Never played these games except for a bit of Forgotten Sands. Thought I'd give the original trilogy a go with this HD collection. I think the platforming aspect of this game is great. Movement is fluid and the puzzles and obstacles are clever. The combat is awful though. It's just so frustrating and inconsistent. Why is it that sometimes I can rewind but other times I can't, even when INever played these games except for a bit of Forgotten Sands. The combat is awful though. It's just so frustrating and inconsistent. Why is it that sometimes I can rewind but other times I can't, even when I have sand tanks? Countering is annoying to get right and some attacks can't even be countered. God forbid an enemy uses a sweep attack when you're on your last drop of health and you're out of rewinds.
And the Power of Haste ability (the only useful ability in the game) is weird and possibly broken. To use it you need both the yellow circles and the white crescents to be full and at equal level, but if you happen to upgrade your yellow circles you can't use Power of Haste until you also upgrade the next white crescent, which means you won't be able to use it in the next fight if you happen to upgrade the yellow circles right before you get there. For one fight I had to reload my save and NOT pick up an upgrade just so I could get past it. The way this was supposed to work made no sense to me.
Not to mention the entire game is one long escort mission where you can't let Farah die. She is a nuisance in every combat section. She will either die or get in the way. It sucks. The game doesn't have a difficulty level either. It's just one size fits all. I would've gladly played on Easy just so I didn't have the urge to throw my controller every half hour.
On top of all this there is one glaring technical issue with this remaster. All the sound effects sound like they're echoing. I don't know if this is new to the remaster or if it was in the PS2 version as well but it just sounds crap. And you can barely hear characters sometimes because the voices are so low.
I came out of this game frustrated and glad it was over instead of having enjoyed myself and I don't like that.… Expand
