Aug 18, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 boasts a constant feeling of progression through the entire game, and though the leveling has a new, and somewhat particular, skill-based development, the complete RPG package can be found within this wholehearted sequel.
-
Aug 17, 2014It feels like a big expansion, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. Actually, it's one of those games RPG fans cannot miss.
-
Pelit (Finland)Nov 15, 2014A Japanese style RPG with fast'n'furious real-time combat. There's a lot of stuff to do and nothing deviates too much from the tried and tested Tales of -formula. Maybe it should, though. [Nov 2014]

Sep 1, 2014Thanks to a radical change of atmosphere and to a general revamp of the game mechanics, Tales of Xillia 2 is a very good JRPG, much better than what the limited scope of the production would suggest.
-
Aug 19, 2014Follow up of one of the best JRPGs released exclusively for PS3. Almost as good as the original.
-
Aug 18, 2014A fluid combat gameplay meets a great character progression system. The story does not reach the quality of the first episode, but the adventure is long and full of quests.
-
Sep 29, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 had the potential to be one of the best games in the franchise. While it hits many notes perfectly, it also gets some things terribly wrong.
-
Aug 24, 2014I would recommend Tales of Xillia 2 to any Tales or JRPG fan.
-
Aug 19, 2014Playing Tales of Xillia 2 is like go to the movies and watching a sequel that has all you want one more time on screen. If you enjoyed the first journey through Rieze Maxia, you'll love to find out what happened with Jude, with Milla and the rest of the crew. An improved combat system, more side-quests and a better story, its a shame the Debt system ruins this a little, but in general, a great way of closing the whole journey we begun just one year ago.
-
Aug 18, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 arrives as a worthy sequel. However, quite a repetitive unfolding of the plot and some senseless plot twists leave a strange sensation once you end the game. That being said, it's recommendable to any RPG fan.
-
Sep 15, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 is without any doubt a very good JRPG that will delight fans of the series but, like many of the others before; it’s a shame than it cannot reach higher.
-
Sep 15, 2014A huge improvement over the original with a better, well-paced and engaging story, refined battle and upgrade system and excellent new musical tracks. It does everything sequels is supposed to do; build on the original and improve. If you can look past the debt system and disgusting reuse of assets you’ll find yourself engrossed in this fast-paced JRPG for hours on end.
-
Sep 10, 2014For all my quibbles regarding Tales of Xillia 2 from a general design standpoint, it still manages to shake up the series’ formula in the right ways.
-
Sep 4, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 is a very good game, but it is definitely not better than the original.
-
Aug 28, 2014Several unnecessary complexities may hold the sequel back for some, but the strong story, engaging battle system, and brilliant character development should appeal to both casual and hardcore JRPG fans alike.
-
Aug 28, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 is more like an expansion than a true sequel: there are tons of things to do, but you will do them in the very same environments and dungeons explored last year, listening at the same music and fighting with the same spells and artes. And that's totally fine, because battles are a blast: too bad they serve a mess of a plot which at least ends on a high note after forty hours of nonsensical gibberish and morally questionable choices.
-
Aug 27, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 for the PlayStation 3 is a great sequel to Tales of Xillia, with a better story that has a more mysterious vibe than the first one, triggering you to continue playing until the end. The battle system has gotten more depth with the new weapon weaknesses, but also gained some flaws with an overpowered protagonist and a somewhat confusing leveling system.
-
Aug 26, 2014Bandai Namco should be commended for taking an already good RPG in Tales of Xillia and expanding on that storyline in a way that pays respect to the original and builds so much on top of it. It is hard to make a sequel that is worth of the original and Tales of Xillia 2 does just that.
-
Aug 24, 2014This is an easy recommendation for anyone that has already played through Tales of Xillia and yet another good reason to force you to if you haven’t yet.
-
Aug 22, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 could have represented a net improvement of its predecessor in every field, but some bad choices in game design make it a title only marginally better than that which preceded it.
-
Aug 22, 2014Still, even with all its rather glaring flaws, it’s still well worth checking out. That’s especially so for the fans of the original, who will surely love all the bits of fan service Xilla 2 has to offer.
-
Aug 18, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 is a great JRPG with a few big issues. The silent main character is an interesting addiction in term of pure role playing, but it affects the whole gameplay ruining the typical narrative of the Tales Of series. The awful debit system is the worst design element of the game. If you'll be able to pass through these elements you'll find in Xillia 2 a great JRPG with a interesting and quite mature storyline.
-
Aug 18, 2014A sound JRPG, Tales of Xillia 2 offers a fun yet deep battle system, a great story with tons of optional narrative, and plenty of in-game background information that makes it worth playing even if you didn’t play the original game.
-
Aug 15, 2014It's rare for a great JRPG to get a direct sequel that fully embraces what the original was all about. Tales fans -- and fans of the original Xillia, in particular -- shouldn't let this one slip away.
-
Sep 1, 2014It wasn’t my favorite Tales of experience, but it certainly wasn’t the worst, and to its credit it was really all I could ask of a sequel.
-
Sep 21, 2014Rough around the edges, but a charming sequel nonetheless
-
Aug 18, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 has its flaws, but it also has plenty of what fans of the series love: Challenging battles, great character interactions, and a story full of twists. I'm still continually lured in by the series, I just wish this entry felt like more than a sideways step.
-
Power UnlimitedAug 28, 2014Gameplay wise this might be one of the best JRPGs in years. Too bad the rest of the game is cobbled together with re-used assets, enemies and characters from its predecessor. And the repetitious level grinding doesn’t help either. [Sep 2014, p.59]
-
Aug 22, 2014This is more remake then sequel. But since the original was an exceptional JRPG Tales of Xilia 2 still offers solid entertainment value.
-
Aug 18, 2014While it’s lacking on the exploration end, Xillia 2 boasts a strong story component and combat system to deliver another solid RPG.
-
CD-ActionOct 24, 2014I haven’t seen such an interesting combat system in any other jRPG game. Who would’ve thought that I would await the next game of the Tales series more eagerly than the next Final Fantasy? [Nov 2014, p.72]
-
Sep 16, 2014A nice improvement on the previous game, definitely in the story and combat departments. If it weren't for a couple of boring parts, it might have received a much higher score. The lack of Japanese voice-acting isn't exactly a plus either.
-
Sep 13, 2014Tales of Xillia 2 combines the best of eastern and western cultures and consolidates itself as an RPG that appeals to hardcore fans of the series, thanks to its compelling story, attractive combat system, the decision-making mechanics and its anime-like aesthetics.
