    The cons:
    - The framerate is choppy at times (20fps on very rare occasions, feels much more like 30 most of the time) but not unplayable at any stage, most likely down to the amount of characters on screen at once, hopefully this gets fixed soon.
    - Theres quite a few funny glitches and bugs and few that get you stuck on collision and on a few occasions fell through the world, fast travel

    - The framerate is choppy at times (20fps on very rare occasions, feels much more like 30 most of the time) but not unplayable at any stage, most likely down to the amount of characters on screen at once, hopefully this gets fixed soon.
    - Theres quite a few funny glitches and bugs and few that get you stuck on collision and on a few occasions fell through the world, fast travel usually fixes it.
-Graphics fall short when atop buildings and having the vista of paris and all it's complexities.

    The pros:
    - Combat is actually harder, the sweet spot for countering is tighter and the animations from enemies are less suggestive, you have to really be on your toes and use your full arsenal.
    - Fresh setting with the best interiors seen in a third person game.
    - Movement is the most fluid out of all of the creed games.
    - Ascend and descend style of free-running which makes far more sense when getting up to those sync points and wanting to come down fast.
    - Removed the factions, they were fluff in the past games with injected unnecessary story, they made the game feel very arcady.
    - Enemies don't follow you across rooftops but have improved chasing skills on the ground, gives a lot more purpose to rooftops.
    - No more instant win with calling assassins out of no where.
    - Coop is AMAZING, think splinter cell chaos theory but with roles for each assassin, I just wish they were harder than they currently are.
    - Customisation is one of the biggest pluses in this game, you have such a huge array of options, head, chest, waist, hands and legs along with all the different types of weapons.
    - Turn off any HUD element (which can be most of them once you get used to the game).

    The verdict:
Wait around a month for all the bugs to smooth out as it appears that most people overly care about this.
This game is a MUST HAVE in the assassin's creed franchise, it's the most thought out and best designed one since 2. (I prefer it to 2).

I really don't understand all the user hate over this. The majority of the bad reviews sound like they're written by spoiled little kids. Honestly this is the most absorbed I've been by an AC game since AC2. The setting is fresh and gorgeous, the mechanics have been mixed up enough to make it feel fresh and it's the best protagonist the series has had since Ezio. You really feel like part of a living, breathing world with the huge crowds and being able to explore late 18th century Paris inside, out, and below. It's the closest thing I've ever felt to time travel.

I have a feeling that a number of the complaints of poor performance are coming from people who haven't even played the game or just haven't applied the day 1 patch. I've had a few frame hiccups and minimal pop-in but nothing as game breaking as some of the whining brats here would have you believe.

Ok, first off, Unity is NOT poorly optimized. The game scales well with more powerful hardware and doesn't suffer from unreasonable CPU bottlenecking. The game engine is properly multithreaded and scales well across multi-core processors.

The game IS demanding, but not ridiculously so. For example, it is only marginally more demanding than Shadow of Mordor for me, but it looks vastly better. In both games I am unnable to achieve 60fps with my GTX 770 and i5 2500k, so I cap them both at 30fps. The difference is, Shadow of Mordor has micro-stutter due to poor frame-pacing or perhaps asset loading. Unity, on the other hand, is perfectly smooth at 30fps, with no micro-stutter to mar the experience. And the ultra textures in Shadow of Mordor have heavier VRAM requirements, but don't look nearly as good as the ultra textures in Unity.

People need to keep in mind that Unity is one of the first graphically advanced current gen games. It makes no sense to compare Unity to last gen games and cross-gen games that don't look anywhere near as good. Unity runs well, given how advanced its visuals and world simulations are.

Go look up benchmarks for Dragon Age Inquisition; the performance is fairly similar to Unity, but I can tell you from first hand experience seeing the game at PAX Prime that it doesn't look as good as Unity.

Here are my recommendations for those complaining of poor performance:

First of all, if you have an average PC and expect to run advanced new games at 60fps, you're dreaming. Go upgrade your PC or just quit gaming. Game requirements are only going to get heavier now that truly "next gen" games are starting to come out.

If you DO have a decent PC, first you should know that FXAA actually gives the best image quality in this game, so there is no reason to use the more demanding forms of anti-aliasing in this game.

Second of all, if you can't maintain 60fps most of the time and your framerate is swinging up and down, just cap it at 30fps. It will actually result in a perceptively smoother gameplay experience. 30fps isn't as good as 60fps, but it's better than a highly variable framerate. The proper way to cap at 30fps is to use Nvidia Inspector and select the "half refresh rate vsync" option, with Vsync set to "standard" in the setting above that. This will give you a properly vsynced 30fps free of screen tearing or micro-stuttering. (If you have an AMD card use RadeonPro and the "double vsync" option).

Also, by using external vsync and turning off the in-game vsync option you will actually get higher framerates. Make sure you are using the game ready drivers for Unity as well.

If you are getting decent framerates, but still getting stuttering it could be because you have too little VRAM. Turn down the texture quality to "high". Using FXAA or injected SMAA and avoiding 4x MSAA or TXAA will also help with VRAM issues.

Unity runs very well on my PC considering how amazing it looks. And I am enjoying the game immensely. The story is the best yet in the series, in my opinion. I'm drawn in and legitimately want to know what happens next. It doesn't hurt that the cutscenes are so gobsmackingly beautiful.

The gameplay is also the best in the series for me. The combat is harder and requires more skill and focus. I've actually died quite a few times in this game, which generally doesn't happen much to me in other AC games.

The traversal is generally much smoother and more refined this time. The animations are incredibly detailed and varied and there is a greater sense of freedom of movement. Sometimes when using the controlled descent mechanics your character will kind of float unnaturally sideways as he is descending, but that is the only ♥♥♥♥le I have with the new mechanics. Being able to climb up, over and around things so fluidly makes me feel like spiderman. I also like the fact that you can now enter so many buildings and use them as pathways while traversing through the city.

Stealth has been improved dramatically. Finally we can crouch and take cover behind objects, which opens up all kinds of neat gameplay scenarios in the game. It's finally a proper stealth game. There is also a "last known position" mechanic, similar to that found in the recent Splinter Cell games, and it works well and allows you to use it to your advantage to attract and slip away from enemies.

The mission structure is a lot better and more flexible than in previous entries. You are given a certain mission, but it can dynamically change this time. You aren't stuck completing it only one predefined way. There is also a much greater variety of different side missions you can tackle in the game. It all makes the game so addictive.

As far as the visuals, all I can say is 'wow'. I can say without any hesitation nor hint of exaggeration that this is the best looking game I have played on PC. The lighting, shading and materials all look stunning. It's filled with detailed textures, volumetric smoke and fog, extremely detailed character models, the most realistic hair I've seen in a game, lots of neat shader work, and a host of advanced post effects.

So far it is easily the best game in the series for me and one of the best games I've played this year.

    3) the amount of people who put on the streets take their game to a level that you know even if there's a revolution about to happen
    4) the interiors of houses or shops are fantastic. Works of art in parts, Golden details, clocks, marble staircases and so on. I've never seen anything like that in a game.
    5) The supporting characters are extremely varied. They range from workers performing their activity, people carrying crosses, or other people. People killed in Barrow. This leads us to think what really was going on at that time.
    6) the amount of gameplay options is incredible. You have several ways of playing. Whether in research, whether in the cracks, either in historical discovery of riddles, is in hot pursuit, is to collect points, is to find and open objects, is to open and manage a new business and so forth. The game not to have options that challenge your ability to think and, for me, this is real game. Not to mention that the game brings a very interesting cultural contribution.

There are several other aspects that I could say here.
I will give a few bugs that has happened 9.5 in others I hadn't seen, but given the ambition of Ubisoft and the quality of the game, I'm going to give you this note. The game deserves 9.5 for sure.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off I'll talk about the stability issues of this game. If you are about to cry out that the game doesn't deserve a 10 and that I simply played this after the third patch, you would be wrong. I played this on launch day and I have never experienced a crash or freeze, a fall through the world or the disappearance of a character's face nor have I experienced weapons that won't work or hay stacks that keep you inside. Sure there were glitches, but most of them were funny body movements or crazy, but cool combat finishers. Nothing game breaking or immersion destroying and all stuff I had seen in previous entries. So let's get onto the main game...

Quite simply, this is my game of the year for 2014 and it's easily one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. This is the reason I bought a PS4. The graphics engine is stunning and I made a beeline for the first viewpoint as soon as I got into the world. I put down the controller and just smiled at how rich this world was and how great the cities of the new gen would be. Everything is presented in a beautiful fashion, there were no serious frame rate drops and the animation system is groundbreaking. The character models are realistic as well, but it's the architecturally revolutionary Paris that is the real star of the game. From the big landmarks like the Notre Dame, to the details in the smoke, to the pattern on a small kettlepot, this game is the most visually stunning experience in all of gaming.

What's an Assassin's Creed game without a good story? Unity provides an addictive narrative and likeable characters. You play as Arno Victor Dorian- he was adopted by his Templar friend's father after the death of his Assassin father, yet he has no knowledge of the secret wars that are ongoing. After the death of his second father and his subsequent framing, he meets Pierre Bellec- an assassin who is willing to train him. Breaking out of the Bastille, Arno sets out for revenge and redemption. The story hits a lot of the same notes as that of the second game and I didn't mind the familiar feeling. However, it does something different from any other Assassin's Creed game- it provides a believable and sympathetic love story that uses Arno and Elise in a Romeo and Juliet "doomed affair" style. These leads have great chemistry and the conclusion doesn't provide any happy endings. In short, this story is one of the best in the franchise's history and is easily better than the plots of the last two games.

The 20 hour or so story is backed up by over 30 hours of enjoyable and varied side content. Let's start with the co-op. There are multiple missions to tackle that can be played with a usual number of 1 friend. However, the best ones allow you to join up with three mates for some really fun times. I'll admit that I haven't even touched the online co-op, but I have played through about 4 of the missions and they are really fun. They normally have an overarching objective, but they're longer than campaign missions and reward you with random gear. The other set of co-op missions are the Heists and they task you with sneaking into a location, stealing an artifact and escaping. Every time you are detected, the reward goes down. Die and it starts all over again. I have played two and each one is varied, challenging and fun all at the same time. They also encourage replayability with randomised guard paths and rewards.

Along with the co-op, there are Paris Stories side missions, Social Club tasks (which remind me of the assassination contracts), difficult Nostradamus riddles, murder mysteries, chests with rewarding contents, viewpoints, cockades, artifacts, renovations... I could go on and on and on, but this character limit prevents me. All I can say is that I won't stop until I have 100% sync (I'm at 62%).

Now, finally onto the gameplay. The parkour system is completely renovated and just feels right. Sure there are the usual issues with entering windows here and there (1/4 of buildings now offer seamless exploration), but the new animation system is awesome and the Controlled Descent options are smart and easy to pull off. I love the way Arno jumps and climbs and it's almost like he's flying.

Then there is the combat. It's a lot harder now and you are encouraged to use all your tools. A new difficulty system determines the effectiveness of your gear and it is good to always check out your ranking to se if you can take on more than 4 guys with a rating of 3 out of 5. Stealth is also much better and there is now a crouch better. Enemies also have wider detection radiuses and the new Phantom Blade is very cool in many ways.

Customization is the real big feature of the game though, with hundreds of weapons and gear designs and thousands of combinations. Everything has its perks and there are now skill points which can be spent on upgrades like the double assassination.

I could have typed so much more, but I don't have enough space. I'll say- best AC ever!

I traded them in both, after only a few hours. Why have I told you all this? It's because I want you to know I'm being honest.
This game so far, and I have completed almost %35 of the game, reminds me of the ones that took place in Italy. The story is not spectacular but at the same time it's good enough to keep you interested. Paris is awesome and running around the street in the aftermath of the revolution is a lot of fun. Enemies are better fighters than in previous games, if you are caught 4 to 1, for example, your chances of survival are very low. In previous games I could easily take 7-8 enemies, in this one it seems very difficult to do that.
The only downside so far is the lack of new moves that I can do during combat. Other than that, I like the game a lot so far. So much that I took a sick day today and I'm playing non-stop.

Co-op mode is one of its biggest assets, which we hope to see in future installments. However, some technical issues, along with the waste of such an important moment as the French Revolution weigh down a game that could have gone even further.
