It's graphically uninspiring, absolutely hopeless as a single player experience (anyone telling you otherwise is either lying to you, or lying to themselves to justify their own poor decision to buy the game) and merely acceptable as multiplayer - but only insofar as being a Battlefield 4 DLC pack that's being charged at full price, because that is exactly what this is. It's the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon of the Battlefield series, but with about a tenth of the fun factor that title had.

On the plus side, it's not a completely broken mess upon release like BF4 was. So, yeah, there's that.

One word to sum up this title? Empty. A vacuous, void of a game with no charm, heart or soul whatsoever, pumped out so kids have a "new" game they can shoot guns in.

Single player is average but a great story. Multiplayer is some of the best MP in any Battlefield. Great maps, balanced with great new modes.

This is not a battlefield game, and please do not purchase thinking it is.

-The maps are horribly small (COD prob has bigger) -There are very few guns (roughly 5 per class) -The guns are boring and I find myself with a ton of leftover $ because theres nothing worth purchasing. -No rush, no squad gamemodes, no modes where you move through stages of the map. -Little to Zero

-Bad scoring (your +xp% applies to your score during the game, aka top spot will always be someone with a +200% bonus, these points were applied after the match in BF4, which, you know, makes sense.)
-Poor attempts at making the game last longer by making you purchase every item twice (once for each team).

The only thing I enjoyed about this game was the single player. Oh and another -1 rating because there was only roughly 5 hours of single player.

Overall I regret buying this game and wish i bought it physically so I could return it.

Battlefield players, avoid this at all cost.

The multiplayer is like a double-edged sword. On one side you got all the refreshing approach by having new game modes, features, and gadgets. On the other hand, you got limited weapons that takes way too long to earn, cops/crooks restricted weapons, OP armored vehicles, and terrible balancing issue on Hardcore mode. You actually take less damage when you are playing hardcore.

In conclusion, although this game is fun, I think it is the worst BF ever made

People giving this game a 1 or 0 are just upset, simple as that! They wanted this game free as DLC for BF4, grow up! This game is a solid 8 if not 9, good single player, very fun multiplayer it's fast, crazy and not at all serious. There's no tanks, jets etc. Just gun on gun goodness, with drive bys, new games modes. It's a good time!

I understand it is not a traditional Battlefield game in that the environment is not entirely destructible (more focus on the small set pieces) and the focus on vehicle combat has been greatly reduced. The game also moves at a much faster pace, with more punishing bullet damage and a stronger emphasis on quick, calculated combat. This is Visceral's love letter to CS and Payday, and they write it beautifully. All mechanics feel smooth and load times are FAST by comparison to other Battlefield entries (from end game to new spawn maybe 30 seconds). I personally had no server issues at all in my 5 hour play test span, which is a damn miracle in itself. The gun variety is there but not overwhelming, and you need money to purchase everything (or hope you get lucky when opening a Battle Pack), so making that next purchase has a weight to it similar to that found in Payday. All modes actually feel different rather than the typical Battlefield MO of using the same mechanic is a slightly larger (or smaller) setting. The 32-32 Team Deathmatch was a blast, as well as the signature Heist mode and the Counter Strike clone mode "Rescue". Vehicles are a little too cut and dry, and it almost feels like they are used almost exclusively for travel purposes. The driving mechanics are solid and very reminiscent of traditional Battlefield controls and responsiveness. Gun-play is solid, not much in terms of evolution on the new engine, which is probably my biggest gripe. The game is incredibly detailed and the level design is gorgeous, but there is a TON of empty space in many levels. With the focus moving to more of a fast paced, CQC style play and vehicles being put on the back-burner, it seems strange to force these mechanics to be useful with the addition of vast, empty landscapes. However, it detracts very little from the overall experience, and having Ted Nugent belting out the lyrics to Stranglehold while I siege a mansion from the front seat of a cop car is a priceless memory I will cherish for some time. 9/10, Visceral proves they can run with a good concept, and re-imagines the world of Battlefield with great success. As for the multiplayer, I will say it is the most fun i have had playing an FPS in a long time. I have played COD and Destiny and whatever but this is a nice change to the FPS list. Instead of people just sitting in tanks or jets and just picking people off while they spawn, Hardline only really gives you the vehicles available to cops and or robbers. The classes are well balanced and the money system where you can purchase guns, attachments and etc is just a great system and more games should use it. Bottom line, this game is a nice change from the usual FPS yearly crap we see, and anyone giving it anything less than an average score of 6 has not played it at all or enough. Expand

As a long-time Battlefield fan, I'm having a blast with Battlefield: Frontline and I don't understand the hate even by the gaming media. I know what a good Battlefield game is, and this one is excellent.

    To address some complaints;

    1) Some players are complaining that this should be DLC for BF4 because the assets are too similar to earlier games. Try to understand that in order for a game to fit in the Battlefield franchise, it needs to share certain aesthetic and gameplay similarities, otherwise it feels like a different game with franchise name slapped on it. If your issue is that it's not a drastically different experience from BF4, you may have some point because it's still a BF game and it has some of the same game modes like Conquest. Sorry, Conquest needs to be in every Battlefield game almost by tradition - it's expected.

    2) In the single player, some folks are complaining that the stealth gameplay feels a little silly because bad guys get taken down very easily just for flashing a badge. So, it may be somewhat true but I'll be darned if it's not a heck of a lot of fun. When you stop and think about it, it's identical to practically every game in the Metal Gear series. It's by design - in MGS, Snake does all of these same things and the guards act the same way (i.e; myopic guards, guards to give up searching for you after 60 seconds, etc.) It's not a problem in MGS but it is in Hardline? I don't think so.

The game plays very well and is a leap ahead in single player campaigns for the genre. Maybe next year, making a BF game so similar to BF4 and Hardline won't be acceptable anymore, but for right now it still works for me.

In addition, they tried to put Cops and Robbers into Battlefield, which could've been okay, but it's too mixed of a setting. The campaign can sometimes be SO confusing. Especially when they're putting in the Battlefield setting. The multiplayer is also lacking... quality. The re-spawn takes SO LONG, you clearly die too quickly, it's actually a little confusing, and customization isn't that good. I got Advanced Warfare earlier, which was MUCH better. Overall, not worth $70, for sure, but maybe $40. Quite the disappointment, especially since my receipt flew away on a windy day. :( Expand

The maps are a good mix, there are a few huge maps like what we are used to and there are also some smaller maps which brings a nice change gameplay wise as its action packed. Level progression I enjoyed much more with earning money and being able to spend it on whatever upgrades I like.

The only negative I can give this game is that it is not a massive step from BF4 gameplay wise, but with the new modes etc. it is much more worthy than dlc as some have suggested.

My views are based on multiplayer as I have not tried single player yet, although I have heard it is one of the best in the series to date.

Battlefield: Hardline fails to bring anything "new" to the table like Battlefield 4 or Bad Company did. That being said, Visceral Games did a great job with the online modes. Also, the story mode or "episodes" play like a modern crime T.V. show (ex. Justified, CSI) and even have the "next time on Hardline" and "previously on Hardline" dialogues.
I'll start with multiplayer because, let's face it, that's why most of us are buying it. You won't be flying jets or driving tanks in this entry... But you'll be able to race to the scene in a variety of police or criminal vehicles like: vans, patrol cars, and even heavily armored trucks with .50cals on top (or even have your team-mates shoot out the windows of your vehicle. Conquest (large or small) returns in Hardline but many new modes make the online feel fresh like:
-Hotwire where the criminals are trying to steal a bunch of cars while the police try and re-possess them.
-Heist is exactly what it sounds like, each team is trying to infiltrate and steal the cash for their team.
-Rescue is where police must infiltrate and save a hostage from the criminals but, there are no respawns, the action is intense in this mode.
-Blood Money A huge pile of loot has been intercepted in transit. The criminals are battling for the money to steal and bank it, while the police are there to secure it for evidence. You can also raid the enemy teams base and steal money.
-Crosshair a former criminal turned state’s witness is on the run from his former crew. The criminals are trying to erase the VIP’s face from the world, while the cops are trying to get him out safely.

I feel like BF does enough here to make it fresh and exciting. I like that you get money now when you get kills, assists and for completing objectives to spend on whatever you like. The multiplayer works on launch which obviously, did not happen with Battlefield 4. Team-work is also a great idea in some of these modes especially rescue!

Single player: I feel like single player is one of the best BF has produced since Bad Company. The characters are all very well written and, like I said before, plays like a T.V. series making you wonder what will happen next. I also like how you can play however you like, stealth or guns blazing. Although, guns blazing isn't the best idea because you die much faster in this iteration. Something I didn't like is unlocks don't cater to both ways of playing the game (stealth or guns blazing), you are rewarded more for being silent and making arrests. It's also very cool how you can seek out evidence into cases and complete them, unlocking new weaponry and XP leading to leveling up and eventually get battlepacks.
Overall though, the game isn't worth buying just for the SP. I still very much enjoyed it though.
If you're a fan of Battlefield, pick this up. It's a great game to sink hours into and have a good time in single-player as well. It still feels like a lot like BF4 though and that's a bit of a drawback for me (having played 350 hours in BF4). I know I'll get dislikes for giving this a positive review but, it's just my opinion.

    Pros:
    + Fresh new multiplayer modes
    + Enjoyable single player
    + Stable servers

    Cons:
    - Graphics have not changed
    - Feels lots like BF4
    - Flashing your badge freezes enemies in their tracks for laughable arrests

    Overall: 7.5/10

In essence nothing that would clue you into the fact that this is a battlefield game. If you did not know the title of the game you would assume it was a poor CoD imitation with vehicles thrown in.

Leveling system feels very unrewarding and bugs are already appearing.

The campaign while intriguing is far too short to make up for the glaring oversights of the Multi-player.

In the end Hardline is nothing but a glorified DLC for Battlefield 4 but doesn't have any of the things that make Battlefield 4 great. A blatant money grab by EA hoping that uninformed gamers will buy it on name alone rather than do their research first.

With much better games like Bloodborne on the way and much better value for the same price like The Handsome Collection I would strongly recommend that everyone hold off and if you must have it I would wait until you can buy it used or on sale.

Very comical game, with references to memes and what not. There's just something about driving your partner around beside vehicles at high speeds, while he pops his head out the window and takes out other drivers. Or gunning down enemies from a helicopter. Or drilling your way into a vault, to then take away the cash to a drop off point while your squadmates protect you. The new game modes are great additions. The graphics are solid as well, maybe not The Order: 1886 quality, but still impressive. The level up system is well balanced. Disregard many of these reviews with "0", because it doesn't make sense to rate a game that bad, it would basically be a non-existent game. I've snapped onto a server within a couple seconds of trying every time....and have seen little to no significant lag/rubber banding since logging on. I have been disconnected from a single. We'll see how this evening plays out, but if things to continue to remain stable....I'm a happy gamer :) Expand

Great game for Battlefield fans and a nice change of pace. "Some" of the Maps are a little bland but they suite the new game types well. Besides, there will surely be more maps to come. BTW, half the bad reviewers on this game are trolls. Look at their accounts DarthPadme has given every game he has reviewed a 1 or 0! Same goes for a lot of these reviewers. losers.

Although I was played a lot of Battlefield 4, it had... issues.

Hardline seems to have fixed most of those problems in multiplayer.

I've been having fun with single player too.

I don't really understand how anybody could give it a zero - they can't really have played it.

Great game! Love the new take on Battlefield. The new game modes are a lot of fun and will add the the replay value. Much more stable launch than BF4. Some minor glitches, but overall a very stable first day. I was so surprised how much fun I had. I am so excited for more maps. The single player mode is really cool and adds to the fun for such a great game.

Superficially it might look like a reskin, but Battlefield Hardline is no cop out. [May 2015, p71]

There's genuine long-term fun to be had in multiplayer modes, but it's not consistent. [June 2015, p.66]

Its new modes offer a lot, but certain elements feel marginalised. [May 2015, p.89]
