After Resident evil 4, the series started to focus on action and I really felt it in this game. The story was good. Mechanics, gameplay, graphics were very nice for its time. I can't wait for the remake. I hope it comes out soon.

Oh how far this franchise has fallen since Resident Evil 2. This game starts off pretty strong, and couch co-op is great, but it quickly gets worse and worse the longer you play. By the last boss the game has degraded into absolute trash.

Just like every RE game, it lacks in the story department. However, it makes up for this with brilliant co-op gameplay, a solid upgrade system, and the ability to share supply items with the person you're playing with. The replay value is very high as you can carry over the weapons you were in the process of upgrading in the first game.

Not bringing up the "classic vs new" Resident Evil fight, but this is a very action packed game, which gets you in the trouble we ask for in every one of the series. Some bosses are kind of a dumb transformation, but the scenario and the journey is pretty enjoyable to me. Some say it is cliche, I say if it amuses me, I will play with will.

I guess everybody likes RE5 now? I don't care, the game was bad when it came out now and it hasn't aged any better, it's still just a worse RE4.

Resident Evil 5 is what happens when you take Resident Evil 4, take away what made that game good. and just model swap Leon for Chris.

The story is as forgettable as the game is piss coloured. After S.T.A.R.S went **** up after The Spencer Manion incident, Chris co-founded the BSAA, a task force dedicated to wiping out Bio-Terrorism, he must now go to Africa with his new partner Sheva Alomar to... do a thing, I forgot, because that's exactly where the story loses any and all intrigue, something to do with the Uroboros virus which is just Las Plagas recycled, it doesn't matter. The game also acts as the conclusion to the Wesker storyline started all the way back in RE1, and his scenes are the only good part about this game. as shown in that spin off game I hate, Wesker survived the Spencer Mansion incident and got cool super powers, why? How? I don't know, I didn't finish it, because I really didn't like that game... Code Veronica, I'm talking about Code Veronica. Jill is here too, in her worst appearance ever, I do not care for blonde Jill, she looks like a generic attractive lady in a 2010's video game, I do not like her here. And that's kind of it, Josh is cool too, hope he comes back in RE9.

Gameplay wise, it's Resident Evil 4 again, so it's good, but where RE4 used it's clunky and limited movement to instill fear in the player in an otherwise campy action flick of a game, RE5 just feels annoying and clunky, adding to that is of course your AI partner.

I'm going to write a review on RE4 so I'm kinda saving this for that, but real quick, Ashley Graham is a good addition to RE4, y'all are just bad at video games. Ashley is fine if you just take care of her, put her into the bins when going into a fight, that's all you gotta do. Your AI Partner in RE5 on the other hand, is bad, they use ammo and herbs, they aren't locked to your back like Ash is, and so can easily get in your way, and thought they do duck down if you aim in the direction, because the AI is being more proactive in gunfights, it takes them a second to do it, unlike Ashley, who hops down immediately, my point is, YOU GUYS ARE TOO MEAN TO ASHLEY... ok thank you, just needed to get that off my chest.

There's a lot of co-op features and I hear they're fun, but... who's gonna play Resident Evil 5 with me in 2021?

Overall, RE5 is fine, the story when taken on its own, is fun enough, the final act is pretty good, focusing on Chris and Wesker's relationship since RE1 and CV, the final boss is pretty cool, and Chris punching that boulder will never not be funny to me, so at the end of the day, I can't hate the game, and writing about it has made me rethink some things, and it's definitely not as bad as I remember it being, however I still consider it a dark spot in the series history along with RE6. Definitely a game worth playing with some friends and some beer.

The controls and gameplay in general are not player-friendly whatsoever. I cannot yet understand how on earth the characters cannot move while shooting; it is unnatural and, more importantly, a significant negative aspect in gameplay. Besides, I find the puzzles pointless and artificial, created just for the sake of including puzzles. I frankly do not like playing RE 5.

The storyline is not particularly interesting either. They could have written an attractive horror script, but, maybe fearful of repeating the same cliché again, they tried to change the franchise drastically. The result is evident now that Resident Evil 7 was launched and highly rated.

I am rating the game objectively. If I did it following my heart, I would give it less than a 5.

Controls are awkward, in all configurations I've tried. I can live with having to stop to shoot, like with all previous RE games. But it seems to take an age to stop, aim and shoot. It's like there are too many frames of animation. Also actions like taking out and swiping the knife, and picking up items all seem to take too long in the heat of battle. It's also too common that a foe, like the "dogs" get under your feet or to your side, and it's actually difficult to aim at them. An auto aim like in GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption, for example, would really help.
Basically, the game throws enemies at you at a rate of an all action shoot em up, but makes you suffer through dated survival horror controls. It makes for a frustrating experience where you have to constantly run away and turn and shoot back. A duck-for-cover action is also missing.

I didn't love the gold-collecting mechanic of RE4, but it least it sort of made sense in areas like the castle and churches. There's far too much of it in RE5, everywhere, and it just feels like a chore, as does all the box breaking.
The truck mounted machine gun sequences are dull and just too similar to Medal of Honour or Call of Duty. Not subtle and a bit out of character for the series.

The Co-op character doesn't add much to the experience. She isn't as bad as some make out, in terms of being plain unhelpful, but I find her a chore and a distraction not a fun addition.

The graphics are detailed and the characters and enemies look quite realistic. However, aside from HD they are not a major step up in quality from Resident Evil 4, or particularly impressive in relation to other PS3 titles. In fact the HD Remake of RE is more visually appealing in my view, albeit with fixed backgrounds.

To its credit, the enemies are suitably gruesome and varied, and there are some very memorable scenes and set pieces- like the part in the mines where you carry a lantern and enemies come out of the dark for example. Sound effects are great. Sniping works well.

It's not a terrible game, but rather disappointing for someone keen on the previous main-series RE games. If you want action packed third person shooters, there are surely better options.

It is played in a refined over-the-shoulder perspective, similar to Resident Evil 4. No longer do you feel the thrill of escaping zombies, fighting for your life, and hoping you have enough ammunition to survive. Instead, the gameplay is solely focused on action. Ammo is plentiful, there is no incentive to fear enemies, and the atmosphere is not frightening. The reason for this stems from always having partner with you throughout the entirety of the game. If you were expecting a horror game, steer clear away from this game.

    Story:
Chris Redfield, now a member of the BSAA, is dispatched to an African territory in order to find a terrorist who is trying to sell a BOW. He is partnered up with Sheva Alomar, a BSAA agent who is also a local. Upon their arrival to Kijuju, they find that the citizens have been infected by a parasite.

    Graphics:
Resident Evil 5 still holds up graphically! It's better looking than some games that have come out recently in the 8th gen era! Character models are well-made, the lighting is amazing, and enemies have a creative design. Cut scenes are impressive and the overall aesthetic of the game also allows you to become immersed in the action.

    Verdict:
If you're expecting a survival horror game, you will be very disappointed. This is an action game first and foremost. It's a shame, however, this is not a bad game. I would consider this a great action game, but a terrible Resident Evil game. If you're willing to look past the fact that the series has taken a turn towards the action genre, you can have an enjoyable time playing this game.

I am The Destroyer. I will break games, complain about the littlest detail, and tell you whether or not the game is worth buying. A lot of things to say here, but can't due to the 5000 character limit.

First, I'd like to say that if you're a first-time player, play offline. Don't play co-op without an actual friend. The community is now plagued with hackers, trolls, and gamers who will attempt to skip any cut-scene on you or else threaten to rage quit. They will also hog all of the items and ammo for themselves. Playing offline allows you to adapt to the physics and gain an understanding to how the main gameplay is, until you are comfortable enough to see the "real world" for what it is. More story skits also take place offline.

    1. Story
The story takes place in 2009, where B.S.A.A. member, Chris Redfield is dispatched to Kijuju, Africa to apprehend a black market weapons dealer named Ricardo Irving. Due to the distrust Africans have towards Americans in the story, Sheva Alomar is also assigned to assist Chris on his mission. But as they prepare, they notice something isn't right. And when things go quiet, all hell breaks loose shortly after.
The best part about the story is that it's introduced in a way where you don't feel left out for missing the previous games. Veteran characters like Chris Redfield are back, so it appeals to both new fans and old fans. But... There are a few flaws in the story to point out: first of all, the B.S.A.A. members have radio headsets with them, including the main broadcast from HQ, yet they'll sometimes act as if they don't have any contact with each other at all. Another flaw you'll notice is the lack of police/military protocol "Hands in the air, NOW!" type of deal. Can't explain more because this review isn't marked with spoilers, but if you're intelligent enough you'll figure it out. Finally, Chris should have died so many times... in just the story! Count it as you're playing through! Despite this; the story does manage to deliver a satisfying ending that most fans can agree with.

    2. Voice Acting
Capcom follows the role of "If you're gonna play your part, you better do it right!" kind of deal. Always keeping the cast fresh, shedding new light on the Resident Evil universe.

    3. Graphics and Visuals
The graphics are superb in every way & form. Not much else to say.

    4. Gameplay
Gameplay refers to combat, customization, and various areas you can explore within the game. Put it all together and it's Awesome!

    -Battle System-
This game is co-op focussed. What makes Resident Evil 5 unique for strategy is that ammo picked up is only given to one player rather than both. So if you pick up your partner's shotgun ammo they desperately need you'll have to give it to them manually. Of course this means nothing once you unlock infinite ammo.

    -Customization-
Resident Evil 5 has a small bit of an rpg elements here, painting experience points with gold, and distributing them in order to buy or upgrade weapons. The great thing about this game is that you can upgrade any weapon you want in any fashion you want. It's possible to complete the game without upgrading but is significantly more difficult.

    -Exploration-
The exploration in this game is just a point-to-point: get to this location, fight boss, and you win. There isn't any free-roaming and is just a one set path - something which most fans will be disappointed with. This slightly takes away from the atmosphere, as you're not able to come back and revisit an area without using chapter select.

    5. Soundtrack
For a Survival Horror game, it kind of lacks it's elemental music. In fact, it drifts over to the point where it feels like an action game. The soundtrack stands good, but isn't great.

    6. DLC
Finally, DLC that is worth phrase. You'll end up playing Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape only a few times, but you'll definitely revisit Versus mode, and possibly The Mercenaries Reunion. Each coming with their own filler & type of fun.

    8. Personal Enjoyment
The main campaign feels short; but I had so much fun playing this game with my friends. We've put thousands of hours into this game because it was the best game to play after a hard day's work. Most of our time was spent in Versus mode, where we played as our favourites, and thought of unique ways to kill Majinis rather than killing each other.

    9. Overall Verdict
If I could, I would rate this game a full 10. But personal feelings should only have a small impact on the overall score. And that's why Resident Evil 5 gets rated a 9 out of 10. Without DLC; it is only a 7 out of 10. Pick up the game because it's worth a playing at least once. I would say more about the game but the rest is better to experience personally.

I want to start this review off by saying that I know this is not the traditional Resident Evil game. Up until this point in the franchise, Resident Evil was considered to be a survival horror franchise where you fight zombies. However, RE5 changes the formula, shifting from a horror centered experience to a more action based one, to the disappointment of many hardcore fans. However, thatI want to start this review off by saying that I know this is not the traditional Resident Evil game. Up until this point in the franchise, Resident Evil was considered to be a survival horror franchise where you fight zombies. However, RE5 changes the formula, shifting from a horror centered experience to a more action based one, to the disappointment of many hardcore fans. However, that doesn't make Resident Evil 5 a bad game. To the contrary, Resident Evil 5 is actually a very solid action shooter, with survival elements mixed in.

The gameplay is similar to that of Resident Evil 4, in which case you stand still as you aim a laser to help you land critical shots on your enemies. Stun an enemy with a good shot, and you can close the distance to land a satisfying melee attack on him. This formula keeps up throughout the game, for the most part, and is very fun to play around with, but the lack of any change ups in the gameplay can really cause the game to drag in the last few chapters.

The survival elements included in the game mainly pertain to item management. Limiting your inventory to 9 inventory slots is a good initial start, but I'm disappointed that there were no opportunities to expand it. What makes this particularly annoying is the melee vest and the bullet proof vest take up inventory slots, which doesn't make sense because they're actually just upgrades for your armor.

One problem the game does have to a point is the lack of mobility. There's no way for you to move while aiming, and because of this, enemies can easily close the distance between you and them. However, to be fair, almost all of the zombies in the game are slow, and sprint only a few feet a time. This gives you a nice window to get away, and this is especially true with the tougher but slower enemies, so the game manages to find a balance between your lack of mobility and the zombies, even if it doesn't feel like it.

Despite the gameplay being addictive as it is, it can get really frustrating at some points. Certain enemies you face in the story take an unnecessarily long amount of time to kill, which often drains your ammo to ridiculous levels, which is so frustrating when one of the key elements of the game is to conserve ammo. Often these enemies do not adaquetley replenish what you have lost, making boss fights, sub-boss fights, and horde encounters frustrating.

The most frustrating point of this game is easily your AI controlled counterpart Sheva. Now the AI is competent when performing basic functions, but not in any advanced ones. Sheva rarely goes to melee a stunned enemy, and often she leaves you out to dry whenever you're grabbed by an enemy. Sheva constantly wastes ammo throughout the game, often attacking enemies even when they take no damage, and Sheva can actually die. In one particular sequence in the first few hours of the game, I had to start over four times because Sheva failed to out run the masked chainsaw wielding goon that was chasing us, even though I managed to put distance between me and him with no problem. If you have an online account, or better yet, a friend to play with you, I highly recommend you play that way instead of dealing with the AI, because it's just not dependable.

The most disappointing of this game however is the story. The story is very minimal, with a limited amount of cutscenes compared to all the action. Sheva is very disappointing as a character. Without any personality development or any emotional moments between Sheva and Chris, the bond between them seems unusual, and Sheva comes off as a very boring character that you'll have no attachment to. To be fair, Chris would probably have been considered a boring character too, if it weren't for the fact that he's already a character from the franchise.

However, the biggest blunder in the story is the way the zombies are portrayed. Throughout the game, I saw enemies wielding crossbows, dynamite, melee weapons, drive vehicles, and they even used guns and boy armor later in the game. You don't even get eaten when they kill you, you just get beaten to death. The game tries to justify by saying that these aren't zombies, but are instead another enemy all together, called the majini, but that's the problem right there. In a zombie franchise, why is it that I went through the whole game without killing a single zombie. I killed majini, giant monsters, a superhuman, and even a huge troll, but no zombies.

    Come on.

Despite my complaints, the game is ultimately a very fun and addictive experience, but the negatives do bog it down. A boring new character, minimized story, flawed gameplay, annoying AI and a stupid concept hold this game back from achieving the true greatness that the Resident Evil franchise was known for. It doesn't even hold a candle to the greatness that was Resident Evil 4. All these problems ultimately make the game good but disappointing.

With story and dialogue written near the intellectual level of The Room, poor characterization, exposition dumps of the laziest kind, and quicktime events of increasing scale to the point where the final boss can only be defeated by them, Resident Evil 5 is a mess of a game. Using similar mechanics to Resident Evil 4, a good game, RE5 proves that good mechanics can be used poorly, when the game plays like the tense horror game RE4 was and RE5 is not. With the changes RE5 does make, you get one of the worst inventory systems I've seen in a while, and an AI partner with little purpose past accommodating the multiplayer craze. Even when playing coop with a real person, the actual "coop" in this game is forced and unnecessary. When RE5 tries to rip off RE4, it fails, and when RE5 tries something new, it fails again.

I can only recommend this for laughter's sake, as the campaign, when played with a friend, will provide many opportunities for mocking remarks and enjoyment in the lackluster qualities seen above. Otherwise, don't bother.

Like the fourth game the fifth is great. Albert Wesker is such a great villain. My only problem with this game was the AI on your partner, couldn't really rely on it to do anything.

This is a co-op master piece, with so much replay value and DLC modes to keep you playing for months, the environments are Amazing for a 3 year old game and the detail put in to everything little things is very noticeable..
If your playing solo the AI player isn't a hindrance for possibly the first time in any game I've ever played and being able to customize their equip is very helpful..

my only real qualm with this game is the controls, slow movement and still fire and Melee will have you getting smashed by giant monsters all through out this game..

The gold edition is now $20 AUS, definitely worth getting.

RE5 isn't better than RE4, but... It definitely is a true RE sequel. Chris Redfield has been my favorite RE character, 2nd to Leon, since Resident Evil 1! The ally A.I. is stupid and doesn't seem to help out a lot, so make sure you're playing co-op with a friend. Either way, its a great RE game from beginning to the exciting boss fight at the end (not spoiling it)!

This game appears to be great, but I played for just 1 hour in the PSN+ timed trial. Nice graphics, interesting story, but... why the hell you can't walk and shoot? Terrible gameplay. This game with Uncharted mechanics would be perfect! They used a overpast gameplay... You can't run, jump, shoot, make a parkour, etc. So sad...

Even though this doesn't quite deserve to be called a Resident Evil game, due to the fact that almost nothing in this game resembles the past ones, I still found it rather enjoyable. It's so fast-paced, and will leave you on your toes. I especially enjoyed the downloadable content, particularly, "Lost In Nightmares", since it returned to the roots of the game.

Played this game alone. This game is not bad, however I find it pretty boring sometimes, and sometimes illogical and "one way only" to be played (e.g. you have only one way to kill the boss, I guess it was better to have "smart way" and "long way") which sometimes is quite frustrating. Other than that it's a fun game to play, I guess it's much better to be played in coop on-line, sine AIPlayed this game alone. Resident Evil 5 is a good game and has a good online and so it's a game worth of buying im my opinion, his antagonist (Wesker) is one of the most deadliest Resident Evil character ever, this Resident Evil puts an end to the antagonist that appeared in the first episode of Resident Evil as a "hero"...But the game itself as a horror game was poorly edited !

Resident Evil 5 is the most overrated game I have ever played. So dull with little moments to really keep you hooked. Controls are also incredibly awkward.

Okay, let me start out by saying I am a fan of the resident Evil series, but this game does it no justice.
The game plays slowly and the story doesn't have much development, you're put straight into the action. Also, the difficulty must not have been tested or something because the first boss is nearly impossible on NORMAL. Just to beat the game I had to set it to "Easy", which even then

The virus, like games has evolved and you're no longer one of only a few experiencing it. It is one of my favourite games on the PS3 to date, as it takes you back to the Resident Evil world once more, just with a different outlook. My one & only gripe is sheva is more of a hinderance than a help. Expand

Resident Evil 5 is generally a good game, but some elements can be really annoying. I've played the previous parts of Capcom production and I know about the most characteristic features of RE's. And the final boss... So simple, but only if you know ONE and the ONLY ONE right way to defeat him. I died about fifteen times, because I tried to push the stone too early. Oh, come on - give me some freedom! I'm not a casual player, but sometimes RE 5 is quite too hard. The first boss is bulletproof, so it's better to run than shoot (of course, you have to die three or four times to know that). And the last thing: the game isn't scary. Not at all. It's survival-action, at the most, not survival-horror., But generally it's a good production, which can bring a lot of satisfaction and maybe a little of irritation too. Expand

I purchased the Gold edition of this game and I think it makes a big difference. The normal campaign has 2 flaws: The AI is horrible and the game isn't scary. Sheva had no business in the game at all, if they made the inventory like re4, made Chris isolated, made the game occur at night, and had maybe traps waiting for you like in re4 to make you more aware of your surroundings, thenI purchased the Gold edition of this game and I think it makes a big difference. Replaying this again but in the PS3 , there's really not much of a difference and plays significantly like a dated PS2 game. Of course, the co-op is the key of success here and much of the content it's very basic. Though in my opinion this is really the perfect game to play with a buddy.

So if you love the 1st five R.E( R.E0- R.E CV) but hated R.E4 Then you should pass on R.E5(if you never played R.E5 or hated the demo or hate the direction R.E has taken but rate it poorly..stop trolling) because it plays just like R.E4. First the good: like R.E4 its about action as this game gives you plenty of explosions & QTE scenes! the enemies are a little quicker & even more challenging which is a plus & all boss fights are epic! The graphics: holds up pretty good even as my review is late on this game lol good lighting & shading..great water physics, even destructible environments such as walls,Windows etc! the story: Its pretty good especially when wesker is introduced later as the main Villain & brings what seems to be an end to possibly the greatest video game villain ever created! the controls: work fine but seems like they were designed for a fps instead of a 3rd action game but are manageable & precise. there's lots to do here as Mercenary mode returns & also extra mercenary mode plus two new modes:Desperate escape & lost In nightmares as this mode attempts to win over the Survivor horror fans capcom turned their back on lol but falls flat because its too short & sadly kinda boring. The bad:it plays just like R.E4 so I was a bit disappointed by this as it felt all to Familiar! I mean its good they used R.E.4 formula but failed to improve on it as co-op is really the only new feature here which is good but if you play alone(NOT RECOMMENDED) the CPU player just sucks!! You can't buy or upgrade weapons during missions, & the inventory box is horrible as the amount of boxes easily gets filled!! Probably the worst aspect of R.E5 is the fact that the survivor horror theme is all but dead but as I stated earlier its clear that capcom isn't going to return the R.E series back to survivor horror but instead throw in small(& I mean small)scars in favor for large explosions...7/10 Expand

Perhaps Resident Evil 5's most remarkable achievement is how it deftly straddles the line between the franchise's sometimes endearing, sometimes frustrating, legacy gameplay mechanics while incorporating more contemporary action adventure elements like enhanced interaction and exploration of environments and a decidedly more shooter-like control scheme. In too many ways this is identical to the last game. That's not necessarily a bad thing - "RE4" is one of the greatest games ever made because it rewrote the rules for action games, setting a template for everything from "Dead Space" to "Dark Sector." Because of that this is still a damn near essential purchase. It's just a shame that the lack of evolution means it occasionally feels like it's lagging behind the very competitors it inspired.
