A boring, empty, soulless game, with no story, just a infinite grind through a jungle of bugs. Pun intended.

I hope they manage to fix this mess of a game, because the potential is there, it's so clear that this game could be amazing. But the truth is, little by little, I won't even bother playing EA games. Maybe this was the last one.

But if Anthem is already dead, then so is EA.

The best way I can describe Anthem as a video game is that it really isn't one. It's a truly barebones experience by all standards that I had little to no enjoyment playing whatsoever. Hating on this game is popular, but I actually played a significant amount it and can safely say that every criticism you've likely heard about it is absolutely true.

For starters, the story is a mess that doesn't make much sense. Nothing is really ever expanded on, nor is a cohesive narrative or game world ever present at any point. Something about the Anthem of Creation and cataclysms and invaders, etc. The characters are also lacking in depth and personality. They all, including the protagonist, desperately try to be funny but rarely if ever achieve that goal. Dialogue options make a compulsory appearance, but it has absolutely no effect on the conversations at all and only serves to waste your time.

You get quests at an empty, lifeless hub world that you have to slowly travel in first-person for some reason. This is where you talk to people who aren't interesting about things you don't care about and take on missions that aren't fun. It honestly serves as a buffer to the gameplay, especially with the gargantuan load times you suffer in transition.

Speaking of gameplay, it isn't very fun. Missions are, as I said, barebones. If you've ever played a patrol mission in the Destiny series, picture those as every mission, main or side, in the entire game. You have essentially 3 options: Fly to place and kill things, fly to place and defend static area while killing things, or fly to place and kill things while collecting materials they drop. That's literally it. That's every mission in the game. Period.

And the gameplay itself gets old really quick. The novelty of piloting your Javelin suit evaporates within the first few hours. Turns out being Space Iron Man isn't fun when you have nothing to do. There are only a handful of enemy types in the entire game and only two different heavy miniboss enemies. You'll get very tired of killing the same giant shield-bearers over and over again. Combat also feels disjointed. Unlike other shooter-looters, enemies don't really react to getting shot. You more or less just fire at them until their health meter goes down then they drop dead. Games like Destiny and Warframe may be grindy, but at least they feel good to play. Anthem does not.

The loot in Anthem is likewise underwhelming. In fact, it feels completely inconsequential. One of the most important things about being a loot-driven game is to make it exciting to get better loot. All "loot" in Anthem looks pretty much the same, from weapons to Javelin parts. Really you're just combing though a post-mission menu equipping the thing with the highest number. There's no variety, excitement, or fun to the loot. In fact, the entire loot system feels like it was tacked on as an afterthought in order to extend player engagement.

Graphically, Anthem isn't great. The lush jungles look nice at first, but textures were always popping in at a distance and constantly reminding me of the broken nature of this game. I played on an original PS4 so maybe it looked better on a Pro, but I can only judge it based on how I experienced it. Also, that lush jungle is the environment for the entire game. Outside of some caves and ruins, there are no other biomes to speak of.

I will say that I did have some fun with the heavy Javelin type (Colossus I believe). It was fairly fun to to used my hulking frame to pound enemies into the dirt. I felt powerful and it was reasonably satisfying given the static overall feel of the combat. But that's as far as my enjoyment went.

Anthem is an early access game that was sold at a premium $60 price. It's an embarrassment to video games, an embarrassment to EA, and and embarrassment to Bioware. Apparently it was in the conception stage for 5 years and only actually worked on for a single year before being dumped out on us in the shape it was in. Not that it's improved much since launch. Bioware literally had to cancel the entire post-launch roadmap because they were unable to fix the game in a timely manner.

Some people are hoping for a Final Fantasy XIV-style rebirth, but I am not. FFXIV was led by a talented lead designer with a passionate team of of developers. Bioware has no creative direction or drive to fix anything in Anthem and it shows. At the time of this writing, it's been almost two years since launch and nothing has improved. Anthem will likely go down in history as a testament to mismanaged game development, corporate deceit, and the absolute failure of live-service games. And honestly, it deserves to do so.

Same with mech enhancements.
I spent months playing Warframe, which is just as grindy, but it offered so many different things to aim for that it kept me hooked. Here you'll probably have fun during the campaign, especially if you play with friends, but after that there is literally nothing. The missions are always the same, and more powerful enemies are simply the same enemies with higher stats. I didn't last one month.

You will be given a choice of NPC's to go and speak to which will raise one of your factions scores slightly. Some of them are interesting to listen to while others ... not so much.

The story is okay'ish. It isn't anything superb but it worked for what it was and I enjoyed playing through it and then it happened. I hit end game.

I call it end game but there is barely anything to do and nothing that would keep my interest for long.

You have 3 strongholds, one of which you've been doing since rank 7 and one is just a repeat of the last mission, the epitome of lazy game design.

The gear drops, oh dear the loot drops. Once you hit ilevel 400 in hard and got some masterwork weapons it's time to hit grandmaster. Now with the 165% increase in mob health and damage and a huge 75ilevel for the next grandmaster rank I expected the gear drops to be higher level than hard mode.

    How very wrong I was.

Drops in hard mode are ilevel 36 and drops in grandmaster are ilevel 36 which the occasional legendary that has a bit of an increase. This takes grinding to a whole new level because at ilevel 400 you are barely useful in a fight. Your guns do minimal damage and your abilities will barely scratch anything. The ult from my colossus at that level didn't even knock the shields from a legendary mob with all 3 hits. Speaking of playing colossus at grandmaster, welcome to revival 101 because that's what you will spend most of your time doing while running around reviving those that play like it's still hard mode and think they can fight the same.

I can see why they slowed gear progression down, there is nothing else to the end game.

The story isn't long enough to drag out the game and end game isn't deep enough to warrant me playing it on a regular basis. There is only so many times I can see Tyrant Mines or The Heart of Rage before the sight of them bores me and i'm beyond bored of the first stronghold by this point.

Now it has come to light that Anthem is bricking PS4 consoles and Sony is offering full refunds to anyone that bought it digitally, no questions asked. Just mail Sony and it's done.

Sadly I got mine from Amazon so i'm stuck with a game I can't play because I daren't risk my console.

All in all it's an average game plagued with more problems than it's worth. I cannot recommend this game to anyone. It was released far too early and BioWare can't seem to fix the problems the game has. Current issues are quite serious but nothing.

One thing I see a lot is the game is fun with friends. Everything is fun with friends. I could sit and watch paint dry on a fence with my friends and still have a laugh. If a game isn't fun on it's own right and needs your friends to make it entertaining then it isn't worth your money.

The story really disappointed me with repetitive gameplay and really REALLY long loading screens. Microtransaction, do I need to say more. It felt like the voice actor/actress for the NPC felt lazy and no passion. It's probably better playing with your friends but I had trouble actually getting in a game even if I have my PS Plus. These things really affect how I play this game and it's not an enjoyable experience. This game had a lot of hope to be great and this makes me feel worried about the future of Bioware Expand

Missed opportunity. In short, it has potential but its not a $60 game right now and may not be for a good while.

    Pros
    1. Flying is fun
    2. The game has potential
    3. The world is beautiful
    4. Combat at least at first is a lot of fun

    Cons
    1. Shallow story
    2. Bugs galore
    3. The missions are extremely repetitive, lacking real variety
    4. In 2019, this many load screens and the long waits in them(even after the patch) is unacceptable
    5. Its a game as a service which means its not finished and as of right now theres not enough to do in the game. Essentially you're buying a promise from EA for continued support even if and most likely sales are lower than projected.
    6. Framerates do drop especially during combat.
    7. As much potential as this game has, its been rushed out whether by EA or Bioware or both. And it shows.
    8. Novelty of combat wears off quickly.
    9. Game needs better and different weapon types bc all feel and are about the same outside of damage. Also customized looks for the javelins would be great. Outside of the microtransactions ones i mean.
    10. 7 yrs in development to get this. I don't mean to sound biased but if it takes you this long to come out with a game that still belongs in beta imo, I worry absolutely about the state and depth of any dlc Bioware may come out with.

4/10 right now but it has a chance to get better but it's not worth $60 first day.

Sure, there are good things about this game, especially the flying. The flying is the huge highlight of this game which is great, but to me that's the one of a few things that is good. The story itself is terrible and I got really bored through the story. It's sad that there's only 3 stronghold after completing the game and one of the stronghold is basically the final mission on repeat.
We have to wait until May (2 months) for the raid to drop and I'm sure by then most players that are still active will reach max level and get bored.
This game will definitely improve in the future, but as for now it's really glitchy and buggy. The flight is one of the reason why it boosted this game to a 4/10 instead of 1/10 or 2/10.
I'll probably still play this game down the road to see where it goes but right now it's a huge disappointment. Hopefully they improve and fix everything that is wrong about this game

The main story is generic and not very interesting, with most players I speak to choosing to skip through conversations completely, as well as this, prepare to frequently cringe at NPC dialogue during missions and cutscenes, completely removing any sense of immersion or tension, and the ending will leave you more disappointed than most recent Star Wars movies.

Customization of your Javelin is one of the selling points of this game, giving you the ability to combine 6 elements across your character, including textures, patterns & colours, and while this is a refreshing change, armour pieces are currently locked behind a coin grind/paywall, with only 3 or 4 options currently available.

Flying is an interesting concept, although combat is nothing revolutionary, as you will eventually tire of using the same COMBO attacks and a small handful of Masterwork/Legendary weapons against the same enemy types, enemy AI actually improves at Grandmaster 1 difficulty, but once you have beaten this, it also becomes repetitive.

Due to a current shortage of End Game content, the game feels unfinished, and the above issues turn an otherwise good looking grinding experience into a chore, upcoming patches and free DLC's promise to fix these issues but at this point, your money will be better spent on any of the other current games coming out on the market.

Note: if you have nothing else to play, or have very LOW expectations, you will enjoy this game for a week or two like I have, anyone rating this game 0-3 / 6-10 is most likely a TROLL, do not be fooled, this game is at best an AVERAGE looter shooter, and at worst a BELOW AVERAGE title given it's competition.

Anthem is effectively a four-person, instanced; squad shooter. The bulk of the action takes place within instanced missions, or strongholds (dungeons). These can be fun, especially on higher difficulty levels; however the objectives consistently boil down to 1. Kill everything, 2. Fetch this, or 3. Kill everything & fetch this. This is not uncommon, but other games in this genre try to present these objectives in an engaging way. In Anthem, they are presented lazily.

    This all gets tiresome quickly.

Yes - flying in a robotic suit, firing missiles, hitting combos; and shooting machine guns is fun.. but there is no real depth here.

There is little incentive to play at higher difficult levels other than for thechallenge. In other looter shooters you are rewarded by the increased chance of better gear or loot; that isn’t the case here.

The game is also disjointed. The menu layout is unintuitive, there are long load times, you have to return to Fort Tarsis (your base of operation) far too frequently, you cant swap equipment in-mission, sound stops and starts in big firefights, the javelin controls are a bit peculiar (there is no ascent option, you have to move forwards if you want to fly up; thus prepare to hit a lot of walls). I could go on. Basically, all of these frustrations pull you out of what could have been a good game.. if there was any game there to have. This is just a lot of interesting sci-fi shooter ideas, poorly executed.

There are some bizarre design choices. Fort Tarsis (your base of operation) is purely singleplayer. You have to actively travel to (load) a separate social area to engage with other players. Why not integrate the two ala Destiny?

Customisation is good, and there are a number of components, weapons, grenades etc.. which shows potential for customising a build. However, you are still effectively pigeon holed into a specific part of the class spectrum (Rogue: Interceptor, Mage: Storm, Tank: Gladiator, Generalist: Ranger).

All in all - this feels more like a demo than a fully fleshed out game. The fact that this was released at full price is shocking.

I give this game a 4 because it can be entertaining (and I only paid £5 for it), but it needs a complete re-work.

One positive about the game would be the visuals the world looks pretty but it's completely shallow and non interactive. Also controls and movement feel very satisfying for a little while until you realise that it's just the same thing over and over. I think the only way to salvage a game would to be completely redo the loop system for better weapons and better more interesting gear. For me the combat and flight is really fluid and the upgrade/progression system is strong, the world is beautiful but feels dead, after finishing the game I had no idea what the Anthem is nor what it meant and its real significance.. running around in the base is also too slow and there is so much dialogue after every mission its ridiculous, I stopped caring half way through and smashed that skip button, there are still dodgy connection issues, and a metric crapton of bugs, missions don't have variety and is a rinse repeat model. the game lacks purpose.. and diversity.

The sheer amount of loading screens often lasting 1-2mins each is frustrating on top of the fact that endgame quickplay on GM1+ is always dropping you into either bugged missions or finished missions (!!) so you'reloading in and out all the time is gamebreaking.

Originally rated 5 but downgraded rating to 2 after spending 20+hrs endgame, the game has broke me in a way in which I stopped caring about the game. time to move on.

Much of the content shown in devstream cut and served on the grain in the form of new content.

I buy my games, I do not rely on developers codes and I do not get paid to review games. For me, if a game is not fun, it is not a good game. If a game is unfinished, it is not a good game. If the game is a grind, it is not a good game.

I play games for entertainment and I am not beholden to being blacklisted if I give a bad review so here it goes.

The graphics of this game are a bag of mixed nuts. Some areas are simply beautiful, some areas are full of pop-ins, and for the most part, after the first hour I was frustrated. Additionally the loading screens are horrendous. Finally I found myself getting dizzy.

This game is unfinished with boring missions, boring and some unnecessary NPC who for some reason want to tell you their life stories. The enemies and basically the same and the main villain is treated poorly.

I want to go on, but simply put, I cannot get my money back so I am left with reselling the game or trade it in, which is a shame since again, BioWare did not deliver on its promise.

I end with one question: Why BioWare, why have you given us another vanilla shooter?

EDIT: All my trophies glitched up and now I'm trading it in to Gamestop to get at least half of my money back. This will be the last time I preorder a game published by EA. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

ORIGINAL: I'm going to be honest right here. I want so much to love this game. It has SO much potential, but it is unacceptable how many bugs and glitches there are. As a gamer, I am actually okay with a delay of a game if it's necessary. In fact, delays are sometimes necessary. This game NEEDED to be delayed.

I picked this game up on Day One. HDR was broken, and I'm not playing a crappy looking game without HDR on my 4K HDR TV. 2nd time that I tried playing this game, I couldn't even get in because there was a problem with the servers. 3rd time, I was in the middle of a mission and I got the PS4 error blue screen. Then, after playing for a solid 4 hours, my guns suddenly disappearing off my Javelin in between missions. This is unacceptable.

Before buying this game, I went solely off the videos released for this game. It looks awesome. It actually feels awesome. I like that I can wreck things using the Colossus. I love how beautiful the game looks, and that I can fly around in an "Avatar-like" world.

    Here are my gripes:
    1) The amount of bugs and glitches, including trophy glitches. Then again, this is something I should expect from EA at this point. Don't want a bad reputation? Stop being dumb.
    2) Why is there overheating when I'm flying? Seriously. It's an annoyance.
    3) The missions are predictable and feel like busy work. Kill X amount of enemies, find X amount of runes, etc.
    4) The enemies are bland and boring.
    5) There is one area. Destiny had a variety of planets and enemies (although I'm not a Destiny lover..I have my problems with that game as well).
    6) WHY IN THE WORLD DO I HAVE TO GO TO THE FORGE EVERY TIME I WANT TO CHANGE MY WEAPONS?!?!?
    7) Why no mini map or custom icons? When I go collectible hunting, this makes it easier. Come on EA, you're a AAA developer.

I truly feel like this game were rushed and deserved a few more betas. Gamestop has a trade-in deal for this game before next week, so I'm going to play what I can, trade it in, and pick it up later for cheap when it's more complete. Sorry Bioware, but this was a mis-step. Focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

+ Animations and lip-sync are good
    + Gameplay is smooth

Just finished the campaign. Worst final boss fight in a AAA looter shooter. Worse than Ghaul. Generally, the enemy AI is moronic and the missions are chaotic and ill designed. I had little trouble with glitches and bugs, though I did get disconnected a few times. The loading screens were intrusive. Terrible game.

before i begin i totally see myself might re-reviewing ths game again in the future. this game deserves a 6/10 at its current state (launch)! it has a lot of issues to be fixed the game is a total mess ive even had to open youtube after a cutscene cuz in the middle of the cutscene the game has stuck and then "disconnected from the EA servers" how lame ! but other than that the game isbefore i begin i totally see myself might re-reviewing ths game again in the future. this game deserves a 6/10 at its current state (launch)! it has a lot of issues to be fixed the game is a total mess ive even had to open youtube after a cutscene cuz in the middle of the cutscene the game has stuck and then "disconnected from the EA servers" how lame ! but other than that the game is definitely not polished i have to mention the fact that EA should STOP using the frostbite engine for everything they own! frostbite is not made for games such as ME, Anthem or any bioware game at all !!!! i see a ton of issues that im sure the developers would've done amazing things if not that FPS engine ( not that im complaining the game is outstandingly beautiful but its not designed for these kinda games!) !!! anyhow im still going to play this game a lot the combat is addictive and amazing ! the customization is superb ! and the expedition is beautiful. but the story in this game is so basic and we didnt get much from the interesting stuff, i also heard bioware had to cut a ton of content because the publishers told them to and thats just awful! and all of the characters arent that interesting or memorable even though i really tried to like the characters but it didnt work ! and not to mention that the people in the world are just unreadable or matching the whole world like why is fort tarsis a middle eastern look with british/ american/ russian citizens ??? i dont get the whole concept with the all HUB area doesnt add up, at least tell us in the story how the world of anthem goes... anyhow lets get to a conclusion i still enjoy playing this game ! im totaly going to spend more time with it and would definitely be happy to see new content in the future i love all the javelins they are all fun and very balanced (my fav is the storm and ranger these 2 are so fun for me but i havent tried the colossus and interceptor yet even though i have all the javelins rn but ill get to them within progress haha) and they way you customize the javelins is so fun and unique ! and the gameplay is super fun ! for real the whole flying thing with the javelins makes D2 feel like a baby with those sparrows(but dont take me wrong i gave D1&D2 a 9/10 i have been playing these games for a long period and same with warframe which i gave a 10/10 and also warframe has jetpacks) and just because the flying and gameplay and combat in anthem is so fun this makes me want to play it more !!! and the whole loot system, yeah this game has recycled loot only with different ranks and all of them look pretty much the same... anyhow this game couldve been a whole lot better if bioware would have not used the frostbite engine and showed a middle finger at EA and used their own engine ! i really love bioware i have been playing their games for many years of my life ! and i am tired of AAA publishers always trying to make T rated games so kids could use their parents credit card for microtransactions and these T rated games are so effortless (battleroyal and fifa for example) if they want to succeed they should open their minds and make more M rated games with no rubbish monetization schemes and ways to nickle and dime people in the most greedy way as possible and i know that the bioware team is super talented in making awesome games ! but at least from now on im not going to buy and EA game for full price or wont buy an EA game in general that publisher used to be an awesome competitor to activision but now EA is on the list of my stay away titles together with ubisoft, bethesda, and of-course activision! i really wanted to love this game and i know bioware can do a fantastic job i know they could ! but the past EA entries i just seem to give up on them and will probably keep my doubts for the nex titanfall even ! anyhow i hope EA and bioware will learn from this and i really am looking for more content in the future for anthem :)! 6/10

UPDATE: had to downgrade the score and give it a 2/10 the game just got worse! i feel like bioware is shooting themselves in the foot! i really love bioware but todays bioware is just a disaster! i wish i could love this game but i just cant anymore ! it crashes my ps4 everytime i play it ! there is absolutely nothing to do in the game after you finish the campaign, and the game itself is buggy AF!!!! its so buggy the game itself is a huge bug!!! anyhow im out of space here but please do your self a favor and stay away from this game ! PLAY WARFRAME !! trust me you wont regret it its more polished and its free and the microtransactions are worth it (you dont have to even buy microtransactions in warframe you can just grind the game doesnt force you to pay, anthem indeed does force you to pay more than what you already bought plus anthem is way more trash than warframe !) anyhow dont spend your time and money on anthem go to warframe!

    for some reason as well.
Micro transaction are not to bad the price of items for in game currency was defiantly increased but the cosmetic items don't look that great that you would want to spend real world money on them so far.
The game is repetitive but you have to expect that in a looter shooter and the javelin mechanics do make it fun.
I rarely ran into any bugs but the connection problems are a huge issue.

if the game fixed the connection problems and the story for future expansions if any are massively improved then the game could be a 7.
at this point the game is a 4 if not for the connection issues being so frequent id give it a 5 but the game does show that it was not ready for release.

the world is so empty and i dont care what you say, this game was so heavily false advertised its criminal. it feels like such a huge chunk of the game was ripped out and we are left with the shell. All these "free updates" imo were already apart of the game but they are going to slowly give us these "updates" back into the game to make it seem like they're doing something. although to combat is fun and the flying is ok but some what limited for 20seconds or so before having to recharge, it doesnt excuse the fact that its worse than vanilla destiny, with so much content ripped from the game it makes vanilla destiny seem like a full game.

id wait a year before getting this when the actual game we should have gotten is ready.

Update: with the games recent update the game has become broken, the loot less rewarding, end game content being deleted from your map,the game constantly glitching out and restarting your game, errors, loading screens lasting 5-10min at times. I highly suggest everyone at this point not buy the game, its already on sale shortly after release as well so give it a while before making a bad investment in this game

Update from latest patch: do not buy this game, i have never felt so unrewarded for my time in my life. th eloot system is broken beyond belief that you could waste hours at end game and feel as if you have achieved nothing.

I tend to really like grinding for gear in looter games. After 13 years on WoW, 5 on Destiny, and lots of time spent on other games like Diablo and The Division, I’m no stranger to the genre. Given all my gripes with the game, I’m sure I would have stuck around and even enjoyed my time if the gear was at all interesting. But it just isn’t. It’s some of the most boring loot I’ve ever seen in a video game.

I'm not going to list the bugs present in the game because I'm fairly certain I'd hit the max character limit (I'm being serious), so I'll just say a few words about core game mechanics and gameplay. The gameplay is something quite new, that on top of beautiful graphics is definitely making a great impression, and that's as far as the positive aspects go. The first impression goes away within 10h, so you're left dealing with game that has a TONS of loading screens, short, shallow story, small map that's mostly empty, THREE STRONGHOLDS ("endgame"), uninteresting loot, and almost no armors. All you do is play with colors - that's pretty much as far as customization goes. Weapons are uninteresting, all feel the same. There's literally a handful of weapons and all that changes is their rarity and level. As far as I can see 3x weapons of each type, and there's like 6 or 7 types. Stupid and completely ridiculous design choices that are worse than all mistakes looter-shooter games in the past did (Destiny, Division). Question comes to mind what in the hell did they do for SEVEN YEARS!? You put in 10h, 20h max and you're done. You've seen it all, there's nothing more. Anthem is a strong contender for the worst game of 2019 and I'm pretty sure it will take the crown at the end of the year. I'm not even hating, I really had high hopes, and I really, really tried to like this game. I wanted this to be successful but it won't be, bugs aside - this game's core is so broken it's beyond repair. You had one chance bioware. Literally every single decision in this game screams incompetence. I'm officially done with bioware products. I mean the concept of having four javelins, flying around in an open world like Iron Man, and blowing stuff up is a winning for In and of itself, but only EA knows how to take a grand idea and completely destroy it.

Let me go ahead and talk about what I do like about the game first. You get four javelins to pilot each of which you can switch between at any time you like, all of which feel very distinct from each other, and you aren’t forced to stick with one, which I do like a lot. Gameplay is really fun and engaging with you being able to fire guns and unleash each Javelin’s abilities, in addition to zipping all over the place to rain down hell upon your enemies, set up combos, or flank around them. The game is gorgeous to look at it and the particle effects are spectacular if not somewhat blinding. The customization and ability to create your own unique Javelin is INCREDIBLY satisfying. And lastly the flying, oh man flying around in this game feel absolutely incredible.

... But that’s really all I have nice to say about this game because aside from that this game is RIDDLED with bugs and technical issues. I’ve encountered numerous audio glitches where the audio sounds like it’s skipping a beat, The customization is amazing, but there’s hardly any cosmetics to earn or to buy with coins, I’ve had several crashes, enemies have disappeared right in front of me, the frame rate drops to 20fps, status effects like being frozen completely screw up my javelin, game causes annoying lag when in Freeplay, cutscenes don’t fully play out, the story is just weak & uninspiring, the game is has the most laziest mission design I’ve ever seen in a game, damn near worst than vanilla Destiny, this game has the worst bullet sponges I’ve ever fought in a video game, and I just completed a lair, got to the end, and the little console that’s supposed to take you out didn’t even register.

Like seriously did BioWare even test this game at all, because the amount issues in the game is completely unacceptable. This is a $60 game, it’s not free to play so there’s absolutely no excuse for this and quite frankly BioWare ought be ashamed of themselves for releasing a game in the state that it’s in. Whether this is BioWare or EA’s fault I don’t care, BioWare deserves to get shut down for this because the talent this studio once had is clearly gone. This game feels like it was built by amateurs who had absolutely no clue what the hell they were doing.

    Pros:

    • Spectacular particle effects
    • Absolutely gorgeous graphics
    • 4 very unique javelins to pilot
    • Incredibly detailed customization
    • Intuitive flying mechanics
    • Hiding soooo much potential
    • Satisfying combo system

    Cons:

    • Repetitive & monotonous mission structure
    • Completely boring mission design
    • Annoying bullet sponges
    • Completely broken game plagued with technical issues
    • Game crashes incredibly often
    • Weak uninspiring story
    • No map marker to make navigation easier
    • Doesn’t reward the player enough for their efforts
    • Incredibly lame/poor weapon design
    • Weak uninspiring guns
    • Sheer lack of cosmetic items like armors & gear pieces
    • Incredibly unreasonable grind for coins to purchase cosmetics
    • Forces you to have an Internet connection to play
    • Currently unable to replay story missions
    • Missing key quality of life features

Like for me this is the most broken game I have ever played. I’m not saying it’s worse than Fallout 76 as I’m sure 76 is worse even though I haven’t played it, but for me personally this is the most broken game I have ever played. Hell I’ve played classic retro games that run better than this “Games as Service” garbage. After this I’m never ever buying another “Games as Service” ever again. Thank god I rented Anthem from Red Box and didn’t waste my money on it or I’d be VERY unhappy.

Good job EA, once again you ruin another great game and another once beloved studio. I hope you burn to the ground in the next 10 years, if you even last that long at the rate you’re going.

At first, you will feel like you play the best game of 2019. Then all the sudden you feel like you are a tester for EA and playing a game that is not even in a Beta stage.

    So short summary:
    - Graphics, just state of the art not more (seen better on PS4)
    - A lot of bugs and crashes (still not fixed!) - The iron-man like fly is very funny and is very cool - Loading time is okay when you have an SSD installed in PS4, otherwise it is a joke - Fighting/Shooting compared to Destiny 2 feels not so well - Menus straight out of hell Currently I’d recommend

Currently I’d recommend to spend your money for one of the many other coop shooter.

First of all, I was about to just skip Anthem, because of the bad critics. However, a friend came up with the idea to play it as squad of 4, team of friends. We played other looter shooter or coop games in general in our 4 men static party. So we bought Anthem for 20 Bucks on PS4. So we were about “just let’s have some fun.”.
And we tried to have it, but the point is that the game is still not finished, it is full of bugs and unstable. There was nearly no session where not one of us had a game crash or stuck in loading screen. Sometimes one of us was not able to join the squad. It happens several times that the “connection to server was lost” during some kind of boss fight. Funny thing, it happened 3 times at the same boss.
We don’t care for the story, looter shooter… the game tries to tell an epic story, but it isn’t at all. It is annoying to run from npc to npc in town just to get ready for the next mission. They should replace the town for a text-based menu.
Menu, next point. I don’t like the menu in this game. It is too bulky, slow, never had issues with menus in games, but this is just annoying.
We played it for about 30 hours. And we stopped for another, real AAA Looter Shooter.

Visually stunning and goodgame play. Drastically let down by constant disconnections, poor load times and multiplayer glitches. Ea likes to pour on the new content but seems to ignore the main issues with the game. Fix the errors and it might turn out great!

I can;t add anything else that already hasn't been said. I paid $80 for an incomplete game that took me a few hours to get through the content (If you don;t count the huge amounts of time sunk into the loading screen and crashes etc..)

F..ing disconnects all the time. F...ing loiding times. F...ing loot system. Give this game to a serious studio.

The gameplay is enjoyable, it’s definitely fun and pretty to look at. Sadly I (and many others) struggle to even log in due to the ‘Error retrieving Anthem Live data’ at the log in. I’ve spent 4 hours playing the game initially and probably equal that again, if not more trying to log in again after I’d closed it. Still not managed yet...

Why on earth did Bioware not include a 1080p60 or 1440p60 performance mode on X1X and pro?
This game feels like an outdated last gen title. When do devs understand that 25-30fps is unplayable garbage?
What's the point of having a pristine 4K image running like trash and blur it with ugly motion blur...

One thing that won't be "fixed in future": the ABYSMAL story and characters.

Listen, bugs don't bother me much. SJWs don't bother me at all. Loot problems and gameplay problems only bother me a little. What I care about in a **** BIOWARE game: story, characters, lore, choices, consequences. And these things are awful in Anthem. Absolutely awful. If you're complaining about bugs

If you're complaining about bugs you're sending the wrong message. Youre saying that story matters less than bugs, in a Bioware game. It doesn't.

If you liked KOTOR or Jade Empire or Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age, don't buy this. I knew it would be like this, the very second they announced they were going online with it.

I gave this game a 10 just to scale back the hate train that's been rolling on since release for no apparent reason that I can find. The game is fine, more than fine even. It is not a single player RPG that we are used from Bioware and maybe that is what people get bonkers about but it is not a 4.2 game. The game is super fun and I would hope people and all the YT "celebrities" would find some other kid to beat up so this game can gather a player base it deserves as now most people don't want to touch it because of all the hate it gets. Really disappointed in the gaming community right now. Expand

Flying is fun for a few minutes but gets old because the game is essentially a giant fetch quest. That's where the good ends.

Gun-play doesn't feel right, content is massively repetitive, horrible loading screens, boring map design, mediocre characters/"dialogue options" that don't amount to anything. Don't give me the "they'll fix it", that's a cop-out and isn't an excuse. This game

    5 problems this game has
1.very repetitious..... im tired of playing king of the hill or a collectathon mission
    2.audio cuts out
3.the game breaks itself depending on how you progress and the dialogue of people will be off as well
    4.faling through the map consistently
    5. The items are not rewarding as they give you know meaningful stats

Only good thing is the graphics. That's all this game has to offer. All it have is grinding, it have no interesting gameplay or story, lore, etc. It is an epic fail of BioWare and EA.

    Do not waste your money.

Bought this game June 2019, I played through the whole campaign and all of the strongholds. Missions all feel largely the same and uncreative. Graphics are decent but not mind blowing even on xbox one x. I would say that the game crashed back to the opening screen approximately 50% of the time after mission end leading to even longer load times to get back in than they already are. The story is uninteresting generic sci-fi loaded with overt and subliminal SJW propaganda (like most EA games) which you may or may not enjoy. I never felt the desire to customize my character at all after the initial build. The guns are generic as well, I found the LMG to be the only useful one. The character voice acting is good but it's hard to care about any of it and the choices made in the conversations do not seem to greatly impact anything. It is unclear what the motivation is to continue playing this after the credits role. It was a chore just to get that far. Expand

There’s an intriguing game buried somewhere in Anthem, lying broken beneath its loot and structural frustrations like chunks of fossilised dinosaur bone.

Even if I ignore all the bugs, glitches and disconnects I had, Anthem is still, by and large, a mediocre game. The lackluster story, loot system and gameplay make this game one to pass on. At least in its current state.

Though it’s one of best-looking titles on PS4, Anthem’s uninspired action and obsession with grindy tasks mean BioWare’s mechs aren’t on song. [Issue#160, p.83]
