I give this Battlefield roughly an 8.5, it's rounded up. I hate when people do this, but the **** here is simply unreal. The whole female thing did bother me at first, but then I did some actual research: women did fight in WW2, for the Russians and in resistance units all across Europe. Sure they weren't in every battle depicted in the game, but neither were some of the uniforms, or vehicles, or guns, and most of the real life battles played out wildly different. It's a **** game, people need to chill out and find something else in their life to be passionate about that's not escapism and political anger.

    On to the review.

    Background:
I have played BF4, BF1, and was unemployed during the BFV beta (so I got to level 30). So far I've played 8 hours of BFV Deluxe release which came out yesterday. As you all know the real release is next week, so there are still quite a few bugs and it's not the true launch yet.

    Cons:

    - The UI SUCKS.
Here it's kind of the same style as BF1, except BF1 didn't have so many customization options. So expand that crappy UI for more complex dynamics and you get the idea.

    - No Spotting.
Spotting was what made BF1 so accessible and not frustrating. Nobody likes dying from an enemy they can't see, or having to squint while looking around the place. BF1 was great in that you always had a pretty good idea where the enemies were, and could then more easily identify them. There's a bit more frustration here that takes away from the fun.

    - The Planes SUCK.
Planes can’t spot, and they need to resupply bombs every time they make a run in BFV. You’ll miss your bombing run because you can’t spot, and then spend a

    - Bugs.
So many bugs at launch. Some times you get texture pop in, there are bugs in the UI, just a lot of little random stuff they'll be scrambling to fix in time for the big launch next week. Nothing game breaking though-- except my tank did get stuck in a house wall (happens in BF1 sometimes too). Feels pretty unpolished though and I would be SURPRISED if there are not a lot of bad/neutral reviews soon from real players complaining about the bugs.

    Pros:

    - Art Style and Graphics.
The game makes BF1 look like a PS3 game. In my opinion BF1 was the best looking shooter ever until this came out. The art style is so cool-- though it is a bit more colorful and like an "Advanced Wars" version of WW2 as opposed to the grittiness of the BF1 color palette. Overall really nice and fun to be in.

    - New Mechanics.
Lying on your back is cool. The fortifications? Super cool. They add such an element of strategy, and change the battlefield dynamics of choke points and where to expect enemies. I love attrition too (needing to resupply ammo and health). It forces you to slow down and think about what you’re going to do next, which makes the battlefield a lot more dynamic.

    - Destruction.
BF1 destruction was awesome, but sometimes you could “see the strings”. Here you can't tell at all, it looks and feels so realistic! Things break in unique ways every time, very immersive.

    - Game Modes.
I used to play COD only for TD and Domination— here every single mode is awesome and there are a lot of them. You need to try Frontlines. No throwaway crap like COD’s “Gridiron” game.

    Overall:
It simply feels like what I loved so much about COD MW, MW2, and World at War. Those were the heyday of online shooting games (for console), and it recaptures a lot of that magic for me with bigger maps and cover, now plus nice graphics and destruction! It’s the exact antithesis to “laser tag” shooters like the newer Call of Duty games that cater to “run and gun” simpletons. At this point it’s a rare type of game and the only kind like it on console. If you loved old school online shooters, you’ll find something to love here.

Amazing game but it is the most frustrating beginner experience that I've ever seen, the playerbase is so far-on that it feels near utterly hopeless quite a lot of the time. Highly immersive shooter with good hitboxes which makes CoD and Warzone seem like they aren't in real time. But the frustration develops more and more even though it is a good game

As my first battlefield game I really enjoyed. I was always into Cod but stopped since MW 2019 sbmm and bf5 went into ps plus and I tried it out and really liked it a lot. The campaign was not very good but I am really liking the multiplayer. It is really getting me excited for the next battlefield especially if it is a good game to the battlefield community because i know bf5 wasn't

The game has improved dramatically since BF1 and it has truly shown throughout this game, the weaponary, the vehicles and the characters spare a very good resemblance to previous Battlefield franchises such as Battlefield 1942. This game feels just like a remake of this and EA DICE has executed this perfectly. Although, this game feels great, a few technical problems may be holding this game back a little, unless EA DICE addresses this, I will give BattleField V a 8 out of 10 in my review of this game. Look we're all here for the multiplayer, and playing it in 2020 when team deathmatch has 19 fantastic maps, conquest is still reliably fun. This is far and above a more interesting and dynamic FPS than CoD. The campaign bits are fine but short and sweet, not really worth it. I'm pretty much rating this on the quality of the great multiplayer.

This game has came a long way in a year! The Pacific Theater has added a lot to this game for sure. When you have two teams playing fir the win this game really shines. Unfortunately you sometimes get in games were half your team sits back and snipes for kills or uses tanks planes in the same planes in the same manner. When it's played the way it's supposed to be played it's great!

A lot of changes happened, new maps, gameplay works smooth, full servers, easy to find games, still in my opinion one of the best Battlefield games. To play now with mouse and keyboard makes even more fun and reminds me of the old days in front of the PC. so I like it, gives me a lot of fun, BF at its best.

Bad Marketing release aside, this is actually a very good game. Combat feels skill based and not as grenade spammy as BF1.
Customisation is good and not over the top. Its a joy to pilot a Spitfire and roll over enemies in a Panzer tank. To all the people wanting to know where the USA/USSR/Japan are- they're probably coming in DLC's Keep your hats

I have played every battlefield since BC2, this would be my 2nd favourite behind BF3. I tend to look at a game firstly through the 'is it fun' aspect, this is a fun game to play, the core mechanics are very solid, the guns feel weighty, the movement is decent maybe slightly too easy to get stuck on small objects.

The single player mode is short but I enjoyed the French mission, does anyone buy BF games for the single player anyway?

The multiplayer is short of a few maps but they will be adding more through the tides of war service, which is free. I know some people are saying they should have delayed until March so more content would be available, but we live in a right now world.

I loved frontline from BF1 but to play it here you have to join an infantry focused server which rotates death match and domination, both not my cup of team.

The multiplayer game is well balanced in my opinion, with each class having its place, spotting has been drastically scaled back, so flanking is much improved, the game has a more skill based tactical feel to it over BF1, Planes and Tanks feel powerful but not overpowered, this may change as people rank up and get very good at them. Not once (yet) have I been killed and didn't deserve it in some way. The better player will do better in this game. Thankfully there is way less explosive spam in this game over BF1, well so far anyway.

Overall I am impressed with this game, the customisation is very in depth and the core mechanic are very good. Needs more maps and dedicated game type servers though.

I got into this game mainly because of Firestorm. But as I got the full I played through the other modes as well, Campaign and MP or as I like to call it, std. MP. I'm not that much of an MP guy and I mainly play TDM, so all I have to say about the std MP is that it is fun to me as I'm not really that much into it. About the Campaign, well, I saw a lot of complaints about cover art featuring a woman so I went to the Campaign expecting it would be a single story where I'd play as a woman in a WW II setting. Actually it's different from that. It is divided into 4 main stories which are independent of each otherand each featuring its own protagonist and guess, it's like only one of those stories, or rather war stories, feature a woman as a main character and the lady is actually convincing at least to me as a fighter. The Campaign is also a bit different from what I was accostumed, now it's like a little bit open world in some of the missions and you may use vehicles to traverse the area, and some of the missions themselves can be approached in more than one way which for me is a little bit of a sandbox added to it. Overall, an enjoyable Campaign, like for me that got it just for Firestorm and take that as almost like a bonus. Now slight spoilers, in one of those war stories you get to play as a Nazi, but as these stories seem to be based in reality you already know how it ends. But well, not sure which is worse , playing as a Nazi or play a game where Nazis have won WW II, your choice here. But the Nazi you get to play as is a rather good one. Now, before this ends up as a TLDR, if that hasn't already happened, let me finally talk just a little about Firestorm, the reason of me coming here.
They won me in the early videos featuring the Ring of Fire, I thought it was really cool, and felt like I had to play the game just for that, I didn't want to to just look on the web I wanted to see it for myself, and now I have seen it as this mode released a few hours ago. What I have to say about it is that it's stunning, it looks very convincing and blends really well with this type of game. Now , looking back at the other BR games out there if you compare the Ring of Fire with what I'd call the "unsafe" zones in the other games, they look to me as afterthoughts compared to the Ring of Fire. This is the best "unsafe" zone I've seen in a BR game to date. I'm still early hours with Firestorm but so far I'd say it delivered my expectations and it's worth it just for the Ring of Fire. I don't know about other places but in my region this game is currently on sale for half the price so you get Firestorm and as I like to say the std MP and the SP, so it's like a 3-in-1 package.
Now the only thing that might be like a downside to me so far is the water, like when you dive. And so, the inevitable comparison comes out this or Blackout? Well, the Collapse is not as strong as the Ring of Fire, but the water in Blackout just looks gorgeous. I'd even dare to say that it looks actually better than real water! And so, we come to the whole point of videogames, to deliver experiences that surpass those we can have in real life. Wow, that's deep, maybe even philosophical, I'm sounding like an inventive Dev, but let me tell you the truth, I'm no creative Dev, not even an indie one, I'm just a Modder, but a rather happy one as I always said long ago ... truly am :-)
So, I guess the choice between Firestorm and Blackout comes down to choosing water or fire ...

So there you have it, sorry for the TLDR text. And remember, the sale goes until tomorrow, enjoy the game.

Update: Now having played Firestorm a little bit more, but still not much, I have to say that the exterior of the Ring looks so Hellish like some people describe it and like Apocalypse that it wouldn't be like a place one would like to find him/herself in. However, interestingly, the visual, the look of the Firestorm is so appealing that I often find myself tempted to enter it even if it's like a quick peek. Truly tempting.

Update 2: Since the launch I've been doing nothing else but Firestorming. Today marks V Day since I started. From the text above I suppose it is apparent that my first impression of Firestorm was very good. And now, having spent more time with the game I'd like to add that I had a blast over the past week. I feel that I like the game more now than in launch day. Also, I think they bring new things to the already established BR formula. The most notable being the "massive" Firewall. Also nice are the destructible buildings and the artillery strikes. And there is more, but I won't details beyond that. Lastly, they extended the sale of this game, now it'll be live until next week (April 3rd, I think), so ... hurry! I want to keep playing it, but I probably go back to my backlog for now and try to divide my time between them. Nice game overall.

Now multiplayer, let's get down to the mode people actually buy this game for. Yes there are women, yes there are minorities (but not in the Axis unlike CoD WW2, but yeah sure DICE is evil revisionist history). Despite the massive marketing flubs that EA/DICE made this is the most fun I've had with a battlefield title in a while. The gunplay is smooth and we are getting plenty of new weapons, yes some of them made appearances in BF1 but they all feel different. I waiting to write this review until Tides of War started, there are some bug issues but DICE is doing an amazing job of communicating with the community about what they are doing and when to expect patches. As far as Tides of War goes it is fun, it gives you custom cosmetics, new weapons and outfits, dog tags, emblems and all sorts of stuff, it also gives you some interesting challenges that can help you broaden your play style. I paid $100 CAD for the deluxe, with the sale that's on now I say buy it! You are going to get a ton of game play out of the most solid shooter experience dice has put out in a while.

Live service - did it release with all intended content for the life of the game? No, instead we get a roadmap for content and we are looking at additional game modes, weapons, factions, locations and vehicles over the course of the games lifespan. DICE has done a great job of being engaging with the community and transparent in what we can expect and when we can expect it and it looks like this game is going to have a great future.

If you are offended that there are women and minorities, if that is what bothers you the most about this game, honestly the community right now is the best state I've seen a battlefield community in in a while (on PS4) and we're probably better off without you.

    CONCLUSION:

With all that being said, I've been hooked since day one, the gun play is awesome and addictive. Yes there are some glitches here and there, but nothing that has really hindered game play and a lot will be cleaned up with future patches. I feel like this game is getting unfairly rated as almost no one is taking into account that more guns, factions, maps and war stories will be released over the coming months and year as part of the game, that means there will be no split player base and you can put down the game for a period of time and come back to it with new content and challenges waiting. I'm not even going to comment on how stupid the "sjw" claims are, you're purchasing a mass marketed VIDEO GAME. Expand

Yes, it definitely is I’ve loved every minute of the 25+ hours I’ve put into the multiplayer. The multiplayer is a lot more tactical then Battlefield 1 and a little slower Paced as well, (but not to slow) a lot more destruction and more realistic destruction like pieces of building hanging when you blow a hole into the wall, or being able to shoot through the wall with high power weapons and hit someone on the other side. The new attrition system and faster time to kill makes it so everyone has to work together to assault a position, and I’ve noticed that teammates revive each other more often then previous titles, and work together more often. Vehicle combat is a lot of fun as well, if you are really good you can help turn a match around for your team, but you really have to watch for enemies because it’s a lot easier for them to take you out.

Is it perfect? unfortunately it isn’t, it has glitches some very minor some I’ve had to close and restart the game but nothing as bad as Battlefield 4’s launch. It also feels like we got less content with this Battlefield, and unfortunately we didn’t get all of the new interesting mechanics at launch like dragging a teammate when they are down, or the co-op mode, and firestorm but I don’t know about you, but I was going to put most of my time into multiplayer anyway. The single player campaign is actually the only thing that I find extremely disappointing, It’s to short and out of the 3 campaigns available, I only enjoyed 2 of them. Although the 2 I enjoyed were really interesting with some cool mechanics like the skiing mission, but unfortunately they where both to short which is really disappointing. Although we don’t play Battlefield games for the campaign so it’s not to big a deal and hopefully they will do more with tides of war.

Can/will it get better? With DICE track record I am 99% sure it will get better, what we have right now is still pretty dang great and most of the problems can be fixed, and the possibility of what they could do and what they already plan to implement it could end up being the best Battlefield game to date

Should I wait? It depends if your like me and love playing Battlefield and have been playing for years then it’s definitely worth getting it now it may not be perfect but it’s still a fun Battlefield game and if you’re new to Battlefield then you could probably wait a couple weeks or for a sale.

I’d also like to add please ignore the 0 reviews or really any of the really low negative reviews, a lot of those reviews are from people that clearly have not played the game, or are just plain trolls. so please don’t listen to them.

This game is genuinely the best Battlefield game I've played. It feels great, guns are fun, classes are fun, tanks aren't stupidly hard to kill, snipers can be dealt with - they have really improved pretty much every thing that was un-fun in previous Battlefields.

New nations, maps and game modes will be added later. The game will definitely be going strong for the next few years with content being added to keep it fresh.

Super brief comment on the campaign, yes it's short and no I didn't think it was that horrible. Now as far as multiplayer goes I feel that it is a really great installment. There are a lot of bugs but when there's that much coding and unique situations I kind of expect it as games get more and more complex. My initial review of the negative reviews of this game (after filtering out people that don't actually own the game and are just posting negativity) seem to be in one of two categories of hating, hate on the inclusion of other races and genders other than white men and hate on the "lack of outfits and weapons". I'm not going to get too far into the why does it matter if you can play as a woman, asian, or black person but I really don't think this that big of a deal. Also weapons have specialization trees that you can work through after leveling them to upgrade and customize the weapon itself so even though there are limited number of weapons you can specialize them which creates unique weapons for each player, which to me effectively offset the initial lack of weapons.

There are a decent number of maps and I like what they did with the weapon specializations creating a more customized play for each class. So far I see a lot of really upset people freaking out, hating, and bashing the franchise for including women, black people, and asians in the game play which is really... really.. REALLY.. concerning with regards to the status of our world in general. Moving on there's a lot of customization you can do for each person and you unlock outfits by performing well and progressing through the assignments. An example is medic, which is by far my highest leveled role at about 15, I now get additional medic assignments unlocked that give me new outfits and I can also choose the camo/color pattern for them so that's cool and makes them feel like there are more than there are, there's probably about 10 outfits consisting of pants, hat/helmet, and torso which then some have 5 or so color options. I don't think that there are really that many limited outfits between the color combos and the variety of outfits that seems like just as many as they've ever had initially.

The multiplayer system is essentially the same as almost every other battlefield but with new maps and setting/theme. I don't get why so many people are bashing the multiplayer when it has been just as fun as it always has been. I like that they made a lot of changes to the mechanics of the ballistics for the recon class as well, not going to spoil them you'll just have to figure it out. Overall I would say most people do not buy these games anymore for campaign mode(COD included which essentially has absolutely no campaign now) and just play it for multiplayer. I would give them an 8/10 for this and say it's worth it if you liked the already well established battlefield multiplayer experience.

I've been a Battlefield fan for several years and each release always has teething problems. The day someone releases a triple A title of this nature without any teething problems will never happen! The programmers are under immense pressure to get the product out there - I agree it shouldn't be like that but unfortunately that's the way it is! I get people being cheesed off but anyone who has previously invested time in a Battlefield game will know that Dice will be committed as they always have been to iron out any issues over the forthcoming weeks. As it currently stands the multiplayer (which is what I am there for) is intense, immersive and great fun! Graphically (I'm using a PS4 Pro) it is sublime! Sound is fantastic and on par with the quality of the graphics. The game is set up to encourage teamwork more than ever before. New maps and new modes will be added free of charge over time. Its not a 10 yet more a solid 8 but in the interests of overall balance I am giving this a 10. This is as far removed from a game deserving a zero than you can ever get - shame on you! Expand

    - Fantastic game modes (with more to come) - Grand Operations, where you play 3 separate battles over one game, is a wonderful addition.
    - Immersive, tasteful and atmospheric sounds and music
    - Fantastic gameplay - weapons feel really nice with only (at this point) minor need for some tweaks.
    - A commitment to deliver free, ongoing content that will add more to what is already a really good initial offering.

And really that's the main reason why I'm writing this review. I've never reviewed anything before in my life. Trust me, the game is worth buying because EA/DICE have come up with a really good model that should be rewarded. They've started this game with the battlefields of early WW2. This sees the British and Germans fighting over North Africa, Holland, Belgium etc. They're going to be constantly releasing content (maps and some game modes to come) that brings more and more content into the game, chronologically expanding with the theatres of the war. It's so disappointing that EA/DICE are being bashed over having female characters in a game at all. It's even more disappointing because this game is doing SO MANY THINGS that we as a community have been crying out for - no more paid DLC and community segmentation, pay for the game once and get continued content and support, new and fresh game modes etc... We need to be rewarding this as a community.

The game isn't perfect but no game is. The progression system could be better, for example. But it's FUN, it feels good and they're going to keep improving it. Historical accuracy? In a game series where a syringe cures all bullet wounds? It's a video game not a documentary, get a grip!

Having a lot of fun, I don't care about historical accuracy, it's a flipping video game to be played for entertainment value...not an educational video.

    Most unbalanced site ever;

All reviews are either based on pure hate or pure praise; people can't even define correctly anything these days

The game is a step up from previous Battlefields

    Whilst the story lacks in quality and even depth, the game marvels and astonishes in the multiplayer counterpart;

Try it, don't read it -- get a feel for the game, then judge yourself

Isn't it funny, how all the reviews complaining about a supposed "SJW" agenda are barely legible because of having the orthography and the grammar of a monkey? So ignore the 688 (at the time I'm writing this) reviews by Trump-voters, you'll risk getting dumber just by reading them.

This is a good game. Not perfect, full of bugs and missing some major participants in WW2. It's unfinished

This is a good game. Not perfect, full of bugs and missing some major participants in WW2. It's unfinished and releasing it in this state was a big mistake. But they'll fix the bugs, add the missing pieces and it might end up being the best WW2-shooter in a few months.

Battlefield 5 is a great game. There are many bugs but none are really are game changing, just visual. The maps are fun, and the graphics are amazing. The war stories campaign is also very enjoyable and provide a good story. My one big problem is the time of death and invisible enemies glitch but otherwise the game is very good.

Oh, the actual game is awesome, plus I've not encountered a single game-breaking bug. It does need more maps and guns, but I suspect that's that what the year's worth of FREE DLC is for.

A very interesting and beautiful game, and if they say it's similar to Battlefield 1, it's wrong because it's a different physics game...

The Gameplay is fun and I'm enjoying both multiplayer and singleplayer modes. The Developper reacted to critics appropriately and so far I'm satisfied, there are bugs yes, but I'm confident they will be fixed. Historical accuracy was never a thing that was promised and as you know our forefathers didn't run to different flags to defeat the Nazis, so I find the whole debate ridiculous. I really enjoyed the Last Tiger Mission, it was outstanding and nice to see the war from the german view. Microstransactions can only be used for cosmetics so it's everyone's own choice if he/she wants to buy a skin or not. Also one can't criticise BF5 for having them while enjoying other titles with the same System (OW, Anthem,Fortnite, Fifa,...). I think the ratings aren't quite as objective as they should be.
All in all a great game, also I'm happy you can play as a woman, makes the game also more interesting for female players.

There is no reason to call this game trash TBH, its like a reskin or BF1, but why is everyone complaining over a game that has been improved on, its hard to tell what a game is like on release, its much betternow

Honestly, the gameplay is really amazing! The single player is an immersing experience, you felt "war" in each mission. The multiplayer as a more tactical approach, which I enjoy! If you don't care about the social issues that EA brings in this game, you will like this game! It is really minimal in my opinion and you still feel the Battlefield experience in this new game. Why not gives it a try?

I love the game. The people harping on and on about "SJW's" and "politics in their game" are blowing things way out of proportion and turning a non issue into a cry-fest. Women are playable in the game. So what? It doesn't impact the gameplay whatsoever. I do not care at all if the game is historically accurate or not as long as it's fun. That said, I've had had as much fun playing BFV nowI love the game. Pros:
-Excellent detailed maps with great landscapes
    -Great gun and movement mechanics
-Advanced controller settings for more personalized controls
    -No lootboxes
    -No paid DLC
    -Great Framerate
    -Emphasis on squad cooperation
    -Weapons feel balanced

    Cons
-Currently pretty buggy with annoying bugs that affect ADS and squad spawning but most likely will be patched soon
-Tanks seem super slow and weak and tend to get taken down too easily by a single assault player
--There's women in the game and it's breaking my immersion. I'm going to go slit my wrists

The gunplay is razor sharp, tight and blazing fast without being a Adderall fueled twitch-fest like COD. I never realized how slushy the random deviation was in BF1 until things snapped-to again in BFV. Much more satisfying. The maps are gorgeous, complex and dynamic with destruction that goes beyond anything BF has seen before. The sound is sublime. I don't know how DICE's keeps outdoing themselves with their audio design...but they do. The overall sense of epic scope is here in spades....fighter planes overhead....armor crawling around on the ground....that fateful moment when you here the sputtering of the J2 rocket overhead and you just have to stop to pinpoint its location and, once you know its thankfully passing you buy, you watch it drop and crash someone else's party. Seeing/hearing those explosions never gets old.

Yeah, the UI overall is kind of ridiculous. And yeah, there's bugs....a lot of them. But nothing game-breaking. Overall impression is a great game with a few rough edges which I know will be ironed smooth as per DICE's history of polishing games until they run well. With that trajectory in mind, I can see this becoming...just maybe....the best BF game I've ever played.

Gameplay is king! BF5 is a bigtime step up from BF1 in terms of gameplay and is a must buy for any battlefield fan. Multiplayer games are fun and keep you engaged the entire match. The game is lacking on a bit of content, however the progression system is 100% better and definitely will keep you in it for the long haul. Tides of War will help bring the game some much needed additional content.

All the dlc will be completely free. This has been said to include all the major/popular conflicts, so you can expect to see D-Day etc, and the Americans/Japanese/Russians after launch.

The over the top customisation seen in the reveal trailer? All gone. Scrapped in favour of a more historically accurate uniform system, which all seems plausible to have existed at the time. This means

With that out the way, I will say the game is great. The graphics are superb, as is the gameplay, and really give off a sense of awe and dread. The moment you see a V1 rocket take out half your squad and send you flying across the ground, only for you to stumble to your feet and get back in the fight, your gun and uniform covered in mud. is one I will truly remember as one of my best gaming memories. The game captures the brutal reality of the war perfectly.

I don't understand the low reviews and it seems to me that it comes mainly from people that are just trying to spread bad rumors, hatred and point out only the bad stuff because the good stuff doesn't exist for them.

In many ways, Battlefield V feels like a big step backwards for the franchise. The campaign is boring and frustrating, multiplayer is unbalanced, and bugs keep popping up in every mode to ruin the experience. The fortification system is a good shakeup, but the good it brings is tempered by the cumbersome and murky Grand Operations. With some patches, balance changes and bug squashing, BFV could be a fantastic game, but at the moment, this soldier needs to go back to basic training.

Ripe with potential but riddled with problems, the new Battlefield will be brilliant six months from now. Right now, however, it’s merely a good shooter. [Issue#157, p.83]
