, as it were.

The gameplay on the surface has been overhauled too, and the combat is different in its implementation, but has a satisfaction all of its own. The game also harbours a depth that was last seen in Demon's Souls, that like an iceberg is much more under the surface than you'd think. Its gripping in the ways of an action game, yet the strategies and the adventure/role play elements infect enough to provoke dare I say it - an addiction to the game? Certainly!!

Bloodborne should not be approached if you think that you're going to be washed in the latest greatest technical masterpiece to be lauded-over, it is not that game. What it is however is a game that if you let it, will grip you from the very beginning, and will probably never leave you.

For the count, I say give it a chance at the very least, it deserves that. If you missed Demon's Souls (and many did), give it a chance, it will suprize you.

Load times are 15 seconds at MOST with my SDD. Frame rate can still be a little spotty, but it's never too much of a problem because the game runs at 30FPS anyway (which looks really slow to me). The game is legitimately scary in its atmosphere and well spaced jump scares. The weapons are all fun as hell, but it doesn't seem to have too many weapons. It's fine though, because all the weapons are unique and vastly different than one another. Playing with the threaded cane (which is massively overpowered by the way) is completely different than playing with the saw cleaver. 97/100, so basically a 10/10, it's a mastahpiece Expand

Bloodborne is an AMAZING successor to the 'Souls' series. Building on what makes the SOULS series great, Bloodborne expands it's machanics, gameplay, atmosphere, and story to deliver a great experience! Bloodborne will feel familiar to any fan of the SOULS series, and offer a true "next gen" experience. If you played the game for more than 30 minutes, you'd know that the weapon system, enemy AI, graphics, story, writing, and overall polish of the game has been improved upon from the previous titles. It's worth noting that I have encountered exactly ZERO bugs or glitches in this title so far.

If you're a true fan of ANY of the games in the SOULS series, you will not be disappointing with this game. If you're a newcomer, be prepared for a challenge and realize that, that's a good thing. Don't get discouraged, and step up to the plate. You will feel a more rewarding experience (as in anything in life) when you finally achieve victory.

Good news are that this game lives up to it's hype and the good critic reviews. Controls, opponent design, character customization and development are really good. Some may not like the art-style of this game (like me), while others will probably love the dark, creepy graphics style. However this doesn't matter a lot in terms of the fun you definitely will have with this game.

I personally like this game's mechanics a lot more than the ones of the Dark Souls series as this game is more fast paced. Nonetheless it is still as punishing as it's predecessor, which is a good thing since I am absolutely fed up with games that you just spend hours over hours with to grind for materials or to steam roll through the levels without ever having faced a single challenge. Just be aware of the fact that this game is tough as nails! But this also is why this game feels so rewarding and satisfying ... you have to be on your toes at all times since even the weakest mob can kill you within 3 seconds at the beginning of the game. But once you made it to the next save spot ... boy you will feel a relief and you will know you really earned the credits to upgrade your gear with.

If you disregard some of this game's technical flaws, such as loading times of 25 seconds with a SSHD (which might be fixed with a future patch) as well as significant fps drops, the game easily can be rated as a 9. I am glad to have picked up this game and I can't wait for spending more time with it in the upcoming evening!

Most of the time you die because you did something wrong. It's not so much that one mistake costs you the game. It's the fact that you panic and blooper a repeated button mash error. Master your fear, let your muscle memory kick in and learn from others. Watch videos for tips and tricks. Half the time you can run by an extremely tough foe and take a shortcut. Heck my game got much better once I figured out how to jump in this game. Level up explore the world around you. There is no need to rush into a boss fight. And know when to cash in your blood echoes and not push your luck. You have to play the game long enough to unlock the doll who sells you upgrades to your stats. They nail risk vs reward in this game. Once you figure out what you're doing wrong you'll roll over the enemies that used to bully you. I absolutely love this game. It reminds me of the old days of console gaming where you have to work to figure out the puzzle. The action is brutally quick like Ninja Gaiden Black. But once you get good like learning how to roll properly in NAM 1975 (neo-geo days) you don't die all that often and you feel god like. Remember 1st playing Castlevania on NES? Or Ninja Spirit on Turbo Graphx 16? Revenge of the Shinobi on Sega Genenis? Bloodborne is creating a new memory for me I'll never forget. Expand

The world is absolutely beautiful despite largely taking place in dank Victorian alleyways and sewers. The attention to detail is similarly stunning. The old Dark Souls blend of triumph and frustration are meted out to you as you journey through an relentless and unforgiving nightmare, the truth about which is slowly revealed. Additionally, the mechanics are solid, the enemies and bosses varied and the level design superb.

There may be less items to discover than in Dark Souls 1 and the absence of sorcery and miracles, but Bloodborne innovates in other ways. Arming the player with a firearm that damages beasts but merely stuns other enemies is a stroke of genius, as is tranformable weapons.

All the old Dark Souls tropes are there, an interconnected world full of shortcuts, enigmatic characters who allude to the truth below your character's veneer and the online component of assisting or invading other players.

Bloodborne is an instant classic. It has an atmosphere unlike any other game I've played. It will make you jump out of your seat in fright, throw your controller across the room and jump for joy in equal measure. The one real bad mark blotting its copy book is the agonisingly long loading times in between areas and after each death. But this is a small price to pay to experience such a lovingly crafted and well thought out adventure.

I rented this game at a redbox, and borrowed a PS4 from my friend to try out this game for a week. My main complaint for this game though is the constant 30fps. Since games such as Demon Souls, and the Dark Souls series has a lot of action going on, and require quick reflexes, the 30fps does not help at all, it feels as if the controls are a bit more delayed with it running 30fps. I truly hope to see this game come out for PC as well, mainly because I have always favored how the Dark Souls games played with a keyboard and mouse, rather than a controller, but that's just a preference, and the 60fps would be nice too. But good job on the game though, from a person who rarely plays consoles, and has been a PC gamer for 10 years now, I congratulate you on the success of the games release, and keeping it fun and challenging! It is the players fault, by dying over and over again, the mistakes of the player is highlighted. So the next time a player encounters the same problem where he/she dies, they make a different strategy to avoid death.

From Software seems to have reviewed and looked back on the older releases of the series and in my opinion has made a polished more exciting way of playing the games old mechanics with new twists that really change the way the game is played. The player and the enemies are made to move a lot faster mainly for the reason that this game contrary to the earlier releases of the series doesn't have almost any type of defensive combat tactics that are viable. The game encourages you to be constantly on your toes as there is no option to "armor up" your character, this alone also affects the atmosphere of the game not to mention the visuals and the soundtrack that enhances the experience. As one would expect from From Software studios they have an amazing people who design the world, map/areas, the lore and it all mixes into a one big living world that really makes you feel like you have left your living room to a beautiful world of blood and gore mixed with frustration and the satisfying feeling of clearing a boss fight that keeps you from sleeping at night.

As for the cons of the game that really do not affect my opinion on my game as i stated before, the online play (if played with high latency) affects the framerate of both sides of the online players. A few bugs i have heard of but not many in my playtrough. I personally would've wanted the game to be at the difficulty of a new game+ right from the beginning but i understand that it would make the game too overwhelming for people who are first time getting into the series .

Also this game altough at first might look like a simple at first, has a deep class and stat progression and level up system which is almost essential for a player to understand and study in order to progress in the game without going crazy. The game has hordes of enemies punishing your every mistake of leveling up wrong stats of your character to using wrong equipment or sword swings depending on the situation, the game wants you sit back for a while and think in hindsight what could i do differently to progress. If this makes you excited then i would definitely recommend this game for you. Also this game can be very provocative (mostly thought provoking) even if it is mostly a single player experience, and would recommend getting an insurance for your TV and controller if you're known to have anger management issues.

This will not be easy however. A lot of people have been complaining about the low frequency of save points. This game hits almost every nerve in this old Souls fan's pleasure center. Graphics are stunning. Atmosphere is cuttable with a knife. Even the story is compelling.

Why it doesn't get a perfect score from me is because it reminds me too much of Bayonetta. Yes, that game with the BDSM dominatrix with a whip. I do enjoy the more fast-paced battle system, but it often feels too streamlined, and really, how many strategies are there for killing mobs? In this game, I have two.

Second thing is that I feel the armor/weapon system has been made newbie-friendly in a sense that what matters the most (really) is selecting the right starting weapon for your play style, and then fortifying it to the max. There really is no alternative. Sure, you can switch weapons later on in the game, but making the new axe/sword/cane stronger than the starting weapon is really a struggle. In Souls games, you pretty much counted your stars to get a good drop later in the game (halberd for life), and then stuck to that weapon of choice after experimenting with other tools up to that point. Bloodborne has made this part of the exploration and experience moot.

Secondly, while I do understand the choice of not including any uber armors in the game considering the drain life mechanics of battle, it just sucks some of the soul (pun intended) out of the game.

    No micromanagement needed.

    Much like in Bayonetta.

    Still, love the game.

The game has relatively good polish but since it's exactly the same as the previous games in From Software's legacy - that is the use of exact same game mechanics (ooooh no shield this time, what a revolutionary change that is), stats (actually they got worse, bad move!), obscure story telling and atmosphere, I'm not that impressed here. And nor should any gamer who expects improvements.

I'm particularly not impressed with how easy the game was to beat. I found most of it WAY too easy. Beat most bosses on first try. I always play offline so cant speak for the thrill of online. Whats worse, as the game progressed, my weapon choices and armor/skin choices did not. I stuck with the same weapon I got because there was nothing better. In terms of how this could have played out, there never was an incentive to change it up, which brings me to the glaring problems this game has. There's not tactic here, and no real fear anymore. Whereas once you had such a limited amount of Estus flasks and really cared for every hit you took, here you have 20 healing opportunities, and pretty easy 'save points' along the way.

So weapons dont matter (and isn't it about time they should? why are these games not evolving their sophistication? should we just give these games 10/10?). Using big hammers or swords or saws mean nothing, they have very little distinguishing differences.. Charge time is the same (or negligible if a purist can point out its not).

Stats took a massive step back when they needed a massive step forward! One reason I dont see myself playing New Game + is that the stats dont excite me one bit. Bloodtinge? Arcane? really?! why would I boost these in the normal game? there is no incentive at all. Actually, there was no incentive to weigh up how I was going to spend my stat upgrades - since Skill was rubbish and didn't even have weapons to strive toward like in previous titles. Strength, meh. And in the past Endurance had an effect on your burden, and speed, and without it its just lessened the overall charm of skill tree decision making.

Speaking of skill tree, why isn't there one? Same fighting mechanics, but nothing to look forward to. To me this meant a relatively stale experience repeating the same movements over and over without incentive. Weapon upgrades and 'gem' modifications were a joke this time. Pointless. As were the Runes, all of which offer negligible effects you could easily live without. Why not offer proper incentives like offering a new move, or fire weapon, or something useful and INTERESTING for me to care about the Runes, or gems.

Atmosphere is good in this game with beautiful visuals and excellent music - best yet in my opinion due to more haunting orchestral choir, reminded me of Vampire Hunter D, good ambience sounds too. but again if the game is too easy, it just means I'm not afraid. In Demon Souls I'd tread so carefully but in Bloodborne I'm king.

Thats my genuine gaming experience with it and I enjoyed playing yet another Souls style game but I sincerely hoped for more, shouldn't we expect more these days?

    A couple of other irritations:

-Loading times were bad and the logo you stare at could at least be more interesting. Or have world facts on screen or something? and what was worse was you couldn't teleport between locations without having to go 'back to base' which was hugely irritating.
-No pause. Wow, I cant pause the game. Really? I can quit and it'll pick up where it left off but if my wife calls me I'm stuck and cant give her my attention.
-No explanation about how things work - this has always irritated me in the series, I know some people like it but to me it just feels clumsy and unpolished. There are so many aspects where I didn't realise the use of an item or the benefits. People say to go to forums and research about facets you're stuck with but I say that turning a blind eye to a big problem that we're all trying to pretend isn't a big deal when actually it is. I dont have time to mess about on basics.
-Voice acting in general, and script, is pretty b grade. Just means less immersion and From Software have had a history of bad choices here, you'd have hoped they'd hired better professionals in this area.

The hype of fans praising this as the great 'genius' game, best yet etc is fair enough for those who just want the same thing over and over but really for some of us we were hoping for something that IS genius and innovative, that takes things to a new level. There is nothing in Bloodborne that is taking things anywhere it hasn't already been. And while I'll give this game an 8 because its doing what its classic style does best, this is by no means a better game, or a more evolved one and that is a great shame we shouldn't lap up so easily/willingly..

If you are not a hardcore gamer or a gamer who can play your average action RPG on a difficulty above easy you probably will hate yourself for putting a single dollar out for this game. But if you are a gamer looking for a true challenge with plenty of extreme action, fun replay value, great multiplayer and a unique twist on everything then this is a game you must own.

As a person new to the "Souls"-type games, this game absolutely blew my mind away. Extremely sharp learning curve and very difficult at first, but it gets better after killing the first boss (but still difficult). The horror art style, sounds, and overall atmosphere is breathtaking and appropriate to what a dark fantasy game should be.

Overall, a very well-made game and could be contender for Game of the Year. Do not get discouraged if you die a million times to top hat wearing, bearded, blade-wielding men and brick trolls. Learn from that and come back even stronger.

Gameplay is brilliant and a notch above the previous souls titles, fast and fluid, you will feel the weight behind every swing. the satisfaction behind every visceral attack, the fulfillment of stomping over the corpse of your foes. Stats has been streamlined to allow for more focus builds and still allow for enough diversity such that everyone should be able to create a combat style they like.

Cons: PvP is kind of hit and miss, there's no issue with gameplay (apart from the usual honor crowd crying and whining about healing), but connectivity truly needs to be improve upon. 10-15 minutes between matches is a frustrating experience that will make dedicated PvP players sob. Hopefully a PvP arena style DLC can be introduce in the future to address this.

Bonus Free Online Content: After beating the game, you get to enjoy the prestigious feeling of being one of the few that beat the game and not letting the game beat you. Get you popcorn and beverage, there's plenty of whiners and crybabies who will claim the game is too hard or is of bad game design, their spirits has truly been broken by Bloodborne.

Unlike most games that are easy enough to beat without too much effort, it is entirely possible to not beat Bloodborne if you don't learn how to play correctly. Mechanically sound, visually haunting, controls very well. Like other From Software games in recent memory, the story is interesting, but doesn't start to come together until the 2nd half of it. Combat is very fast-paced, yet deliberate and tactical.

If you enjoy Dark Souls or Demon Souls, buy this game. I can almost guarantee you'd enjoy Bloodborne If not, at least consider the purchase. Watch videos of gameplay. See if it looks like something you'd like.

The graphics are excellent with a decent variety in visual themes for each area. If I had to pick one graphical issue that bothers me it would be that in many prerelease gameplay videos I watched, the blood spray effect would continue long after the enemy was slain and would only stop when the player stop slashing. I wish they kept that feature but it's possible the hardware or engine limitations prevented them from keeping it. The thing that kept me most interested in the game was the world and atmosphere, I just wanted to see what was next. Some of the visual images are really memorable even if it's something as simple as two barn doors rattling in the wind.

The combat is fun but I don't think it offers the depth or innovation of demon/dark souls. You basically have 3-4 stats to level up and 3-5 interesting weapons worth using. The runes and blood gems don't really add much variety to your build. I think anybody expecting the heavy RPG elements of the last game will be upset. Fortunately many enemies have a huge variation in attacks and combos and they sometimes evolve when your insight level gets higher (not sure if it's insight level or just your overall level). Every time I think I've seen it all I get surprised by a new attack, timing, or combo. Overall I really enjoyed the game but miss the depth of the Souls games. I think the game lost some of the originality of the Souls genre when they tried to integrate hack&slash gameplay instead of creating a unique and new genre defining fusion. With regards to graphics, level design, and atmosphere, Bloodborne gets a 10/10, I loved walking around this world. Combat and gameplay get an 8/10, good enough to enjoy the game but not very memorable.

The load time are atrocious (but should be fixed soon in a patch), and are by far the biggest obstacle you'll face in the entire game. Difficulty is on par with the souls games in general (DS2 is easier, though, and Bloodborne is only truly tough in the chalice dungeons). The atmosphere, graphics and sound are simply spectacular. While the level design is not as entwined as that of Demon's Souls or DS1, it is still quite awesome.

If you love the souls games but isn't a franchise fanatic, you'll absolutely love this game, if you don't like any of the souls games at all, you'll probably be better off having a pass on this one. If you're a souls fanatic, and not just a long time fan of the franchise, you'll generally love the NG experience and hate on a lot of things afterwards. This will mainly be due to nostalgia, but also, at least in some small part, because you've got nothing better to do than to cap crap at random people on the Internet :)

    Hope this was helpful.

Though the gameplay is rough around the edges and even dated in some aspects, Bloodborne is an intelligently designed action-RPG elevated to excellence by a superb Gothic atmosphere and an ambiguous storyline which gently invites you to unravel mysteries as unfathomable to the in-game characters as they are to you. Anyway, dummy back in.... I have only ever played a small section of Dark Souls 2 on PS3 and sold the console/game before properly getting into it. The others have simply passed me by and possibly I was put off by the renowned difficultly. However, after hearing much praise for this and being quite drawn into the 'gothic' setting I thought I would give it go...

I am so glad I did as I have now completed this game twice and can honestly say it is without doubt the best game I have played on this New Gen and possibly one of the best games I have ever played full stop.

Yes it was challenging, and yes I spent 2 - 3 nights repeatedly trying to beat certain bosses (I only get a couple of hours gaming a night these days..), but once I had beaten them, or a particularly challenging section of the game, I found the feeling of accomplishment and reward that I had not felt in years with a game.

It is a game that anyone should at least give a go and I promise if it's given the time of day, you too will enjoy the sense of reward this game offers. Currently at 80 hours play and you don't get that kind of value for money from many games these days.
