  1. Though the price is a tad high for a year old game, the PS3 version is by far the stronger game.
  2. There are a lot of games on the market fighting for your attention, but Overlord snuck quietly onto the market and personally blew me away. Give this game a shot; you'll probably like it as much as I did.

An entertainingly amoral addition to the strategy cannon. [July 2008, p.82]
  4. What we have here is the definitive edition of Overlord. It is however, kind of annoying that it has been released at a full retail price, especially when you consider the time the game has been out on the 360 already.

You ought to at least give Raising Hell a rental, as the expanded content adds plenty of value to an already good game. Besides, I can't think of a better way to indulge that evil streak in all of us.
  6. Overlord may not be the most dazzling game you'll play this year, but it is one of the freshest in execution.
  7. If you hated the kiddie aspect of Pikmin, I suspect its stellar gameplay – most of which is present in Overlord – will turn you into a fan of Codemasters’ series now that Nintendo’s overly happy atmosphere has been replaced by a world that’s darker, more evil, and likely more appealing to the average gamer.

Take the time to master the nuances of minion combat and you will find a lot here to keep you entertained.
  9. If you missed Overlord the first around or the Playstation 3 is your console of choice, there's no excuse not to have some fun with Overlord: Raising Hell.
  10. Most definitely one of the most inventive games on the PS3. It blends a number of genres into a great package topped off with some great humor.
  11. Probably one of the best games currently available on PS3, blessed with clever design, engaging characters, sharp dialogue and a moreish appeal that drags you through even when the going gets tough. The skillful melding of action-adventure with strategic puzzle elements marks it out as something distinct, and it's got cult hit written all over it.
  12. There's a nice amount of content, but the updates do little more than gloss over lingering issues, and choosing to upgrade the audio over the graphics is just plain puzzling.
  13. Griping over old issues aside this is a great package for any PS3 owners to pick up if you’ve never played Overlord in any form before.
  14. With a no-nonsense approach to being evil and plenty of fun to be had, this is a great game to pick up for some quick laughs.

Ultimately, if it weren't for an oddly skewed sense of gameplay delivery that offers two separate genre types (action and puzzle) rather than a comfortable mixture of both, Overlord: Raising Hell would be the thoroughly refreshing genre experience that the Xbox 360 version couldn't quite become. As it is, despite the game's platform-specific tweaks and its plush design, genuine humour, and intuitive minion controls, the game still doesn't lend itself to being anything other than a smile-inducing distraction... that is already available for a far smaller asking price on the Xbox 360 and PC.
  16. If you can get a handle on the control of your minions, and pick up on the strategy needed to defeat some of the later bosses, you should have quite a bit of fun with this quirky fantasy title.

Overlord is based on a good idea, play the bad guy in a fantasy world , but you nee more than ideas to make a good video game, so lets see howOverlord is based on a good idea, play the bad guy in a fantasy world , but you nee more than ideas to make a good video game, so lets see how it fares.
PS: Given the fact that I didn't play the original game I'll judge the extension as part of the game and not on its own.

Technically the game is clearly dated and could run on a PS2 if you compare it to games like God of War 2, but the framerate is steady even when there is 50 characters on the screen, and the design is good with childish looking characters in the opposite of the violence of the universe.

Gameplay wise the game is more a RTS (real time strategy) game than a true action RPG, because sure your character can attack on his own but it will be incredibly difficult and you'd better use your minions to fight, they come in four different classes each with their own speciality (healers, assassins, ranger and tanks), use them wisely as they can gain power by looting enemies but if they die the loot is lost and your replacement unit will start with nothing. It's fun if you like those strategic games but not if you'd prefer do the fighting yourself.

Concerning the story I'm a bit disappointed as even if you're suppose to be the evil itself and that you are fighting halflings, dwarfs, and humans, it's them that are bad and you're going to save the population, it would have been so more fun if you were here to destroy good rulers and impose your reign. The game will last about 20 to 25 hours which is a good time for this genre.

So in conclusion Overlord is a good game for the ones looking for a strategic game, which is pretty rare on console, but the disappointing story and the lack of depth in its core mechanics makes the game a bit repetitive. It could have been better but overall if you want to manage a minion's army I would advise it.
