HONEST REVIEW: 4/10 mediocre. Honestly I wasn't sure what to expect from this game but it certainly wasn't what I got. Honestly I wasn't sure what to expect from this game but it certainly wasn't what I got. First off, just like with AC4 this game simply doesn't feel like an Assassin's Creed game and the protagonist never really feels like an assassin. As a fan of the series who has played every installment, I can tell you for a fact that this game feels much more like a cross between Farcry and AC, and this isn't a good thing. If you were hoping to experience dashing across the rooftops of Rome or Venice, like in previous titles, then think again. There is very little in the way of verticality in this game and unlike in AC4 where you had verticality in the wilderness, in ACO you have desert, flat, dead desert. Those who are comparing it to Horizon Zero Dawn are correct, as most "assassinations" happen by whistling people over to the tall grass and then assassinating them when prompted. And with the new level system there is no more walk up slowly and assassinate two guards simultaneously with your double hidden blades like in previous titles. Quite frankly, you never really feel like an assassin in this game, but rather a warrior who sometimes murders people quietly. The combat system is also garbage. Granted, the combat system in other AC titles wasn't excellent either, it's just that this also takes huge cues from Horizon ZD, and the leveling system ensures that you will simply be murdered by anyone who is too high level for you restricting where you can go and what you can do in this "open world." On the positive side, the world is definitely the biggest we have ever gotten in an AC game, and the graphics are beautiful. The colors and detail is very vibrant. However, the crafting, leveling, skill points, loot system, and leveling up/looting higher level weapons and gear all feels out of place. I see what they were trying to do, they were trying to expand the AC franchise and what can be done, but I can't help but feel like they could have done it better and in a way that would have felt more like an assassin's creed game instead of assassin's farcry. Honestly everything in this game feels like it is mediocre and rushed. I know Ubisoft took a year off to better polish this game, but honestly for what they were trying to accomplish with this game, it needed at least a 4 year development cycle or more to be able to pull it off, without it feeling cheap like it does. There is some fun here, and the story is. . . decent? Because of this I give it a 4, mediocre at best, and only worth a buy after a couple of price drops. Honestly, you would do better to just go get Horizon ZD if you have a PS4 or just skip this title until it's in the sales bin. Expand

    Big world and short story.
This is the weakest story in all AC games.
Charater is slow have no agilty.
Bayek charater is lame not interesting at all.
    Game is very repetative.
Stealth was way better in older AC games.
They have the longest cicle for the game to develop and game is not polished.
AC Black flag is best AC game Origins i know they experimented but is s not so good.

The game itself is actually pretty fun, it's the leveling system that makes me have to give this a 3 because if they keep using this same system in future AC games it will be very disappointing, so sorry but it really does make the game more miserable to play.

I played every main AC game so far and after AC: Syndicate I decided to give up.
The present time story wasn't really continued since AC III and the past time stories didn't manage to touch me any more. The villains weren't really well established I just felt like an [rated] killer machine all the time killing thousands (!!) of people I wasn't sure of if they are really that bad.

Then came the good reviews for Origins and I decided to give the series again another try.
    I shouldn't have.

Origins has one of the worst game entries I've played so far - you start not really knowing who you are, where you are and what you are doing - you're just told to kill some guy. Congratulations! You killed one of five villains. The motivation behind it is explained 1-2h later after doing some side quests.
Another revenge story with the caveat that the game just doesn't take time to make the player feel really involved. One mission isn't enough time to make a player care about a character.

And this is the main problem of the game:
It feels like the game grew too big for the developers turning out into lackluster and chaotic story telling.
Aside from your wife no character gets enough stage time to make you really care about them.
There are tons of characters - friends and foes - but they're just quickly introduced empty hulls.
It's also super easy to lose the overview.
At one point they introduce the super villain and the game tries to stage this reveal as a big twist.
The problem: They never introduced him properly before, so again you just don't care.

The last 3% of the story are actually well done then. The game gets more linear, the game stops introducing new characters and things get finally interesting. But... too late and it's not enough.

The side quests: Yes, they have some small cutscenes now but they neither won't tell you a good story and the tasks are repetitive like hell. No comparison to Witcher III's side quest.

A few words regarding the new RPG elements:
They didn't really work out. You find new weapons of different types all the time coming in normal, rare, legendary flavors and level depending attributes... but yeah... essentially I just picked the weapon type that worked best and changed the weapon maybe 10 times during the game and didn't even upgrade one.

The skill tree is nice but with the grown size it also lacks those big satisfying game changer skills.
Each skill just makes you a bit better or gives you a bit more comfort.

    The new combat system:
I understand that the old counter-focused system wore off.
But I really struggled with the new one as it didn't feel responsive enough.
Sometimes you feel locked by an enemy and just can't escape while
    taking more and more damage.
Throwing a smoke grenade turned out to be somewhat a matter of luck.
Often it just wouldn't trigger or trigger while picking up an item (same button).
Often you're unsure whether you have any bombs left all - there is no on
screen display for your gadgets any more.
Also combat is pretty dull - essentially you're just spamming the light or heavy
attack button all the time (matter of taste)... and maybe roll now and then. That's it.
You can also block with your shield but it didn't feel like a good option.
It's no catastrophy but it's definitely not Dark Souls.

    World building:
Nicely done. There are many different areas from huge cities to tiny villages and pitoresque countryside places. Though: There is virtually no element in the game that would give any real value to explorers. So you're essentially just consulting your game map for your next destination and either quick travel or travel there with your horse (or Camel) taking the shortest path.

AC: Origins with all that production value could have turned out as a really good game.
But it's a game that preferred mass of content over quality.
Reducing the amount of main story characters, giving each character more time and reducing the amount of side quests while giving them more love could have worked wonders for me.

So I still keep the Ezio trilogy (AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations) dear to my heart while finally giving up on the series now. It's okay for escapists who just want to dive into some historic scenario now and then while not really planning to finish the game. But if you care about characters and stories this game really wastes your time.

Despite taking a "year off" from releasing a new Assassin's Creed title, Origins feels half baked. The main story line bored me so completely up until the last two missions, I only returned to the main missions so that I could open up more side missions. This was because, until this point, I felt no drive to find out what happened next in the main story arc of the game. It was terrible at letting me feel like I was making progress towards the end villain, the person that had set this all in motion, despite that being the task the game had set for us from the start. It only handed to us the "small fry" like bait, trying to get the player hooked without giving them everything - not just yet.

While it was nice to see a change from the standard Assassin's Creed combat of Just Stand There and Counter Everyone, there is still work needed to be done on this, especially when it comes to the soft-target-lock-on system, which seemed to forever have me targeting enemies that I simply could not reach, while refusing to hit enemies that were standing right in front of me or ever so slightly to my left.

And let me not forget the massive waste of time, for both me playing the game and surely for the developers who worked on it, the "real world" moments. Where it could have been interesting to see a fresh take on this now that this series is no longer Desmond Creed, these sections were little more than a distraction and a convenient place to take a break from playing.

Overall, despite some improvements on old features that were in desperate need of fixing, and some minor slimming down of game play content that wasn't interesting or way too time consuming, I am disappointed in this game. I've enjoyed the Assassin's Creed series since the first time I played the original, and I had hoped that it would make a return from its slump with this title, this is not the case. I can only hope that it tries to get better again (maybe in another two years time?) or Ubisoft lets the series go before it's too late.

Also, there are Loot Boxes and Mircotrasactions in this game - a game that had multiple release editions, and has a Session Pass, and DLC. They aren't in your face, but they are there. Just so you know.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you want an actual Assassins Creed game, look somewhere else. A better and more descriptive name would've been Gladiators of Egypt or Angry Dad: An Egyptian Tale. I've platinum-ed the game on the PS4 and there this game have very little to do with the play style of what made Assassins Creed unique. Had the game not mentioned Animus, you would have thought it just an Egyptian Skyrim/Horizon Zero Dawn clone.

There is practically zero need to sneak around in the game, no penalties for being detected and most combat is spent in open conflict with some kind of heavy weapon. There's zero finesse required for any assassination mission, just kick down the front door to your target's location and hamfist your way to him with whatever weapon you choose.

"Crafting" in this game is just a grind fest, a better description would be more like a Upgrade Mini-game than actual crafting, you can only upgrade 5 pieces of gears anyways, and they just require a few different type of materials that you can obtain either from looting treasures or hunting animals around the world. The hunting was fun for about 2 hours then it quickly descends into a distracting job.

Progression of the story is marred by contact need to level-up your character or upgrade your gear due to the silly RPG leveling system Ubisoft decided to add to the game. While a metal blade through the throat of a lvl 10 Egyptian footman kills him, a lvl 30 Greek Soldier now has the power of the Xmen Colossus and becomes resistant to metal blade to the neck. There are no longer the lovely dance of death with counter kills and execution streaks. Ubisoft have devolved the combat of Assassins Creed to Call of Duty, if it moves, hit it with something heavy and sharp till it stops moving.

The story of the game is shallow, the characters are one dimensional. Compared to previous ACreed's characters like Ezio or even Haythem, Bayek is has about as much character as a piece of napkin with angry curse words written over it, and even less of an emotional range as Ronald Weasley, mostly stuck between very angry and very very angry. Unlike the cultured character we learned to love, Bayek has the vocabulary prowess as the typical American high school student, using mostly 4 letter words that can be commonly heard if one was working on a manure farm. Story can be summed up by a single sentence. "My son is dead, now I get to kill everybody I think is responsible." Oh, and we actually don't find out his son is dead until maybe an hour into the game after you kill a bunch of people which you have no idea why you're killing as a player.

The revenge mission of dead online players and instagram like feature of sharing screenshots in the game at best can be described as annoying, and at worst completely destroys immersion. Your mind has to decide if you're reliving the Ancient Egyptian past or if you're in some kind of facebook simulator skinned by an Egyptian theme.

The messages left by the precursor civilization that you can find by Bayek is long and cryptic to a point of being unnecessary. Imagine a typical technobabble on a star trek episode, then multiply that by 20 then topped again by useless references to everything "edgy" and "sciency" Ubisoft can think of that conveys a simple message of "Nothing is True" -Perception of reality is subjective, "everything is permitted" - All actions have consequences. And by the end you're not quite sure if its Bayek who found the message or they were build into the Animus because Bayek is simply not even responsive to the display of advanced technology or even puzzled by the technobabble, he simply stands there, like what Ubisoft wanted him to be, a large angry meat sack.

I have no idea how ANYONE can give his game more than a 5/10, but perhaps most people are easily pleased.

    3. HUGE world, just really boring. Same thing, over, and over, and over, and over, and over. Go somewhere, get quest, find person, save them or kill them, repeat over and over with very subtle differences.
    4. Loading up from a saved game takes about a minute and a half. Loading from fast travel to fast travel takes about 30 seconds.
    5. The story was pretty boring, a few twists here and there but nothing memorable or spectacular. I have beaten the game and still dont quite understand what the protagonists goal was. (The person visiting the Animus.) Maybe I didn't pay enough attention, but I didn't really feel like I wanted to either.
    6. Easy. This game was just flat out easy using stealth. Nothing even had a chance with sleep dart or poison darts.
    7. They could have added more environmental interactions/traps/distractions/etc...The few you have (fire) gets old pretty quickly.
This game is just meh. I would buy it at 30$ no that I have played it, but due to microtransactions not a penny more.

I'm giving this game 0 points on general principle. Here's why:

There's a game concept that's free-to-play on mobile platforms: "If you wanna get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time, pay up! If you don't, feel free to play our game, but be prepared for countless hours of grinding."

Ubisoft decided to take this approach with ACO - a full-price title! Am I wrong in thinking I have the right to be spared this unethical behavior after having shelled out over € 60? This is at eye level with Star Wars Battlefront II.

And they don't even bother to mask this approach. You have this gigantic open world, but every guard, every bandit, every animal is leveled, and if their level exceeds yours, it's certain death for you. Doesn't matter how good you are, they will kill you because their level says so. So in this open world sandbox you have to do what completely goes against open world sandboxes: You have to follow the narrative's path and take on every side quest you encounter, so you can level up to proceed to the next area - and even then the XP system is designed in such a way that it's still not enough, so you have to sink hours in hunting and farming for miniscule XP rewards - or pay real money, and Ubisoft doesn't tire of reminding you that they think that's a really cool option. Wanna go exploring in an open world sandbox game? Pay the retail price all over again, level up to 40, and you can do so!

And if that wasn't enough, Ubisoft went and paid some Southwest Asian click farm to spam Metacritic with fake 10s. ACO could be the greatest game ever to hit home consoles - this behavior deserves 0 points and hopefully sales figures way below expectations. This is an unacceptable business model, and I hope the chickens come round to roost.

Second, cats. Why are cats killable? More importantly, why do they like to run into danger so much? I honestly try to NOT kill cats but more often than not they run into poison and die. I also don't know why but every time in the past few days I've used poison there have always been cats around. Every. time. and every time they get killed I feel horrible.
Once I was petting a cat and stretched my arms out in real life, causing the attack button to get ever so lightly tapped, causing Bayek to swing his weapon and instantly kill the cat that I was enjoying petting! AND THEN THE GAME YELLED AT ME ABOUT IT! I didn't mean to kill it! I didn't want to kill it and the game just shoves it in your face like it's YOUR fault.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As much I am enjoying this game, there's a massive elephant in the room which has a big effect if you're a person like me who likes a good storyline: the storyline is just very weak and that's not the only problem with the story.

Not only is the story weak, but, as someone who's played every AC title to date, it completely takes a big steaming dump on the lore, and here's how:

    1) Why does Bayek have a hidden blade when in the lore of the story Darius in the 5th Century was the first user of the hidden blade? It makes no sense.

    2) Why is Amunet renamed as Aya?

    3) No mention of Brutus, Marcus Antonius or Leonius?

    4) It's made very clear in Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood that the Assassin's existed before Origins, and it's also hinted that it started with Adam and Eve... where did this go?

    Other problems with the story:

    1) Layla Hassan... I won't point it out, but it makes no sense.

    2) Certain missing individuals.

Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant game to play, but the poor storyline is just so off-putting that I just can't enjoy it, it makes no sense.

But this new entry in the series just made me lose faith in the franchise, as they had one more year to "make it right" and it seems that it wasn't enough.

The ending of the story leaves you pretty unsatisfied (you can check on reddit for a general concensus of that opinion), the new approach to gameplay which changes the usual and tried counter in fights is now changed to an action RPG with influences from The Witcher 3 but does not execute it properly, or at least I felt it so. The graphics also feel rushed and pretty lackluster.

If you're a fan of the series, I do recommend playing it, but most definitely at a lower price than it currently is. If you're not, you're better off playing The Ezio Collection or basically any other entry in the series and just read the minimal progression of the story this game has rather than play it.

Sorry to say this Ubisoft but no amount of money sent to reviewers will hide the truth of an uninspiring game.

Game designed only to pull more money your pockets and accounts. Game CANT BE FINISHED without buying **** loot boxes. This game could be very very good, but is just a cancer on the game industry.

Very disappointed by this game ! A promise of a new start for Assassin's Creed but this game is just like the others. Ok... graphics and the world are beautiful, maybe even more on PS4 Pro.
Ubisoft's games price are becoming more expensive years after years (and I don't event talk about the Season Pass cost...) but games quality is going down! And and.. Helix credits.. seriously ?!

Tips: Just wait 3 months and you will have this game at half price and even less until the release of the next year AC game...

May be the game is good, but you'll never know for sure because of ridiculous INPUT LAG and frame drops. I suppose Ubisoft should be renamed into InputLagSoft.

We have deal with horrible performance due to drm, first on steam, then, uplay, then Denison and then VMware, running a virtual windows environment so the game can’t be pirated. Guess what Ubisoft. We bought this game and don’t deserve to be treated like thieves!!!

scripted. there is a system in the game that when you die somebody can have a mission to avenge you... and it strange but sometime it feels like the game force you to die.

It's every year the same. The first two games of Assassins Creed where great. Now we get each year a new, uninspired/boring AC with other places. The Egyptian setting is just awful. I mean ok, the graphics are well, but it's so boring!

It is sad that we have reached a point where games publishers think that charging full price for a game isn't enough; instead they want more money by giving the player incentive to pay for loot boxes. It is especially sad because the game itself is already a buggy, glitchy mess. Jeez Ubisoft, you make Bethesda look good.

Es Bastante Mediocre Sin Originalidad Y Una Historia Bastante Mala que no evoluciona y no hablo de las versiones de ps4 y xbox one con caídas de frame que dañan la jugabilidad.

I'm sorry, but this is just pure awful. 4 hours in and I am constantly praying the story will become interesting (it hasn't), it's just boring. The entire game is exactly that, boring. It feels far too much like Horizon Zero Dawn, badly. The combat system is terrible, it's so bad. They turned away from the old system from the Ezio series because it was "unrealistic", this is even worse.I'm sorry, but this is just pure awful. 4 hours in and I am constantly praying the story will become interesting (it hasn't), it's just boring. Far from impressed with this to be honest. I like the idea of where they went, but they just couldn't deliver for me. I don't think they will ever top Black Flag, 3 or the Ezio collection. I prefer the old combat system when you could take on 5 people at once and just destroy them all (like an assassin should). Expand

This game is so historically innacurate it ruins my immersion, its not fun to play as a history major when you know nothing of this happened.

What is it with PS4 franchises? Long term faves like Tekken, Call Of Duty and Battlefront have been blacklisted by me anfd now Assassins Creed joins the ever growing list of games I will not buy again.

First thing you notice is the new combat system and its not good its bloody terrible. The game seems to be trying to be Witcher 3 rather than an Assassins Creed game. Other than graphics

Honestly, the game is really really boring. crappy voice quality, boring plot that makes you want to not even finish the prologue, outlandish rpg elements that dont belong to an assassin's creed game (same issue that plagues odyssey) and it's not a 0 because the graphics are the only good thing about it

Assassin's Creed: Origins is the best game in the series, but it's a mediocre action RPG at its core. In this sense, it both succeeds and fails at being a much-needed franchise shakeup.

Origins is the newest installment in rather worn out series and a much appreciated and needed refresh. New combat and graphically fantastic environment with tons of content will gave you some nice moments. The game is not a blast but it is a proof that AC is back on the right track again, for now.

With a beautiful world you'll repeatedly die for and lethal toys to play with, Assassin's Creed Origins finally delivers the game you always wanted from the series. Brilliant. [Christmas 2017, p.87]
