    8-Bit Armies may look like a goofy spoof of real-time strategy games yet it's an impressively in-depth and enjoyable game that both genre newcomers and veterans will appreciate. Plus, the controls are handled perfectly for console.

    All in all then and 8-Bit Armies does exactly what it sets out to do. It’s a love letter to the early RTS games, dressed up in very appealing retro graphics, but with the modern heart of a well defined combat system beating away in the depths.

    As it stands, 8-Bit armies is a decent overall package that gets held back tremendously by its awkward controls. As with anything, despite my displeasures, I did improve my game with time and effort, but at no point did playing ever start to feel natural. 8-Bit Armies is a game best played by the most passionate gamers, and even more specifically, ones that have a deep love for RTS games. It's fun art style makes it a standout member of its genre, that while not necessarily appropriate for all ages, is much more in line with something that older children and young adults may find more appealing than it's typically darker, more melancholy or even violent cousins.

    This game has a generous amount of content available and I can see this being a game I return back to time and time again. I was veryThis game has a generous amount of content available and I can see this being a game I return back to time and time again. I was very surprised how easy the game was to understand and by them making it like this it meant that the frustration levels were kept to a minimum. There are quite a few maps available for you to hone your skills on and trying each map out is gun because there’s plenty of variety on each map. Playing with friends is really fun and I was really pleased to see that they included a number of missions you can complete with your friends. Constructing is simple yet very effective and I had lots of fun designing and building different compounds. I did enjoy the easy to pick up and play style it is a little bit too basic in some areas. The presentation side of the game didn’t do much for me and nothing much really stood out in both the visuals and sound design. When played for long periods you notice that it lacks depth so it’s best played in short bursts. if you’re like me then sometimes you’ll often get frustrated with some RTS game’s because they can get far too complicated and in the end you end up becoming frustrated and your enjoyment levels dwindle quite quickly. Thankfully 8-Bit Armies isn’t like this and instead you get a game that’s simple to understand and even though it’s a little basic in some areas I still enjoyed constructing and working my way through the generous amount of content that’s available to you. I would however still recommend that you play this game in short bursts though because it does get repetetive quite quickly. You can however combat this repetetiveness though by playing with friends because when played this way for me the game truly shined and if you like playing with friends you’ll be pleased to know that there’s plenty of variety present in the missions and the maps you end up doing these missions on. This then means that 8-Bit Armies gets a solid recommendation from me and as far as the RTS genre goes this is without a doubt a very good addition to the genre.… Expand
