However with the atrocious weapon balance and the poor net code sometimes multiplayer can be extremely frustrating. I've experienced plenty of kill trades which are amplified by the fact that the guns hits you very hard. TDM is a mess with the poor spawn system and it's extremely luck based, depending on whether you see your opponent first or vice versa.
To conclude, you might want to get this game on sale if you have some spare cash but you should still stay in battlefield 4 if you have it. Remember this is visceral's first game in the battlefield franchise and give them another chance.

Just like Destiny (its not ashy unlike BF Hardline), the beta is the game, same graphics from the beta but more maps and weapons, Battlefield is not about Cops vs Criminals, and this should've been a BF4 DLC instead of a $60 game to be honest.

You have points on each level where you can change your loadout, the same way you could in any battlefield game between spawns. Most instances, you have to sneak around the same way you did in Hitman except you can spray and pray at any moment. You will die quickly if you don't use cover. But take down all the bad guys with a shotgun and tazer the guy you need to arrest. Not bad. Also, you look around the rooms for clues to unlock more loadout options.

NOTE: They should've skipped the driving portion, it doesn't feel like it belongs in the game. I'm happy Battlefieldi didn't go with another skin of its previous games.

To start with, the single player campaign is ridiculous. The story makes no sense and the writing is on par with cop shows that last half a season. Terrible writing. The action is a bit better and compels the game onward, although it's just a reskinned BF4. It's a military shooter with a cop theme, it doesnt really work all the time. Flashing your badge after you've been kicked off the force? Doesn't really make sense...

The multiplayer however makes this a decent ride. New modes like hotwire and hostage rescue absolutely kick ass. It's addictive fun. I can't help but feel that this is a much more scaled down version of battlefields past, though. Each class has between 3-5 weapons to choose from compared to dozens from games past. The action has been much sped up and things move at a COD style pace. Deaths come quick in this one.

Overall, I come to BF for a more methodical, slowed down shooter. Not the frantic mayhem of COD. I feel let down by this entry and hope that they return to form on their next entry.

The biggest disappointment of this cops and robbers game is that it has very little cops and robbers. You never knock down doors and toss flash bangs. You never ambush crooks. You can forget about questioning anyone. There is very little actual police work in this game. Instead, you take out enemies stealthily like Metal Gear Solid or gun them down like any other Battlefield game. At one point, the game goes completely off the rails and you drive around a tank taking out helicopter gunships.

Some effort was put into this game. You have gorgeous character models that probably put competing games to shame in early 2015. Back then, most games released for Xbox 360 and PS3 looked very much last gen on the current gen consoles. Not this one. Cut scenes in Hardline are also well done and show an overconfidence in the actual gameplay. Weapons are straight up Battlefield weapons except cops get Tasers. The maps and areas are nicely done, with a few set pieces that are worthy of a Call of Duty. Ugh, imagine Call of Duty: Cops. That's really what this game is, complete with moments where the player character is knocked unconscious by explosions.

I cannot stress enough how much this game is a missed opportunity. Or maybe cops really do crouch walk around gang hideouts methodically taking out enemies with stealth attacks and disabling alarms. Perhaps my whole notion of police work is a lie.

In regards to multi-player, I can report that it exists and people are still playing it. I matched into a game within a minute and spawned into the gun turret of an armored vehicle for a few cheap kills. Then I spawned in the middle of a firefight and was killed by an unseen enemy wielding an assault rifle. Welcome to the Battlefield soldier. I honestly cannot understand why anyone would play Hardline when they could play Battlefield 4. Both were sold for $5 during the same PSN sale (which is how I picked up Hardline) and yet only one is a real Battlefield game.

One final note. The menu music is Godawful terrible and you have to hear it while matchmaking. Why EA, why?!?

In addition, they tried to put Cops and Robbers into Battlefield, which could've been okay, but it's too mixed of a setting. The campaign can sometimes be SO confusing. Especially when they're putting in the Battlefield setting. The multiplayer is also lacking... quality. This isn't a bad game. BUT. there just isn't enough to justify the 60$ price. The campaign is just painfully average. There are fewer game modes, and guns, which is the biggest problem with this game, there isn't enough. Overall, if this game was a dlc for under $25 I would say pick it up, but since its not, don't buy it, but when the price drops to under 30 to 25 dollars, I'd say pick it up.

This isn’t a bad thing in itself as the story is not bad, but at the same time it doesn’t feel special or surprising at all, you’ll feel you’ve seen this before several times.

Graphically speaking the game is all right, kind of at the same level you would expect from any battlefield game, maybe a bit worse. Artistically speaking, again it is very average, venues aren’t anything surprising at all which again compares negatively to other battlefield games. Sound and voice acting is top notch.

Gameplay, it’s a classic FPS in the stricter meaning of the word, there isn’t any surprising mechanics at all here, nothing new, just classic shooting without any interesting or novel cover mechanics or anything. Maybe with the exception of a mechanic that allows you to arrest people rather than just killing them, but it’s nothing special. It is worth commenting that you get both action oriented missions and stealthier ones, but again nothing new under the sun.

Summarising, this is a very average game, there are much more interesting FPS games out there if you’re looking for a good single player campaign. If you can get it really cheap, you’ll still enjoy it, but I wouldn’t pay a lot for this as it’s nothing special really. Again, I insist I am not taking into account the multiplayer element here, I got no idea how good it is in terms of multiplayer, probably quite fun, but read some other reviews to find out.

Head shots from 1000 yards with a sub machine gun and iron sights?? No problem at all! Not only are head shots routinely carried out by every assortment of weapon as you are in a car or pretty much anywhere else, but you will also find that you are constantly shot down by someone whom you put half a clip in just to see them with 100% health after you die. Dont even get me started about how lousy the vehicles control and how badly they glitch when bumping each other. This game has really ruined it for me. Trust me when I say if you are buying this game because you enjoy the thrill of a good "even ground" hunt you are completely screwed. Buy this game if you enjoy aiming in the general vicinity of someone and letting the computer take over for you. Just give it a slight bump upwards for automatic head shots every time. Not to mention inconsistent bullet damage. 3 shots from certain rifles into someones head routinely led to them turning around and killing me with 1 or 2 shots to the chest from a pistol. I am actually a police officer so I was excited to hear how good the story was supposed to be...wow letdown number 50. The "pop your badge out and everyone drops their guns" was amusing at first. Driving in a vehicle that is supposed to be going close to 100 miles an hour while looking out the window things are going by you at closer to 20 mph was a huge let down as well. All and all thank God borderlands and bloodborne are coming out in a few days. This game really is crap Expand

It's graphically uninspiring, absolutely hopeless as a single player experience (anyone telling you otherwise is either lying to you, or lying to themselves to justify their own poor decision to buy the game) and merely acceptable as multiplayer - but only insofar as being a Battlefield 4 DLC pack that's being charged at full price, because that is exactly what this is. It's the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon of the Battlefield series, but with about a tenth of the fun factor that title had.

On the plus side, it's not a completely broken mess upon release like BF4 was. So, yeah, there's that.

One word to sum up this title? Empty. A vacuous, void of a game with no charm, heart or soul whatsoever, pumped out so kids have a "new" game they can shoot guns in.

Just play heist mode and drive a car around... and around...and around till you get 60k+ dollars in a match and then buy the best gun for said class.

Then go to Team Death match thats stuck at a 64 player server only cap on really tiny... tiny maps where you will be shot in the back of the head upon spawning! so if you are lucky to spawn and kill someone in front of you before you die, your doing good! you do this over and over to get weapon unlocks. After your weapons and mods are done.. game is boring as shi*t.

Literally a dumb down version of battlefield 4. I can see them adding more stuff since they did charge us a $60.00 price tag, but nope.. literally like 6 maps total and they took away like 80 percent of the gadgets and about 50 percent of the vehicles.

I highly recommend people just sticking to BF4 unless you just have to play cops or robbers.

The single player i have to say is very very good, a welcome change to what is usually something that's just stuck on last minute nowadays in a multiplayer centric genre but single player is nowhere near long enough to save this game and make it a recommendable purchase,

But I'm not sure if this was just growing pains for Dice trying to get a decent campaigh into the game but its the best effort to date in terms of single player, its worth a once over no need to go back,

however the MP has been cut in half and i don't just mean in map size, i mean in every sense of the world

    less maps
    less weapons
    less vehicles
    less point

the game launched almost perfectly with no server issues no game crashes no issues there but my god how can they charge you what they are charging especial in the UK and Europe for HALF THE GAME of battlefield 4, we need to wake up and stop paying for this because we are telling them it's OK to do this every time we spend that kinda money on chopped up games like this they are getting the message its ok to do it,

if the game didn't function properly i would have given it a 4 but it does and that is its only saving grace on a mechanical level its the smoothest launch since bf2 but there is nothing here to keep you going nothing to work towards, reward rates on hot wire are so high you can just drive around a map unlock most the stuff you need and happy days you win, nothing to see here move along until the next dlc pack is out which is still only going to consist of 4 maps and if your lucky you might get weapons

This is a game that will inevitably let down anyone that isn't a Battlefield hard fan.

The story is really sketchy. It. doesn't propose anything interesting for the players to immerse into. The characters are unreliable. The game montage looks oddly like CSI (I can not say how much of a bad thing this is). The music is alright, although it seems like hip-hop is automatic with criminals.

A sniper will kill in 4-5 shots and a handgun will instakill you... It's frustrating and unpleasant. Not recommended.

"But I don't buy Battlefield for the singleplayer, I buy it for the multiplayer" Well, fair enough, but the multiplayer is also an absolute disaster. Buggy, and extremely few weapons to choose from. Very bad modes, and even worse maps that weren't even designed for these modes. This multiplayer is just a dumbed down with a diamond sledgehammer version of BF4. Oh yeah, and there is barely even any levolution. The fact that DICE claims to have developed the multiplayer makes me sick to my stomach, because DICE was extremely lazy or just dropped the ball completely with this. However, the sound design in this game is still exemplary, showing every FPS developer how to create authentic sound design. Overall, Battlefield Hardline is a very poor effort from both Visceral and DICE, and a very average experience. Get BF4, or get BF1, and play those, but do NOT buy this game. Expand

I'm not great at shooters, but when I get killed, i would like to see what I did wrong. In this game, there is no such thing. You get killed, but half the time, u don't know why. The killcam in this game is one of the worst i've experienced in years. I don't care what a player does after he killed me, I want to know how he killed me. The multiplayer maps are nothing special, they are not bad, but not great either. In some cases, half of the map is never used, as players stick to the same area, making some parts of the maps useless. Luckily there are vehicles to quickly skip the empty parts and the spawing in a teammates location helps. I seem to have a hard time spotting other players from a distance. In my opinion there are not a lot of game modes and some of these game modes, just look the same. The graphics are good, but I would have expected a bit more from this title. I've seen a lot better on the PS4. I would suggest that people buy the game when the price goes down a bit, because the game feels overpriced for the content it gives atm. Keep in mind that this review is a personal opinion, maybe you will like the game and give it 10/10 but for me, this one is going to be traded in for something better. Expand

The multiplayer wasn't anything to write home about, and there is a crucial bug in one of the story mission which makes you restart the level, which kinda ruins the experience.

Seriously, one house had a fireplace basically in every room (obviously not a tree hugger). This part of the development really impressed me, as did the voice acting, even if the lines were cheesier than a Pizza Hut stuffed crust.

It’s unfortunate that my excitement for Hardline was crushed.
I was really expecting something, well… good. Visceral’s take on Cops and Robbers is brilliant in multiplayer (check out our MP review here), but this is a review on the campaign, and the campaign stinks. But who buys Battlefield for the campaign you fanboys ask? Me, because I really wanted a decent Cops and Robbers themed game. Instead I was let down, just like when Peter Griffin took the mystery box. He’s right, it could have been anything, but Visceral failed to create much of anything.

YES, it did have grappling hooks and ziplines and cool gadgets, but in all out warfare it isn't viable or often used (at least in my experience). If it had R6 Siege style gameplay with smaller maps and more objective style gameplay, it might have been cool to use the gadgets.

Hotwire was really the only good mode but you could easily cheese a boring victory by driving around the map if the enemy team didn't know they signed up for mobile conquest.
I didn't mind the single player, but it wasn't anything exciting. I only remember the main character's name because he has the same name as my brother.

Complete reskin of bf4. The single player is only interesting if you have never seen any cop drama show or movie in your life. So many cliché's and outrageous scenarios like it was blessed by Michael Bay. This is not Call Of Duty, it should not feel like I'm playing it. None of these scenarios should even be in this game considering you are a cop.

Now onto the multiplayer; it has a variety of maps and locations, but that's where the positives start and end. No more levelution (besides a sandstorm and a crane) no destruction of buildings, 4 guns per class, per faction (cops or criminals) and a stupid way of using a cop gun as a criminal or vice versa. In order to do this you have to get 2,500 kills with the weapon. It has bad character models with cookie cutter criminal voice acting and models. Compare this game and all of the content to Battlefield 4 and you will see that this is just a shell of a game, built to cash in on the Battlefield name, and to put icing on the cake, create another platform to sell mindless drones Battlepacks.

    Final Verdicts:
Graphics: 5/10 for consoles, runs at 720p on xb1 and 920p on ps4. Why?
Voice Acting: 9/10 Clichés aside, the voice acting is very well done
Multiplayer: 4/10 It is a shell of what Battlefield is supposed to be. There is no content, less than 50% of the content in Battlefield 4.
Value: Definitely not worth $60 or even $50. Its pushing its worth at $40.

First off I'll start this review by saying I'm a battlefield fan . I put in a couple hundred hours on battlefield 4 and loved every minute of it ( when it worked ) . This is battlefield alright . Battlefield for folks with ADD . Yes the single player is better than that of titles past . This however isn't saying much . Video Games are governed by a ratings system . This is battlefield alright . Battlefield for folks with ADD . Yes the single player is better than that of titles past . This however isn't saying much . Video Games are governed by a ratings system . The level of violence pretty much guarantees this game a mature rating . That being said knowing the game will be played by an older audience do they make a hard boiled in your face "cop drama " as was billed ?.

Nope the developers and their crack ( or cracked out team of writers ?) go the network television safe route and manage to make the crappy writing seen on those shows seem like Pulitzer prize winning stuff compared to the consulted asinine crap you'll be exposed to here . Video games have far more lenient standards than tv does . They could have made this truly special . Instead they made a steaming pile of cow dung .

Everybody knows battlefield games are known for their multiplayer . Fear not though as visceral has managed to screw that up as well . Remember how in BF4 , if someone was playing junior bird man all you had to do was get a stinger and shoot them down ?. Someone there made the excellent decision to keep aircraft in the game but give you nothing to neutralize them with . Now that is stellar game design . Remember the tanks in bf4 ?. Remember how you had mines and at launchers to neutralize the threat?. Don't worry because visceral has replaced them with " command vehicles " . To destroy them all you have to do is run up to them and place a breaching charge on them . All while you're getting lit up the whole time trying to approach the damn thing . You could take cover if there was cover present and the levels weren't as barren as the saharra .

Now let's talk hit detection . I have been playing shooters many years. Without aim assist and my accuracy usually is in the 40 percentile range . This is the first game I've ever used a shotgun that should tell you what you need to know .

If you have battlefield 4 that game is running perfectly at the moment I suggest you keep playing that . The greatest thing about battlefield games ? . Destructible environments . Remember people camping structures ?. How would you handle that ?. Usually by anti tank weapons and c4 turning the building to rubble right ?. Well visceral in their infinite wisdom decided to remove those options from you as well . It's okay though cuz look bullets make holes in things !!!! Gee I'm impressed .

This game is complete garbage and it plays like it . Any user giving this game high marks is on their daily 800 milligrams of adderall . This is complete garbage and very much a cash grab dressed up as reviloutionary gameplay changes in the single player .

On a completely separate subject . Let's talk about all bleeding heart professional reviewers saying this game is making a statement about police in this country . That Is crap this game played it safe and made no statement at all . I live in one of the most violent cities in America and am a police officer . If you want to know what it's like or think we are all out to hurt people , I invite you to wear the star . Just for a day you have no idea . For the police haters out there next time you're in trouble call a crackhead .

This is not battlefield and I will not let visceral disparage the name of this great series . This game belongs in a bargain bin or better yet should have never seen the light of day . I'd rather shoot myself in the face with a large caliber handgun than play this tripe ever again .

It kills the atmosphere and just doesn't look like a modern game.

Gameplay wise this is just OK. Not incredible or innovative. It feels more like CS or CoD than Battlefield, big time. That Battlefield feel is barely there. I understand this is a spin-off, but it doesn't have that epic all-out war feel. It just feels like very quick skirmishes between police and robbers. There is a ton of camping, too.... a ton. People just wait by a road with an RPG in Hotwire and they get instakills way too easily. Netcode problems are still rampant: I had 4 trades in my first hour of play and I died behind cover twice, as well. Vehicle physics improved by about 3%--yeah, hardly anything, really. Vehicle movement and physics are still unrealistic and poor.

Campaign isn't too bad. The story is very cliche, but it's occasionally funny. Visuals still suffer in campaign.

Hardline brings some new things to the table (modes, etc), but overall it lacks a Battlefield-feel and a comprehensive sense of quality and care. I'm not sure this is Visceral's cup of tea.

-Bad scoring (your +xp% applies to your score during the game, aka top spot will always be someone with a +200% bonus, these points were applied after the match in BF4, which, you know, makes sense.)
-Poor attempts at making the game last longer by making you purchase every item twice (once for each team).

The only thing I enjoyed about this game was the single player. Oh and another -1 rating because there was only roughly 5 hours of single player.

The multiplayer game is what holds the game to the Battlefield line, and continuing the trend from BC2 BF3 and BF4: Hardline is successfully the worst. For no reason at all, the same experience unlocking progression and class system are back. The secondary weapons are now locked by class rather than available throughout all classes.
The worse thing yet is the new weapon progression. Money is given like points, which is then used to purchase weapons and upgrades after they have been unlocked by experience. Although the money is pooled, the unlocks are completely separate. The progression per side is separate as well, creating an imbalance of power as one side gets access to specific weapons before the other. Knowing that on the 'police' side a player can get their favorite SMG, but the 'criminals' side has the best assault rifle, then being forced to choose between the two because the player doesn't have the money for both, just seems ludicrous.
It seems like EA didn't learn anything from the maps its players didn't enjoy on BF4. Returning elevators, more predictable spawning, and even smaller choke-points make the fast and camping players even more annoying than ever. Vehicles are also more annoying, as the helicopters have taken a step backward in stability, while some anti-vehicle weapons must now be found on map (which can then be camped).
Overall, this is another in a line of downhill replications that force longer grinding out of less content, all put in with a pretty picture. This game may end up being the last Battlefield title I ever buy.

The enemies field of view is bizarre. You can literally walk side by side an enemy and they don't notice you. At other times, I would get shot and killed even though I was out of the field of view. I couldn't get invested in the storyline as it felt so contrived and dull. The shooting is sometimes a welcome break from stealth, but it feels soul less and boring compared to others in the franchise. It's strange, the other games are highly regarded, I can't help feel that this game was made by a bunch of kids on work experience. It's such poor quality, for a big budget AAA title. I would go as far to say I hated this experience, I only felt compelled to play it through because I spent £10 on the damn thing. Give it a miss.
