Do political and social issues have a place in games' narratives? Yes, if they are done right. Look at Hellblade for example, an excellent game about dementia. But what if corporate greed coupled with political correctness, feminism and SJW agenda make it into games, in the name of "appealing to everyone and not just white teen boys from the West"? You get games such as (but not limitedDo political and social issues have a place in games' narratives? Yes, if they are done right. Look at Hellblade for example, an excellent game about dementia. You get games such as (but not limited to) Battlefield V.

I know Battlefield V is just a game and it's not supposed to teach history. Problem is, DICE said they "put fun over authenticity", which doesn't make sense because Battlefield has traditionally been a historical FPS series (well, not too historically accurate, but you get my point). When you depict women and tattoed people fighting in the frontlines of WW2 like action heroes and featuring prosthetic arms in the 1940s with an eye towards today's sociopolitical climate, it's not a historical FPS anymore, neither historical fiction. It's not even alternative history, like the Wolfenstein series, or cyberpunk like the Dishonored series. It's historical revision to appease the crazed feminists and SJWs of modern times.

Don't get me wrong, women and black people and Asians and others did help in WW2 battles against the Axis powers, but historical facts differ significantly from what the game shows. If EA and DICE made a game set in modern or future times, there would be no "historical accuracy" controversy. But WW2 was not like this. Like it or not, it was mostly fought by white men. I'm not campaigning for white/male supremacy or anything like it, but History needs to be treated with care and respect, not be manipulated to serve anybody's agendas.

Judging it as a game though, Battlefield V's gameplay (at least in multiplayer modes) is solid. The same Battlefield gameplay experience since BF3 is still here, more or less. Now you can build some fortifications (inspired by Fortnite's build mechanic) in predetermined spots, trying to get an edge over the adversaries. Graphics are great, but on consoles pop-in can be eye-catching. Frame rate on PS4 is mostly in the 50-60 fps range. But Battlefield V is severely lacking in content, even for a game that's supposed to be expanded upon and supported for a year. The campaign (aka tutorial) features a handful of small War Stories (like in Battlefield 1), but they are very short and the enemy AI is quite dumb. There are very few maps at launch. And the battle royale mode doesn't launch until March 2019 or so. At least there are no loot boxes in Battlefield V, and DLCs will be free of charge.

If you are a Battlefield series veteran, you know what to expect. But I'd advise people to wait for more content to be added before they buy the game.

The story mode felt uninspiring there fast and forgettable still present unliked some certain shooting coming every year, yet the Multiplayer feels refreshing in the WW2 setting as long we get Russian and War in the Pacific 1942 classic maps this would be a great price.

Yeah no. This is an insult to WW2. And EA challenge us? You don't want me to buy the game? So be it. I'll keep playing BF1 for the years to come.

Multiplayer is the worst Ive seen ever in a BF game. The Singleplayer is quite possibly the worst I've ever seen in a game. Retarded AI, story story and the most unfair situations ever. I regret buying this terrible game

The game right now if completely unfinished and needs more content. After not even an hour I was bored of Battlefield 5 and that's coming from someone with 1,500 hours in BF4 and 500 hours in BF1. On top of that EA called it's customers "uneducated" and has tried to ruin WWII with feminism and crazy stuff that never happened in WWII. This game's only strong point is the tighter gunplay than BF1, though that's a really low bar to set. It has decent gunplay but all the vehicles have been sort of removed from the game. You never really see more than one tank or plane ever. This game has increasingly become call of duty with more players. It's a s***show of pew-pew-ing. This game is a crappy excuse for a shell of a Battlefield game and you should just get BF4 or some other game instead. Expand

SJW revisionist trash. Do not support

Battlefield games are played predominantly by men and boys. And WW2 was a war predominantly fought by men and boys. Idiots trying so hard to be "woke". You just can't mess with that iconic WW2 stuff we've seen in history books, old combat footage, historical photos. You just can't mess with it

Despite the sensational polarization you see here between users giving this game a 0 and giving it a 10, it is neither. In its current state, assuming 5 is an average game, it is a 4.

It's an unfinished game with a $60 price tag. The only difference is they don’t plan on charging us for the rest of the game this time like they did with Battlefield 1. I guess that’s why they couldn’t

I bought the Deluxe edition and have been playing since the 15th. My PS4 dock has BFV, BF1, and BF4 on it. They’re all I play. With that in mind, I have to be honest in that even with the flashy new graphics, this game has nothing to offer that isn’t already more polished and enjoyable in BF1 or BF4, depending on your play style preferences. The only other interesting factor - the historical context - isn’t really even truly there. I’m not going to knock the game for taking creative liberties, but it very truly does not look like WWII much of the time.

With that in mind, the gunplay is great. There are some important gameplay changes that I’m happy to see. Ammo is a factor to be concerned about again, both for infantry and vehicles. The building system makes for interesting situations that keep the battlefield dynamic and changing.

But the game just isn’t there. The single player campaign is still an afterthought with little depth (and there is still an entire story of the campaign which they haven’t finished yet). The music isn’t even a shadow of what it was in BF1. There are fewer multiplayer maps on release than there were in BF1 or BF4. Grand Operations is fundamentally broken, and doesn’t provide the same excitement as BF1’s operations - whether you win or lose has no effect on the “outcome” of the battle in its historical context. There are no Russians, French, Americans, Japanese, or other factions besides the British and the Germans. For the so-called “staggered release” the developers planned, there are weapons from all years of the war present, even though it’s supposed to only take place in 1940 - see, e.g., the STG44 or the MG42.

This game had a lot of bad press, and probably rightfully so. EA and Dice handled customer backlash in an extremely poor and unprofessional manner. The beta was a mess and worried a lot of people given its proximity to the original release date. There are a lot of triggered people because it has women in it or has customizable characters. I truly could not care less. It’s a video game. I understand that WWII is still a very emotional subject for a lot of people - we had 5 KIA in my own family. But it’s a video game. We had a KIA in the First World War as well, and BF1 wasn’t a pinnacle of historical accuracy either, by almost any measure. Maybe people just love history. There are still great, historically accurate WWII games out there. I’d suggest getting into PC gaming if that’s your thing. Here, though, I’m glad people are going to be able to feel comfortable looking like themselves in a game. But for all the fancy trendsetting...

It just doesn’t work. It was poorly marketed, poorly planned, and poorly executed. It could be a very, very great game. It just isn’t in its current state, and there is a lot of work to be done.

If you want this game, don’t buy it yet. Give it 3-6 months.

The worst part was at one point I literally thought I was playing BF1, there Is hardly any difference between the two whether It Is graphically, gameplay, customization, or layout. The Maps are plain, recognizable and In no way unique. We've seen all the vehicles and weapons 100 times over, there are many graphical glitches and historic Inaccuracies It hurts... This Is not a £50 game to put It out there.

On the other hand, the shooting Is solid, the same as most BF games. It Is Immersive, you do feel Involved and there are rare magical moments, the graphics are spectacular (same as BF1) but there Is no soul In this game. Once you've played the game for a few hours, you've played It all near enough. There Isn't much to keep you occupied or to keep you thinking about It all day. To give the game a 1 or 0 Is ridiculous, but It Is a wait for sale purchase In my eyes.

Been having tons of fun playing solo and even more with friends.
Assignments are fun, nothing too serius or hard. Usely something like "revive x amount of team mates" or get x amount of points in x game mode.

New nations, maps and game modes will be added later. The game will definitely be going strong for the next few years with content being added to keep it fresh.

If you like online shooters this is worth your investment in both $$$ and time spent playing.

In many ways, Battlefield V feels like a big step backwards for the franchise. The campaign is boring and frustrating, multiplayer is unbalanced, and bugs keep popping up in every mode to ruin the experience. The fortification system is a good shakeup, but the good it brings is tempered by the cumbersome and murky Grand Operations. With some patches, balance changes and bug squashing, BFV could be a fantastic game, but at the moment, this soldier needs to go back to basic training.
