The effort put into the depth of control of this game is very apparent. Each of the four modes of racing controls in subtly different ways, and racing aficionados will definitely be able to tell the difference.
-
This is a top-notch racer that is both challenging and a lot of fun. Hats off to EA and Black Box for re-energizing the franchise with a solid next-gen outing.
-
There is a slight learning curve, but the game is without a doubt the most rewarding since, perhaps, Hot Pursuit 2.

Play UKThe best Need for Speed game in years. [Issue#161, p.86]
-
It feels more sophisticated, looks great, delivers tons of cars and racing disciplines, and upgrades what was already a solid online component. But far more critical, it's one of the best drives on the PS3.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)ProStreet doesn't re-invent the wheel, but it definitely turns a corner for the series, and does it with enjoyable results. [Holiday 2007, p.77]
-
While definitely not as intensive as to replace Forza or Gran Turismo, ProStreet takes the Need for Speed engine and shows that it is a solid competitor against even more traditional racing titles.
-
A new direction for the Need for Speed games, and it almost works. Whilst career mode is lengthy and rewarding and the game has stacks of cars and plenty of customising options, multiplayer is weak and the lag online is quite abundant.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKA touch repetitive, but a confident, high speed, return to form for Need for Speed. [Christmas 2007, p.62]
-
The problem with Need For Speed ProStreet is that while it's long-lasting and can be pretty enjoyable despite the AI problems, it's also a bit by-the-numbers at times and no longer really stands out like the NFS games used to.
-
Having to cover the damage done to your cars gives playing the game a sense of desperation, and multiple event types mix things up. Even so, Need for Speed Pro Street doesn’t quite have enough meat to cover its bones and is best suited for players who are in for the challenge, not the big crashes.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyWhile I too had a good time out on the tracks, ProStreet's bog-standard (but still superb-feeling) racing does little to evolve the series. [Holiday 2007, p.68]
-
Pro Street provides tons of race variations such as grip class, time attack, sector shootout, drift races, ¼ mile drag, ½ mile drag, wheelie competition, top speed runs, and speed challenges. The career mode does a nice job mixing up these race variations to help the game from growing stale too quickly.

Maxi Consolas (Portugal)We welcome with open arms the change of attitude and approach of this new Need for Speed. But we frown upon some of the problems that were left unsolved, like the structure of the career mode but mainly on the handling of the cars. But for those who turned their backs on the previous games, it’s a good place to return to this franchise. [Dec 2007]
