Sep 12, 2021There are many steps forward, and some small half-steps back, and while Axiom Verge 2 is certainly worth your time, it was on the verge of being something even greater, and just couldn’t quite get there.

Aug 28, 2021Axiom Verge 2 is a great game with undeniable flaws. The combat lacks focus regardless of what kind of player you are. Still, exploration manages to be enjoyable and engaging. This game is catered for Metroid fans. Anybody else might have a difficult time embracing its charm. At the end of the day, though, Axiom Verge 2 is a delightful time, deserving notable acclaim and overall success.

Aug 31, 2021Axiom Verge 2 is a stellar follow-up to one of the original indie Metroid-inspired titles. It is worth checking out even if players haven’t dove into the first game. Also you should totally play both games. They are some of the best in the indie genre. I can’t wait until the game drops on Xbox as well so all platforms have a chance to experience such an amazing experience.

Aug 20, 2021Axiom Verge 2 is a daring and quirky sequel. The emphasis on exploring the labyrinthine world shows how clever the game world is, but the combat is lacking. Fighting is not much in Axiom Verge 2, but it also becomes less important with each new skill. This metroidvania manages to present such an interesting (double!) game world that this unique second part does not feel like a miss despite the bad start.

Aug 17, 2021Even as the story continued to hammer home the point that looking back can be a curse, its last couple of hours are very specific nostalgia trips that undercut that notion. Both mechanically and narratively, the ending was disappointing for how predictable it all felt. That Axiom Verge 2 so deftly parallels Metroid’s isolation and difficulty is its greatest strength, and it sets it apart in the Metroidvania genre. But that same rigid adherence is also a good reminder of why the wider genre has had to innovate. As alluring as nostalgia can be, at a certain point, it’s time to move forward.
