Battlefield: Hardline fails to bring anything "new" to the table like Battlefield 4 or Bad Company did. That being said, Visceral Games did a great job with the online modes. Also, the story mode or "episodes" play like a modern crime T.V. show (ex. Justified, CSI) and even have the "next time on Hardline" and "previously on Hardline" dialogues.

Also, the story mode or "episodes" play like a modern crime T.V. show (ex. Justified, CSI) and even have the "next time on Hardline" and "previously on Hardline" dialogues.
I'll start with multiplayer because, let's face it, that's why most of us are buying it. You won't be flying jets or driving tanks in this entry... But you'll be able to race to the scene in a variety of police or criminal vehicles like: vans, patrol cars, and even heavily armored trucks with .50cals on top (or even have your team-mates shoot out the windows of your vehicle. Conquest (large or small) returns in Hardline but many new modes make the online feel fresh like:
-Hotwire where the criminals are trying to steal a bunch of cars while the police try and re-possess them.
-Heist is exactly what it sounds like, each team is trying to infiltrate and steal the cash for their team.
-Rescue is where police must infiltrate and save a hostage from the criminals but, there are no respawns, the action is intense in this mode.
-Blood Money A huge pile of loot has been intercepted in transit. The criminals are battling for the money to steal and bank it, while the police are there to secure it for evidence. You can also raid the enemy teams base and steal money.
-Crosshair a former criminal turned state’s witness is on the run from his former crew. The criminals are trying to erase the VIP’s face from the world, while the cops are trying to get him out safely.

I feel like BF does enough here to make it fresh and exciting. I like that you get money now when you get kills, assists and for completing objectives to spend on whatever you like. The multiplayer works on launch which obviously, did not happen with Battlefield 4. Team-work is also a great idea in some of these modes especially rescue!

Single player: I feel like single player is one of the best BF has produced since Bad Company. The characters are all very well written and, like I said before, plays like a T.V. series making you wonder what will happen next. I also like how you can play however you like, stealth or guns blazing. Although, guns blazing isn't the best idea because you die much faster in this iteration. Something I didn't like is unlocks don't cater to both ways of playing the game (stealth or guns blazing), you are rewarded more for being silent and making arrests. It's also very cool how you can seek out evidence into cases and complete them, unlocking new weaponry and XP leading to leveling up and eventually get battlepacks.
Overall though, the game isn't worth buying just for the SP. I still very much enjoyed it though.
If you're a fan of Battlefield, pick this up. It's a great game to sink hours into and have a good time in single-player as well. It still feels like a lot like BF4 though and that's a bit of a drawback for me (having played 350 hours in BF4). I know I'll get dislikes for giving this a positive review but, it's just my opinion.

    Pros:
    + Fresh new multiplayer modes
    + Enjoyable single player
    + Stable servers

    Cons:
    - Graphics have not changed
    - Feels lots like BF4
    - Flashing your badge freezes enemies in their tracks for laughable arrests

    Overall: 7.5/10

Battlefield Hardline brings an interesting new approach to the Battlefield franchise. Overall the campaign is a short fun experience layed out like a cop drama but still work to do to get a truely gripping drama.
As for multiplayer its hard to go from battlefield 4's large open maps with tanks and jets to suv's and bank vaults. The new game modes are nothing to get too ecited about, a quick look at the server list reveals the most popular modes to be the returning modes conquest and team deathmatch! The way you buy weapons with cash earned in game is interesting but their are hardly any guns to buy. Experimenting with other classes is also fustrating due to the fact that the operator (assault/medic) is pretty much the best and most important guy with the combination of health packs and assault rifles. Overall the multiplayer is nothing special and i honsetly cant see it having any legs in the long run, my reccomendation is battlefield 4s multiplayer with the dlc.
In conclusion Its an intersting prospect but lack of attention to detail on what cops and robbers actually would act like lets this game down. However its still battlefield and newcomers and veterans could appreciate the change in asthetic and theme.

Taken as a standalone game its pretty enjoyable but I can see why theres a backlash when you compare it to other games in the series. The multiplayer doesnt really give the sense of being in an epic large scale battle the way previous entries did. There are positives though. I fully expect Hotwire to be a staple game mode in the series from now on because its a ton of fun, the heists are great too . Lastly the campaign is usually considered an afterthought in BF games but FWIW Hardlines is one of the better ones in the series.

Overall, its not as good as the last few games but theres still enough of the old Battlefield there for fans to get plenty of enjoyment out of it.

Not quite sure why a lot of people hated on this title. I thought the story was by far the best of all Battlefield titles. Multiplayer on the other hand is another story. Battlefield has never figured it out. New game mode is far to fast. All in all I would recommend this title.

This game has a very fun multiplayer component. But loses points for the AWFUL campaign. The campaign in this game was so boring, I had trouble finishing it. If you buy this game. Do not play the campaign. However, multiplayer is great. Having a lot of fun with it.

You have points on each level where you can change your loadout, the same way you could in any battlefield game between spawns. Most instances, you have to sneak around the same way you did in Hitman except you can spray and pray at any moment. You will die quickly if you don't use cover. But take down all the bad guys with a shotgun and tazer the guy you need to arrest. Not bad. Also, you look around the rooms for clues to unlock more loadout options.

NOTE: They should've skipped the driving portion, it doesn't feel like it belongs in the game. I'm happy Battlefieldi didn't go with another skin of its previous games.

This isn't a bad game. BUT. there just isn't enough to justify the 60$ price. The campaign is just painfully average. There are fewer game modes, and guns, which is the biggest problem with this game, there isn't enough. Overall, if this game was a dlc for under $25 I would say pick it up, but since its not, don't buy it, but when the price drops to under 30 to 25 dollars, I'd say pick it up.

However with the atrocious weapon balance and the poor net code sometimes multiplayer can be extremely frustrating. I've experienced plenty of kill trades which are amplified by the fact that the guns hits you very hard. TDM is a mess with the poor spawn system and it's extremely luck based, depending on whether you see your opponent first or vice versa.
To conclude, you might want to get this game on sale if you have some spare cash but you should still stay in battlefield 4 if you have it. Remember this is visceral's first game in the battlefield franchise and give them another chance.

i'm going to put this simply. If you have Battlefield 4, you don't need this game. If you have never played a battlefield game, then this is for you. I think this is a game meant to attract all the worn out COD fanboys and try to bring them onto Battlefields side, and that's just fine for me. Its a decent game, but if you excuse me, im gonna go back to playing battlefield 4.

I’ll summarise this as a very average FPS shooter in terms of the campaign. Story is not bad; it is basically very similar to the typical Hollywood cops-drugs-crime kind of movie. This isn’t a bad thing in itself as the story is not bad, but at the same time it doesn’t feel special or surprising at all, you’ll feel you’ve seen this before several times.

Graphically speaking the game is all right, kind of at the same level you would expect from any battlefield game, maybe a bit worse. Artistically speaking, again it is very average, venues aren’t anything surprising at all which again compares negatively to other battlefield games. Sound and voice acting is top notch.

Gameplay, it’s a classic FPS in the stricter meaning of the word, there isn’t any surprising mechanics at all here, nothing new, just classic shooting without any interesting or novel cover mechanics or anything. Maybe with the exception of a mechanic that allows you to arrest people rather than just killing them, but it’s nothing special. It is worth commenting that you get both action oriented missions and stealthier ones, but again nothing new under the sun.

Summarising, this is a very average game, there are much more interesting FPS games out there if you’re looking for a good single player campaign. If you can get it really cheap, you’ll still enjoy it, but I wouldn’t pay a lot for this as it’s nothing special really. Again, I insist I am not taking into account the multiplayer element here, I got no idea how good it is in terms of multiplayer, probably quite fun, but read some other reviews to find out.

But I'm not sure if this was just growing pains for Dice trying to get a decent campaigh into the game but its the best effort to date in terms of single player, its worth a once over no need to go back,

however the MP has been cut in half and i don't just mean in map size, i mean in every sense of the world

    less maps
    less weapons
    less vehicles
    less point

the game launched almost perfectly with no server issues no game crashes no issues there but my god how can they charge you what they are charging especial in the UK and Europe for HALF THE GAME of battlefield 4, we need to wake up and stop paying for this because we are telling them it's OK to do this every time we spend that kinda money on chopped up games like this they are getting the message its ok to do it,

if the game didn't function properly i would have given it a 4 but it does and that is its only saving grace on a mechanical level its the smoothest launch since bf2 but there is nothing here to keep you going nothing to work towards, reward rates on hot wire are so high you can just drive around a map unlock most the stuff you need and happy days you win, nothing to see here move along until the next dlc pack is out which is still only going to consist of 4 maps and if your lucky you might get weapons

I'm disappointed in you EA and you Dice, you let your fans down big this time,
yes your game works, but its only half the game we deserve

If it went out before half of year, it was better, thought beta you could try this game and full game didn't bring to many things to suprise, now game feels like dlc more likely, than full game.
What about premium, i am not sure i will buy it, maybe for lower price later, because it really doesn't change gameplay and couple new maps get bored, after few hours.
Netcode is better, but still not good, dying behind walls is still here and there are some buggs, like passing wehicle and it threw me to 5 meters in air.
Battlefield needs some more, like when was released battlefield 3, it changed everything, this is not really game worth for 60E price.

Head shots from 1000 yards with a sub machine gun and iron sights?? No problem at all! Not only are head shots routinely carried out by every assortment of weapon as you are in a car or pretty much anywhere else, but you will also find that you are constantly shot down by someone whom you put half a clip in just to see them with 100% health after you die. Now I dont claim to be battlefield elite, but I have played since battlefield 2 and do consider myself a decent player. Dont even get me started about how lousy the vehicles control and how badly they glitch when bumping each other. This game has really ruined it for me. Trust me when I say if you are buying this game because you enjoy the thrill of a good "even ground" hunt you are completely screwed. Buy this game if you enjoy aiming in the general vicinity of someone and letting the computer take over for you. Just give it a slight bump upwards for automatic head shots every time. Not to mention inconsistent bullet damage. 3 shots from certain rifles into someones head routinely led to them turning around and killing me with 1 or 2 shots to the chest from a pistol. I am actually a police officer so I was excited to hear how good the story was supposed to be...wow letdown number 50. The "pop your badge out and everyone drops their guns" was amusing at first. Driving in a vehicle that is supposed to be going close to 100 miles an hour while looking out the window things are going by you at closer to 20 mph was a huge let down as well. This is a game that will inevitably let down anyone that isn't a Battlefield hard fan.

The story is really sketchy. It. doesn't propose anything interesting for the players to immerse into. The characters are unreliable. The game montage looks oddly like CSI (I can not say how much of a bad thing this is). The music is alright, although it seems like hip-hop is automatic with criminals.

It's graphically uninspiring, absolutely hopeless as a single player experience (anyone telling you otherwise is either lying to you, or lying to themselves to justify their own poor decision to buy the game) and merely acceptable as multiplayer - but only insofar as being a Battlefield 4 DLC pack that's being charged at full price, because that is exactly what this is. It's the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon of the Battlefield series, but with about a tenth of the fun factor that title had.

On the plus side, it's not a completely broken mess upon release like BF4 was. So, yeah, there's that.

Quotes from the great intellectual sicfit92's review include: "3)cars running around like idiots!!! this is not a racing game goddamit!! its a shooting game!!!" Obviously dear sicfit hasn't experienced a Battlefield game before. From reading his compelling review, I have reason to believe he is in fact 12 years old and the only prior experience he has had with an FPS is Call of Duty.

On a serious note, COD kiddies should not be reviewing this game. They have no right to compare their garbage to a Battlefield instalment. These kids have barely the slightest idea of what makes a game good and blame the mechanics for their gameplay screw-ups. Reading reviews from these ill-informed idiots is painful. Is it the game's fault you have severe autism? No. Is the game responsible for your low IQ? No. If anything, go blame your parents.

Back to the actual review, if you look at this game as purely a spin-off for the Battlefield franchise and do not compare it to the previous instalments, it is extremely fun. I have played the Beta and the final version of this game and it is great if you don't let unfair comparisons to BF3 and 4 blind you. Hotwire by far is the most fun gamemode. The game may seem overpriced for something that is so similar to previous games, and after a while it can get boring. I admit there are not a lot of guns to purchase either. But besides all those minor quarrels Hardline is a great game. Not exactly what I would've wanted from a Battlefield game, but great nonetheless.

Just play heist mode and drive a car around... and around...and around till you get 60k+ dollars in a match and then buy the best gun for said class.

Then go to Team Death match thats stuck at a 64 player server only cap on really tiny... tiny maps where you will be shot in the back of the head upon spawning! so if you are lucky to spawn and kill someone in front of you before you die, your doing good! you do this over and over to get weapon unlocks. After your weapons and mods are done.. game is boring as shi*t.

Literally a dumb down version of battlefield 4. I can see them adding more stuff since they did charge us a $60.00 price tag, but nope.. literally like 6 maps total and they took away like 80 percent of the gadgets and about 50 percent of the vehicles.

This game is far from a 8, 9 or 10. The hit detection is superb and some of the new game modes are fun, but there are just too many issues that begin to stack up which holds this game back. Expand

Battlefield Hardline not worth to wait. This game is just looking like BF4 in other setting. And as BF4, Hardline has boring campaign and solid multiplayer cutted to more pieces of future DLCs. DLC, DLC,DLC...

There are multiple problems with this game, but otherwise the game is amazing, so I give it a 6. I find it to be a mix of the only 4 other games I've played on PS4. Car chases (GTA V except on the cops), the stealth is SO MUCH like Assassin's Creed: Unity (yellow when they know of your presence, red when they're engaged, last known position, crouching to be more quiet, takedowns, level of detection), the combat is very similar to The Last of Us (pistols, shotguns, melee, harder to kill than you'd expect), and since it adds many other weapons, it's kind of like CoD. In addition, they tried to put Cops and Robbers into Battlefield, which could've been okay, but it's too mixed of a setting. The campaign can sometimes be SO confusing. Especially when they're putting in the Battlefield setting. The multiplayer is also lacking... quality. The re-spawn takes SO LONG, you clearly die too quickly, it's actually a little confusing, and customization isn't that good. I got Advanced Warfare earlier, which was MUCH better. Overall, not worth $70, for sure, but maybe $40. Quite the disappointment, especially since my receipt flew away on a windy day. :( Expand

Battlefield Hardline is not a terrible game but I think it would have been a lot better accepted if it was under a different name than battlefield as the game is very.. I would really have loved to see this game if it was more closely related to battlefield 3. Expand

There's genuine long-term fun to be had in multiplayer modes, but it's not consistent. [June 2015, p.66]
