Beneath a simple shell, there’s a playground of warfare that thoroughly detracts from boredom. And while it may not be a graphical marvel, 8-Bit Armies easily employs more fun factor than some of its graphically-demanding peers. If Petroglyph can build on its factions, I don’t see why it can’t renew the foundations of a neglected genre.

8 Bit Armies is a charming cartoon-like RTS game that offers a good challenge. It can be unfair at times due to the enemy having advanced tech, larger forces, and even nukes. Planning and strategizing is necessary, and fills you with pride when successful. Unfortunately it seems as if the multiplayer lobbies are empty.

Old school Real Time Strategy returns in the form of 8-Bit Armies and it absolutely delivers on the nostalgia factor. Simplistic visuals and gameplay really don't detract from the large amounts of fun to be had. Plenty of varied maps and multiple modes offer more than enough content. Online there aren't any competitors however, which makes you get bored relatively quickly. A fun snack, but that's about it.

At its core, 8-Bit Armies is a an imitator. A competent one, a throwback, with a few clever tricks of its own, but nothing wholly original or revolutionary. If you’re itching for another strategy game it will satisfy well enough, but it doesn’t feel essential.

Unfortunately 8-Bit Armies’ attempt at console strategy is simplified to the point that it outstays its welcome after a few hours. Whilst the campaign will keep you entertained for a few hours, the multiplayer is too empty to expect any more game time. Perhaps if you have someone who you can rely on to play against it might be worth picking up, but otherwise it’s probably not going to last long enough to be worth it.

8-Bit Armies does well to tackle the control and interface issues that have marred the genre's translation to consoles. There's some good quality of life considerations that make the bread and butter gameplay enjoyable, if lacking in options. There's plenty of online and offline content but the lack of variety between the factions could lead to a stale, short-lived experience.

Good idea but bad graphics, poor level design and nasty sound effects. Would any one actually like to make a decent game? I CAN help.

Dune, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun - I consider the most hot RTS in history. Red Alert 2 passed 100 times, it’s a pity that now it does not work very well on my Mac. What was my surprise when I saw the same scheme of the game, from the same developers, and even on the PS4. You are best! Thank you awesome! I didn’t regret spending 1000 rubles even once) The game most of all copies the mechanics of Tiberian Sun, with the exception of pumping units, well, besides this, in addition to the simplified graphics, some more points were simplified - the choice of units and buildings became poorer, there is no scenario and video, but that's all it doesn’t bother to enjoy the game) There are two warring factions with their buildings, units and even a superweapon, there is a scrum and network game mode, and most importantly the game process is exactly the same as in the good old Tiberian Sun Firestorm and Red Alert 2, the soundtrack is probably closer to Red Aler2 series. I note that in the version for PS4 there is a population limit of 100 units, I don’t know if it is on a PC, but before in such games I did not meet any restrictions at all. In general, I advise everyone!
