I love Bloodborne, but at a $20 pricetag the DLC was way too short. I am also dismayed that this is the only DLC. I was able to complete the whole DLC with every trophy in about eight hours. Outside of the fishing village there really was no new landscape assets either. I get that they need continuity, but I felt that they could have done some more interesting environments. Adding a bunch of weapons was nice, but that could have just been sent out as free DLC.

If you are buying the complete edition then 10/10 if you are buying the DLC as a standalone 7/10.

Some decent new areas to explore with a couple of interesting new bosses (Lady Maria) which can of course be completely ruined with the poorly designed parry mechanics, and a couple of irritating bosses(The last boss is literally an average undead human that swings around a weapon like an idiot). New weapons that are mostly useless and uninteresting, a new spell that is of course beyond useless for virtually anything. Rehash content everywhere, reskinned dark souls enemies once again, stupid fish-men lovecraft memes, reskinned cleric beast fight but with flames and lava. As usual in the horrid souls series, you'll find yourself running past all of this "amazing" content pretty quickly.

Taking away a point from 7, for being exclusive to a platform that forces you to pay Sony to use your own internet connection.

This DLC is fun, in the beginning. It is undoubtedly very hard (compared to the main game) and sadly doesn't ad anything new in mechanics. This results in a frustrating but atmospheric expansion at the same time. But to be quite honest, as opposed to some people that state the boss fights are better than in the main game, I personally thought them less iconic and more repetitiv.

People who are giving it 10/10 are exaggerating it kinda average

it's alright but feels squashed together the whole dlc and the new attire is kinda disappointing because only some of it looks good and there is only 5 new sets which is disappointing considering this is mean't to be two dlcs combined so it should of been 10 new sets instead but w/e Besides that the bosses are all cool

Besides that the bosses are all cool design wise but a few of them seem to do ridiculous damage even on new game and can one shot you with 2000hp (mainly the cleric beast and horse man)

new areas are great except the first part which is just a recycled from the base game which seemed lazy to me.

but meh that's all i really gotta say for now it's 3 am

Old Hunters is a pretty solid expansion that adds more Bloodborne content and should be a must pick for all Bloodborne fans. On the other hand, I wasn't really blown away by it in a way I was with vanilla game, it doesn't really improve the base game, just adds more stuff, areas, few bosses and plays it quite safe. Bosses I feel are the strongest part, with again fantastic music and challenge, Lady Maria being my favourite, intensive and hard duel in a beautiful setting. From weapons I loved the new Moonlight sword which in combination with Loch shield and metal helm pushed me to create a really nice paladin character. On the other hand, i was not such a huge fan of new locations and the overall story left me a bit disappointed by the time I finished it. However, it made me go through entire Bloodborne again and refreshed my opinion that this game is just a total masterpiece. 7/10 Expand

Just to put things in perspective, I gave the main game a 10/10 and absolutely loved it. This DLC was entertaining but somewhat disappointing. I think my main gripe is that if I look at the entire package--for example, if I had bought the complete game with DLC included and started my first play through from scratch--the DLC doesn't seem to fit in very well with everything else. I think my main gripe is that if I look at the entire package--for example, if I had bought the complete game with DLC included and started my first play through from scratch--the DLC doesn't seem to fit in very well with everything else. It just felt very much like they tacked on a few extra levels with some very tough enemies and bosses for the sake of pushing DLC out. The weapons have a coolness factor to them, for sure, but ultimately they don't get the job done any better than the previous weapons, which makes them pretty useless as you progress. And the settings were almost entirely copies of settings from the main game that they tweaked and called the Hunter's Nightmare so they could produce "new" areas quickly and cheaply. I guess I was hoping for more considering it took 8 months for the DLC to come out and cost quite a bit for a DLC. Overall it was pretty good because I love the Bloodborne style of play, but relative to the rest of the game it's hard to give it a higher score than a 7/10. Expand

The DLC would be as good as the base game except for the sudden spike in difficulty for Orphan of Kos. He requires such precise timing with parry and dodging leaving virtually no room for error. He can kill you in seconds and it's infuriating. There's also no NPC summon. I managed it, but it wasn't nearly as rewarding.

My recommendation is to get the whaling Loran Chalice and get a random dungeon full of those cloaked poison enemies. There's a room on floor one next to a lamp that drops 50k blood stones. I went from level 115 to 180 in less than 5 hours. Also great to mine for purchasing items.

Some insist that Souls’ and Bloodborne’s greatest quality is their sadistic difficulty. If so, The Old Hunters is hands down the best game by From Software. [02/2016, p.48]

Grueling, gruesome, but ungrudging, it expands on all that's great about the original. Marvelous. [Jan 2016, p.79]
