I really felt like I had to react and write a review on this game after reading all the comments because I think Risen 3: Titan Lords (Adventure - Action - RPG - Pirate - Gothic game) is underrated. I know and agree that it is not perfect and will explain why bellow but it certainly is not mediocre or horrible.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE GAME:
First, this is an open world and it's quite BIG, night and day time, numerous areas to explore, many hours of gameplay, which is already a very good start for me. There is an interesting story, characters and dialogue are pretty funny and entertaining. Many quests to do, items to collect, abilities and magic powers to upgrade like we expect a real Adventure and Action RPG game to be! The music is epic and has a cool vibe that I love, making it a more enjoyable experience.
You can teleport, travel from one Island to another by boat, make allies and also have a companion of your choice that will help you during battles and regenerate your health, which is very practical since the battles are kind of rough and you may die often if not careful enough. Though when you start understanding how to fight beasts and monsters, you finally realize that dodging is super important and you might want to save regularly as the game itself says. The fact that we are allowed to save at anytime is a huge plus and all games should have that option in my opinion.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN IMPROVED:
Unfortunately, graphics are not the best, most characters don't look good and they move awkwardly, especially when speaking. Bad camera angles often occur during dialogue, showing either a wall or a non sensical view seeing through plants, grass, furniture, characters, environment and so on... Noticeable flickering and flashing texture issues are all over the place. You may think "what the **** did the developers smoke at work?" lol... Unfortunately, the frame rate seems to rush like it did in Risen 2, you may have a weird feeling when walking around. By chance we get used to this after a while.
Other important and unpleasant aspects, it is possible to get atttacked by enemies while talking to NPCs, which I really don't think should happen. Sometimes companions can disappear and surprisingly respawn after a long time. They can even die and never come back if the character runs fast or gets away from the battle.
CONCLUSION:
People that only played a few hours may have got the impression that the combat system sucks because they are not aware of what skills they can develop or improve and be annoyed that the character is very weak. They probably will end up having a bad opinion of the game and stop playing. That being said, the ones that are truly patient will be rewarded and discover that there is so much more to Risen 3 than what they think. Just give it a chance and you will see...
I wish it had a better frame rate and that the visuals, camera angles and animation could have been more polished as it looks pretty bad at times. I know that they are supposed to release a better ''Enhanced'' version for the PS4 in late August 2015. Having played the PC version myself, which is gamepad compatible, I was very impressed to see how much difference there is. All visuals are a lot more polished and most of the bugs I mentioned previously do not happen. I would even rate the game 8.5 out of 10.
Concerning the PS3 version, overall it's decent, still playable and enjoyable. Quite frankly, there are many many hours to spend on this game and the more I play, the more I fall in love with it. That being said, I highly reccomend that you get the PC version instead or wait for the PS4 release. For all these reasons, I think Risen 3 on PS3 deserves a 6 out of 10.… Expand
