Uncharted 3 is a thoroughly entertaining and impressive game, it's just not as good as Uncharted 2. I'm sure the Sony marketing team will thumb me down. You are doing yourself a great injustice by believing that all of these 10s are actually legitimate. This game has arguably the best story out of all three installments by far. The story is nothing short of fantastic or beautiful. Otherwise, not much is to be said in terms of gameplay as it's nearly identical to the previous titles. Multiplayer is quite an enjoyable aspect, especially to those who are interested in the feature but moderately beats Uncharted 2.

I was incredibly let down by Uncharted 3, especially in light of the absolutely stellar reviews it has received from places like IGN and Destructoid. While there is no doubt that the game is beautiful and has some stunning set pieces, it has serious gameplay issues. Targeting with a weapon is like trying to precisely measure the position and momentum of a subatomic particle, i.e., it doesn't work. I can't even keep track of how many times I went through entire clips without hitting my target. What makes this worse is that it's what the game forces you to do more than anything else. The entire game follows a pattern: cut scene, wave of enemies, easy puzzle, wave of enemies, escape collapsing set piece, repeat. It gets really old, and frankly, boring (so maybe it's a good thing that the game is noticeably shorter than Uncharted 2). Another aspect of Uncharted 3 that frustrated me immensely was that it forces you to use the melee system (which takes way too long) to fight off the armored "heavies" which appear way too frequently and are essentially immune to firearms while 6 guys with rocket launchers andor sniper rifles are pumping me full of rounds. It's absolutely maddening. Now, I typically play games for the story, and I could have gotten past these serious issues if the story for Uncharted 3 had really grabbed me (I expected that it would based on the reviews I read), but in reality, it was predictable, shallow, and boring. Drake is more of a caricature than ever. We don't learn anything about his motivations. Sure, the question is brought up a few times, but we never get a straight answer. For me, the story was completely forgettable. I can't really comment on the multiplayer because I didn't play it at all. I'm not big on multiplayer, and while I played in the beta, I didn't really get into it. The truth is, as much as it saddens me, as soon as the credits rolled on Uncharted 3, I got online and arranged to sell it back to Amazon. I loved Uncharted 2, and I wanted to love Uncharted 3 it simply doesn't compare to its predecessor. Expand

Uncharted 3 is a great game, it is a must play for 2011. The plot is always as great as ever and the action as well but the shining point is the relationship between Drake and his mentor Sully, Uncharted 3 takes character relationships so well that you will actually care about the characters, that is how well the story is told and it in a way trumps Uncharted 2's story. The graphics are plain amazing with amazing set pieces and I find it cool that Drake has a few new animations that make it seem so realistic that just looking at it makes you go "Whooah!". The multiplayer is great too, it was good in Uncharted 2 but it got a revamp in Uncharted 3 to a good effect. The voice acting and character animations are great as always, again setting the bar for the PS3 as it always had. While there is a lot of good stuff there are sadly some flaws and that is in gameplay. The melee combat has been improved drastically so that is much funner and effective to use but then the controls are slightly clunky and gunplay becomes a little harder in part due to the new animations in Drake which makes the gunfights a bit more difficult but platforming is improved as well so it's good and swimming controls are frustrating too. Overall, Uncharted 3 is a great game. There is the control skirmishes but they don't hurt the overall experience too much. The game is one of the best of 2011 and the second best in the series to Uncharted 2. Did I play the same game that all these other guys played that gave this **** game a 10? Really people come on! There was nothing new or innovative about this game. It was actually worse than the first two! The second uncharted was amazing and is still one of my favorites, but if you dont have the ability to upstage your predecessor than you need to give it a rest. My main issues with this game.....

Way to short and the story was boring. I stopped paying attention to it a fourth of the way in.

Way to much cinematic material. I felt like half the time you were just watching a movie instead of playing an actual game. The scenes where you do actually get to control your character are nothing amazing and easily forgettable.

Absolutly nothing new! Basically the same gameplay as the second one but worse.... Here is why....

They made the AI's run up on you like they have a death wish. Extremely frustrating when your trying to take cover from rocket blasts, sniper, and gun fire. I dont remember the first two games doing that stupid ****

In the parts where you could go stealth, you might as well just go out with guns blazing because it is almost impossible to do it without being spotted. This is do to the way the terrain was set up and the positioning of the AI's. When you DO get spotted the game punishs you for it with all kinds of body armor AI's, these are the guys that you have to shoot ten times in the face to bring them down. Also, extremely frustrating.

I couldnt believe how many times this game pissed me off while playing where I wanted to smash my controller to bits and throw my PS3 out the window. It's a good thing I didnt let this game get the best of me.

    But to sum this up....
This could of been an amazing triology like the GOD OF WAR SERIES, but unfortunatly it seems obvious that this game was lazily done and was just thrown out to market to make an easy buck. This game does NOT deserve the rating it got. But it doesnt matter what is said in a review. You will still go out and buy it and maybe you will be extermely dissapointed like me or maybe you will love it. But it is an unfortunate thing that the developers got away with putting out crap like Uncharted 3 to what could of been an amazing triology.

I bought Uncharted 3 on release date and played through the campaign first, as I do with all games. The campaign had a decent story line. Some of the puzzles didn't seem well thought out and one in particular felt clunky, like Drake wasn't going where I wanted him to go or do what I wanted. I read a review that said Drake walks like a drunken sailor in some parts and i noticed the same thing. Particularly annoying is that, for some reason, the devs created an OCD Drake that feels compelled to touch every wall as he passes by. Why? It seemed contrived as if they wanted to give him a personality tick that would make him seem more "real." But it was just real annoying. I mean even during chases, Drake has to stick out his had and touch walls. He didn't do that in Uncharted 1 or 2, so why does he suddenly have this OCD compulsion to touch walls as he walks by. Please get rid of that in UC4. However, in every other aspect, the game excels. The campaign was just the right length, not overacted, good pacing from scene to scene, good variety of weapons, good fights, and beautiful graphics. Some scenes were visually stunning, like the airplane scene and the desert scene. I gotta say the campaign was a little too easy and everyone seems to be platinum-ing it in days. Probably the easiest platinum I've ever achieved. But the multiplayer is where this game shines. The multiplayer is actually better than Uncharted 2, which is a great accomplishment by the developers. The maps are good and diverse and some have changing environments. For example, you can be in a match, and suddenly there is a blinding dust storm and you play through it. I also like the buddy system where you are paired with another player, which has advantages. I also like the powerplay aspect which helps even out the odds between mismatched teams. Uncharted 3 has a solid campaign and a stellar multiplayer that no other game out there can beat. Way to go Naughty Dog. Expand

The previous mistakes Naughty Dog had made in the inclusion of the cliche supernatural enemies has been done far better this time around, as it arises to be slightly ambiguous and allowing to point fingers at the enemies existence. This element has been one of the major drawbacks to the previous games in the series, and ambiguity has helped this third installment from falling into the same hole. Apart from this the narrative is far more interesting, involving flashbacks, interesting dream sequences, with clear inspirations from classic masterpieces in cinema like Lawrence of Arabia. The action is packed, and the rhythm is brilliant. Generally most single player experiences lose me half way, but here I played the game from start to finish in a single sitting. Mind you the game is short, but great things always come to an end quickly, but are forever remembered. This game is not only the best in the series, but is the best Playstation 3 game ever made. I believe the whole middle half of this game continually keeps surprising. They keep throwing more and more on you, and the game just doesn't let down. From battling on boats, to catching a plane, to landing in the desert, the game will chain you to the moments. Also don't worry about the controls or the gameplay, it's as fluid as ever and far superior to the zero recoil and lack of muzzle climb you'd find in the unrealistic interpretations during the last installments. Then there's multi-player, and expect to be playing this one a whole lot longer than the last due to the in depth progression system made to keep up with the times, and the awesome assortment of possible load-outs minus game breaking perks like classic COD stopping power. In end you'll be asking yourself do I go with weapon expert or fleet foot? That will be one of the many hard choices you will have playing this game, what won't be a hard choice however, will be deciding on whether to pick up this game. Highly Recommended Expand

The frame rate never dropped no matter what was going on below 60 fps. The sand was without a doubt, the best effects i have ever seen in a video game. From clinging to Drake's hair, to falling down slopes when he walked on the edge. The water was even better than ever, it acted as if it was real; same with the fire. The fire moved as though Naughty Dog programmed oxygen or something to eat up wood. The gameplay was better than anything i have ever seen. Hand to hand fighting was actually fun, and not boring like the first two where you would rather shoot instead. The game moved with epic set pieces in the most random places and in ways without disrupting what was going on. Example: you would be fighting and something would explode and the whole level would tilt and the environment would react to what would happen in real life. The gun-play is better than ever also. It is more accurate than before. allowing you to see your enemies further, the guns act very real for a third person shooter. The story as the back-cover summary says on the case, details around the relationship between Nathan and Sullivan, this time. it's not so much treasure questing this time around. The game tells the story of everything about them as a son and father sort of way. You find things out about Nathan that makes you wonder about future games. With twists in the story randomly there are very emotional parts that can bring tears to your eyes just watching. The voice acting is top notch, very few games reach this level of awesomeness. The replay value is very high, until you beat story mode. The online isn't all that as usual, but that's not stopping me from keeping it to replay it again one day. This is one game that should be labeled game of the decade. From beginning to end. It was non-stop heart racing action that ends in a surprising and satisfying way. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception only for PlayStation 3 THE GREATEST GAME EVER. And yes i do also have an Xbox 360 and have played nearly every big game on it. This beats all Expand

Uncharted 3 doesn't disappoint, with a exciting story, an enjoyable multiplayer and arguably the best graphics out of any game. However, after a while you run out of things to do, especially in Single-Player, but nonetheless, a must-buy for any PS3 owner.

I was really hoping Uncharted 3 would be another amazing game in the series. Certainly Naughty Dog didn't disappoint with their fit and polish here, but the story, OMG the story sucked. It was written as an afterthought here. Nothing was resolved and the ending was anticlimactic. Zzzz.... Here's hoping Uncharted 4 does better with the story.

To start the storyline is wonderful, the games play is great, and the on line play is enjoying. Now like I said it is a awesome game in an even better series of games. People are getting caught up comparing it to Uncharted 2 (which in my opinion is greatest game ever made) and of course by comparing it to that it will receive a lower score. You need to look at this game only and not the others in the series and by doing that it will receive a 10/10. I even starting thinking of this game and ranking it lower then it should be. I realized that I was comparing it to UC 1 and UC 2. Once I thought of the game play of UC 3, I then realized that I need to review the game not the series. Trust me, buy the game you will not be disappointed! It does start off a little slower then the others, but it is to create the storyline. If I do have one complaint in the game it would be the final boss fight. There is no long fight sequence in the final fight like the other games, but it is a cool scenario and ending that you are in. I cannot wait for more games in the franchise and to see the Uncharted series continue to grow will be great! Expand

I actually had a more enjoyable time playing through Uncharted 2, but Uncharted 3 is an excellent sequel to Naughty Dog's best work to date. Everything here is excellent, except the aiming, which has been discussed here and elsewhere on the web. The story was well done, well paced, and wonderfully presented. Somehow ND squeezed an extra bit of graphical umph out of the PS3 for this one.

When I bought Uncharted 2, I played it and its multiplayer for about a year. The story, the set pieces, the music, the voice acting, the characters, the sound effects were fantastic. Gameplay had its share of small tweaks required, but it was assured that with a company like Naughty Dog, the little bits here and there would be fixed in time for this third release.

The story is lacklustre, with one of the most anti-climactic endings of all time. The controls are floaty compared to UC2, the sound effects lack the same "oomph" factor, the voice acting is great as always, the music is rousing.

The shooting bits were great - there was much more in the way of environments to really vary how a player approaches a fight with twenty different guys shooting at you at once. I almost wish there was more of these. The introduction of at least 5 or 6 different weapons was a pleasant sight. As was the removal of the FAL, replaced by the G-MAL. There were just as many stealth parts, but they were far more difficult than in the last game. But in some places felt cheap. Even in parts where I knew I was being silent, I was still caught somehow. The cover system hasn't been resolved. There are still several times when I was trying to cover into a wall where it instead rolled. Overall, a very average game. But a big disappointment considering UC2.

A step down from Uncharted 2. While overall the game is good, the controls are jumpy and at times the enemies seem to be unaffected by bullets which leads to a lot of frustrating moments. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. And so, the game is passed. I got the game very much. Let's start with the pluses and advantages of the game.
Compared with the second part was much better graphics, animations, just an excellent, even rumpled clothes on the characters walking. Level design at an altitude of forests and beautiful cities I have not seen even a bare desert looks terrific, with pleasure on her wandering. Level design is made in the game at the highest level of the huge and beautiful, interesting caves. Cinematic in the game is made with more quality, even film can not shoot enough to make up a large chunk of all videos from the game. And most importantly, the plot. In the third part, he has become a major component of the game, and here the history of the past characters and secrets.
And now about the cons, they unfortunately are.
The biggest minus for me, which I did as I can not forgive the developers, this is an artificial intelligence of enemies. Or rather complete lack of intelligence. Home and the only tactic the enemy, it's going to break any means at Drake, through the bullets, grenades through, but the main goal of the enemy to come into focus and shoot! They did not on that they can not. The same intelligence is absent and teammates. Basically, they just stand and comment on, or what is happening, or the death of Drake. And so they killed someone, it's just a holiday. A bit repetitive enemies, but not normal, that regularly try to kill Drake and burly, with whom we must fight in close quarters. Of course it was very interesting when the fight was so husky in the bar or on the plane, but when they are found in almost every chapter, it begins to pall. Well, not without its monsters, big hairy gorilla and blue mutants. It is true there were demons, but a huge thanks to developers that they were not long, but not the whole ending of the game. There were technical flaws. Enemies often pass through walls or objects, Drake did not doprygival or not enough for benches. There is yet another disappointment for me. Why is it now a lot of action and too little jumps, acrobatics, rock climbing and adventure.
That's only because the enemy AI and I lowered the score of the game, other shortcomings, I can forgive, but for a great multiplayer and out of respect for the developers for such an incredible game, I would add one point to the total assessment.
As a result, 10 points, the game deserves it.

In fact, I consider Uncharted 2 to be the best video game ever made, when you take everything into account (great levels, the best production values ever in a game, engaging characters, great story, etc). I was a bit skeptical as to whether Uncharted 3 would be able to surpass U2 ever since I began seeing trailers for the game, showing what looked to be a drab and incredibly boring desert, and a villain just as boring. Sadly, my initial feelings were correct. U3 just doesn't even come close to the magic I felt when playing U2. The story is just not very good. There are too many frustrating levels, such as the early chase through Cartagena as a young Drake that lead to multiple "deaths" due to the floaty controls making you get stuck if you make even the slightest micrometer of an error. At least half of the levels are just boring. They did improve the melee combat quite a bit, but that isn't enough to make up for the rest. Production values in the game series continue to be top notch, and it was nice seeing the characters again - however there is nowhere near enough Elena for my tastes, or Chloe for that matter. In a holiday game season stock full with big releases, U3 was still the one I was looking forward to the most, however I found that I was having to force myself to play through it, as I just didn't really care about it. When I finally made it to the ending, it was very anticlimactic, and I was just glad it was finally over. This is incredibly disappointing, considering the high regard I hold for U2 - when that game came to an end, I was very sad - I wanted more, for it to keep going. The hopes I held for multiplayer (at least for the co-op, that is) were quickly dashed as well. Competitive multiplayer in U2 was the one weak spot - the control scheme just does not lend itself to precise shooting and fun matches. Sad to say, it is still the same - competitive multiplayer is a complete mess. Poor shooting mechanics and controls lead it to be a crap shoot as to who is going to win when you come upon an enemy. The co-op multiplayer in U2 fared much better, and was incredibly addictive. It was probably the 2nd most played "shooter" game for me, behind the amazing Battlefield: Bad Company 2. However, in U3, Naughty Dog has seen fit to ruin the co-op multiplayer mode. Having to constantly change between Survival, Gold Rush and Siege is a game breaker for me. Taken on their own, they are fine, but I do not want to be forced into playing all 3 types in one match. With no ability to choose a Survival Only, or Gold Rush Only match, this is just unforgiveable. Naughty Dog has also ramped up the difficulty in Arena mode as well. No longer can you just come up behind an ally that is being choked, and quickly dispatch the choker. Now, he is armored enough that you have to shoot him for about 15 seconds just to loosen him up enough to kill him. Forget about trying to punch him off - that takes way too long. Thankfully, the time frame you have before being choked out has increased quite a bit, giving your allies enough time to come to your aid, assuming they are close by. Enemies are smarter, and better armored. Gone are the big, hulking Gatling Gun soldiers - they have been replaced by a faster, better maneuvering giant in lighter armor, carrying a light machine gun that can still lay waste to you easily. The Gatling Gunners weren't that bad, considering how slow they were. Now that this new threat moves quicker, it leads to a lot more trouble for you. Co-Op Adventure Mode is back as well, and there really wasn't any change in this - it has 5 "chapters" with a very minor storyline to it, and a decent amount of challenge to it. Overall, U3 is the worst of the series, in my opinion, as far as the single-player mode goes. Both the original Uncharted, and U2, had a much more engaging story and levels/areas. The only thing U3 has going for it above the other two is the improved melee combat. And U3 multiplayer is a shade of its former self, when compared to U2. I really really wanted this game to be my pick for Game of the Year, but it just isn't even close. In a year of so many high profile games, I'm surprised at how many have been utter disappointments (U3, Batman: Arkham City, and Modern Warfare 3 all were very overhyped, and didn't come close to meeting expectations). As much as I love the Uncharted series, U3 doesn't deserve Game of the Year that award is going to Battlefield 3, in my opinion. I do think U3 is worth playing, just to enjoy the incredibly production values and see just how voice acting and cutscenes should be done....the problem is, is the game worth the $60+ price for it? Sadly enough, I don't think so. Try and find it at a reduced price, or rent the game. This game is only mildy recommended, at best. Expand

Also, all's everyone ever talks about is its graphics, which honestly, with such a linear game of course they can put the juice towards that and they are actually not even that great. Battlefield 3 and Skyrim looks just as good if not MUCH better than this game, so you should most definitely get those instead for a better multiplayer / singleplayer experience depending on what you are looking for.

Uncharted 3 is simply put an AMAZING game. In fact, I love it so much I will be so happy if they announce an Uncharted 4! This game has upgraded everything from the second game and is worth every single penny of the asking price. A must own game for any PS3 owner. Nathan Drake kicks Indiana Jones' ass

Great game. Graphics and sound are top notch, although UC2's story was a bit better, some of the characters in the game seem forced into it since it's a sequal, but it's still entertaining. Only knock on it is the controls don't seem as smooth as UC2, I feel like I'm fighting my character sometimes to do what I want them to do. That's the only thing that stopped me from giving it a 10.

The game is a must have for series fans, and great for those new to the Uncharted world. A word of caution, if you haven't played the first two, you will want to catch up before diving in head first.

Uncharted 3 is the greatest ps3 game I have ever played. It is awesome in so many ways. The graphics are so real it look like your watching a movie. The weapons and combat make the gameplay feel real. I enjoy how naughty dog allowed gamers to watch a clip then all the sudden your falling down a hill. It kept the game interesting from beginning to end,

I loved the first game, the second more, it really pushed the envelope in story telling, character development and an affection for the characters usually lacking in the wooden one dimensional people that normally populate video game land. Where 2 was a jaw dropping kick up the arschenholler for most developers, I feel that 3 does'nt quite hit the same high tide mark. I loved the steady build of London and the excellent Drake as a youth levels. Something didnt quite just click. The graphics as to be expected of Naughty Dog were exceptional, but the usually well fleshed out enemies were missing. The Helen Mirren baddie wasnt explained enough, nor her underling. Though he looked suspiciously like the English bloke from 2. For all the spectacle, and it was spectacular, I felt that some of the heart was missing. Cutter, who was great, disappeared in the second act along with Chloe. Elena barely made an entrance. It seemed that in the early part of the game, puzzles were abundant and a definate refinement over previous efforts, but beyond that they disappeared totally. Gunplay was a bit wonky with the cover mechanic being hit and miss at best. Also the fact that enemies know where you are, even if they cant have possibly seen you in cover, but pour masses of fire onto you anyway was a bit lame. It also felt like it was all over a bit to soon, and lacked a real climax ( the escape from the collapsing city was was awesome visually) it just lacked a bit of occasion as i didnt really care about the baddies or know enough about them. Overall a good entry but not what i was hoping for after the second one. Expand

The newly added melee system does a great job of complimenting gun combat and combat in general now is more challenging, due to more aggressive enemies. There are more stealth parts to the game but unfortunately, it's rather difficult to clear an area without being seen. The story is another tale of treasuring hunting but this time, focuses more on Drake and the lovable Sully, including bits of their past. But what unfortunately, ND felt it necessary to tweak the aiming system from previous game and it simply doesn't feel as smooth as the previous games. It takes quite a bit of time to get used to. And many of the events become a bit to cliched, like crumbling floors and falling ladders. Overall, this is a great game but it falls just short of the perfectly paced Uncharted 2. Multiplayer, however, is the highlight in this game. It's been significantly improved since the last game and is simply more fun so the game will keep you busy for months after you finish the single player mode. Expand

To summarise, nothing in Uncharted 3 is done better than any of the previous game except for the graphics for obvious reasons but graphics do not maketh the game. Possibly the multiplayer too but I don't really care about that. Uncharted for me has always been about cinematic single player. Without having spoilers, the story is worse than both previous Uncharted games as many plot threads remain unresolved and the game ends on one of the biggest anti-climaxes I have ever seen in a game. The main villain managed to be even more boring than Lazarovic which I kinda thought amazing because he was pretty generic. The pacing is worse than both games and it will take nearly a couple of hours before you even get to shoot anything which in a 6.5 hour game (yes, shorter than both previous games) is pretty awful. The shooting appears to have changed for the worse being incredibly laggy and making long distance combat nearly impossible. It's quite nasty having to shoot the armoured guys walking towards you when you have to get numerous headshots to take down one of them and the game won't let you aim properly. Speaking of, the game continuously likes to spam these guys at you as well as guys with sniper rifles or rocket launchers where they were few and far between in the original games to get you to change your strategy a little. The change means that often you deaths are the result of having 3 guys firing rocket launchers right at you the moment you poke your head around a corner.

Melee combat takes far too long to beat people and the game seems to be reluctant to let you get out of melee mode with the result that you quickly get shot dead because you couldn't run away.

It should be mentioned however that the visuals are excellent and the music is very good at getting your heart racing when doing a cinematic move.

Overall I was extremely disappointed with Uncharted 3. My experience was mostly made of cheap deaths and a story that failed to soften the blow. I would have returned it but because of the online pass I wouldn't have been able to get all my money back. Seeing as how the majority of people like it, it may be enjoyed by you but there's the risk you may be disappointed like I was. Buy with caution.

The characterisations by the actors is second to none and even though this tall-tale takes you to fantastical places and events, the script is never once unbelievable. You never feel like an outsider. If anything, you'll feel right at home, ensconced in the constant drama of this loveable cast of returning reprobates and reprehensible villains. [Dec 2011, p60]
