An interesting thinking man’s shoot ’em up. Too bad the enemies blend to backgrounds a little bit too well on some levels. The timelimits are mostly unnecessary. [Sept 2007]

Innovative levels and a great soundtrack. [Issue#155, p.92]
  3. A curious game that will seem a little uncomfortable to some factions of both the shmup fanboys and casual players. Still, it is a great piece of software that manages to offer plenty of variation through well-designed level objectives, and at a price you can afford with pocket change.
  4. Overly difficult gameplay for an arcade game. A solid title that the majority of people will simply find too hard. Anyone looking for a real challenge will find it more than enough.
  5. If you're used to the sensibilities of modern gaming, I can imagine this being a massive let-down thanks to its unforgiving nature and lacklustre audio-visuals. See past the limitations and embrace the challenge and you may well enjoy what's on offer here.

It’s certainly not the most incredible PS3 experience out to date, and if you’re going to buy just one PSN game, I’d say unequivocally go for Super Stardust HD, but if you’re a fan of that kind of shooter and fancy a challenge, Nucleus remains a unique, challenging, entertaining if simplistic shooter.
  7. PSM3 Magazine UK
    57
It's not a very pleasant experience and there just isn't enough fun to persuade you that you're spending your time wisely. [July 2007, p.84]
  8. You've got to give Nucleus a bit of credit for not just being a pure Robotron clone, but its oddball take on the dual-stick shooter isn't much fun.
  9. Edge Magazine
    40
Nucleus stands as a poorly executed game in a field where there are so many excellent others that it’s impossible to recommend. [Aug 2007, p.94]
  10. Playstation Official Magazine UK

Avoid this like you would a back street endoscopy. [July 2007, p.114]

It's also a deeper game than it looks at the first time, and the different ways to solve each level require a combination of tactic and good reflexes. Full Review »
